Overhyped. I am new to the Bay Area and don't know many people here so everything I try is based on word of mouth and tiktok recommendations. I hate to leave too bad a review but I honestly have no idea what people are talking bout with sweet maple. The food was so bad. Bland. Plain. Boring and not worth it. I had the millionaire bacon which was good but it was pretty cold and also over priced in my opinion and being from the south I guess I just feel like it isn't that hard to candy bacon. Then I had the Frisco scramble and it was so bland. Again I think people in the bay think cheese is seasoning. ITS NOT! The cheese was just thrown on there and it was melted but it was cold like it had been sitting which I didn't get because my food did come super fast. You can see the pic and see it didn't look very appealing. It was supposed to have mango chicken but I tasted no mango on the chicken, in fact I hardly tasted chicken, I tasted nothing but cold cheese. The highlight of my meal was the multicolored potato's, those were so good. And the bread. I went on a weekday but it was still very packed and very loud in there. I sat at the bar, it was fine. Hostess and servers were also really nice. We were seated at the bar, and the bar had a good amount of counter space to eat on. Food was also delicious! I've been here several times for breakfast and it's always good, until today. I came in a bit later this time and ordered the Hass salad, which was supposed to come with "Turkey breast". But when the salad arrived, the bed of greens were actually the chopped bitter ends of romaine and the tiny bits of deli turkey slices! Check out the image and see for yourself. Sweet Maple gave us our best brunch on our most recent trip to SF. We were staying in Japantown and one day, in need of sustenance, I looked at list of brunch spots and realized Sweet Maple was only a few blocks from our hotel. It was closing in half an hour but the menu looked too good to pass up. We hurried over there and had a dizzying (in a good way) and delicious experience. We came here at around 2 on a Wednesday afternoon. It was about two-thirds of the way full, impressive given that it was a weekday at a somewhat random time. To start, I got a matcha latte with almond milk and my husband got fresh squeezed OJ. Usually lattes have a bit too much milk for my liking but this one was just perfect. Plus I got to follow through on my resolution to drink more tea in 2024. Food-wise, my husband had been craving French toast for a while so he got the Marnier French Toast and added fired banana and candied walnut topping. I didn't try it but he gave rave reviews. He also got the Millionaire's Bacon because how could he not? At first he didn't love the texture and he found it too spicy (there is a hint of spice to it but he tends to be quite sensitive to any heat) but he ultimately came around and liked it a lot in the end. I don't tend to eat bacon but of course I had to try it and it was such a decadent treat. I was planning on ordering eggs but at the last minute I decided on the Waldorf Wasabi Salad (grilled chicken breast, baby spinach, romaine, cherry tomato, grapes, shallot, cucumber, candied walnuts, and cucumber wasabi dressing), as I was feeling a bit deprived of veggies at the time. I'll come out and say that this was one of the best -- if not the best -- salads I've ever had. The cucumber wasabi dressing was the highlight, but all components were fantastic. The chicken was grilled and seasoned perfectly, perhaps a small ask for a chicken salad but it made a difference. The mango tajin mimosa looks delicious. Wild mushroom pizza was ok, explains why not many pics of the pizza on yelp. Bacons were hearty and what they are known for. I think I will go with the Hemingway again and the bulgogi omelette next time. Rest room there are only 2 so there may be a wait if it is busy. Silverware and water had to get replaced because they were dirty so make sure you check you silverware and glasses. Parking is street parking only. Had lunch here recently and ordered the chicken panini and the hamburger. Both were very tasty and would like to try other things on their menu. However the service was mediocre almost non existent. We were seated and waited 15 minutes for someone to come by our table. This was a Tuesday near noon and they were definitely not full. A couple sat down after us and the waitress came over directly to them and took their order then walked by us and then came back 2 minutes later to give the bill to another table by us and then she took our order...was rushed too. After that the food came out and never saw her again. A young gentleman seem to take over but we had to flag down people to get more coffee and water refills. I wanted another espresso, but gave up on that idea. No one came to check on us at all and then we were sitting there and had to ask for the check. Granted, this is in the heart of the upscale Fillmore District, and I am always willing to pay for fantastic food, but with tax, the to-go bacon sampler came to $7 per slice. I dined alone and ordered a scramble with sweet potato tots that was so wonderful, I forgot to take a picture. I do not recall if I had a beverage, but if I did, it was probably a hot tea. With a 20% tip, my weekday late morning brunch for one (including the bacon for later) came to a whopping $71. Did I enjoy it? Immensely! Will I be eating here frequently? Unfortunately, no. There was more lettuce than anything else with a side of potato wedges for $26. We also got the French toast. Literally one and a half slices of Texas toast for $18. We also paid $6.50 for a cup of brewed coffee which they charged $1 extra for oat milk. So our out the door after they added their sf mandate tax and we added tip was $77 for an order of French toast, a "meatless" bulgogi burger and 2 coffees. I was staying in Japantown and walked over to Sweet Maple one morning. I was torn between the Oscar Eggs Benedict and the Blackstone Eggs Benedict, which features their famous Millionaire's Bacon. I landed on the Oscar--dungeoness crab, asparagus, capers, spinach, parmesan, and a cucumber wasabi hollandaise. For a second, I thought I might go with the Oscar and get a side of Millionaire's Bacon, but I'm glad I decided against that because the Oscar ended up being plenty of food. We liked the space -- it's not too modern but light and cute, service was also fast and friendly. I ordered their popular deep fried French toast and it was too heavy for me even though fired bananas was a good addition to it, I could not finish it. My friends were content with their choices -- Mariner toast, chicken mango sausage and Chicken mango melt. So probably I just did a wrong choice. I had my second visit to Sweet Maple for brunch and it was even better than the last time I was here! We waited for less than 15 minutes to get seated with 4-5 parties in front of us. We chose to sit at the bar so we could be seated quicker. My friend and I split the marnier french toast and the asparagus blackstone omelet so we could have both sweet and savory items. The omelet came out first and the millionaire's bacon inside was SO good. I actually preferred this version of the bacon compared to the last time when I tried the sampler plate. Something about the thick cut, sweet, spicy, and savory bacon was just amazing in the omelette. It was my first time having an omelette with asparagus inside and hollandaise on top, but it made the eggs creamy and the fillings weren't too heavy. I loved their house potatoes on the side, they had a nice rosemary flavor and were the perfect amount of crispy outside and soft fluffy inside. The marnier french toast was also really good, it had a nice light citrusy batter with butter and fresh fruit on top. The toast was cooked well to have a nice chew on the outside with a soft inside and dipping it in the syrup was just perfect. It was a great sweet treat to round out our brunch and I will definitely be back here. I can't wait to try out more of their menu, especially the souffleggs and breakfast pizza. I typically prefer indoor seating, but outdoor seating is great for the rare occasion of warm sunny weather. My go to dish here is the SM Omurice. The fried rice is blanketed over a fluffy creamy egg. The rice itself is not too oily and holds the flavor very well. The Demi glaze that is drizzled over the eggs is subtly sweet and elevated the overall dish. Potatoes were crispy initially, but they get a little soggy after sitting out longer. Millionaire's candy, thinner strips of their signature bacon, was good. Savory and sweet, but too sweet for me.
