I would like to start out by pointing out that their overall rating is three stars. That with them bribing each customer with a discount for giving them a 5 star yelp review. Today (fourth of July) I called and asked how much is the buffet today. The person who answered said $13.99. I also saw the 10% off for a 5 star review. My family and I ate and when we were done they bring the bill. It was $15.99, and no discounts are given because of the holiday. When I brought it to the front they told me that there was no way to ring up $13.99. To which I replied that maybe they should tell that to the person answering the phone. I'm not sure how to rate this buffet. I didn't think it was bad, but it was not the best. I did enjoy the chicken and mushrooms, as well as the house noodles. They have a variety of food, that includes sushi, crab legs and shrimp if you dine during dinner. The crab legs are not worth it though. They're very skinny(snow) and very little meat. Shrimp is peel and eat which is typical for buffets. It was not crowded at all, I went around 5:30pm during the week which seems to be the perfect time. It's Open! It's been a long time coming, but I'm so happy the buffet is back and I can get to stuff myself with endless plates of coconut shrimp and lo mien! I've been coming here since I was a kid almost for 14 years and it's always been great. This is a family runned business and a staple in San Diego. The prices are more than fair and the food is always good. I love anything they make with chicken, the coconut shrimp is easily the one of the best dishes (they are always putting more out so it's extra fresh), and the sushi is so fresh, but you can't go wrong with anything they have. So. I initially did a 5 star review, but only because im a true fatass and I wanted the 10% discount that they give out ONLY to 5 star reviewers. As soon as I left, I decided to do an accurate review. First. The service was equivalent to that of two year olds during a meltdown. They acted as if they were so upset that I dared to come into their establishment and made me feel uncomfortable the entire time, by staring at me while I devoured 9 plates. That's right. 9. Second. 25% of the food was delicious while the other 75% was about as good as what I could do with a frozen meal. Third. Cleanliness was refreshingly apparent, which is why it gets the 1 star. Bathrooms, table, floors, all clean. Then again, I came on a weekday around 3, so not a lot of people. Overall I enjoyed my company regardless of the awkward glances and the waitress standing extremely close to me while paying - waiting for some type of tip - but I paid (with my 10% off coupon) and left without a second thought. The dinner price was only $15 on a weekday so it's relatively affordable in comparison to the other chinese buffets in San Diego. If you're hoping to use Yelp to get the 10% discount, keep in mind that you must purchase 1 drink as well for the discount to work. I see a bunch of 10% of posters everywhere for 5 star reviews, which I do think is unethical. Food wise, it's passable. For dinner, there was some short rib, king crab legs, fried soft shell crabs, oysters, crayfish, and other deep fried food you normally get at Chinese buffets. No prime rib though. They also have a selection of sushi but it's really just variations of california rolls and salmon and tuna nigiri. Honesty, you get a much better selection at the other chinese buffets, even during lunch time. The food tasted alright but some of the seafood did taste a bit questionable. It's been 20+ hours and I don't have food poisoning (and never does anyone else in the party) so while it's not the freshest, it's definitely not the worst. And I ate way too much because I like to live my life on the edge, evidently, and try to find any excuse to miss work the next day. My main complaint though is that they never really refilled the main dishes and my party had been there between 7:30-9:00PM. The only thing that had been replaced had the been salt and pepper shrimp. I expected the food to be refilled and replaced just once. Instead, it was just the same dishes sitting under a heat lamp the entire time which makes the quality questionable. If they had replaced the food more often, I would have probably bumped the review up to a 3. The service was okay. They weren't overly friendly and sometimes, it did take a while for our plates to be cleaned away and we never got water refills. But, they were pretty quick with everything and the customer service wasn't really as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. read more

Many choices of food compared to other Chinese buffet restaurants. The place is clean in my opinion. Servers are friendly and professional. I definitely enjoy dining here. Chefs are from China (not cooks from other countries) I asked the waiter and they definitely got skills no doubt about it; however, I like waiters to have interactions with customers and give out recommendations of the restaurant. $17 dollars is not bad for what they got in the restaurant. Honestly, I don't care what yelp reviews say, if I like the restaurant, I will visit again and again. I vote with my dollars, not words. The food was actually genuinely good tasting and good quality which is pretty hard to find nowadays in terms of Chinese food buffets here in SD. Dinner price $15.99, food is worth the value-- $15.99 includes lobster and galbi, two foods that have never been included in buffet dinners in my area (Amherst area). Amherst area buffet dinners are also around $15.99. Sunrise Buffet also has shrimp, fish, and I think crab. Better than your average Chinese/Asian Fusion Buffet in the same price range. The seafood options are great for buffet standards; mussels, shrimp, etc. The only gripe I have is the Orange Chicken and Coconut Shrimp, too much flour and not enough meat. I really don't like Chinese buffets or buffets in general, but my boyfriend does so we go every now and then. For the most part this place was okay. It was just a place to grab a quick cheap bite. There is definitely nothing outstanding about it, but I didn't mind going until I saw something disgusting. Weekends are ridiculously busy, so service is spotty. We waited about ten minutes to be seated. When we were finally seated, our waitress gave us some silverware... and it was filthy! There were bits of food still clinging on to it. I don't normally use silverware if a restaurant has disposable utensils, but I actually needed to use a spoon to eat my soup. And the only disposable utensil they had were chopsticks Obviously you can't eat soup with chopsticks so I had to ask for another spoon. And although a got a new "clean" spoon and could not shake the thought of the food that was on the other spoon. Let's just say I didn't eat much after. She said, " it for a larger party it seats 6 and they are almost full". As a restaurant owner I would understand if its a weekend and .you are 80 percent capacity, but come on its Monday , 3pm, last day of the month and your dining area is less than 15 percent capacity I should be able to sit at the buffet line if I wanted to. So I walked out like a bauus. We have been coming here sinse they opened and leave anywhere from 60-120 dollars a month and adds up to $1400 a year. Its to bad that some people know NOTHING about customer service but what do I know I only have the highest yelp reviews in our category within 5 miles. This place is bass akwards. I happened to chance it for dinner one night with my bf and two of his friends. I had absolutely no idea what I was in for. Another disappointment was the "crunchy chicken" which was anything but....it was drenched in sauce and was more soggy than a baby's diaper after playing in the ocean... (and just about as appetizing.) The only thing that kept me from not eating at all, was the sushi. It may not have looked all that great, but it tasted alright. And by alright, i mean a step or so above gas station sushi. (But when you're hungry... you eat what's available to you, right?) Though I've only made one trip to this place, I feel like i've given it a fair enough chance, by trying a good mount of things.... I simply was not pleased. First timer. Never going back! I arrived there around 11:30am an hour after they opened so I expected nice fresh hot food. Everything I got was cold, there was a bunch of people and food keep coming in but why is it cold? I got a sampler plate of just a tiny bit of everything. Food was okay tasting. Cold. Meats had weird texture. An suddenly I'm full... wait what? I just got here less than 30 minutes ago. I had ate nothing previously and after one plate I'm full but not satisfied, I try to get some other things to try them and I can barely fit anything. I wait, and I still can't eat anymore, soon then i feel nauseous and like I wanted to throw up. WHAT THE HECK DO YOU PUT IN THE FOOD?! My friend also got a sampler plate, different things that I did and he eats a lot, one of those skinny guys who eats a damn lot and who knows where the food goes. He only had a plate and a half, a bit more than I did. So we stared at each other... WHAT THE HECK DO THEY PUT IN THEIR FOOD TO MAKE YOU FULL FASTER?! We fell so sick after we realized this. Food looks good and shiny but they are probably adding some nasty substances to make their food fill you up faster. I fell so sick and couldn't eat anything else all day. You just get to eat to your heart's desire. The downfall of a buffet is that instead of doing a few things well, there are many things done with mediocrity. This place was just OK for me. I have been here before and vowed to never come back but you always have to give places a second chance. Went for lunch today and saw that the outside still looks really run down but the inside is OK. William was our waiter, he was friendly and courteous. The refills for the drinks were not slow at all. The selection for the buffet was OK but many if the items were empty in their trays. I went over to the Sushi station were there is a very hard working rude little man trying to keep up with the people grabbing food. I grabbed the tongs and attempted to get something and he started grumbling as if taking two was too many for me to have. I moved to the next option and grabbed two more and there he went again grumbling. I said out loud "You know I can hear you right?" and he lost it. I don't know what he was saying but I am pretty sure it was not very nice. If you really want to make him mad put the tongs down somewhere other then the plate there, I thought he was going to jump out from behind the counter with a Samurai Sword and cut me! DANG CALM DOWN SIR! There is a barrage of seafood items from boiled to fried shrimp. The crab legs had the black barnacles on them and I am pretty sure that "Worlds deadliest catch" always throws them back so I chose not to eat them. The thing that I enjoyed the most were these huge Oysters in black bean sauce. I enjoyed the Sushi from the crazy man and I also liked their Dim Sum. I liked their soup options as well. I was actually very suprised to see they had Prime Rib and that you can actually cut your own meat. Their scallops are nasty because of all of the fillers they add into it to make it more cost effective. The Sole fish was tasty but had way too many bones for my liking. There was also a lobster item and I am not sure what it was I describe it as "Parts are parts" I am not sure what parts they were other then the claws but I was pretty sure the meat should not have been black inside so I didn't eat that either. The Green beans and the bok choy was cooked perfectly. For dessert I had a small bit of ice cream and few squares of jello and FLAN :-) They also had a seasame cluster that was amazing.
