Brought some friends from the East Bay here on a whim for a late Sunday lunch. We were seated right away which was nice and were pleasantly surprised! The cocktails were pretty tasty -- try the strawberry Negroni! and the fish was super fresh!!! We got the chirashi bowl, sashimi platter and a couple rolls and thought they were all delicious. One of my friends mentioned the tuna tasted waaaay better than anything she'd had in the East Bay. The place is medium sized, you can eat outside on the terrace which is nice and It's right next door to Golden State cider. It's also an open kitchen and the bar had lots of great Japanese alcohol. Favorite sushi and poke place in Sebastopol by far. The fish is always fresh and delicious. Great miso soup and fantastic seaweed salad, too. They use a variety of seaweeds, and don't use the fake green dye to color it. One of my favorite orders is the Chirashi bowl; if you're up for a slight splurge, it's definitely worth trying, and you get an assortment of fish & eel. Ambiance is nice for casual or date night. We weren't a fan of the eggplant as it was somewhat salty- however I've not had this dish serve quite like this, so maybe that's just how it is. The chirashi was tasty but the salmon was sliced into bits instead of somewhat uniform pieces, that's also different. We enjoyed the grilled calamari and recommend it if you want vet from deep fried. Their Chicken Karage is so amazing, Chilled Spinach is a must try (trust me), and you can't go wrong with their Nigiri, and Rolls. Their team is so friendly, attentive, and if you haven't tried this place yet this is your sign! Mediocre sushi. Mushy tasteless rice, tasteless fish, tasteless mushy nori. Out of my nigiri selection, one piece, the salmon belly, was okay. Funny thing... tasteless wasabi. If anything shouldn't be tasteless, it's wasabi. Of course, wasabi loses its flavor overnight so we know how that happened. I asked for fresh wasabi (knowing that they wouldn't actually have real freshly grated wasabi) and what they brought out tasted like normal prepared wasabi. Seriously, everything I ate was so tasteless that I was questioning my own taste buds. The beer tasted fine, the edamame tasted fine, and the mushroom miso was actually pretty good, so I think my taste buds were working. Desperate to try to find some flavor, I ordered a roll. You know, an American style roll with freshwater eel and a squirt of sweet unagi sauce. More mushy and tasteless rice. If you like American style rolls you might like this place, and the rolls are huge. Maybe I'll come back and try their cooked food rather than sushi. read more

Kosho is the perfect choice for amazing Japanese cuisine, particularly if you desire high quality food and beverages paired with excellent service. The space is open and casual and they have an outdoor patio. Everything is wonderful. The beer, wine, sake and cocktails they offer are all first class but the fish is what sets them apart from any other Japanese restaurants in the area. If you crave quality, this is your ticket. Really enjoyed this Hawaiian poke bowl (to go) from Sushi Koshō! It was really fresh and a huge serving size. The rice was seasoned and it had fresh avocado too. This place is really cute, the staff are very nice and the fish is fresh but that's pretty much the only things good here. I'd give it a solid 2.5 because of the customer service. The miso soup was subpar, the mushrooms were a nice add. The dumplings were just bad, I had to double check the meat was beef because it was medium rare. The dumplings had a poor meat to fat ratio and seemed to have no flavor, despite the oil on top of it. The chicken donburi (which I honestly wasn't expecting to look like it did) had flavor but the chicken was dry, there wasn't enough sauce to compensate for that, and the powder they added on top didn't work; the redeeming feature was the onions on top. My friends got a roll with a panko outside layer, I refused to eat one because it just didn't look appetizing. They said it tasted exactly how it looked and wasn't awful. The nigiri set was disappointing considering the price. Even at the cheapest places I've been to have never given me three of the same fish in a nigiri set. The quality of the fish was fine, nothing terrible or great. If I could go back to yesterday when I was asked if I wanted to get pizza or sushi, I would've said pizza. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant in the Barlow for food. I've been going here for years and anything I've ever ordered has been delicious. Highly recommend the salmon tartare tacos as an appetizer and red dragon roll & double down roll for sushi rolls. I also enjoy their poke bowls and the wagyu short ribs. I am fortunate enough to have eaten wonderful sushi in New York, Tokyo, San Francisco, and right here in Sonoma County. In my experience, exceptional sushi is the result of the combination of many things, some of which are simple and some of which require an impressive depth of experience and technique. Sushi Kosho demonstrates what happens when you get all of those things stunningly right. I've dined indoors for lunch and dinner, and the room is bright and comfortable. The space is visually interesting, and pleasant without being predictable or overly "themed." The service was uniformly pleasant, professional, and personal. I and my dining companions felt warmly welcomed and cared for throughout our meals. The grilled whole squid is excellent and could make a satisfying lunch on its own or alongside the equally delicious miso soup, seaweed salad, or both. But all three are wonderful preludes to what makes Sushi Kosho truly special: the nigiri sushi, sashimi, and chirashi. Fish as fresh as you can get, sliced perfectly. Some of the best sushi rice and seaweed wraps I've eaten anywhere. And the other little things, like the gentle smoke of the perch or the shiso accompanying the ocean trout. And the best unagi my wife and I ever remember having anywhere. Yes, there are other dishes on the menu. I have no doubt they are wonderful as well. There is also a full bar and Sapporo on draft. But I would gently point out the first word in the establishment's name. I would also argue that Sushi Kosho may just be Sonoma County's last and best word (or, strictly speaking, two words) for truly superlative sushi. read more

Honestly just posting this so I remember what to order next time. We came in around 3 pm for a late-lunch/early dinner (and I loved this because we had almost the whole place to ourselves) all of our food was incredible, we didn't feel rushed, and we got to enjoy time with our party rather than just fueling up and leaving. We spent almost over an hour and a half here and ordered two appetizers, some hot sake, and five rolls for our party of three. Our server was incredibly accommodating, and kind, especially toward our requests regarding baby. We started with the Japanese fried chicken (which the hostess raved people said was the best they'd ever had, but we just thought it was ok compared to Ramen Gaijin's) and the sashimi sampler (the salmon was to DIE FOR) but it was all super fresh and clean tasting, no fishiness at all. Then we enjoyed a vegetable tempura roll, soft shell crab roll, a roll with Shisho leaf and SO MUCH fresh fish, and notably the salmon citrus roll and dragon roll. I kid you not, the salmon was the best I've ever had! And I loved the true dragon roll . Honestly, such a great value for how much fish you get in each roll. We loved everything! Next time I'm ordering some pickles to start, the citrus salmon roll, the yellowtail belly and uni, the dragon roll and maybe something creamy with avocado and crab... for myself. This is in super cool and trendy Barlow which was a real change from laid back Bodega Bay. Barlow is so cool and wonderful. And Sushi kosho serves modern takes on sushi. The service was good and we got a nice inside table that was right next to the outdoor spot. So a good breeze yet nice and sheltered. The decor is urban and it fit the cuisine. We loved the rolls. I just went today with my dog. We sat outside by the fire. The service was very, very kind and efficient. They even provided a bowl of water for my puppy. I didn't have any luck finding good sushi place in Sonoma County since I moved here but today I got my sushi fixed!! I ordered the seaweed salad. It was just a little bit fishy but still good next time I think I'll order it again but with more dressing. The pork belly was amazing although the portion was little small, but the pork belly still was very tasty. It was fatty and I could taste the ! The kimchi is not what I am used to. I think they did something by adding seasonings or washed it because traditional kimchi is really strong. I liked it anyways because I think traditional kimchi might be too strong for some people. I ordered the nigiri set and it was very very delicious. It had most of the fish that I liked. I wanted to order some on the side like Unagi and Uni , but the sushi filled me up and I ended up not being able to. I think next time I'll just order à la carte:) My fiancé ordered the shrimp tempura roll. He wasn't really hungry so I think it was enough to fill him, but it was five big pieces. The mayo sauce on top is really good. By the way, their miso soup is freaking amazing !! You have one opportunity to make a great first impression and this wasn't quite what we were expecting. In an industry of service where you have a significant impact on a customer experience and how our social media platforms allows one to share it to the world, you would think as a business owner, all feedback is welcomed to address concerns. PROS: The items we ordered were presented well and of what we ate, absolutely delicious. CONS: 1/2 way through our meal our server recognized that 1 out of 2 missing orders was not placed. 1 order arrived at the tail end of our meal and the other item never made it to the table. What was insulting is the comment the server made in an upbeat tone: "Looks like we need a container to go" uh yeah, because it arrived too late and we didnt touch it. No empathy whatsoever. Just a rushed no eye contact "it's been busy" The offer of taking 50% off an item we did not sample was a poor attempt at service recovery. We were also charged for an entree that we never received. Having to point that out shows how unapologetic and inattentive our server was. The worst of all is that we noted when we made our reservation that we were celebrating a Birthday which didn't matter at all because it wasn't important for the staff to read any notes. There was no acknowledgment of a Birthday celebration. This restaurant needs serious hospitality training, especially when it comes to owning mistakes.
