Went to Sun auto for A check engine light and was called and told I needed to replace two sensors. W as quoted 499.00 dollars with the "engine diagnosis" Thought that that was a bit on the high side and checked Auto M.D. was given a list of shops and the high was 200.00 and low was158.00. DO yourself a favor and don't just take it for granted that this is the best shop, look aroud and you will find places that do great work and don't try and rip you off!! by the way it cost me 75.00 including parts to have my car fixed and needed just one sensor not two read more

I visited Sun Auto Service on 7-11-2019 to have a engine light diagnosed on my 2009 Nissan Altima. The needed repairs were extensive and totaled $2000. I had the person on the phone break it down as I was not going to be able to afford a $2000 repair. Battery, tune up, and the engine light problem which for the life of me I can't remember what it was called but they said if one side was doing the other should be replaced as well. It had to do with letting the oil change go too long. I was ready to do just the engine light issue and my husband who was listening to the call said, "Ummm no!" So, I called my usual mechanic and told him the issue just to see if the price they were quoting me was correct and fair since I was feeling uncomfortable with the whole thing. My mechanic told me usually if you cleaned it out and put it back together it was fine and the light would go off and that's what they would try first! I called Sun Auto and asked them to put the car back together and I would pick it up. When I did, the bill was $147!! He said it was the diagnostic charge that I agreed to when I left it. I was not aware of a diagnostic charge, I'm not even adverse to a diagnostic charge but $147 seems steep!! For no work done? I asked if I had the work done there now would the diagnostic fee be waived. NO! I asked if I could use a coupon and he said no, but he had a coupon available to lower it to $99 which ended up being $100.82?? When we drove the car home THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF and it hasn't gone back on. Guess my mechanic was correct. I'll have him do the next oil change and see if it actually needs a tune up. I'll replace the battery myself. Cost just went from $2000 to well under $500 and considerably less if tune up is not needed ($150.00?) At Sun Auto Service I felt I was being manipulated. I felt I was being taken advantage of. I won't go back there ever, even though it is conveniently located. I'll drive the extra miles and visit my longtime mechanic who, while not the most inexpensive, is ALWAYS the most honest and does the least expensive repair to fix the problem. Side note: While at Sun Auto, picking up the car, a friend of mine was in the waiting area while her car was getting repaired. She had gone there many times. When I told her later of my experience, she shared that she had gone in expecting to pay the previously quoted price in the $200s and when they went to repair it they said it was in the $400s. When she questioned the difference they said the quote was probably for just parts. What?? No one gives a quote for any auto repair that is "just parts". She won't be returning to Sun Auto Service either. read more

I was driving from Lake Tahoe to Scottsdale in my Yukon, when I heard a strange noise coming from my truck just outside of Las Vegas. Saturday afternoon, 4pm - I had to decide whether to keep going or leave the car in Vegas. Brandon and Tony from Sun were kind enough to test drive my car 30 mins before they closed. Tony knew right away it was the front differential (whatever that is) and advised against driving it to AZ. He also said it was probably covered by warranty so I should take it to the dealership! Sure enough, he was right and the guys at GMC said I would've had major problems if I kept going. These guys saved me, and didn't even charge for the test drive. I can't thank them enough and highly recommend them. read more

I brought my 96 Toyota Avalon to Sun Auto Service. I have had the car serviced there many times before and asked for only an oil change. A couple of hours later, I received a phone call from Robert informing me that the timing belt should be changed. The service would be $1650. I had not serviced the car before and my husband was out of town. He worried me that the timing belt was bad and he said the car had never had a new thing belt and though it had 163,000 miles on it, it should have been changed every 75,000 miles. I told him to just do the oil change until I referenced things further. Checked on Google and learned that the timing belt is not visible without much work to get into it to see. There would have been no way that he could visually see the belt. I reached my husband and told him what Robert had said and he told me that the timing belt had been changed 10,000 miles ago and Sun Auto had done the work!!!!!! Not only that, but the timing belt had already been changed twice in that vehicle. I found the paperwork from Sun that the timing belt had been changed recently and went in to talk to Robert about it. Now I was questioning whether the $3,000. of work had been done previously. When I spoke to Robert about it, he totally backpedaled what he had told me on the phone. He had never read through the records he had on my car and was obviously trying to scam me for work that the car did not need. Not only that, but he caused me quite a bit of worry that I was driving a car that had something seriously wrong. I feel that he took advantage of a situation where I was a woman alone and he was going to do expensive work on a car that was not needed. It is situations like this that give car mechanics a bad name. These places offer inexpensive oil changes and then find all kind of false things wrong with the car. I have used Sun Auto on Stephanie in Henderson for a long time but this has convinced me that I will never have any work done there again. I am very sad to have to write this review. read more

Let me start by saying this: customers have a right to be concerned about the services done on their vehicle and they have a right to ask questions. The man at the front obviously did not like questions being asked of him of why his oil doesn't even last 1k miles. No car ever in existence has to get its oil changed based on key clicks, that just means I can sit there all day and turn the key and have my oil changed in a day? We've had Fords, Chevys, Toyotas, Hondas, and Hyundays and this never happened. I came in and was concerned and I explicitly expressed my concern. I did not use profanity, i was just very firm. The man at the front got heated and said that I was getting in his face. Then he stormed out and loudly said "WOW" to everyone in his shop, effectively embarrasing us. SO rude. When we got home, I called Pepboys and they said that oil changes depend on milage and not how many time you click your key, they just didn't reset the light. So basically these people can't own up to their mistakes, probably don't know what the hell they're doing, and have no skills in how to deal with worried customers and questions they pose. The man at the front is very pompous, thinks he knows everything and has an answer for everything, whether it makes sence or not. 1 star simply for being an a**hole and having unreliable service. read more

Let me start by saying....as a female I'm always dreading going to a mechanic. I went in because my air conditioning broke in my car and my check engine light was on and it was getting too hot to ignore them!! I took my car in and Jesse was the one who took care of me. He was super personable, friendly....and dare I say, he even seemed to be trustworthy!! I actually had taken my car to another shop before going to Sun, and the mechanic at the other shop told me so many things were wrong with my a/c....I needed a new motor, I had to get freon....so many charges I wanted to get another opinion. So Jesse calls me back after my drop off at Sun....and turns out it was just a grocery bag that got sucked into my vent and blocked the air. Wow thank God for honest mechanics!! Had transmission rebuilt and given 12 month warranty, of course it went out about 13 months later. I am not a mechanic, but in retrospect (now that I have a remanufactured transmission) the work Sun Auto completed was obviously sub par. No comparison between the transmission I have now (36 month warranty) and the shoddy work from Sun Auto. Transmission now much smoother and obviously better. Indeed I should have taken it back months ago to Sun Auto, but you would also think they are the experts and would not have completed such horrible work. I know better now. Crazy thing is I only spent $500 more for the better transmission and much longer warranty somewhere else - in the middle of nowhere New Mexico is where because that is where our truck broke down. read more

I went in to have my car looked at and I was meet by a man named Carlos and I could not stand to be around him while I was there, he smelled like an ash tray and reeked that and was taking breaks every 15 minutes or so to go have a smoke. Every time he got to within 10 ft. or so all I could do was to cover my nose and try and walk away. I am a non-smoker and it was torture on my sense's to be around him. That and why is the company letting him take so many breaks to go have a smoke. He must have missed 3 or 4 phone calls while I was there because he was out side, one of the mechanic's came in and answered the phone. Once the manager got back the phone was always answered within the first 2 rings. read more

I called in for a price quote for replacing my rear tail and brake lights and the gentleman on the phone was very kind and helpful and told me that they would actually be able to replace my lights free of charge! I couldn't believe it because I had called another local auto repair shop and they quoted me $70 for the same service!! Unbelievable. Crooks. I had a similar experience to Jenni B. and Roberto. I found Sun Auto a On Angie's List where they had excellent reviews. After dealership told me my front brake pads needed replacement, I went to Sun Auto to save money. The dealership told me everything else was fine. Sun Auto changed the front pads, but also claimed the front rotors needed resurfacing because they were warped. More money, but i agreed. But when I picked up my car, I heard squealing every time I drove in reverse. When I called Sun Auto, they told me that was normal for new brake pads, they just needed time to adjust. Waited a few months but problem persisted and received same response. Finally brought the car in and they claimed it was the rear brake pads - the same ones the dealership told me were fine. I also told them I had vibration when braking on the highway all of a sudden. After a prolonged argument with the manager, they agreed to change the front brakes because it was under warranty. Afterwards I still had squealing and vibration and brought my car in again. Had another 20 min argument with someone until he agreed to change front and rear pads, as well as resurface rear rotors free of charge. After the work was completed, they said my rotors can only be resurfaced one time, so if the problem returns i have to pay hundreds of dollars (i think $500ish?) to buy new rotors. My car seemed ok for a few months but then the vibration got so bad I couldn't safely drive the car. I got fed up and went to the Toyota dealership who told me that Sun Auto lied - they can usually resurface rotors 2 or 3 times before they need expensive replacement. I doubt that Sun Auto performed the resurfacing at all. Anyway, I paid Findlay Toyota more money to repair Sun Auto's shoddy work and resurface my rotors, but at least my car is safe and running well. read more

We were on our way back home to California the day before July 4 and had our alternator belt break, we called them, Steve quoted us a very reasonable price and stated they could do the repair right away.... Upon arrival we got checked in and our car was on the rack with replacement belt on hand in about 15 min.... We were told about 1.5 for repair, but they got us fixed & ready forbour trip home in just under an hour!!! read more

I brought my old ford taurus to change or fix the steering pump and left the car with Sun overnight. I was very specific saying, I need to fix the pump before I sell the car. They said, we understand. Next day I came, they gave me an estimate $1959! This is for a $1000 car! In the estimate, they offered to change each and every steering part. As a result, I had to drive the car without the pump back home and you know how hard it is. read more

3/28/2015 - Took car to these guys to resolve specific engine codes. After several trips to this place and $1100.00 later, they have yet to resolve. So $1100.00, 4 months and 2200 miles later, they have yet to resolve the original problem, but from the beginning they agreed to not be the type of place to simply just replace parts for the heck of it. Prior to taking the car to them, I personally replaced some components that were typically related to this problem. It was only after the basics did not resolve the problem that I started searching for a reputable place to take the car and get the problems resolved. I made a mistake thinking this place was quality. They are just another typical rip off that replaces parts vs. fixing problems. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! Terrible service and a lot of shadiness going on when it comes to the work being done. Devin and the short manager with blonde hair and glasses are liars and you can see it on their faces. I came in a week ago with an A/C issue. Was told it was a "small fix" that cost me about $200. 6 days later the A/C stopped working again! Oh what do you know! I take it back and now my A/C compressor is completely broken and cost $1500 to fix. They say it wasn't like that before and "it must have happened in the last 6 days" ... Yea sure. Then they tell me they could put freon back in the car but it would only last a week. OH WHAT A COINCIDENCE that my air only worked for 6 days and trust me. They didn't look surprised to see me back. I firmly believe that they deliberately damaged my compressor so I would have to spend more money. And that's exactly why it only lasted a week. When before it would at least go back and forth from cold to hot. Now I'm stuck in 100 degree weather with no A/C and a 2 year old daughter. Due to shady antics and mechanics that are willing to damage something for more labor pay! Thanks Devin and crew! Thanks for nothing and stealing my money! read more

Came in for an oil change, and left with them telling me I needed $2,000 in repairs. Thankfully I had the presence of mind to ask for a print out and had him itemize the price on each different repair. Got a second opinion, and found out that not only were they going to overcharge me, but the "total overhaul" on the power steering was total bull. I paid less than $750 for the repairs I actually needed and my car is running great. I won't give these guys ANY more money! read more

Brought my vehicle in for AC service (leak) in March. I was told the Schrader valves, both high and low were leaking. I was told the "O" rings had to be replaced. Service included flush and recharge as well as red dye added to Freon. By June the system was again not properly cooling. Brought the car to another well known shop in Henderson. What they found. Incorrect "O" rings were installed and the high side Schrader valve was damaged. The technician used the UV light to show me where the Freon was actually bubbling out. I do not recommend this shop for AC repairs and analysis. read more

I have been going there for years just because it's convenient. When they first opened they were really good, thorough, and somewhat honest. Over the years they would change management and you would get some less then honest more "numbers" type management. This last time I went in it was really bad. I took my lexus in because I over filled the coolant and it was coming out of the overflow valve. Their mechanic who looks like they plucked him out from under the nearest shade tree, says I have a crack in the radiator so it needs to be replaced. $780. When i asked the mechanic where the leak is, he vant even look me in the eye. So I say no way. Their isn't any fluid leaking when it's just sitting there. Not one drop under the car, temp gauge never went above normal. I take it to 2 other places and pay for a coolant system check. Both places say nothings wrong, everything checks out fine. I asked them to specifically look for crack in the seem passenger side. Nothing. Go elsewhere. Trust me. Not the first time they tried to screw me. I'm the idiot that goes back. Mainly because it was close and they do free diagnostics. I'm wasting my precious time signing up and writing this. Incompetent, dishonest , rip off. read more

Came in due to power issue found out it was my alternator had it replaced. I had the reinspect for any issue then two days later service engine soon light comes on ( possible coincidence) take it back I now have a miss fire in one of my cylinder. Have them inspect and find out they sent completely sure what it is and need to do more but it would cost me 1700 for that. I say can afford it since I just paid 600 for the alternator. They charge me for the inspection so now I'm at 715 in cost. Crazy part is talking to the guy he said just be careful and be sure that engine light doesn't blink that means catastrophic engine failure I said I will look out for it. And guess what happens the day after I get my car back? The engine lights flashing. Seems really fishy. I would recommend staying away from this place. read more

My girlfriend brought her car in for a diagnostic. After paying for the diagnostic they told her nothing too important was wrong with the car. HER A/C DOESN'T WORK!!! I went in later the same day and the guy actually laughed and admitted that he never checked the a/c EVEN THOUGH SHE ASKED AND PAID FOR IT!! They told me that they can get it taken care of for $1500 but they still haven't looked at it. Stay away from this place. read more

Had an oil change and tire rotation... One of the tires was put on with two lugs missing. I noticed it when returning to my work parking lot. They had to replace some parts and I Was given three coupons for a free oil change by the manager. I went in with the first coupon and that manager was fired and the new one wouldn't honor it. read more

I took in my truck for the first time to see what was wrong with the horn that would not sound. They called me back asking for authorization for labor to check the wiring. I asked for a ball park end price and the response was, "I have no idea". The WRONG answer to give a customer on a first visit. Terrible first impression asking for a blank check on the very first visit. I could tell this was an attempt to run up a bill and got my truck out of there asap! I will take it to a more reputable company that I trust better this week! Scary stuff! I will definitely never go back there! read more

I'm afraid I'm starting to sound like a fanboy about Sun Auto, because this is my 3rd review. I go to Sun Auto because they are located a few buildings away from my office, so it is ultra convenient to leave my car there and walk to work. That being said, I keep on going back because they treat me right. I think their customer service is great. The first time I went there (see my earlier review), I thought I was in for a $500 service and told them so. They fixed the problem with a free sticker and charged me nothing. It was a patch job, but a free and effective one. Another time I used them, I told them I needed my van quickly b/c of a family vacation. They bent over backwards to get me the van on time, even though I didn't give them reasonable notice. The third act of great customer service is when they replaced my rotors, but it didn't fix the problem They immediately took the van back and replaced the rotors again at no additional charge. (I'm not sure whose fault it was that the first rotor replacement didn't work, but it doesn't much matter. Sun Auto fixed the problem and got me my van back in time for another family vacation.) This last time, I brought my van in because an electrical problem prevented the van from starting. The problem was random and only affected the van about every other day, and then only for a few hours. Diagnosing an off-and-on-again random electrical problem is hard. They took the van in and replaced a $30 part that they thought was the problem. They charged me about $100 to $150 for labor in diagnosis and repair. A fair price. I took the van home and a few hours later learned that they hadn't fixed the problem Sun Auto felt so bad that they towed the van back to the shop and worked on it for the next 2 days. I don't doubt that they actively worked on the car for several hours. In the end, they could never diagnose exactly what was wrong (again, electrical problems can be difficult), but they randomly tightened electrical connections in a Hail Mary attempt to fix it. Luckily, it worked. We haven't had any more problems with starting the car. I fully expected Sun Auto to charge me for the additional diagnosis hours they spent and possibly for the tow. Sun Auto refused to accept my money. While I wish that their mechanic was omniscient and fixed the problem the first time (again, I don't blame him because electrical problems are tricky), I love the customer service they gave me. I think they went above and beyond (and that they should have taken payment for the additional diagnosis and repair). They deserve five stars. read more
