Great drinks. Terrible service. The server asked everyone to wait outside once you ordered drinks (COVID), and they will call us. I assumed either they'd have a speaker outside or bring the drinks out. There was a line of people waiting outside in the sun for drinks, to realize that the drinks were already been made but just left inside. I notified the server that no one could hear their calls outside because the door was closed. Perhaps having a speaker set up would be nice, or simply come outside to let us know. In return, I received attitude from her. She said "I'm calling as loud as I can" and returned to work. Please use your brain and humbly accept feedback. read more

A small bakery with a decent assortment of breads. The selection is almost as large as 85°, but there's hardly a line. Bread is baked fresh throughout the day, so the selection varies depending on the time you come in. All the popular items are usually stocked, and the smaller amount of foot traffic almost ensures that you'll get what you want. Some essentials and favorites that I've fallen in love with are the BBQ pork bolo, black sesame mochi, pork sung puffy pastry, and the garlic beef roll. They are other options available, and the full list can be found on their website (https://www.sunmerryus.com/menu). The BBQ pork is tender, juicy and flavorful. The bread is soft, flaky and light, and there's a good amount of butter basted on top. Most of the baked buns have butter basted on top for extra fat and flavor, but there are times when it's clearly evident that they've gone a bit overboard. I really like the black sesame mochi. It's a perfect blend of both. The black sesame is finely ground and mixed in with the mochi, which is nice and chewy. The bread is soft and buttery. The garlic beef roll is really buttery, but the garlic is limited to the outer layer, so you'll only get garlic flavor in the first couple of bites. All the bread that I've tried has been executed well and there hasn't been any disappointments in any choice I've made. They also have coffee, tea, boba, full cakes, egg tarts, sliced toast, and puddings that come in cute glass jars. We have been going to this place for years. They are cheapening out with their ingredients. For example, instead of two cream layers inside a cake, now they are substituting cheap jam to replace that layer. In addition, there were hardly any strawberries inside the cake. You cannot blame everything on inflation but dont start cheapening out. Also, texture was off too. read more

I love their bread and the jasmine green tea with salted cheese! It's been my favorite forever! My only concern was that none of the employees (bakery, cashier, barista) wore gloves and it's concerning regarding covid. Came to this location because I was on a search for Happy Lemon and this was the closest one. Parking/Seating - The Bakery is located in a plaza with a ton of parking & shops - Lots of parking available, but during the weekends it gets pretty busy - No seats inside but there are a few outdoor tables with umbrellas for people to sit Drink: - Ordered the Black Tea with Cheese Foam (75% sweet), the drink costs about $4.25 which is pretty pricy but I love the combination of salty and refreshing tea - I don't like the taste of the green on top of the cheese foam, but the overall drink is delicious. The black tea tastes similar to iced lemon tea served in cafes and the cheese foam is a lick your lips yummy. You can also get baked goods at this location so I'd recommend coming here if you want to explore to sit with a friend. read more

We love coming to this spot to get their pastries, savory breads, and cakes! It's a small bakery located off of Jeffrey and close to the freeway. They are taking Covid precautions and limit the amount of people inside to 3 or 4 max. The breads are all individually packaged and you place your breads into bags or boxes instead of trays when selecting your breads. We like their matcha tea croissant. It's nice, buttery, and flaky. Sunmerry Bakery has an assortment of pastries and cakes very similar to 85° Bakery or even Paris Baguette. It's a take as you go concept which means that it's first come first serve for any pastries or desserts and you pick it from each glass cubby that has a door and place it on your tray. There aren't as many variety compared to the other two chains but the taste is just as good if not even better depending on what you try. These are a few of the pastries I tried: -Shredded Pork -Mochi Taro -Curry Donut - A must try! The curry donut was filled with flavorful curry and had the right ratio of donut vs curry. It's too bad the curry donut wasn't warm though -Garlic Roast Beef -Shitake Mushroom Cheese - A must try! The Shitake Mushroom Cheese had bits of mushroom along with the cheese swirled around the bread. A great snack to try with less calories compared to the other filled breads. I also ordered my favorite drink from Happy Lemon which is the Black Tea with Salted Cheese Foam drink. Many people don't know but there is a Happy Lemon inside this bakery so you can get a drink while you're picking up a snack/breakfast! The baked goods here are always so fresh and the drinks they make are so authentic. Parking can be a bit difficult but there's parking in the back of the plaza as well! They may not have a large variety of bread but their cake and customer service is far better than what I've gotten at 85°. I called in late Saturday afternoon in a hunt for a tiramisu cake and they only had one left. Lovely lady on the phone offered to reserve it for me until I got there. 20 minutes drive to the bakery and in less than 5 minutes I am out the door with a cake on hand. This Review is only for Happy Lemon Drinks: I love Happy Lemon, but the drinks at this location is not up to par as the other locations I've tried at. We came on a very hot day, and the bakery felt overheated and stuff. I ordered the jasmine green tea with salted cheese (my usual drink from Happy Lemon) and the drink was bland and watered down. Maybe my expectations were high since it was so delicious at the LA location, but it really wasn't as good as I expected it to be. It may have been that the ice had watered down the drinks because it was so hot, but I'd be willing to give it another try so that I can get my cheese foam fix in the OC. read more

I've tried Sunmerry breads before at my local Happy Lemon, which primarily serves drinks, but sells a few breads occasionally. It's really nice to see a location that is the opposite and more focused on the Sunmerry bakery side than on the Happy Lemon drinks side. This location is decently spacious and they have a wide variety of bread to choose from! The experience is very similar to 85c where fresh breads come out frequently and the breads have that shiny look and slightly greasy taste to them as well. We tried a coconut raisin twist, as it had just come out from the back and was still warm. It was pretty good, but I still think overall, I like 85c breads better, as they seem to have more healthier and mainstream choices. I do prefer the drinks here, though - try the grapefruit green tea if you're looking for something super refreshing with real tartness and bits of fresh grapefruit!!! read more

This place always has fast service and yummy baked goods. They are now serving happy lemon beverage products, so be sure to try those out. You can never go wrong with the nutella cookie bun or any of the strawberry pastries there. I love sunmerry even more than 85 degrees bakery! I love that the breads are slightly cheaper and I think they have a wider range of breads than 85 (the reason why I'm in love). I bought the hyped green tea criossant which was alright. I was thinking that the whole croissant had green tea flavoring but it's only the topping that has it. The honey taro bread was great for when I wanted my share of taro which is like always. I also got the sesame mochi bread which had a great amount of filling and a pork bolo bread which was fabulous. The jasmine green tea with salted cheese (L price $4.75) is very good. I am a fan of jasmine green tea and cheese, and the combo together matched really well. The sweet jasmine green tea with the thick, salty, cheesy foam works really well togetber. I am a huge fan of cheese and - even though cheese foam sounds like a weird thing to put in a drink, it actually compliments each other. You get a choice of getting a lid or seal. I get a lid because i prefer drinking this tea in layers rather than shaking it together. There is plenty of parking space in the plaza. Cashier was very friendly. He made an accommodation to my drink - there was only 'jasmine tea with salted cheese' on the menu but was able to make it into jasmine green tea. Freshly Squeezed Honey Lemon Green Tea for all you sweet and tart lovers out there. I found this to be a very refreshing thirst-quencher that I've come back a few too many times already during this hot summer we are in. 70% sweet was right on the money for me vs the regular which was way too much sugar. They don't carry boba here but instead they have TARO PEARLS. Let me just say, I'll pick the texture of boba any day. The SALTED CHEESE needs some acquiring in the taste buds and this can be likened to a sea salt foam that you can find at other Taiwanese boba shops. This however was thicker and saltier - not my thing. I may give it another whirl if I find myself in an adventurous mood but for now, I'm happy with my new found love for this tarty green tea drink with freshly squeezed lemon. I only really come here for their happy lemon drinks. My go to order is their black tea with salted cheese. If you're a fan of that salty sweet combo, then you'll love the salted cheese series. They offer black, oolong, or jasmine green tea and it's topped with their creamy salted cheese foam. You can get the drink sealed or with a lid. I usually prefer to get it with the lid so I can sip the tea with the foam top first and then add a straw to get it all mixed in together. The tea itself is very delicious and not too sweet. I haven't had any of their bakery items yet, but they look very similar to that of 85 bakery. All guests are required to wear masks and they limit the capacity of guests inside as well. All staff are wearing masks and I appreciate that they offer sanitizing spray for guests to use before reaching for bakery items. Also, I like how I can adjust the sweetness level here which is something I look for at all tea places I go to. I am fond of the Cookies and Cream Milk Tea because of the chunks of Oreo cookies and cream but other teas I have tried are either too watery or too sweet. This is one of those places where you get to choose your sweetness level and although I always select "standard", the drinks come differently every time. Too inconsistent for my taste. Their cheese foam is also average in comparison to other places but it has gotten better since the first time I came here. For pastries, they were decent enough. I do feel that the quality is a bit lower than something like 85 degrees. Pastries don't taste as fresh here. I've had the Matcha croissant, Earl Grey croissant, and Hokkaido milk cake and all were good, but nothing special. Service is below average and a bit frustrating. It's located right across the freeway on Jeffery with a bunch of Asian restaurants, so perfect to stop by for dessert after eating a meal in the mall. I've gotten their pastries/breads in the past, my favorites are the croissant and sausage toast! They recently added drinks from Happy Lemon, which is famous for their cream cheese tea, but they also have non-dairy teas as well. I got the fresh lemon black tea ($4.25, one size only) ft. Happy Lemon. 50% sweetness was perfect for me, wish they put less ice though. I liked how they put whole lemons and the taste of tea overpowering rather than sweet. Next time, I'll get the cheese cream or a drink with boba in it. read more

Service: I came here for the Happy Lemon BOGO sale. Cashier was helpful in explaining to me the rules of the bogo since I had no clue. Make sure you keep your receipt with the order number because they check when your order is called. Ambience: it's a small little bakery. Not much room to just stand inside and wait for drinks. But it smells good inside and you have all the cakes to look. Food/Drinks: I have to come back to try their pastries. Their desserts looked really good. Most interested in their Black Forest and Tiramisu cakes (it's my parents favorite). Got to put them to the parent test. Lemon Green Tea: I liked this one more than the grapefruit one. To my sweet surprise, Happy Lemon was located inside Sunmerry bakery. I scored an Asian created "parking spot" and was on a mission to pep myself up. I ordered all cold drinks (some drinks come hot as well): -Green tea with SALTED CHEESE: I've tried this both hot & cold. With the hot drink, you can taste more of the salted cheese. It sounds weird, but rest assure, it works. The fragrant green tea is topped w/ a creamy layer. It's creamy w/ a hint of saltiness. Almost, "cheese-like." Quite addicting. The cold version tasted more like a jasmine green milk tea. -Milk tea with TARO balls: ON POINT! Just the right balance of sweet and tea! The taro balls are smaller than boba, but with same consistency (chewy w/ a nice bite) and a little more character! Taro flavors are faint, but complements the drink well. I actually prefer this over boba! What a revelation for me :) Out of the 3 drinks, this was the FAN FAVORITE! Yup, we had a tasting party w/ the 3 drinks. Can you say germ overload? LOL! -KUMQUAT lemon green tea w/ lychee jelly: refreshing drink! This is a great option if you want a non-dairy drink. Kumquat flavors are mild though. I love the breads and cakes here! Also if you love pudding definitely get some :) I'm here to leave a review about the cheese drink though sooo here goes. I got the green tea cheese drink and I thought it was pretty good. I had no idea what to expect though, so here's my attempt at an explanation of what it tasted like: normal sweetened green tea, but the foam on top is a lot like latte foam (kind of) and is pretty much a cream cheese flavor. I'm normally not a fan of cheese desserts (like cheesecake) but I actually really enjoyed this drink. Definitely recommend trying it at least once and seeing if you like it or not because I definitely did! Side note- it was super cute how they had directions how to drink it lol. I came down into Irvine to try the A J Restaurant next door. After dinner, I decided to pick up some pastries for breakfast for the week. I saw the Sunmerry Bakery and decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised that there is a Happy Lemon in it too. In regards to the bakery, it looks like an imitation of 85 degrees (I don't know if Sunmerry came first or if 85 did...) with a few exceptions. The matcha/green tea croissant is one of those exceptions. This croissant is pretty decent and the green tea is creamy-ish. Price-wise, I think it is comparable to 85 degrees. In terms of the Happy Lemon, it's pretty similar to the Happy Lemon store in Rowland Heights. I think they have a heavier hand with the lemon juice than the Rowland Heights location, but it was nice to find this store rather than drive all the way into Rowland Heights for my Happy Lemon fix. The store seemed pretty clean. My one big gripe is the parking in this lot. The parking is HORRENDOUS! People even start parallel parking where they aren't supposed to park because it's just such a busy plaza. It is also a pain to get out of the plaza if you want to go east on Jeffrey. read more
