We are closing out our tab right now, we got here at 8 PM And got sat down pretty quickly. No we put a order in pretty much around 8 PM but I want to say 8:05 and it was a very small order two sushi rolls. We also got seaweed salad and three miso soup as appetizers which came out quickly. The food took forever to come out, it wasn't until 9 PM that it came out and that was just for two rolls. The rolls were also expensive about $30 apiece and when we ask for wasabi they gave us a very small amount so we had to ask again. Majorly Overpriced for what you get. Food was good but not worth the price. It's like they try to be a High end fine dining restaurant without the quality, ambiance and service. Only thing high end fine dining abt this place is the price. Unless you order their $$$ item off the menu the other items off their menu fish wasn't as fresh. But their Market Price item menu fish was fresh and decent however the price yikes. I've been to high end sushi restaurants with the same quality and paid way less. Like what? Bewared: The food here is very expensive!!! The roll we ordered was not bad, but is not worth the price. ($30? Really?) The chirashi was huge with lots of fresh sashimi on top. However, despite the price ($77) there was no uni/scallop/sweet shrimp/salmon roe. It would be better if the sashimi was more diverse. Also the miso soup that came with the chirashi was way too salty! (My husband still finished it for me because he didn't want to waste food) And the water here had a weird taste. Sushigo is my new go-to for a low key fancy dinner spot. The place is small and quiet, with only enough tables for about 40 people max. There are plenty of specialty rolls to choose from and I trust that they are all as beautifully presented as the 3 rolls I ordered. They come with a hefty price tag though so be prepared, but it's definitely worth it. The rolls are pretty big too so you get your money's worth in 8 pieces. My only complaint would be that the service was subpar. There was a "wait to be seated" sign by the entrance and it took about 15 minutes for someone to notice me standing there--mind you I said it's a small restaurant so it can't have been that hard to spot me At any rate, I will be back to try more of Chef Joe's specialty rolls. read more

I've been to many Japanese restaurants in the world and have been told by many servers that I'm a sushi snob. I had the opportunity to eat at Sushigo. I had my doubts before even walking in because of the menu prices. This is the reason I gave it 2 stars. I mean honestly, who would pay $199 for 8 pieces of sushi (of the chefs choice) plus soup and salad when you can go to a Japanese restaurant ANYWHERE else in the country and get the same thing for $30-50? My party went out on a limb and tried it anyway. These were the appetizers ordered-edamame, chicken gyoza, and oshinko. With such high prices, I was hoping that the oshinko would be every Japanese pickled vegetable there is. I was sadly disappointed when all that arrive was just daikon. However, the chicken gyoza were delicious-perfectly grilled and not greasy at all. Yet another disappointment was when the edamame showed up after we received our main entrees (ramen- which was more like a Korean soup and tempura udon-shrimp were VERY small and the broth was overly salty). What was good on the menu were some of the cheaper sushi rolls like the salmon California roll (California roll with salmon instead of crab) and the salmon bagel roll (salmon, avocado, and scallions). Extremely fresh fish even though the roles could have been made tighter. With two other rolls (tuna avocado), hot tea and dessert, the bill came to $111.72! Bottom line, if you just like to throw your money away, go to Sushigo. Better yet, try any other Japanese establishment. read more

Very strange experience. Walked in and it was a silent room. First time here and I couldn't understand why all the items on the menu were $31+. I finally made an order and my rolls fell apart. Looking at the food the chef just made for me felt insulting. Anyway, I was very hungry so I ate paid and left. Didn't even bother to say thank you since it felt like they didn't want me there. Wow... what can one say about Sushigo and Chef Sung Gook Joe? I cannot give him six stars due to the limits of Yelp. So I have to give him five. You don't really expect to see a place like this in a strip mall. It looks like any small suburban sushi place, and even the inside is not impressive. But if you sit down at the sushi bar -- which you absolutely must -- everything begins to become clear. First, let's get down to brass tax -- this is a destination, extremely expensive, special occasion sushi place serving the kinds of things you would get at Nobu or Masa in NYC. The quality cuts and variety of fish here far exceed what you are going to find in the entire PBC/Broward area (with the possible exception of Marumi Sushi in Plantation and Saiko-I also in Boca). So you should expect to pay two or three times as much as you do at your "local" joint, let's get that sticker shock out of the way. Your weekly local joint cannot compare to this because if they tried to sell fish like this at the prices you pay regularly they would go bankrupt. He flies fish in from Japan and keeps it frozen in his own blast freezer just like they have at Tsukiji but in miniature. Even the wasabi here is the real deal, it's the rhizome which is imported from Japan and grated fresh with shark skin, not green-colored white horseradish cut with mustard. No expense is spared at this place at all. Chef Joe is a perfectionist. He spent 5 years at Nobu in Miami and has been a sushi chef for over 30 years and grew up in the business and was apprenticing in his grandfather's restaurant in Korea since age 7. Yes, you can get all kinds of fancy rolls on the menu but really what you want is for him to slice you up really nice sashimi and if you have the budget, do an omakase tasting, which is $350.00 per person. Or at least tell him what you like, and he can suggest what you should have if you get things a la carte. The entire experience is interactive, this is a guy you want to talk to. And he loves to talk to people. Most importantly, he loves to talk about his experience with becoming a chef and how Sushi and many other Japanese dishes actually originate from Korea, his native homeland. He's super proud of being Korean and preparing Korean-influenced Japanese food of his own design. So if you like spicy and bold flavors, something you don't typically get in traditional Edo-mai/Osaka/Tokyo-style sushi, just tell him so. I cannot possibly say enough nice things about this place other than to say this is literally the best sushi restaurant for probably 50 miles in any direction. Maybe even including Miami. I don't know if I have the budget to eat here more than a few times a year, but it's definitely worth it. read more

First of all the food is great. I would say that the $$ on the description is not very accurate. There's plenty of other reviews that echo that sentiment. Don't expect to get out of there unless you purposefully try to do it cheap...maybe with a lunch special and that's it. Expect $$$ - $$$$. Stopped in for lunch during the week along with about a half dozen or so other people in the restaurant. Sat promptly and service was quick but a bit awkward with the server. We ordered two lunch specials and one appetizer. The one appetizer was off the daily specials menu, which has no prices. No problem...I've experienced that before at other places. Sushi Simon in Boynton Beach has that too. So we ordered the Hamachi Belly Jalapeno to start...and it was incredible! Six pieces of fish with jalapeno a ponzu sauce and garnished with cilantro. Delicious. The lunch specials we ordered came out shortly after we finished our appetizer, and were also delicious and well executed. We finished up and got the bill and when I looked at the price of the appetizer it was $43.98. I just had to laugh that's how shocked I was. I'm glad they discounted the $0.02 or else it would just be way to expensive! Maybe they have to make up for the free Miso Soup you get with a check-in? Anyway...I assumed (and we know what that does) that like Sushi Simon it would be in the $20 - $26 dollar range. Well I guess not! So I would suggest asking for the prices if you really want to know what you're going to be charged before hand. We walked in here wanting an OMAKASE type of dinner. We sat down at the sushi bar and was immediately asked by the owner to move over to a table. He was very rude. We then questioned the waitresses about the prices of the sushi . I live in Nyc I go to OMAKASE places every week and never before was I blown away with them telling me one piece of sushi was 36 DOLLARS!!!!! Joe the owner is behind the sushi bar with his son making the dishes. Excellent quality of seafood, diverse and unique variety of rolls and a-la-carte sushi and sashimi items. You will notice that Sushigo is pricey but worth it! I ordered from the house rolls section which range from $6-$10. I also ordered one order of Scallop (Hokkaido) from the a-la-carte section (comes with gold flakes on top) for the market price of $19.99. I was shocked when I got the bill. As I said, it was worth it. The waitress brought us complimentary edamame and vanilla mochi ice cream. For yelpers, by checking in, you get either a small hot saki or edamane. read more

Update 2015: Came in to grab takeout sushi and while waiting by the bar a giant cockroach climes out from between the sushi bar countertop and the glass of the bar. I notified a waitress who just killed it and went back to work. Owner and sushi chef was not even notified. If one cockroach is found then thousands are around. Overpriced food, terrible service. I was afraid to complain as the sign behind the bar said that if you complain you pay double. I was already paying $30 for a mediocre roll, which came 30 mins before my husband's order (a $120 omakase). It was just awkwardly sitting there on the table while we pretended to ignore it and enjoy his birthday dinner. Half way through this wait, we were told that the omakase order takes a long time, which is fine but I think it is one of the basic rules of any self-respecting restaurant to bring entrees out together. Chef Joe is the undisputed king of sushi in South Florida. Thankfully we have him in Boca Raton!

Decided to try take out because the marketing has been excellent. First time the rice was not seasoned properly, Ramen was only noodles and two soggy looking shrimps. Second time ordered a roll with eel which was drenched in sugary sauce and almost inedible. Presentation is also something to improve. Everything is packaged in the cheapest styrofoam containers. Ramen was wrapped in seranwrap because the lid is so flimsy. Maybe this place stood out in the past just because Boca didn't have good sushi. However, they have not evolved with the times. There are more newcomers with imported excellent fish from Japan, creative options and thought out presentation. read more

Owner didn't acknowledge us at all despite him being pretty nice to us a few weeks ago. We witnessed a couple employees getting yelled at in front of customers which kinda made the experience uncomfortable. Food wasn't as good as the last time we went. Both the guy and the girl server were insanely nice and fast whenever we needed anything but overall not sure if I'll be back soon. So people pay high prices because Joe creates magic masterpieces. Tonite Joe was not working. Instead, his son was there in his stead, along with a trainee. Do they warrant the exorbitant prices? In a word, "NO." Nothing special, mediocre. Huge disappointment. One person in our party complained that her new style salmon was salty. They did nothing to appease the customer. The place is a little hole in the wall literally doesn't fit more then 20 people. Looks old and outdated for what you pay. Service is nice, food is ok, but I will not go again as the price you pay is not worth what you get. I would rate the food above average but it is a long shot from being fine dining. I ordered the Toro with fois gras and was disappointed with 2 chewy pieces that I couldn't take. Food here is delicious and beautifully presented! It's a small cozy restaurant located across the street from Mizner. There's no hostess but I waited to be seated by a waitress. The only reason I rated 4 starts and not 5 is because place is very expensive. I was trying to be mentally prepared for the prices but I still couldn't believe how pricey this restaurant is! Individual sashimi pieces range from $3.99 to $19.99. Of course everything that looked unique and delicious that I wanted to try was very expensive. We ended up ordering the Robert special $99 because I wanted to try all the fish bellies without paying $20 per piece of sashimi. I give it a 10/10 in both flavor and presentation. It was extremely fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will figure out how to afford to eat it again. Also really enjoyed the organic butter crab (10/10). So much flavor and I wish there was more pieces!!! We ordered Monique's Japanese octopus roll (7/10), which was good, but would have tasted better without all the sweet Chile sauce that was drizzled on top of it. It is hard to earn a 3 star rating when your food is excellent. Sushigo managed to do it. Food: Simply put it is the highest quality fish in Boca. The sushi and sashimi is excellent. The rolls are over sauced for my taste but that is a matter of preference. Service: It is not good! Chef Joe is great at preparing Sushi. He is not a people person. During any given meal you will see Joe berate members of his staff for myriad reasons. I am not talking about a simple correction here. These are John McEnroe at the US open type meltdowns. Not an ideal atmosphere to enjoy your meal. Beyond Joe the staff is very nice but completely untrained. Ambiance: There is a difference between simple traditional sushi restaurant decor and a cheap no atmosphere environment. Sushigo has the latter. Price: I don't often comment on price but it is important here. It is emblematic of the problems that plague sushigo. There are no high end sushi restaurants in the area. Chef joe decided to create one on the food level but not with service or in any other way. Then Chef Joe priced his food at higher levels than some of the best Sushi restaurants in the world. It is offensive. The pricing is not tethered to any cost. It is simply a matter of gouging customers that do not have another place to go. Summary: Sushigo is a terrible restaurant that has amazingly good sushi. It sounds crazy but on every level other than the food the restaurant is a nightmare. Overpriced, questionable quality and rude less than competent service. To start, the decor is cheap and uninviting. The waiter took our order with enthusiasm that equaled your worst DMV experience. He returned with the soup but not the salad. 25 minutes later he returned with a plate that looked like they bought it used from a diner with half of what we ordered. When we asked about the other items, he just stood dumbfounded then walked in the back. Another waitress came out and asked what we'd ordered. When it became obvious it hadn't been made we told them we didn't have time for them. Rather than offer to see if they could make it right way she just shrugged and started to walk away. I decided this was a good time to ask for utensils so we could eat. She growled at the other server to get utensils he came back with some but not all that we needed. It took 5 minutes to bring chopsticks and soy sauce bowls....in a sushi bar? Not one person apologized for the mix up. The owner/ sushi chef scowled at us like we were an inconvenience. We threw out the the tuna roll, the shrimp tempura did not seem to be japanese panko. The salmon sushi was edible I think. It had amazing reviews. So that why Im leaving this one.
