This is our favorite restaurant in all of LA. We have been coming here for over a year now. The manager (Wally) and the staff are amazing , but the food is even better. Our favorites include: kale shakes, chocolate mint pie, pizza, vegan mac and cheese, Sun Burger, vegan nachos raw and vegan tacos. Awesome place...I love everything about it...it's pretty pricey though but that's expected...Please get the SUPER NACHOS!!! Must order it even before considering looking at the menu. lol...for entrees everything is good, can't go wrong with any choice. The Tacos Trio is ok...if you want to have Tacos, go on Taco Tuesday since it's only $3 I believe...Valet parking is a joke btw, the guy doesn't do anything and charges you $5 (but that's normal in So Cal). so, so, so, so GOOD! The lettuce tacos are insanely delicious. A definite must have. Another must have is the strawberry cashew shake. If you aren't a strawberry shake person, the cacao one is good too. If you are vegetarian/vegan who is dining with a carnivore, this is the place to take them. Becoming vegan can be daunting and a little strange but after coming here throughout my transition from vegetarianism to veganism I became far more excited and sure about my decision! The food is not only beautiful looking but some of the tastiest food in the area! Its a great place to take "non-believers" who think being vegan means going out into a field to graze because its zesty and satisfying towards any kind of food preference. The vibe is classy and relaxing, I've gone here on a date, after a work out and just to grab something quick. The staff is beyond exceptional and are always so helpful, friendly, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the food. I've never had a bad experience here and am making it a goal to try absolutely everything on the menu! So far my personal recommendations would be the Portobello Sandwich and the Nachos with jicama! Cute place, parking a bit challenging Service was attentive and friendly but the food took a long time to show up I had portobello mushroom sand- incredibly flavorful , delicious, kale salad yummy too. Wouldn't be off track for saying 'best restaurant' in LA! Dropped by this cozy looking place last night and just couldn't thank my wits enough! Well, the restaurant has got rustic cuisines and probably the most flavorsome ingredients without the guilt. We gave a try to the famous raw supreme lasagna and raw nachos - must say, a pure bliss! Everything was so perfectly prepared (yep, it says 'raw' but nothing really tastes like that). Veggies were fresh as heaven while the taste was mouthwatering. Really tickled pink to have found a spot to treat my potbelly - anyway, just a bit expensive for my pocket, but still worth every single dime! Do pay a visit to this one; SunCafe has got some of the most brilliant chefs on-board (preparing dishes from scratch with freshest organic ingredients). Delicious! I'm not (raw) vegan, vegetarian, or a health conscious eater. I was curious how creative these dishes were. I had the sweet kale shake which was extremely filling. The server was nice enough to give me a to-cup for my left overs. The sun nachos were amazing. Cashew cheese has changed my life and the jicama chips were refreshing. I started a 30 day raw food challenge and this place helped me get through a mid point slump. I was getting bored with the food at home and finding this place really helped me keep going. So I really wanted to give them 3.5 stars because its mostly above average. Lets start with the pros: The food was amazing. My friend had the mac and cheese which was some of the best vegan mac and cheese I have ever had. I had the Sun Florentine off the brunch menu and it was so so good. We both had a glass of lemonaide to drink, which was perfectly sweetened and refereshing. We both also ended our meals with Shakes--the coffee shake was easily one of the best blended coffee things I have had ever. So why only 3 stars with such a glowing food review? The service. The service was HORRIBLE. The place was not too crowded, and its possible they were short staffed (but then you say so so that the customer knows there is going to be a wait). Here are my service problems: 1. Our waitress never read us the specials, I didn't know there was a specials menu yesterday until I checked the menu today for the exact name of the dish I got. Why didn't she share the specials with us? They sound delicious and I might have gotten one of those instead. 2. We were asked if we wanted refills on our drinks after our places had been cleared, we had asked to see a dessert menu, and our drinks had been empty for about 1/2 an hour. At that point is it even worth asking? 3. We ordered our shakes to go with the check. We got the check, paid, still no shakes. Twenty minutes later we asked where our shakes were and we were told the kitchen was backed up. Fine, that happens, but then tell us that when you come to get the check or bring it back so we can sign the credit card slips. She said she assumed we weren't in a rush (then why did we order to go?) and when I said we were, the shakes magically appeared.... Overall I would say the place is a hidden gem food wise, and go for the food--just go with a lot of spare time and know the service is going to suck. read more

I love the concept of this place but, for me, the execution falls a little short. The free parking on Ventura is a bonus, the restaurant has an adorable ambience and very nice and ample outdoor seating! The food was good but, for $20, I expected more than a velveeta tasting quesadilla that didn't quite feel big enough for leftovers to justify the cost. The service was good (they lent me a charger I desperately needed to contact my friend I was meeting) but remarkably slow considering it was a very slow Tuesday night. Luckily the pumpkin pie was exquisite and just the right blend of creamy and spicy and, thankfully, GF! It even made a believer of my pumpkin hating friend!! I absolutely love this place. It's where I take someone when they ask, "what do you eat???" (I'm a vegetarian). My favorites are their nachos and garlic pizza. I've had almost everything on the menu. While some dishes stand out more than others, I've liked everything I've tasted so you really can't go wrong here. Their desserts are good, but most are rich/heavy so you might consider sharing versus getting your own order. The ambiance is perfect for any occasion--casual dinner with friends, drinks on the patio, romantic date, etc. The staff is incredibly friendly. There's a beer/wine sommelier who is extremely knowledgable. Definitely stop by the bar and have a chat about what wine/beer will pair best with your meal. They also have classes every Saturday AM for $30. I haven't been yet, but plan on attending one tomorrow. I'll be sure to do a write up! read more

I must say everything from the water to the seating the natural light and excellent food makes this a must attend!

I am currently eating out of my girlfriends plate because my dish was way too small for my appetite. The location and the ambience is beautiful. The outdoor eating area is climate controlled with heaters and they even have an outdoor fireplace that you have to option to eat by, allowing you to sit down on a plus outdoor sofa set. The customer service is superb and the food is delicious. A lot of the dishes are raw. It was my first time eating a raw dish but I can say that it was delightful. As I mentioned before, the portion sizes are small for the price you pay. I'm vegan with an appetite and I know i have to eat much more to feel full. Lastly I think the location, the ambience and the style of this restaurant is really the main experience here. The food is great but not amazing. If you're looking for a nice romantic location for a date then this is a great place in the late evening :) I may come back but the portion sizes may keep me a way. Regardless, deserves the 5 stars!
