Had a great time with one of the most amazing waitresses we have had in a long time, Chelsea. She was extremely knowledgeable, kind, lighthearted, artistic and entertaining. My wife's 50th birthday was perfect because of her and her attention to detail, there is literally not one thing that she could've done better. Sullivan's has good food, but there always seems to be a problem with their service. We were there for New Year's Eve last night and had the most surly waiter. He didn't really talk to us at all. One person ordered a medium filet and he repeated Sullivan's patronizing bit about explaining that it's slightly pink on the inside and cooked on the outside and she nodded in agreement. When the filet arrived it was completely red in the center. (This has happened to us several times at Sullivan's). We waited 10 minutes for them to cook it correctly, and in the mean time our meals got cold. No apologies from the surly waiter. Once we were there late because we couldn't get an earlier reservation, and we weren't dawdling or anything and they started vacuuming the restaurant! There were other couples still eating! As I said, the food is good, but there's something about the whole Sullivan's atmosphere that is a big turn off. Considering how expensive it can be, I'd much rather spend my money at a more upscale steakhouse and get proper service without an attitude. As an update, Sullivan's requested I go to their website and enter my information there, which I did. Guess what? Crickets. What a joke. I can't believe it! First time at this location. Easy to find located close to the river walk. Parking can be a bit tough, they do offer valet parking for $7.00. I would definitely recommend using the online reservation tool. The inside is well kept and what you would expect for a steakhouse. The waiting area is quite small and we had to work our way past several groups to check in. The wait was only a few minutes. We were seated next to a busy walkway which was a bit disappointing. Our server didn't approach until an uncomfortable 5 plus minutes. It felt as if he was newer to the role and not necessarily fully trained yet. The menu was laid out well with a good range of choices. Drinks showed up pretty quickly as well as the appetizers. We ordered three appetizers to share, all not bad but nothing stood out:(. Two of us ordered soup and again nothing special. One of the five main courses was under cooked and sent back. Overall no complaints but no one was excited about the dinner. I love this steakhouse! I went here recently for dinner. The staff is nice and friendly. There are variety of choices in their menu but I got myself a ribeye. The food came in a quick. It has a nice portion, well cooked and was so delicious. I really enjoyed it. The prices may seem high but I got what I paid for. I asked for the tuna tartare. They brought it out with saltine crackers in the package. The dish was very poorly put together over pouring sauce all over it. With no flavor. From there on out the meal went downhill. Got to lobster bisque. Must have had cinnamon in it and a lot of it. Wow that's gross. Been here a few times, from the bar area to the dining room there is not much spectacular about the menu options. The food is good enough, nothing terrible, but also nothing that is so spectacular that I will go back and pay the premium prices for. Unfortunately, each time I have been there the service hasn't been the best. We've waited ridiculously long for food and setting in between meals after they took forks and knives. There's nothing that will make a hungry person hangry when they have their main dinner plate in front of them with no silverware to eat it with, then have to wait 10 minutes for the server or anyone's attention to get the necessary utensils needed to eat. read more

Sullivan's continues to offer a quality traditional steak experience in the burbs. It's still not one of the best steaks I've ever had, but I do like it and recommend it. Not much if anything has changed over the years. The menu is similar if not the same and the décor is the same as well. Despite the fact that the décor has not been updated I still think it looks contemporary and it has held up well over the years. My favorite appetizer is the steakhouse eggrolls. This is a great steakhouse take on an Asian classic. I also like the French onion soup and Cesar salad. My favorite side is the white cheddar and bacon au gratin potatoes. It's nice that a premium steak sauce is included. By premium I mean something like bourbon peppercorn or béarnaise not A1 or Heinz 57. If you want a more pedestrian selection though their own concoction is offered. read more

Good food, but the service was terrible. Our server's name was Mia, and she was very slow. We get there at 5 PM. It took her 15 minutes before she finally brought us the drink menus. Tried to reach out to Sullivan's with my concerns prior to the negative review, but after 10+ days of waiting to hear back, no response at all. The 5 of us looked forward to a Christmas Eve dinner, and were excited to go to Sullivan's. Upon arrival, we were sat in the party room which was louder than a sports bar on game night. We were clearly sitting in a room of work friends or family members. It was impossible to carry on a conversation without almost yelling. 2 of the 4 steaks we ordered as medium came to us very rare. After the food was delivered, we did not see any of the staff/have them check in on us for over 15 minutes. The side items we ordered were warm at best. By the time the staff stopped at our table, the dinner was a bust. We spent over $400, and it wasn't worth half that. Having rc iced no response from Sullivan's was even worse. This was the first time we have been to Sullivan's in Naperville, and we will definitely go back. This was one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have ever had. The staff were all great, especially our server - he was outstanding. As for the food, every single item was amazing. I can't put into words just how good everything was. The flavor of each item was as if I finally experienced what each one was meant to taste like. That might sound like an exaggeration but it's true. I have had steak before, but what I got was a finely crafted work of art. We also ordered the broccoli with hollandaise sauce. I'm not a huge fan of broccoli, but this was unlike anything I have had before. Each dish was excellent, the staff were great, and we had a wonderful time. Absolutely exceptional. I had made a reservation in December for my husbands birthday almost two weeks ahead of time. When we got there, he was greeted at the door with a happy birthday, when we sat down, they made a card out to him saying happy birthday, our server and two other different servers through out the night said happy birthday. They really made him feel great. Now let's talk about the food! My husband got the biggest steak on the menu it was PHENOMENAL, he said one of the best steaks he has had in a while and my husband isn't the type to gloat about food. I got a shrimp dish which was so very good as well. Our waitress was very informative, helped us with our drink pick out and was very attentive to our table. From start to finish it was a 10/10. I made the reservation online and indicated it was my fiancé's 30th birthday. They gave him a little card as soon as we walked in and kept it on the table throughout the dinner. Every person that walked passed us wished him a happy birthday. They did not sing to him (which is perfect because he hates that). We split the pork belly appetizer, creamed spinach and horseradish mashed potatoes sides. He had the KC strip that when he first tasted it literally said "worth it". I had the scallops that were amazing as well. His dessert was complementary and he ordered the banana fosters bread pudding and I had the key lime pie (my favorite dessert ever) I had a glass of wine and he has an old fashion. I'm from NY and originally heard of this place when I came to visit family in Naperville last April and I pit the idea in my head to come here for his 30th since we are currently in town for a family wedding. Visiting friends in the area and they selected this restaurant cuz nearby Two of our party of six ordered steak - one was inedible and was sent back. The other was ok only. For the price charged, found this unacceptable. The sides and salad were very good, though Two of us ordered the onion soup and it was bland not very good. On to dessert, two of us ordered key lime pie- just ok- crust was soggy However service was excellent The kicker for me was getting the car from valet. It was pouring rain and asked the hostess about getting the car- she said I had to go outside and down the block to get valet. I said in pouring rain? She just gave me blank stare and said yes. I am 77 yr old lady but had to make my way down the block in pouring rain! Come on!! I totally thought I posted 1/19/19. Let me start off by saying this place will always hold a special place in my heart/life. I was invited to dinner to enjoy a night with my boyfriend and friends. The atmosphere was great, the service was great and the food was delicious (I'm not even a steak person). On this night he proposed!!! A lovely couple brought us Champaign to congratulate us, the restaurant brought dessert to us and last but not least another couple covered our full table tab. This was a very beautiful and blessed day. I would highly recommend Sullivan's. This restaurant is very professional and told us this was their first proposal that they too were excited. I especially loved the grilled asparagus and shaved Brussels sprouts. Service was little bit on the slow side and my waiter did not bring me the salad that I ordered but he was very apologetic about it and gave me a complimentary dessert. My wife and I went in for a casual lunch. We walk by this place so often on our downtown walks but have never went in. Our minds were on wedge salads, steaks NY Strip for her and Ribeye for me. We each choose a side to split. Garlic mashed and asparagus. Paired with a nice house Merlot. After taking our order, the waitress did not check back with us. We did not get salads or our wine until our steaks were ready. The manager came over right away and explained that the steaks were ready but there was a mix up with the salads and gave us some choices. The managers quick attention ahead of the problem made the experience more enjoyable. As opposed to us complaining the manager proactively took care of the situation. We opted to pass on the salads and were comp'd for our 2 glasses of wine. In the end, the steaks were fabulous, perfectly cooked and tender. The asparagus was crisp and fresh. The garlic mashed potatoes were the right balance of chunky but creamy. My wife exclaimed that this was one of the best NY Strip she has ever had. Hand carved with almost zero fat or cartilage. Perfect cut! The combination of proactive hospitality and the quality of the food, this is definitely in our list to return and recommend to friends. read more

She could of been more tactful. So initially the ordering started off good then the food wasn't coming, we waited and waited and waited, so finally it shows up, the sides were cold , the tenderloin steak was tough to cut into so me substandard quality of meat or very dull steak knives, not sure which. The management realizing the delays made an adjustment to our bill but I didn't come to Sullivan's for an adjustment, I came for a great meal and a great experience on my birthday celebration but I was disappointed. I make a pretty mean steak at home (using various methods) so I don't go to steak houses often. But we were celebrating a couple of December birthdays and decided to head to Sullivan's. I'd been there once or twice over the past 20 years or so, but don't recall specifics. I tried the dry-aged prime ribeye (Tomahawk) steak. Also order a side of garlic mashed potatoes and a caesar salad starter. Also at the table was order a salmon dish (long story) and a Wagyu steak. I'll start with the positive: The ambiance and service was exceptional. Our server was outgoing, friendly, and on top of all our needs. 5/5 for that. The not-so-positive: The salmon dish was not good. (again, long story, but don't order seafood at a steakhouse I guess is the take away). The chefs here all seem pretty heavy-handed on the spices. The steaks were very heavy with salt and pepper. Don't get me wrong, I love black pepper and a good dash of salt, but this was over the top. The garlic mashed potatoes were very garlicky too. And the Caesar salad was overly spiced as well. The Wagyu steak, while very good, is really not real Wagyu beef you'd find in Japan, but it was very, very tender and very good. Decent food for sure. We came here to celebrate the 50th bday of one of our friends. I've been here before but it's been a while. We made reservations for the 12 of us and they seated us almost right away even though the whole party wasn't there yet which was nice. A lot of restaurants won't seat you even with reservations until most your party is there already. We got some warm bread almost right away. We ordered the seafood sampler platter for appetizer. It had some very fresh oysters, jumbo shrimp and crab legs. I ordered the wagyu aged steak medium rare and it was very tasty. It's more expensive around $70 but worth it. I heard from the others who ordered the filet mignon and bone in ribeye that those dishes were also very tasty. The waitress Hannah was very friendly and attentive. We got some spinach and asparagus and potato sides which were good too. We brought a cake for the birthday celebrant so we didn't try the dessert but I'm sure it would've been good :). I usually go into downtown Chicago for some really good steak but now I know Sullivans is a great option in the burbs. read more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Took my boyfriend last night for Sweetest day and he was smiling the whole time! The meal was so satisfying and our sever Chelsey took excellent care of us! When our lamb and steak arrived she stayed to make sure we cut into it and was satisfied. She gave great food and drink recommendations and made great conversation! Sullii's, keep making him happy - BUT IT'S BEEN A DRAG closing before 10 on Wed and even Thursdays. Several of us will go somewhere we'd rather not go if running late as we're now trained you'll be or about to close if after 9:30 pm. Doesn't seem a smart call. I don't frequent steakhouses often, but it was my husband's birthday and we had a gift card, so celebrate we shall! We made dinner reservations for 7:30 pm, but planned to go early and hang out in the bar area for a bit since they have live music on Fridays starting at 5:30 pm. We got there about 6:30 pm, ordered an appetizer, and drinks, and actually ended up hanging out there for like 3 hours! We felt bad, but our waitresses were super cool and just said to let us know when we were ready and they'd get us a table. Pretty great considering it was a Friday night. Although drinks are pricey, the bar area is a pretty nice spot to spend some time. It's classy but casual all at the same time. Our waitress was nice and super friendly. The music was jazzy and perfect for the space -- not too loud, but still entertaining. My only complaint was that it was absolutely freezing in there. They need to turn down the air conditioning! We finally decided it was time to eat some food about 9:30 pm. Here's the breakdown of what we got... Cheese steak egg rolls with sweet & spicy chili sauce & honey mustard: Tasty! My husband really loved these. So much so that we had an order early on in the bar, and placed another order when we sat down for dinner. Prix fix menu ($45) which included, shrimp and lobster bisque soup, 6 oz. filet mignon with horseradish mashed potatoes, and black velvet cake: All amazing! The soup was flavorful, the filet melted in my mouth, the mashed potatoes were addicting, and the cake was super sweet and delicious, but very rich -- I only had one or two bites! Service was great and our food came out super fast (which was good considering how late we were eating). Up at the host stand they have tons of awards hanging on the wall. I was kind of surprised to see so many "most romantic" awards, because I didn't really get that vibe. Regardless, Sullivan's offers quality food and is conveniently located downtown Naperville which makes for a great date night! read more

When you end the night and ask yourself whether you would rather eat at Steak n Shake 20 times or eat here once and the former wins, there is a problem. We've been to the downtown location and the quality of their meat is better. Here, service is great, but for $200+ per couple, it should be. We went with the east coast oysters to start and a wedge salad. I was sad as to the sauces offered with the oysters- nothing special there. Then I got the mushroom duxelle stuffed filet and two grilled shrimp and the husband went with the dry-aged bone-in ribeye. Both were just okay (shrimp were great, but pricey at $3 each considering they are just grilled). No bottle of wine, just a few beers and a cocktail, and it was just over $200. i certainly would not make the hour drive back out here - especially to battle the ridiculous "downtown" traffic full of pedestrians who walk anywhere they want to whenever they want to. read more

I've been to another Sullivan's Steakhouse. It was meh at best. I had a friend that really wanted to take me here so I decided to try the one in Naperville. It was a very good experience and I wouldn't hesitate returning. It's across from the Naperville Riverwalk which is very beautiful and peaceful. That was a great start. The restaurant is a typical steakhouse and is very clean and the ambiance is spot on. Nicely done. We were seated quickly and our waiter was very good. Attentive without trying to push us through the meal. We started with the Calamari. It had a spicy/sweet sauce with nuts and sesame seeds. I have to stay away from the nuts, and they had no problem accommodating it. It was very good. For dinner, I decided to try their Salmon. My friend had a 3 course dinner with the filet. The salmon is a huge portion done very well. It was really fresh. The asparagus on the side was done very well too. Sometimes it's a bit underdone and they nailed it. We went with a recommended Cabernet with dinner which hit the spot. The only reason I am not giving it five stars, is they had nothing memorable. If I lived in Naperville, this would be a go-to destination for any formal meal or business dinner. I would look forward to trying everything on their menu. I do live quite far (30+ miles) and there was nothing that said I had to make the trip next time I wanted steak. If I am ever in the area, I wouldn't hesitate stopping in again, if nothing else for a cocktail and appetizer. read more

Went Sullivan Steakhouse today for Fathers Day. This was my first time at Sullivan's Steakhouse. The Mrs treated me for Fathers Day. Our waiter was Dan. I wanted an IPA beer I asked Dan what he recommended. (see photo) The IPA beer Dan offered tasted bad. I ordered house cut Ribeye medium well. Dan said do you mean with pink throughout your steak. I said yes. My steak was delivered charred, tough to cut with the steak knife. Most of the steak appeared well done to me. I mentioned it to my waiter Dan and showed him after a few cuts there was no pink. Dan to my steak away and said he would talk with management. In less than 3 minutes Dan appeared with my same steak and show mea cut that had pink and showed me with one only cut to my steak how that represents the steak was pink throughout. It was not as Dan said because once Dan left the other cuts in my steak was dry and no pink. Looked more like my steak was cooked well done, not medium well as I asked. I left my glass of beer and the can untouched after my first sip because it tasted so awful. Noto CR did Dan ask me how was my beer. The Mrs ordered mashed potatoes with garlic and jalapeño. The stupid chef cooked the mashed potatoes with the jalapeño on top of the mashed potatoes and the jalapeño overwhelmed everything where the Mrs could not taste the garlic In the mashed potatoes only the jalapeño. My entire Fathers Day was ruined by a steak that was tough and overcooked, bad testing IPA beer that was recommended by the waiter and no special treatment by my waiter Dan after my complaint about my ribeye steak. Think about how you would feel after complaining the steak was not cut to what you asked, the waiter can't even make the call to get you another steak, he has to ask his manager. The waiter takes your steak away and brings it back to you. That is UNACCEPTABLE!!!! DONT EAT A SULLIVAN STEAKHOUSE IN NAPERVILLE IT WAS AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE ILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. read more
