We really enjoyed our Sunday afternoon here. The menu wasn't extensive and we almost didn't stay ....but we were hangry and said "let's eat something!" Stumbled upon this little gem of a place when we went to taste wine at Bar Harbor Cellars. We ate outside and the view of the field and farm was fantastic. We split an order of oysters on the half shell, which were grown only a few miles away. They were clean and crisp and very large and satisfying. They came with mignonette sauce, cocktail sauce, lemon and horseradish. We drank Leafpeeper ale from Atlantic Brewing and split a pita sandwich made with roasted veggies. We ate a light lunch but were very impressed with this new farm to table eatery. We look forward to another visit when we are in the area. Best meal so far on our first visit to Bar Harbor. Had roasted garlic appetizer, couple sides and a couple pizzas. Plain cheese pizza for kids that they gobbled up. The Islander for adults - who knew salmon and mussels on pizza would be so good. All enjoyed the polenta. Kids ate like they were french fries. Cute setting. Family friendly. I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars. You MUST go there! I have never written a Yelp review before -- long time listener, first time caller -- but the service and food at Sweet Pea's was so out of this world that I had to shout it from the rooftops. I made an Open Table reservation and just included a quick note asking for a table on the patio since we were trying to have a nice anniversary dinner but would have our three-year-old in tow as we were in the midst of a family vacation. I explained in that two-sentence note that sitting outside would give him something to look at and some space to walk around, which would hopefully make our dinner more relaxed. When we arrived, Sweet Peas had set up an adorable private table for us on the patio and then the farm manager came over and invited our son to go with her blueberry picking and to look at the farm. YES. You read that right. Unrequested, surprise, complimentary childcare so that we could enjoy an anniversary dinner. This was the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for me! And enjoy we did! The cocktails (especially the charred grapefruit), appetizers, entrees and dessert were all incredible. It was by far the best food we had on MDI. It was creative and local and you could taste the care that went into crafting each dish. And our son had an amazing time! He picked (and ate) pint after pint of blueberries and made a new best friend who he still talks about weeks later. It was a magical night that we will always remember. You cannot go wrong with this restaurant -- it is run and staffed by the most caring, creative, and lovely people. read more

What a fantastic hidden gem! We stayed in downtown Bar Harbor while on vacation and were looking for a place for an early dinner away from some of the craziness this summer. We found Sweet Pea's Cafe on Yelp and read many positive reviews, so decided to give it a try. This adorable, farm-to-table restaurant was the perfect way to spend a late afternoon. The service was wonderful, the food was fresh (we split a pizza) and the local wine was delicious - oh, and the happy hour deal on a bottle of wine & pizza could not be beaten. My partner and I ate a late lunch on one of the restaurant's last open days for the season. We ate moules frites, grilled vegetables, and an ice cream sandwich. The mussels and fries were delicious, the vegetables and ice cream sandwich were alright. I would have given four stars but our waitress was rather indifferent to the whole serving process. This was my favorite restaurant on a trip to Mt. Desert Island and Acadia. The restaurant is nestled away from the busy Bar Harbor area. Sat outside around sunset for dinner. They had a nice fire pit for some warmth. I had the wood fired pizza, and it was perfectly cooked with a nice crispness without being burnt like too many wood fired pizzas at other places. The staff were all very prompt and knowledgeable about the menu right down to the ingredients of every dish and where they get their ingredients. read more

What an adorable restaurant! My boyfriend and I had such an amazing time here on a Saturday night for dinner. When we got inside there was a wait for inside tables but the outside by the fire pit was open. We opted to go outside by the fire pit and I'm so happy we did! The outside was beautiful with lights strung everywhere and the fire kept us warm with plenty of wood nearby to put on. We had a very fresh salad, a half dozen oysters, a pizza, and some beers. We were able to customize our pizza to our specifics as well! everything was so fresh and delicious. There was almost no one outside the entire time we ate besides an occasional couple waiting for a table. The server was very attentive even though we were the only people eating outside. I wouldn't have changed the evening at all. The place was beautiful, cozy, and romantic to spend a Saturday night at. Our entire experience was great. We stopped here three times on our short trip to Acadia, that's how much we loved it! We enjoyed the marinated mushrooms & roasted turnip apps while soaking up the sunshine on the back patio! During our multiple visits, my husband and I ordered the veggie (me) & salmon/caper (him) omelets for breakfast and the scallop/caper (me ) & farm ( him) pizzas for dinner. The best wood fired pizzas--cooked to perfection, nice individual size. The place is a bit pricey, but for farm fresh you get what you pay for. They accommodated my eggwhites only omelet request with an upcharge slight. Don't skip the wine tastings! Wish I could take this place back to Florida with me!! read more

Great friendly service! We arrived jut after 6 on a Friday and were asked if we had reservations. We didn't but they said it was ok. They were just saving some tables so they wanted to make sure. We could sit outside or wait about ten minutes. It had sprinkled so the tables outside were damp. There was a nice guy who worked there who saw us waiting out front and told us he was starting a fire outside if we wanted to wait out there. He wiped done the benches and put blankets on them. The fire was nice and the back patio was mice. They worked to wipe all the tables down so we stayed out there and ate. He offered to get us drinks and when I mentioned that we missed the winery's tasting (closed at 6) he offered to bring a taste of the Black current apple. It was really good so I got a glass. We should've got a bottle! The inside of the restaurant is very neat but the patio had a nice breeze. Our server was super. She listened to the kids jokes (and even laughed at them). She was right on top of our needs. She told us the farm to table specials. We got a couple of the wood fired pizzas and a meatball appetizer. All were very good. Ended with a Swiss roll. It was ok. Sweet pea Cafe is a down home restaurant a little off the beaten track with a cozy feel and friendly staff. We stopped in for drinks and light fare. This was the first day of the season and they were busy but seated us on the back foot patio next to a fire almost immediately. The mussels in a tomato basil sauce were fresh and delicious, not even the broth was left in the bowl. Highly recommend for a quality evening experience in Acadia. read more

Stopped in here on a whim Sunday morning. Just happened to be the last day they will be open until spring. Pros: Very friendly service. Breakfast pizza was delicious. You could taste the quality in the ingredients. The crust was soft but chewy- I loved it. Cons: My bacon was very salty. I know bacon is salty but this was too salty for me and I am a fan of salt. FYI: The inside dining area is fairly small- I can imagine that in the summer it can get pretty crowded or at least there would be a wait for seating. Also brunch is only on Sunday's. The one place we went back to last week during vacation to Bar Harbor. Watch the horses run past the pond in the meadow while you sit on the patio and sample locally farmed oysters, extraordinary butternut squash soup, delish pizzas, fresh scallops with polenta...All with a good drink selection and friendly/attentive service from Olivia? Great place to eat for dinner on the fringe of Bar Harbor, and was certainly one of our top meals during our stay on MDI! Beautiful setting makes you feel like your on a farm, with great service, great food (we got pizza and oysters), and reasonably priced bottles of wine. So the food is on the good side of OK. The eggs bene could be good, but our sauce was super sour, like returned the meal sour. The regular American meal is fine. Blueberry pancakes are good, but overly thin. The location is AMAZING. Outdoor seating overlooks a pasture and pond and is away from the roadway. This place is awesome! I had the wood-fired harvest pizza with prosciutto paired with the mixed green salad and they both were amazing! They offer local wines from the local winery next door including a great blueberry wine made with blueberries from Maine. The salad also had pickled onions and local sea beans which I had never tried before. Would highly recommend this place!! read more

First time going here even though we live really close. The service (even during the COVID craziness) was great, food was amazing! Fried polenta side was awesome. Starting with the positive, if I were just writing about the food, I'd give it five stars. The food was excellent. They have a very small menu with only 3 entrees and 3 pizzas. When we started ordering at 6:20, they were already out of one of the entrees! Then it took 75 minutes to serve us our food from the time we ordered. The place was not full, although there was one very overworked server. There was no recognition of the fact that we were waiting such a long time for our food, no apologies, and they forgot the proscuitto on one of the pizza orders. The bill was almost $140 with tip for 3 pizzas, an entree and a salad. Despite delicious food, we were left with a bad taste in our mouths. We live in Maine and come to MDI periodically. Outstanding. We were staying very close by, and tried to avoid driving into Bar Harbor. Perfect location. We called a week ahead for a reservation for 5, and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The draft beer list was small, but high quality. They had "Lunch" from Main Beer on tap. Excellent. Also the wine list was very good. Oysters were outstanding! Mussels were large, and in an excellent broth. All 5 our entrees were delicious. We had the local beets as a side and they were the best! The menu is somewhat small, but there were 3 specials. We had 2 pizzas, the mushroom risotto special, Ratatouille, and the ribs special. No complaints from anybody.
