The Nutella bolo bun was unique, but I didn't taste any bolo flavor. The Nutella was the main flavor, so it really was just a Nutella filled pastry. Cute store and perfect location as it's by the 5. It has many stores conveniently located nearby as it's in a shopping center. There's lots of parking as I'm sure this plaza gets crowded. There's a good selection inside but I couldn't tell which ones I had liked from a friend gifting me some. It was a bit busy but not too crowded as it's still a small store front. Disappointed to report back that the other reviews about their taro cake are spot on. I took a gamble and gave it a try since my mother in law loves taro and I wanted to get it for her birthday! It was decorated very nicely but the taro pudding filling fell short of my expectations. The pudding layer had literal ice chips in it like it needed to "thaw"' and the taro was quite chunky and hard. The best cheese foam in town. It took me a while to be willing to try cheese foam. It was gaining popularity, but I was never willing to try it. One day, I did try it, and Happy Lemon inside this Sunmerry makes it consistently good every time. You don't need a straw, because you drink it out of the cup. The best way to get some foam and tea. I came here recently after a delicious dinner at A & J. My parents enjoy the bread selection here, but I was more interested to try Happy Lemon! I've heard so many things about Salted Cheese Tea for the longest time but was a little weirded out by the concept. How would cheese taste good with tea? Well Salted Cheese Tea now has a new a convert! I ordered an Green Tea with Salted Cheese (50% sugar) and was pleasantly surprised by the price (around $4 I think?). I ordered it with the special lid instead of a straw to have the full 45 degree experience. I love how they have instructions next to the counter about how to enjoy the drink. Basically, you're supposed to drink your tea at a 45 degree angle so you get some of that salted cheese foam with the tea. After a few minutes, my drink was ready. One sip and I was impressed! The salted cheese wasn't very salty - it tasted more creamy than anything. Similar to the foam on fancy coffee drinks, the creamy flavor of the salted cheese offset the tea flavor very well. I'm glad the 50% sweetness was very lightly sweetened, so I could enjoy the creaminess of the salted cheese. While Salted Cheese Tea won't replace my forever fave boba drink (Lychee Green Tea), I'm officially on the bandwagon for this new trend! If you're on the fence, definitely try it! read more

Cutest little bakery! I discovered this place by chance, because they are by 7 leaves, and I wanted to check it out. I'm SO in love with their Pineapple Tarts!! I've been trying to match the ones I bought in Hawaii, and Sunmerry is the closest match. The setup is exactly like 85 Degrees. You get your tray, pick your pastries and go! The almond shortbread cookies are the BEST with hot coffee or tea. I bought my son the custard angel cake, it's wrapped in cute safari animal paper. The cake was surprisingly delicious! I also liked that it wasn't TOO sweet! The custard inside was light as well. Next to the bakery side they have a boba station where they make milk teas. I read a sign saying they have their famous "Cheese Foam" milk tea, been dying to try it! Customer service is always great! The cashiers get you in and out very quickly, and the pastries are always nicely wrapped. For Christmas, I bought my managers some Pineapple pastries as little gifts, and they wrapped them so elegantly! Definitely will be back!! read more

Old Jamie used to come through for croissants and maybe a cake every now and then, but new Jamie has expanded her horizons. I've recently become obsessed with their savory selections and my recent discovery for Honey Lemon's salted cheese foam drinks has gotten me addicted! And it's crazy to think this just happened about a month ago, haha. My coworker actually introduced me to Honey Lemon and their salted cheese foam. It's very similar to the trending salted milk foam or sea salt topping at a lot of tea places. I had to try it, so I went the Black Tea with Salted Cheese. What an astounding flavor! A week later, my friend was visiting from San Diego and was raving about the taro mochi bread. Unfortunately, the day we went, they ran out since they were near closing at that time. So, I kept that in mind for this weekend since I was in the area. Boyfriend was picking something up at Lollicup, so I strolled in to try the Salted Cheese Coffee. On the Saturday I arrived, they had the taro mochi bread, so I picked one up. I also have a weird habit of never walking out with just ONE bread, so the shiitake mushroom cheese breadstick really caught my attention. The next day, we found ourselves in the same area to visit the same locations - Lollicup & Sunmerry. This time, I picked up 2 taro mochi breads and 2 shiitake mushroom, plus a Light Oolong salted cheese. Obsessed? Just a little. Will I be back? I had an amazing experience at Sunmerry Bakery in Irvine. The service was fantastic and I especially want to note two workers who made my time in Sunmerry amazing. Thank you so much to Kyle and Andy for providing brilliant and efficient service to me when my schedule was already tight. I ordered two things: the nutella cookie bun and salted cream green tea. I was speechless by the perfect sweetness and how moist the cookie bun was and oh my god dont get me started on the salted green tea otherwise this review would be longer than my masters essay!!! The salted green tea at sunmerry might be the best thing i have ever ingested. Everything about it was perfect and the drink was delivered to me in a couple minutes after i placed my order. Went to Sunmerry for a birthday cake today. The staff was super friendly. I bought a 6in Strawberry Custard cake. Loved how it was packaged! The box came with plates, little forks and candles! The strawberries were rotten. The cake and custard part was ok, but the fruit was awful. Really disappointed! I've been coming to Sunmerry for their breads and fresh lemon series ever since they've been in Irvine but never got to writing a review! My go-to's have been their classic bolo (the best I've ever had!) and their chicken cheddar (so filling!). The blueberry scones, shiitake mushroom cheese and garlic parsley breads are also family favorites! Usually you can't really go wrong with any item at Sunmerry but I would not recommend the Dalgona. It wasn't anything particularly special but I guess you get what you pay for. At most it's a good way to get your dalgona fix without the arm work out. read more

When I used to go in the office, pre-COVID, my usual stops for a quick breakfast were 7 Leaves + Sunmerry. Both are just few steps away from each other at the Jeffrey/Walnut location. They have so many pastry options, from sweet to savory. They also have cakes. Last year, this is where I got my niece's birthday cake, and she absolutely loved it! Their pastries are great, some are not-so, but for the most part, it's delicious. They bake it fresh right when they open in the morning. So, I recommend coming in early if you want freshly baked goods. Some of my favorite pastries from here are: Custard Bun, Taro Bun, and Shredded Pork Bun. I've also tried their savory buns with meat inside, and those I did not like. I prefer their sweet dessert treats over their savory ones. I've also tried their egg tarts and they were equally just as good as the ones from JJ Bakery. Not quite as good as the ones from Paderia, but good enough if you get the egg tart cravings. One thing I really appreciate about this place is that they make their pastries/cakes with the perfect level of sweetness, especially their cakes. It is light and not overly sweetened. Additionally, the frosting is also mild and NOT overwhelmingly filled with sugar. I got the Strawberry Vanilla last time, and the strawberries were fresh. What is unique about this location (as well as two of its LA locations in Monterey Park and Temple City) is its partnership with Happy Lemon Tea House, which occupies half the store space. Sunmerry Bakery has over 80 breads and cakes baked fresh daily. They are popular for their green tea croissant and chashu pork bolo buns. Happy Lemon, Home of the Salted Cheese Tea, specializes in freshly brewed black and green teas with an optional add-on salted cheese topping. The salted cheese topping is a unique blend of whipped cream cheese and rock salt that is suppose to enhance the sweet flavors of the tea and other boba drinks by giving them a subtle hint of salt. Like all Asian bakeries, there are some clear hit-and-misses. I did enjoy the subtlety of the green tea croissant and washing it down with a refreshing, iced black tea with real lemon slices. My only complaint would be that they do not remove the seeds from the lemon slices while they add them to your drink. This is the 'real' Summery Bakery! What I mean is that their location in Rowland Heights offers the same general menu but only a small fraction of the delicacies. Thus, when in Irvine, consider loading up on those salivatory gland inducers known as ham and cheese rolls (which really resemble croissants). The line,was fairly long on a Sunday evening. We arrived only intending to get drinks but grabbed snacks for coming days. Too bad it was so hot, otherwise we'd have considered some ice cream options. New items were being brought out as we waited to order, so despite some bins being unused it is evident they have and expect very high volume. Those cakes in the display? I want to dive into a whole pile of them sometime!!! Fantastic craftsmanship and exsquisite flavors and visual appearance. See pics. I enjoyed my drink so much it was gone before I knew it. It's nice that they're taking covid precautions like only allowing 3 customers inside at a time, but their system sucks. When you order a drink, they ask you to wait outside so other customers can come in. No one notifies you when your drinks are ready. After waiting over 10 minutes, I finally checked to see that they have just been sitting on the counter the whole time. There were other people waiting in line to go inside, so it didn't make sense for me to keep popping in to check on my order. How are you gonna ask people to wait outside and just place the order on the counter quietly? My wife also had the same experience when calling in an order. When she went to pick it up, there were already people waiting in line with only 3 allowed inside. So are you supposed to wait in line just to pick up an order? First I must credit 85degrees for putting Asian Bakery on the map in the OC. It was the first time I felt I could substitute the traditional dozen donuts with the less sweet, better breakfast option for folks to try and love. Since 85degrees many smaller Mom and pop bakeries has emerged and I'm my opinion, Sunmerry has perfected it. This is now my go to Asian bakery. Prices are comparable but quality and taste exceeds. It's not as crowded to get to either. My absolute absolute favorite pastry here is the BBQ pork. It's simply the best I've ever had and my go to whenever I think of BBQ pork bun. Sunmerry Bakery brings together two of the best things in life: carbs and milk tea. The only downside to having both is having the sweets and then drinking the milk tea which you adjusted the sugar level. The milk tea or just tea tastes so plain and bland after having all those sweet desserts so I recommend eating something savory or enjoying them separately. Earl grey croissant: 3.5/5 The earl grey flavor was very mild, coupled with a somewhat dry and hard croissant.. I would skip it next time. Tuna & egg french toast sandwich: 4/5 This was a very interesting item. The sweetness from the french toast actually works very well with the savory components of the tuna, egg and mayo. You'd be surprised. Try it out for yourself. Green tea donut cake: 4/5 Moist, light, and spongy even after 3 days old. The chocolate chips make it just sweet enough to enjoy. Pork sung bun: 5/5 Very tasty meat. The bread is soft and fluffy. Probably one of the best pork sung buns I've had. Matcha Pumpkin Danish: 4/5. Such an interesting combo but it surprisingly works well. The danish itself is buttery and flakey. Although paired with the light matcha coating, it's perfection. The pumpkin on the inside adds a creamy sweet potato-like texture. Ube danish: 5/5 This was by far my favorite. The bread is slightly sweetened, soft, and on the inside, theres a real heaping of steamed ube. Prices are really reasonable and most of the items we had were enjoyable. Parking is plentiful as it is located in a large parking lot. I'm not sure why other Yelpers had said parking was a pain. I went on a Sunday afternoon around 3 pm and there was plenty of parking. I even had a confirmation e-mail from Sunmerry. But about 30min later got call from Sunmerry in Irvine and saying that it was website mistake that the order went through even though they do not have the fathers day banana mouse cake. A guy asked me if I can order something else or refund. So I told him refund asap. He said ok. But there is no refund. They charged right away even it was their mistake. But no refund quickly??? So, on the way home I stopped by at Sunmerry, Irvine. I got 2 pork sung breads, bbq bread and a drink. It was a long drive back home so I started eating one of the pork sung. First few bites were okay. Then it started to get hard to chew so I grabbed a drink to be able to swallow it. Then again, it felt really weird like chewing something but couldn't cut it, so I spit out and found some paper in that bite. I thought I ate the wrapper that comes with the bread. But then realized this bread doesn't come with the wrapper! So I checked back at the bread and found a big piece of paper still in there... and I already ATE HALF OF THE BREAD. I had to drive back to let the store know this issue.... like I said earlier it a long drive back home... :( and now I had to drive TWICE... I talked to the manage. He apologized for what had happened and refunded the previous transaction right away. Unfortunately, those batches of the bread came from another store, weren't baked from this store. He has to contact his boss to get this issue solved. I left my info and he gave his. So hopefully I get to hear back! This really makes me sick. :( I just ate paper...... Well, I still gonna give two stars because this was the first time, at least for me. ‍ And the manager, Roth, took care of the issue really quick and well.
