After having past this little cafe for so many years while visiting my dentist in this building, I finally decided to get something to eat here yesterday before going to my dental appointment. I got myself a Diet Coke and a Cheese and Cherry Croissant for a quick snack, The lady at the counter was very friendly and asked me if I wanted my croissant to be heated. I noticed a lot of cute little Asian tea cups and kettles on some shelves. I really don't know if they were for decorations or for sale; I was too busy eating to ask. The café was very cramped, but cozy. I plan to come back here and to order one of their sandwiches the next time I see my dentist. This place is a cute gem in the busy Union square area. The food options are good and portions are generous, definitely don't go with half of sandwich though, get the full. Great that this place is near the Marriott, open early and has a variety of offerings. They have everything from $5 boba to different coffees, sandwiches and breakfast items. They even have gelato! I like the Japanese snacks on the wall like haribo candies. Also a great place to find beautiful Japanese teapots and fun coffee mugs as gifts. Rather than get the sandwiches here I'd rather get the dimsum for breakfast as it's a better value. The Sutter St wrap didn't have much bacon. Nice that it's inside the pretty building and they did an amazing job in maximizing the tiny space. They have the same convection oven as Starbucks so your sandwiches are piping hot and crunchy. First off, I just wanted to say how much I loved and missed the vibe in this tiny cafe. I haven't been to a medical/office building cafe for some time, and there's just something special about them. Maybe it's the lack of natural light or that you have to go down a small hallway to get to this place that makes it seem more special. The huge menu and plenty of pantry - and even some porcelain drinkware - options adds to the vibe in here. But let's talk about the food. What's nice is this is a cafe offering coffee & teas, smoothies, pastries, all day breakfast items, sandwiches and salads. I just came to grab lunch, but if I worked in the building, yeah they would know me by name. And they did with a regular! As I was waiting, one of 5 while I was there, a regular came in and was greeted warmly. A nice sign. For food I went with the Sutter St. Combo. Not to be confused with the Sutter St. Special, Sutter St. AM Special, or Sutter St. Super Combo. I'm a sucker for any combo that offers turkey, ham, AND roast beef, plus Italian provolone, Swiss cheese, arugula, lettuce, tomato, chipotle and avocado on Dutch crunch. Now they don't pile the meat on to this thing. If so, it would have been 5 stars hands down. But even with the one or two slices per meat, it was very much a filling sandwich, and the chipotle gave it some nice heat, tempered by the avocado. Before finishing your order, check out their chip, drink, and Fiorello's Artisan Sorbet selection. I did grab a Healthade Kombucha, but they had other beverage options as well, and had I not been LYFTing back to Oakland, I would have grabbed one of those sorbets. Oh my God this is the greatest hidden gem of the city. The small deli is tucked inside the first floor of a financial building, it reminds me of NYC! I have had the privilege of eating at this divine little cafe place run by Joe and Carmen - they are the most exquisite, friendly, amazing duo there, and their food is beyond words! I go to the doctor there yearly (wish they lived closer to me!) and honestly I would eat there every day if I could. They are pro's when it comes to preparing food - Gourmet food, incredibly deliciously, prepared meals. What was and is most touching about these lovely people is that they both remembered me a few years since my last visit there, and it was like seeing family again! I consider Joe and Carmen to be friends now. They make everyone's day there. They have a lot of faithful and wonderful clients who always go there. I was starving and craving a bagel and lox. After Yelping for places near work, I found Sutter Street Cafe. It's actually located in the same building as my eye doctor and dentist. Just walk into the building and make a right before the elevators. Then you'll see Sutter Street Cafe on your left. On Tuesday, September 29th around 10:15am, I grabbed take out for breakfast. *Smoked salmon bagel ($7.50): with Gina Marie cream cheese, tomato, onion, capers on an everything bagel When I ordered my bagel, the guy asked me if I wanted coffee and hash browns. I said no cuz all I really wanted was the bagel. But the girl that rung me told me they have a complimentary 12oz cup of organic coffee and hash browns with orders over $5.50 between 7am and 11am. So if you ordered something over $5.50 in that time window, grab your free coffee and hash browns. Once I realized they were free, I did! For the price, the bagel had a good amount of smoked salmon. They also toasted it nicely and put a lot of cream cheese in it. The capers cut into the smoked salmon well and the tomatoes gave it a good freshness. I have to confess that I only come here whenever I have an appointment with my doctor in the building and only if I happen to be in need of a quick bite before getting back to the office. I know that isn't a particularly compelling reason, but I think it says something that I'm willing to stick around 450 Sutter to get a sandwich when I should be acting more like a bat out of hell after seeing my doctor. It's a relatively modest operation although there are quite a few people who work in this tight space at any given time. It appears to operate as a combination deli and convenience store for those who know it's there - patients, medical office staff, parking lot attendants, lost tourists. I usually come for the $7.99 Vegan Sandwich, which is well put together with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and artichoke hearts on wheat (photo: http://bit.ly/1meF6fM). I've never asked them what spread they use on the sandwich (i'm guessing a soy-based mayo substitute) but I like it a lot. When I feel a bit more indulgent, I go for their same-priced BLT since they use Applewood Smoked Bacon (photo: http://bit.ly/1QANQKu). These are not culinary creations of the highest order, but they do hit the spot when I need something fast. There are a couple of tables and a small counter if you want to eat in, but it crowds quickly so you may want to reconsider as several regular customers appear to hang out for long periods in here. Secret cheap eats spot in Union Square! I used to go to 450 Sutter all the time for dermatologist appointments years ago and never noticed this cafe. I found it one day while searching on Yelp. I ordered a half smoked salmon sandwich for under $5. While I was waiting for my order I admired the variety of snacks they offered for purchase. After a few minutes it was done and I brought it back to the office. Sandwiches aren't like Little Luccas big but my half totally filled me up. It had a fresh layer of delicious smoked salmon, light spread of cream cheese, tomato and onions on a baguette. I'll definitely need to try their all day breakfast sometime and salad. The ladies who work here are very nice, as is the owner, who is often making sandwiches. Secret: Order ahead. Another secret: They have bubble tea. So skip the line at Boba Guys nearby and come here. Quick breakfast before heading out of San Francisco. It's located in the Sutter Building and not noticeable from the streets. Kids got a waffle and some bacon. Waffle was thick. Well Joe, Leo and Carmen, I will so miss you all! I have had the privilege of eating there; they offer tons of really good quality food, snacks, drinks, and a variety of options of both breakfast and lunch. What's so funny is that they work within a huge medical facility on Sutter street, and are tiny - but what they offer is larger than the building itself; they are memorable. Because of their integrity and kindness. One never thinks too much of a cafe having this incredible food - however Joe and Leo are both exquisitely refined within the meals they prepare for their customers. I will never forget how engaging Joe was the first time I met him and Carmen. They really care so much about the person. I arrived on a knee scooter and Carmen and Joe came running my way as I fell off the knee scooter (nothing at all dramatic) but they both exhibited care, concern and willingness to do everything they could to ensure that I was both safe and well! The food.... well, is cordon bleu style! I will miss seeing you all there. Seriously - Leo, thank you for the GREAT sandwich you made me this past week as I saw my surgeon for the last time. How surprisingly, delightfully, unassumingly delicious. Honestly, that's how I'd describe this small hole-in-the-wall shop too, hidden in the 450 Sutter Garage. So no excuses for anyone who says they can't find parking around here ;) Everyone who works here is also so incredibly nice, and they also stock a pretty impressive selection of chips.
