Went to lunch and enjoyed an excellent combo with very friendly and attentive staff. We were close to their closing time and they were gracious to not rush us. Minutes before closing a man came in and while disappointed they were closing he was offered the opportunity to order and take it to go. I thought that very kind. I went today with my daughter, and we loved everything that was ordered. We started with the spicy edamame, soft shell crab, and the shrimp tempura. Everything from the kitchen came out hot and nicely presented. We sat at the sushi bar, so we were able to see the beautiful presentation of all of their dishes. We also ordered the freshest Ebi, the large fresh scallop (cut into sashimi,) and the fresh uni. When I tell y'all, EVERYTHING was so delicious and FRESH! It made my toes curl lol. I was surprised how much I liked this place. When I saw the menu I was not all that thrilled. I don't really eat rolls much. I like the taste of the fish. I also want it to be really fresh and creative. I also don't care how much it costs generally. So AYCE sushi is pretty much the worst to me. I know others prefer that, and it's fine. But it's not for me. My favorite sushi meals have been omakase. I normally like to start with sashimi, but I don't like the sashimi samplers because they're the same generic tuna, salmon, and yellowtail, which are fine. They're just not that interesting. But I also don't want 7-8 pieces of the same fish, which are the normal order size for sashimi. I explained what I wanted to the sushi chef here and he delivered. Started with salmon sampler, which had 3 pieces each of 3 kinds of salmon sashimi. All fresh and delicious. Then had the WhiteFish sampler, again with 3 pieces of 3 kinds of sashimi. Again really great. I then chose 3 kinds of nigiri sushi: blue fin tuna, Santa Barbara uni, and Japanese scallop. All were prepared creatively too. That was plenty for me. But he then comped me toro sashimi which was a great way to finish. So happy! So good. read more

I was surprised by the quality of the fish. It was REALLY good. A bit pricier but well worth it. I had the poke origin bowl - done very well. i work within this business complex & sushi Ryokan never disappoints when it comes to their quick and deliciously prepared lunch specials. I usually get the 3 hand rolls set: salmon skin, tuna and yellow tail. Other times I like to switch things up and opt in for their cut rolls instead. I can most certainly taste the freshness of the fish, and the portions are HUGE, that's not including a generous side of miso soup and house salad. you can really get a bang for your buck with this menu. I get it. I understand why people think this place is amazing. If you've never had real sushi i.e. at a really great authentic Japanese restaurant, you'd think this place was really good. It's not. It's ok. I was surprised walking in to see all the glitchy art that's typically not associated with a sushi restaurant. Not that this would turn me away from trying a place or create a prejudice. It was just a little surprising. I came on a date and tried the sashimi plate, a roll, and a couple a-la-cart. It's all just ok. The quality of the fish wasn't the best. The technique isn't the best. The quality of the fish was the most noticeable thing. Really wasn't the best fish. But the service was super friendly as were the other customers there. read more

This is a solid sushi spot with lots of rolls to choose from. We ordered takeout and all the rolls were labeled with their intended sauces in each container, which was great. My favorite roll was the aburi salmon. I think I'll get 2 next time! I think the real crab brings a great clean flavor, plus there's something special in the seasoning that adds a really nice aroma (maybe it's the yuzu or ponzu, plus the light torching). We got it without rice; I love that they have the option to remove rice from their rolls. San Yume was good too. I also liked the Super Mario, which doesn't have any rice by default. The only roll I could have done without was the Baked Salmon, as there was too much mayo flavor for my personal preference. They do have some non-sushi items like beef and chicken teriyaki and chicken tonkatsu, perfect for my dad who likes Japanese flavors but not raw fish. We didn't get to try them this time but we will be ordering from Sushi Ryokan next time he comes over! read more

This place is comfortable and the sushi is very good. A lunch order available until 2PM is three cut or hand rolled sushi from a list of more than a dozen. It includes miso and salad for $18 or $20. If you check-in with Yelp there's a free appetizer. The third choice is a spicy pepper and it's good too. The service is good. read more

Furikake fries: thinly cut potato's with furikake seasoning paired with a sweet mustard dipping sauce. I would have enjoyed more Furikake on the fries, but that's just me. This place has real wasabi if you ask for it instead of the watered down stuff you usually get. It's actually pretty good! Overall great food and great service. I'd come back for sure!

A couple practical notes: parking is easy overall, but the lot is shared with the motel, so just be mindful where you park and try to stay closer toward the restaurant side of the lot. Sushi Ryokan is something I cannot find in many Japanese restaurants. They buy fish by themself every morning. Their hand picked fresh fish come from one of the best market in downtown LA. Yamamoto-san, will explain all about fish for you since he has been in the japanese restaurant for more than ten years. LIVE Scallop is my favorite, followed by blue fin tuna. Fantastic location and the view from my room was marvelous it was of the lake and up Lake Shore Drive. The work out room was the best I have ever seen it had many machines was clean with hardwood floors and separate areas for differ kind of workout. Well planned out . The lobby and restaurants are legendary. As a diamond member I had a good room on 10th floor with access to nice executive lounge. Regular rooms are small and dated but classy. I had the worst lunch here with a friend. From the moment we walked in no one greeted us. When we sat down there was a lamp eye level with us sitting accross the way from each other we had to ask them to unscrew the light buld so we could see each other. We were neglected and the plates of sashimi we ordered all tasted like it had the same sauce on it and fried garnish. The fish is always fresh. The service is always swift. Best sushi restaurants in the area. The salmon collar and yellowtail collar are a must when you visit this place. They serve them nice and hot and full of flavor. It's nice that they are constantly checking in on you and making sure you're satisfied. My favorite roll is the Sammy roll with sauce on the side. I work at our seal beach office twice a week and Sushi Ryokan is a favorite of ours for lunch. They have so many good deals for lunch it's hard to pick which one is my favorite. You can get soup, salad, tempura, and a 4 piece roll for $13.00 They also have great teriyaki bowls for about the same price. I love shinkansen rolls. read more

Their happy hour menu is SO good and somehow has pretty much all of my favorites on it, which makes it way too easy to keep coming back. One thing I order every single time is the baked green mussels, and I have to say... they are FIRE. So flavorful, baked perfectly, and honestly one of those things I'm not willing to share lol. I've tried different items each time I've come, and I always leave satisfied. What really adds to the experience though is the service. The workers are always welcoming and attentive. Good sushi, a happy hour that actually has things you WANT to order, great service, and I leave happy every time. Definitely one of my Long Beach favorites!

For a smaller restaurant will full service and takeout, the staff checked in for refills and to make sure we had everything, but was otherwise doing other tasks. They were easily available to flag down for anything we needed. With large portions came take home boxes. Finishing our food the next day was still very fresh and kept well. This place is a great option for quality food and service and place well suited for being able to hold a conversation, even as a small group.

The broth was almost so watery that it had a tap water taste. Extremely strange. The noodles are good along with the portion size, but it's hard to get through a dish that's dependent on the broth for flavor. The brisket itself wasn't brisket I was expecting. It was more along the lines of shredded beef and the protein portion wasn't large for my protein lovers out there. The staff is quick to have you seated, but don't expect them to check on you for water refills or a check. You'll have to do flag them down if you want that.

The edamame was good. Even when it was packaged in a container, the steam didn't overcook it. I really enjoyed the salmon lovers roll. Salmon is my favorite which is why I got that. They out just enough salmon inside the roll where you can actually taste it. My husband and I enjoyed the Philly crunch roll. I enjoy food with texture, so the tempura flakes on top gave it nice texture in contrast to the soft texture you get from the salmon and cream cheese bite you get from the inside. My husband ended up not eating the miso salmon, so I ate it. I ate half in a separate plate and added the miso sauce (since it came in a separate container). I was good. The salmon could use a little seasoning. The miso taste is very subtle, but was good. I know it's meant to be a healthy dish. The vegetables were steamed, so again it didn't have much flavor. But overall it was a good dish. Because we ordered thru a third party, they packed the food really well. And I like how they have the utensils, chopsticks, napkins already pre-packaged so it's easy to include in to-go orders.

There was one time that i ordered a salmon bowl for my coworker whos pescatarian, but we accidentally received a chicken bowl instead. When i called the restaurant, they acknowledged their mistake and not only allowed us to keep the chicken bowl, but we got a full refund and they made us the salmon bowl on the house! I just wish the portions were bigger :/

We ordered the poké tacos to start and they were delicious 10/10. We also shared the tiger roll (i think) and the Mr Roll and the Mr roll was definitely our favorite. Everything here was so great & the fish tasted fresh. If you come in a party of 1-2, I would recommend sitting at the bar because the chefs working are so nice & charismatic. They even celebrated a coworkers birthday that night & it was so sweet they let us all be a part of it. Definitely coming back very soon!!!

However I was still hungry after so, the special wasn't as filling as I'd expected. I did order their Las Vegas roll too and that was very tasty. Service could have been better. One thing about me is I take a simple acknowledgment seriously. So when the waitress placed a menu with me while simultaneously talking to another patron as the patron was leaving and didn't even acknowledge me I take as a lack of simple courtesy. So not off to a good start. Then, after I ordered and my special was given to me, the waitress didn't check on me for 15 to 20 minutes. My empty salad bowl and soup bowl sat on my table, water was empty needing to be refilled, I wanted to order another roll but at that point was under a time crunch. It was a frustrating situation. My waitress did apologize and seemed sincere. Apparently there was a problem with the shipping the restaurant received that day and she was on the phone with their supplier which pulled her away. She offered a soda or dessert on the house but because of my time crunch I didn't have time for that and the extra roll. Again perhaps it was an off day I came. The space was good. Clean and comfortable seating.
