There is no sign, so just drive through the huge dirt parking lot of the Cattleman's Association building and the door is towards the left. I visited after reading the other positive Yelp reviews. It's wonderful! I had the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. The beef was flavorful and tender and the breading and gravy were perfect. The mashed potatoes were made from Yukon Golds and were also very tasty. After seeing some huge open face prime rib sandwiches go by I knew I'd have to come back to try one out. The entire staff is friendly and professional, the restaurant and bathrooms are immaculate, and if you time your visit right, you get to attend a livestock auction after your meal. Love that our Grand Junction friend took us here. Very fresh/delicious meat. I'm not even a big meat person, but I like this meat. The prices are very reasonable as well. I have yet to try the pie (shocker! I know), but everything we have had has been very delicious. I even tried to be good the last time I was there and got a salad with steak on it and it was such a good salad (or was I just hungry?), but either way, it settled nicely in my tummy. Meh! I had country fried steak and the batter tasted like flour. My daughter had the pasta and it was super over cooked, the pasta was basically mush and the entire dish tasted like oil from the veggies. I informed the server (autumn) of the pasta and asked if she could just have a bowl of soup. When the check came the pasta was still on it. I asked if she was going to remove the pasta we could not eat. Her response "well I guess I can" and she snatched the bill from me! She was pretty cold when she took my card and when she returned with my card she tossed it in the table! I said thanks and she didn't say anything!!! SO rude!!!! We won't be back! My hubby and I, being from Texas, had to stop in for a bite to eat. Upon entering, it felt like we were home, beautifully decorated and greeted with a warm welcoming smile from Diane! Wow! The smoked chicken wings to start were scrumptious!!! Our flatiron steaks were to die for along with yummy delicious mashed potatoes and french fries! Yes, I died and went to heaven! Strayhorn recently moved into this location and they're doing a great business. Tonight we came in for coin style margs and pie at the bar. The service was friendly, upbeat and helpful. Fresh-squeezed lime makes the difference along with agave syrup. Great drink! The choice of pies is amazing and if you're hungry try the peanut butter. Cherry and pecan are great too. In town for Mike the Headless Chicken Festival and decided to try this place out as it was within easy walking distance from our hotel. Being Friday night it was understandably busy and the hostess let us know there would be a little wait. No problem, she took our name and we walked around the shopping complex and stopped at Gene Taylor's Sports Outlet (that's a whole other review). By the time we got back to the restaurant our table wasn't quite ready, but the hostess was very nice and quickly got the table ready and sat us. Our waitress was friendly and attentive despite how busy the place was. Almost ordered the "Nut Bucket", but I don't think my kids would've eaten this appetizer so we went for the fried pickles. They were hot and crispy with a yummy dipping sauce. I had the Salad for Dinner with grilled chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of char grilled flavor. I loved the thinly sliced red onions and crisp bed of spring mix lettuce. I had blue cheese dressing on it, which was not my favorite since I usually like chunks of blue cheese in it and this was smooth. The flavor of the dressing was still pretty good. Husband had the chicken fried steak, which was huge! The gravy was okay and he liked how the mashed potatoes were a good portion (not too many potatoes to fill the whole plate). Daughter had the kids chicken strips and fries. She ate the entire plateful, so it must've been pretty good. Son had the ranch burger with cheese. He didn't like the char grilled flavor of the burger. He said it was stronger than the ones we grill at home, but he still ate over half of it. He loved the fries, they weren't the frozen kind. We finished off with a piece of cheesecake with raspberry sauce and the kids shared what I think is called the Cowgirl's Dream? It's a big warm brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. They chowed down on the brownie even after a big dinner. Good food, excellent service, we'll definitely come again when we're in town. read more

Very good restaurant, a locals hide away with awesome food. I've been there twice, once for lunch (steak sandwich -- delicious), once for dinner (ribeye -- YUM). The food was always excellent, the service during dinner was a bit slow, but it was a Friday night and they were busy. Just passing through and was lucky to find this place. Nice atmosphere. I sat at the bar since I was by myself and visited with the bartender. She was great! I only had iced tea and she made sure I always had plenty. I ordered something not exactly on the menu. We went for Sunday brunch with the family. I ordered chicken fried chicken and the chicken wasn't cooked through all the way. It was RAW! We were for warned by the server prior to the meal coming that the cooks were new. Not only was my meal botched but everyone else's meals were luke warm. Disappointing experience overall! For a "steak house" it charges premium price for an average meal. I had the sirloin and shrimp, they charge primium for the shrimp so I was expecting a nice side of shrimp..... what got was a very small steak and 3 shrimp. The side of mashed potatoes was small, dry and bland. The pre meal bread was a couple of cold pre made dinner rolls with fresh from the freezer plain butter, useless. My wife ordered the chicken Alfredo, it ended up being cut up grilled chicken served on a bed of noodles and almost no Alfredo sauce at all, it was all but non existent and what was there was so bland that she made me try it just to confirm how lifeless it truly was. She didn't really like the chicken that much either. The whole meal was honestly on par with a ten dollar buffet, yet I spent much, much more than that... I ordered a standard cocktail that they charged quite a lot of money for, this particular drink is served in a copper cup and has 4 ingredients, FOUR. What I got was 2, it was missing the lime and mint, Which are what separate this drink from a simple soda and vodka. Overall I spent a premium for a below average meal. The tiny steak I did get was actually tasty and well cooked, witch is why I gave it 2 stars and not 1. But honestly this place is a far cry from even a standard (Australian) big box chain steak house, let alone the local "real deal" genuine steak house it is pretending to be . Located on Hyw 6 just west of Hwy 139 in Loma. The building is the WS cattlemans auction place, the restaurant is on the left side of the building. The restaurant is very pleasant with county theme(of course), the ligthing is not to bright or dim, the music is just in the background, just right. It has a full bar with 12 of so bar stools. Our servers were very pleasant and helpful but did not get in the way. The menu was western style food, burgers, steaks and such, all home cooked fresh and hot! I had the burger with chillies, it was great, best burger in the Valley, beat Red Robbin. The better half had chicken fried steak, outstanding with homemade potatoes. The bottom line is the beer was cold, food was hot and fresh and the service and servers were great. Ya gotta go. read more

What a great surprise. About a mile west of the intersection of Hwy 6 & 50 and Colorado 139 is the Strayhorn Grill. The grill is in the Western Colorado Cattleman's Sale Barn so you can imagine the outstanding western decor. The food is excellent. My wife and I were there for the Sunday brunch. This was the first Sunday brunch they had done so service was just a little slow but not a problem. My wife said the omelet she had was "the best". I had the Stockman, a huge slice of prime rib, eggs, hash browns, toast. The portions were very generous and delicious. Take a drive to "cowboy country" and enjoy a great meal, wonderful service, and very reasonable prices. read more

What a find.....only restaurant in Loma, and what a place it is. The food was delicious, the staff efficient and super-friendly, and the venue, well, interesting! There aren't too many places in the world where you can enjoy a yummy bowl of cheesy grits with andouille sausage, then step into the lobby to learn about artificial insemination of cows. LOVE IT. We will definitely be back when our travels take us that far west on I-70. read more

We had heard about Strayhorn from neighbors who love it and decided to stop in on the way back from Moab. My wife and I are very glad we did. It was a Saturday night and we didn't have reservations but were seated after only 10 minutes at the bar. We started with the Stuffed Jalapenos and they were excellent. My wife had the Prime Rib and loved it and I had the Sirloin and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had in a restaurant. I'm fussy about beef as we buy half of a grass fed cow from a local rancher every year and it is out of the world. We followed dinner by splitting the Cowgirls Heaven dessert. The brownie was moist and chewy and it was more than enough for two people. We felt the cost was very reasonable for the quality and serving sizes received. Our tab for the evening was 64.00. That was for two beers, one cocktail, an appetizer, Prime Rib and Sirloin Steak dinner and a dessert. When the check came we double checked to make sure everything was on there as it was less than we expected. The service was friendly and quick and the owner introduced himself and we had a nice chat. The only complaint we have is that their beer selection is too generic and limited. It mostly consisted of things like Bud and Bud Light, Coors and Coors light, etc. Giving the number of craft breweries we have in Colorado and the Grand Valley I would like to see the beer selection expanded to include some of our great local beers. A local favorite of delicious comfort food. Staff is a ray of sunshine with a side of spunky. The brisket is my absolute favorite and is great for breakfast or lunch. The BBQ sauce that comes on the side has more of a vinegar base and one is never enough. If you order the hamburger, make sure to get a double. The beef is so fresh one patty is not enough. I don't normally write bad reviews unless it's an exceptionally bad experience. Sadly, Strayhorn Grill was exceptionally bad. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly. The hostess and our server were great and the service was very fast. The food just tasted like mass produced frozen generic meat product. The salmon must not have thawed out completely before they threw it in the microwave because it was more like squishy expired sushi. The pork chops tasted like they were yanked out of a dumpster, sprinkled with sand, seasoned with ashes or grill scrapings, and nuked alongside the salmon. The inside of the restaurant felt strange, like some combination of diner, cafeteria, and kid's camp. I would have choked down the food and just dealt with the stomach cramps without complaint, but the fact that it was so expensive was really frustrating. I don't know how they can possibly justify the cost. Is it the rise in wages? Labor shortages? Supply chain issues? I don't know, but the prices are way out of line. I wish I had gone to Burger King instead. Seriously. read more
