I love a sandwich for lunch, been quite thorough with my exploration if I may say so myself, and the Sutter St Special is my single favorite menu item in the whole FiDi/Union Square area. Never dissapoints! All the ingredients are fresh and tasty- super high quality considering what else is available for the same price. The whole little deli is cute, great options (surprisingly high end- gelato in a freezer and european sweets) for other snacks too. I wish so much that my office building had a similar deli. My husband and I got lost trying to find this place. Should we have looked for the address instead of following Google maps? Yes, but it was too cold to think! This small café/deli/market is inside a medical building. We wanted something quick and warm, so I ordered the sausage, egg, cheese on a english muffin. My husband ordered a breakfast burrito. We came here for breakfast based on the stellar reviews. It was fine but nothing to write home about. The impressive thing is that they put together whole hot breakfasts in such a tiny space. We sat at one of three tiny tables in the restaurant. We ordered scrambled eggs with hash browns and bacon. Eggs were done right, bacon was thick and well done but not burned. Hash browns, however, were not individual shreds but more like a giant, flat tater tot. We also got a bear claw and a croissant. The bear claw was disappointing--softish dough containing a little blob almond filling--but the croissant was fresh, flaky, and quite good. My husband's coffee and my decaf cappuccino were both excellent, and service was friendly. Overall this place is better for the grab and go customer than for a sit-down meal. read more

I recently started working at the Color Factory just up the hill from this place and I always forget to bring lunch/dinner, and this place has been awesome and convenient because I can order ahead of time with yelp and pick it up during my ten minute break to have it ready for my thirty minute break. I love that it's hidden in a building and is small and cozy. It's got a nice ambiance that most cafes don't have. I feel welcomed and comfortable here unlike other cafes where you feel anxious by the busyness of other patrons and the hipster-ness of the decor. The chai lattes are so good and always at that temperature where you can finally sip a hot drink right when you get it. (I mean c'mon, this is just great attention to detail!) $3 for a 12 oz and a couple cents more for 16oz I get the vegan sandwich and it's tasty, the bread is also at the sweet toasted spot that I like. I also recently noticed they sell breakfast all day and the hashbrowns are $1.15 each, so I tried some of them, too. 10/10 Honestly, I come here each time and order food thinking I'm going to spend a bunch of money on very little food and am surprised each time how cheap it actually is. I read the reviews and my experience was very disappointing. My husband and I ordered the Sutter breakfast combo. Our eggs were cold, his bacon was burnt to a crisp and they gave me the wrong sausage. I brought this to the attention of the waitress. She informed me that she spoke to the chef about my sausage and the correct one would be out shortly. I waited over 20 minutes at which time I asked for the check. So glad I found this little shop. I was in dire need of some sustenance before my plane ride and had no time to wait in line as is the norm in SF. I busted out my trusty Yelp app and found this adorable spot. It's hidden inside this giant building with a little sign that says "deli" pointing to it. When I walked in, I almost turned around thinking "ewwww another one of those pre-packaged sandwich places." This is not one of those. Their Sutter Special is proscuitto, fresh cheese, aged balsamic and your choice of baguette or pretzel bread. I chose the pretzel because I'm a sucker for pretzel bread and he made the sandwich right in front of me. No cellophane wrapped nastiness here. They've got a nice selection of bars, drinks, unique chips (spicy pickle!) and snacks. A great pit stop if you're in a hurry but don't want a typical salmonella sandwich. read more
