I've been coming here since they first opened--I live and work nearby, and this has been one of my regular spots for years. That's why this experience was so disappointing. On my last visit, I was charged an extra $1.25 as an "open item" with no explanation. I didn't ask for anything extra--just a simple modification (no beans). What bothered me wasn't the amount, but the lack of transparency. After 15 years of being a loyal customer, I shouldn't have to guess what I'm being charged for. If prices or policies have changed, that's completely understandable--but it should be communicated clearly. Being charged a vague fee without any explanation doesn't sit right, especially from a place I've supported for so long. The portion sizes were huge! Had I known, my son "The Incinerator" and I could've easily split a plate even with his appetite. He had nachos with grilled steak, cheese and extra guacamole and sour cream. I asked for extra shrimp on my nachos and got extra everything! (I think the owner thought the "extras" were for both plates). The dining room was small and dark and the service was curt. My son asked for salsa and then ice water and was pointed "over there" where nothing seemed to be. The mood seemed to be that of a couple having had a fight and it spilling over into a public space. Haight Street has some decent longstanding restaurants and for a quick bite, Street Taco won't break your piggy bank. Order at counter, get a number, sit and wait to be called, we ordered a carne asada bowl, fish tacos, and a burrito. All pretty stacked, the burrito seems to be the most popular here. Visited this spot during a thrift crawl on Haight St! Mostly needed to use the restroom, but restroom is for customers only. We ordered the 2 taco item ($10) and got both al pastor. Tacos came out fast, already topped with tomato, cilantro, and onion. Also came with a bag of chips and red and green salsa. Overall, the tacos were ok. Honestly only tried Street Taco because I was day drinking and it was the closest place to the bar. Food came out pretty fast and the prices for 2 tacos that were FULL of meat was great! They aren't your authentic tacos that you'd be daydreaming about but they are tasty enough but really small for $10 The cashier was very friendly and even explained a few items on the menu for me without feeling rush and the restaurant was pretty clean. It took about 8 minutes for my order to be ready and they also give you a small bag of chips. I walked into Street Taco and excitedly went to order four carne asada tacos. I was expecting the total to be around $21-$22--a little bit pricey, but it was a street taco, after all. Our small groups of 4 came here on Sunday for some lunch and had a terrible experience. The tall, older man who was the cashier is beyond rude. Making sarcastic little comments and just being overall aggressive. Something in our order was wrong and when I took the food and receipt up there to show him , he snatched the receipt out of my hand. The replacement order was then made incorrectly as well. The staff here is awful, but the food is decent. The cashier I mentioned just stood at the register and stared off while yawning. We get it, you hate your job! Something that I like about my life right now is that I have been feeling those movie moments a lot more than I have before this year. This San Francisco trip has made me feel a lot of these. I mean like I only watch YouTube but can a white boy not dream? I've always seen those rotating meat pyramids in videos about Mexican food. This Mexican place had the Great Pyramid of Haight Street. Shit was legendary. That was the first thing that caught my eye when we got into the restaurant. Another good sign was that the guy making the meat was sweaty, if you're not putting your heart and soul into my meat (what?) I don't wanna eat. I was pretty hungry, which I usually let play into the final rating of the review but these tacos made that negligible. I ordered five tacos and what I've noticed about the Mexican places I love and their tacos is that the best ones usually only put the bare minimum on their taco, usually just cilantro and onions and maybe some salsa. I ordered two carne asada tacos, one chorizo (!), and two al pastor. I did NOT fw al pastor before this, it's like taking an edible, you think you're gonna have fun but then it hits and you feel like going to the hospital. But this time it was like the al pastor was laced with whimsy and happiness. It had to have been the Great Pyramid of Haight (I think it's called a spit?). The pastor had such a less traditional al pastor flavor and a much more well rounded taste overall which was really nice for a change. I usually end up liking carne asada but I loved this one. It was cut really well, differently than the other meats which shows some passion. It was seasoned very well and reminded me of the first time I had food at my Mexican friend's house, what a time, I miss you Migs. As for the chorizo it is by far the best I've had, not overwhelmingly spicy as well and each little diced bit being seasoned enough so in combination, it made me smile. As I write this I remember Papi Chulo's, and if they were a five star I wouldn't feel right giving this place a five star as well. I stopped into Street Taco a couple of weeks ago with a friend as we were coming back from shopping on Haight street. We were looking for something quick and the second we smelled the food from outside the door, we immediately decided we had to go in. The ambiance is very "fast casual" where you go up to a counter and order and then wait for them to call your name. You're able to watch the entire kitchen throughout the whole process and everything was cooked fresh to order. They have traditional al pastor cooked and shaved off of a vertical spit, the tortillas tasted homemade, and the guac was one of the best I've had in a while. The carne asade tacos were great, no tough or chewy pieces and great flavor. The chicken and fish tacos were also really good and they are very generous with the amount of protein they give. 2 tacos was definitely enough to fill both of us up. I'd definitely recommend for a quick, relatively cheap spot to get some really good tacos. I'll be stopping in again soon at one of their locations around the city! read more

Though the food was good, my kids and I had leftovers to take with us after eating at the establishment. I asked the person at the register for a to-go tray for our leftover meal and he (appears to be the owner), tells me they only give out plastic bags. I had one Al pastor and one carnitas. The al pastor was flavorful, the carnitas was bland not only the flavor also the color. It was so pale, almost like it was boiled meat. Street Tacos was a cute joint on a happening San Francisco street. The food was being made fresh so everyone could see the grilled meat and everything that was going into your dish which was great! This was a common theme for all the food and drinks. To begin with I got the watermelon agua Fresca which had a strong watermelon flavor and even though watermelon was out of season there was sweet watermelon in the drink as well! It was super refreshing and tasty on a hotter San Francisco day. The price also was not crazy as it was only $3.50 for a lot of drink! I got the Al Pastor street bowl which was basically marinated pork, beans, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes in one big tostada bowl! It was again so refreshing as everything tasted warm and fresh which I appreciated. There was no stinginess with the pork which was extremely flavorful and tender and there was loads of all the other ingredients. I even enjoyed the tostada which I was scared would taste stale because of the old grease but that also tasted warm and fresh. There was a bit too many beans for my liking which made my tostada really wet which was a flaw in the design of the street bowl, but it was still overall delicious for $13.50! The chips and salsa were also pretty good. The chips were normal nothing special, but the salsa was very unique and tasted like it was made in house with some BOMBB tomatillos! The salsa was really refreshing and there was so much of it. I only wished that it packed more of a kick because it was a really sweet salsa. OVERALL, Street Tacos WAS FIREEE with cheap prices, fresh and mostly delicious food, and good service, so while it wasn't anything crazy special I definitely recommend Street Tacos to others and I hope to come again soon! read more

I've been visiting Street Taco for years now and have always been impressed with the quality and price! I visited again recently and ordered the Quesadilla which comes with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. In the past, these toppings were sides that came separately from the quesadilla, but this time they just put them all inside the quesadilla which also works. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and this was such a filling, wholesome meal for around $10 in SF. I also like the chill, laid back ambience of the restaurant.
