It really saddens me to leave such a low star review. But unfortunately it has to be done. My husband & I have been coming here for years and have always found the food to be good and flavorful. I like to made note we are not locals to this area, we live in Whittier a city with many great local Mexican restaurants so willing to take a drive to come eat here should speak volumes .. right? When we walked in we noticed it was actually pretty empty for a Sunday. Which really surprised us cause this place is always busy. But we did notice that the other Mexican restaurant down the street was really busy as we did walk by when walking to Taco Surf .. we both said we hope their isn't a long wait for Taco Surf. But as I said walking in the place was empty. So back to food review..... Aside from the chips & salsa and the salad I had, that was probably the only thing that was good and I will add that our server was GREAT!! But unfortunately the rest is just down hill I ordered a taco plate with shredded beef hard shell tacos .. well for starters the taco shells were burnt to the point I was going to send them back. But when I took a bite of my rice & beans .. I myself knew then there was no point in sending them back. The rice was so under cooked and so very bland it wasn't even worth eating and the beans .. probably some of the worst beans I have ever had from a Mexican restaurant... EVER!! They just had no taste at all, like no one clearly put no love into any of the cooking in that kitchen. After taking one bite of the taco I was like ok .. I'll ditch the shell and just eat the meat. But unfortunately that was another miss The meat was more like chunks instead of shredded and again just no flavor at all what's so ever. I ended up drowning my beef chunks in the salsa and ate just that My husband ordered the chicken chimichanga and he said not only was the rice undercooked but the chicken & beans were very bland. Just everything was .. awful I did let our server know about the rice being under cooked as well as the burnt taco shells as well. Of course our server was very apologetic and did offer to replace it. But you can't change the quality of taste with a new plate. We both declined new plates and just settled on eating the chips & salsa and our salad. When asked if we wanted to-go containers and we both said NO and it was at that point I think she knew it was bad. My husband left more than half of his burrito on his plate and I left all the rice & beans on my plate along with the 2 burnt hard taco shells. We paid our bill and walked out. We both were just so disappointed and then we realized why the other Mexican restaurant was more busy. Of all the restaurants on Main Street Taco Surf was the only place NOT busy and we ended up walking to Char-O-Chicken to curve the appetite was still had and yes they were very busy as well. So in the end...Do I see myself returning.. in all honesty.. NO I do not. I've been coming here for over 25 years and they say it only takes 1 experience to ruin it. And this one was it. I'd thought about leaving a 1 star rating .. but because our server was GREAT I decided to leave a 2 star. I'd give her a 5 star if I could. read more

Most times, when I have Mexican food, I stick to my favorite. This time I tried the Pork Chile Verde Burrito and I'm glad I did. Lots of flavors and it also included sliced avocado on top. There is limited seating (for 2) at this location but we were able to get a seat quickly at 6:45pm on a Saturday night. Parties larger than 4 will definitely need to plan ahead. It is beyond me that they can call themselves a taco shop. My husband I came here for a taco Tuesday at 7pm and it was dead and there was not many tables ordering food. One would expect quick service but the employees were all standing around and chatting and the kitchen was blasting metal music which bled through to the front that was playing the radio. Toughest and driest chicken tacos we have ever had and they serve hard taco shells, which were also greasy and fell apart immediately. Salsa was bland and tasteless and the food looked like it sat there for 10 minutes before it came to our table. I've been to Taco Surf (other locations) and thought the food to be good albeit very American. My wife said the joint was empty. That should have been enough. I like that as soon as we sat down a bowl of (tasted store bought) chips and very, very lack luster salsa. My wife asked if they had some hotter salsa the waitress pointed to a bottle of their own habanero hot salsa. I ordered a single carne asada taco for $7.25. $6.95 extra for rice and beans. We went to Seal Beach for the first time. This restaurant is located at the beginning of Main Street, which is a very quaint town. There are a lot of shop to check out. We decided to check out the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is small but accommodates plenty of people. I observed the restaurant to be taken care of, clean, and welcoming. The staff are very nice and work hard. They served us complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit more watery then I like. My kids split the California Burrito and they said "it's Fire Mom!" Which is slang for "very good." My husband and I shared the 3 tacos. They were all very tasty with plenty of condiments on top. The avocado was perfect. Our favorite taco was the fried fish! Delicious! One of the tastiest veggie burritos I have ever had! The salsa is out of this world! Perfect blend of spice & flavor. The guacamole unfortunately was not great. It tasted like it was store boat in a plastic container. I did ask if It was homemade & they said every morning at 6am they prep for the day. It is certainly possible if was a one time accident. It is a great Mexican restaurant in the downtown of Seal Beach. The chips and salsa are great. I had the Grilled Elote and it was excellent--one of the best I have had in a restaurant versus the street vendors which is always great. My kids had burritos and they loved them. They are big burritos that can be shared. The staff was also really sweet and when we had an additional person join our table of 4, they just brought over a chair and it was no problem. They do have excellent food but the draw for us is their soup called scorpion soup. It is delicious! We had that and I also had one of their shrimp tacos. I also had a Cadillac margarita. This review is on service & food. We live in the area...so we said lets grab a drink. Waiting time was a long while...so we moved into the bar just to snag a beer. The girls were ABSOLUTELY FRIENDLY. Asked for our drink order and CHEERS. 2 seats opened...and like the star of the show...FRANK walks in..hair blowing in the wind (not really) but his EXCEPTIONAL welcome made us stay inside at the bar with him, instead of outside. (It was a gorgeous beach day, so you know he really was awesome if we stayed inside) Now, if you dont have expectations when you are served at a bar or restaurant....THEN you are missing out. Frank not only treated us like we were his friends from 10 years back...but the way he is with his staff is incredible. Leaders lead and NEVER see themselves as better. He was able to be a manager as well as run around helping his tables, and assisting his staff. The vibe is so awesome. Poncho....the barback...and cook...greeted us with a huge smile. (He had a mask...but I could tell by the smized eyes) lol But if you're looking for a chill bar with some great service.....and good food (we had a taco & quesadilla) then here ya go. We would have ordered...but our beers were just so quench worthy...and we will say we got distracted drinking rather than eating. I ordered a grilled fish burrito and it tasted like meat. I opened the burrito to see if it was really fish, and it was. The problem was it tasted like meat which tells me that they did not do a good job cleaning the grilling will not wart grilled fish from them again. I had previously had the fried fish burrito and it was goodish. There was a person screaming in the bathroom and that was disturbing. We've been going here for casual, fresh, tasty Mexican food since 1990. Always consistently fresh and yummy. We especially enjoy their Brandi's Salad with Shrimp and the Carnitas Quesadilla. Went to check out this place for the first time. They have tv's playing sports games on them. Really friendly staff, cocktails were very tasty and plenty of liquor in them. I had the Al pastor nachos and quesadilla with the fish and shrimp in it and it was delicious, can't wait to have it again.
