YAKITORI SHRIMP: I was blasted by the freshness and tenderness of shrimp. How can they make grilled shrimp so right! I'm going back to try their yakitori chicken or tofu. My roll was good! I'm vegan and was happy to see the the veggie dragon roll on the menu (a much more exciting option compared to most sushi restaurants that have just a simple cucumber or avocado roll for vegetarians) My roommate and boyfriend also ordered some sushi but unfortunately they packed the all sushi together in the same container. Next time I'll be sure to specify that I want the vegan/vegetarian sushi packed separately. Sorry but this is truly not good Sushi. I think they store all the fish in water and that makes it taste just so bland , there are hardly only a few rolls that are not spicy tuna ( low quality ground tuna with spices mayonnaise mixed in) and no real crab at all. My boyfriend had vegetarian udon and the broth was literally like hot water. They only offer sodium free soy sauce that I dislike because there is no taste whatsoever to it. Sushi Itto is the best and most underrated sushi in Atlanta! I always order take out and they have a variation of vegetarian options which I absolutely love. I am writing about my experience on November 26. I had heard great reviews and Sushi Itto usually makes impressive numbers on lists of things like "Underrated Sushi Places in Atlanta", and others. We walked in exactly at 6:30 (the planned meeting time) PM. There was no one at the hostess booth, and about 15 people seated. It was pretty sparse. There clearly was one person working the tables, and two sushi chefs. We were seated within 5 minutes, no problem. We were not in a rush. We were not approached until 7:10 PM. I am talking not acknowledged after the seating, no eye contact, etc. At that time, we gave our orders. We did not receive our water until 5 minutes before the meal, which we received at 7:35. The food (teriyaki) was cold. The miso soup came out after the meals. As did the salads. All in all, the food was okay at best. The server was very apologetic, and a second person did come and help her. She had had a ridiculous night, we saw her drop a to-go order in front of a patron, she messed up some orders, she was frantic. I will give Suhi Itto another chance I really just want to know what happened. Other reviews praise the service and structure, so I am very curious to know what went wrong. Though a little slow to come out, you can tell that the sushi chef cared about the quality and filleting. My family constantly orders from here, so I know what greatness they're capable of. However, tonight when I came for dinner with a friend and a Scoutmob, my experience was rather lackluster. First, what is that smell?! Seriously, I felt like every 5 minutes, there would be this awful whiff of sewage-like odors coming from the back. It is known that half of taste comes from smell... so imagine what my dinner experience was like. *covers nose* Second, service was a little off. The waitress wasn't able to quite read our cues for when to come attend to us (taking our order, bringing the check, etc). I will say though, the portions were HUGE. The interior is pretty cute. There's a painting of a cherry blossom tree with falling leaves that spans the entirety of the wall. The food is great! I see why the place is rated so highly! My husband and I decided to meet for lunch at Sushi Itto, a new sushi restaurant that's a few doors down from Thai Chili on Briarcliff. The restaurant was small to average size and clean. We were the only people there. I attributed this to it being pretty new. The service was prompt, although our server seemed really nervous. I just wanted to tell her to loosen up! We got a complimentary order of edamame, which was nice but it had pepper all over it, which I thought was kind of strange. Salt on edamame - yes, pepper on it - hmmm? Plus the server kept saying edamambe. They had bento boxes for lunch which included sushi, sashimi, tempura or teriayaki with some other stuff - soup, salad and the chefs choice of some other things. The menu wasn't very specific about what kind of sushi or sashimi the bento boxes contained. We'll never know because we ordered three rolls to split instead. We had yellowtail and two others that I've forgotten the names of. All were good. The menu is on the more expensive side for a small, casual sushi place. They had some basic rolls in the $6-$8 range (california, tuna, etc) but most of the others were more. Lots of rolls seemed to include mayo but we asked for one without and it was no problem. All in all, this restaurant was fine, but I'm not absolutely dying to go back. I wish they had some sort of sushi lunch special that wasn't a bento box. read more

Ordered sushi to go for lunch. Ohhh man! Look how gorgeous this is! I got the St. Mary Roll, Stone Mountain Roll, and an order of Gyoza. It was some of the best sushi I have ever had! I can't comment on service or anything because I ordered on Postmates to be delivered to my office. But, I got it pretty quickly, and it was all delicious! Decent. The sushi is pretty good. The tempura coating is too thick and dense for my liking. The fried rice is good but sticky, almost glutinous. Dinner prices are higher than I'm willing to pay for this restaurant. But the lunch prices are pretty good - e.g., bento boxes (including soup, salad, rice, two sides) are $9 with teriyaki as the entree, $10 with sushi (3 pieces), $12 with sashimi. It's kind of a humble-feeling place. The menu is pretty simple, and the atmosphere is quiet, clean, and pleasant. Regarding the odor another review mentioned... I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of sushi here. My (future) roommate and I came here after checking out places to rent last weekend, and I saw that scoutmob had a maximum $10 off deal, which is not great but was still an encouragement for us since we were craving sushi. The place was essentially dessert around noon on a Saturday, and I wasn't initially aware that it was a seat yourself kind of thing. A sign might have been nice, in that respect. My friend got the Princess roll, and I got some veggie tempura and also a chef's special that came with various nigiri and a dragon roll (about 14 rolls for a menu price of around $20). The veggie tempura was good, and it came with mushrooms, onions (which weren't super onion-y), and carrots. The sushi was completely odorless, which means it was fresh, and had a nice toothsome give for each bite. I would definitely come back, though even with the $10 off, it was a little pricey. Probably the lower tier of a pricey sushi place, in terms of price. I was impressed though, so I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in the neighborhood again. read more

Dont overlook this place, also get their coupon from Scoutmob and you have no excuse to not give them a try. Both times I have been I had excellent service. The place, despite being in an unassuming strip mall, feels more legit than most. I think its a family joint as both times I have been there everyone working there was going back and forth in Japanese and a few people in a table in the back were also coming up and doing things behind the counter. I count this as a good thing. The food is good, its well executed and you get a variety of real sushi. They do some of the cheesy rolls that everyone just has to do to appease hipsters but you can just get some good Nigiri if you want it. They also have Mochi but make sure and ask for it without whipped cream, they bathe it in it. The only knock is they don have otoro, but its harder to get out east it seems. read more

For decent, low priced sushi, this place can't be beat. Their average rolls are cheaper than the sushi rolls across the street at Whole Foods, for example, but MUCH better tasting, and you get more too. Recommendations: I'm a huge fan of their cowboy roll. It's essentially a shrimp tempura roll with cream cheese and surrounded by a char-flamed slice of steak. Seriously delicious. For some reason, I don't dig their spicy tuna rolls, but I do like their basic california rolls. Nigiri is good here, and they have great deals. We live in the neighborhood, and there is slowly but surely a neighborhood following, but sometimes the place is empty, which can be disconcerting. It's a husband and wife who own the business and they are always there. I so want them to do well because their food is good and affordable. The sushi is better than most other places but it's also a little overpriced for what you're getting. However, Scoutmob in hand and you won't go wrong. My favorite is the Itto Paradise roll. It's very bright, creamy, but not swimming in mayonnaise. The crunch roll is also better than most other places and my mom always orders at least two. I usually tend to have the same server every time I go. I can't remember her name but she's Thai and super sweet and friendly. I had a different server the last time and she was also really sweet and attentive. I also haven't been when they are super busy (usually go on weekend lunches or week nights) so I haven't experienced anything negative with the service. In fact, it's been the exact opposite. As for non-sushi items, I've had a bit of my dad's teriyaki chicken (meh but he seemed to like it) and the tempura chicken udon soup. Meh. That pretty much sums up my feelings about Sushi Itto. Right off the bat I was pleased with the setting - a large open dining room with wooden tables and the sushi bar tucked in the corner. My friend and I snagged a nice spot by the front window and settled in for our ScoutMob discounted meal. Our server was polite and accommodating. When I asked to alter the eel roll and substitute cucumber and bell pepper for the avocado, she kindly obliged. I was less impressed, however, with the time that it took for said roll to reach our table. The other sushi joints in Atlanta typically have a wait time of 10-15 minutes from ordering time to arrival time. But here, it took more like 20-30 minutes. And it wasn't particularly crowded. It also took our sweet server a good while to replenish our depleting water supply. When our dishes arrived, we were intrigued by the fancy-looking seaweed salad that we had each ordered. Upon digging into the little cone-shipped dish with our chopsticks, we found that the little scoop of seaweed salad was merely sitting atop a bed of heap of shredded lettuce with a little bit of creamy dressing drizzled on top. This was a presentation and taste sensation that I had not yet encountered at another sushi restaurant. It was tasty, but I wish that there had actually been more seaweed salad in my seaweed salad. Or at least a menu description hinting at the variation. My custom eel roll was top notch. It was fresh and savory and well rolled. I am always pleased when I manage to consume my sushi without having it self destruct on me in a crumbled bite of sadness. When we got our check, we were savvy enough to catch the pleasant little surprise subtly printed on the receipt - an automatic gratuity charge. The server made no mention of it, and there was no eye-catching note about the charge. It always bothers me when that's thrown in without a warning. I feel like the establishment is trying to dupe me. All in all, I would say that it's a decent sushi joint. The meal itself was satisfying, but not mind-blowingly awesome. The problem with this restaurant: Overpriced for mid-level sushi. But if you are happy with this quality of sushi (it's "okay"), there are three alternatives within 5 to 10 minutes that will save you 25 percent. For example, some very basic rolls at Sushi Itto are $7 or $8. These same items for similar quality are $5 or $6 in several nearby alternatives. One thing for sure: Avoid their traditional Japanese entrées like teriyaki etc. A bit overpriced, mediocre, and chintzy. In a city with more sushi options in the middle range, I'm not sure this place would make it. But in Atlanta, one seems to be limited to very pricey, "gourmet" sushi or cheap, strip mall sushi.
