I was down in Seal Beach last week around dinner time and I was getting hungry. So, I asked myself, "What would please me the most?" Hamburger? Meatloaf dinner? Roasted half chicken dinner? But as I drove up Main Street I came to my favorite Mexican food place, Taco Surf. I parked and went inside and took a spot at the bar. Immediately, I was greeted and handed a menu, which I really didn't need b/c I knew what I wanted: Baja style grilled fish tacos with flour tortillas.....3 of them. I received the usual chips and salsa and waited for my tacos, which were delivered in about 10 minutes. Just as my memory told me, they were excellent, although you wouldn't want to consume these epicurean masterpieces in the presence of your new girl friend.........they're quite large and messy when trying to get them in a normal size mouth. I've never had a less than a 5 star experience when eating here, and that's my rating for this most recent visit. Really..............I should come down here more often. read more

Taco Surf has great tacos. It is in a wonderful location in Seal Beach right on Main Street. There is lots to do there before and after having a drink and your tacos. Now this place is not fancy, so if you want that this is not for you. The service is just super. Everyone is so friendly and the service is fast, your order is always right and the food is hot. Perfect. You will love any of their tacos. My favorite is the shrimp tacos because the shrimp is cooked so perfectly and tastes ever so fresh. I also love the Brandi salad with carnitas, just yum. I almost took a star away for having Pepsi products vs Coke but thankfully the place next door came to the rescue! That aside, HOLY MOLY was this restaurant beyond my expectations. We tried the soft shrimp tacos, soft fish tacos, crispy tacos ( shredded beef & shredded pork) guacamole, refried beans, cold beer and a crispy fish tostada. My favorite item: shredded pork crispy taco. The Taco Surf salsa is better than most, it's fresh and delish! The service is STELLAR our server was kind and gentle with us or especially me. I know I can be "special" but she did not fail us. My bestie was in from out of state visiting. It was a beautiful Sunday and sitting outside was just perfect. We ordered the small nachos and still, it was massive. The servings are not for the shy and of course we got our Margaritas. It is more of a Cali Mex fusion so if you are aware of that you will be fine. Over all my server made a difference and we shall return. We went to the Thai place next door to eat. They were so rude, we came here instead. We were immediately greeted by Brenda. They were busier than the Thai place yet sat us right way. The fish tacos were good and crispy. I'm Mexican so I'm pretty picky about my Mexican food. It was overall pretty good. We got wet burritos. (I know that's not super Mexican don't come for me) but they were huge and the shredded beef was tender. The carne asada plate was good. Brenda gave us the best service. The food runner was also on game. I work in the industry so great service is a must. They place was clean and cute. Definitely a great choice. read more

My favorite item here has always been the Brandi salad with carnitas! It's a huge portion so I'd definitely suggest sharing it with someone or taking half to go! It has lots of avocado, meat, cheese, lettuce, and ranch. I get it without the pico. Business has definitely picked up and it took awhile to get our food yesterday. My Wife and I Eat here quite often at least twice a week, and have been regulars for about25 years, All of The Food is really good so i could list most of the menu, the food usually is served very quickly, and rarely do you have to wait unless the place is packed but even then your food is served within 10-15 minutes, they have multiple Televisions and a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, Poncho is an awesome chef, and hooks it up, and the prices are very fair here. Sabrina is the server who we request regularly if she is working when we go here, she is very friendly and makes you feel at home like part of the family, she is a great asset to this business. if anything is wrong she takes care of it right away. My mouth is watering right now just thinking of the fish burrito I just had. The tortillas are fresh which is where a good burrito starts at and then comes the insides yum. The fish is battered perfectly, the rice and beans are flavored great. The kicker though is the fish sauce and the chunky salsa, if you order this burrito please do not forget to ask for a side of both of those sauces, you will not be disappointed. Taco surf has a great location and is usually always busy due to it's proximity to the pier. Their soup and mostly all their entrees are good for the price. Just don't ever order a burger. It is one one the worst. No effort whatsoever is taken to make it task good. They come with no condiments, not even an onion or lettuce. That coast extra. The fries were delicious. If you're looking for a break and want to enjoy a margarita near the beach then look no further. They offer outdoor street dining which we preferred over sitting inside. The large umbrellas were a plus as the sun was strong on this late summer day. The only food item we ordered was a potato taco and those free chips and salsa are deliciously addicting. Food is great, tacos were spectacular. Staff is friendly and extraordinary hospitable from the moment my family and I arrived. It was my first time here, as for my folks it's their regular Friday dinner spot. Sabrina recommend a three taco plate so I get a flavor for each which were the Baja, Grilled Fish and Shrimp. I give this place a solid 3.5 stars. ATMOSPHERE It's your stereotypical beach shack restaurant and I absolutely love it. It's not what you see everywhere else. You know, the modern, bright white, hints of color, some metal, etc. It's a true beach atmosphere. Sand on the ground because of the beach traffic, buckets full of beer, neon signs, wood tables, tiki decor... Love it! It's small inside, but they're able to accommodate a good amount of people! CUSTOMER SERVICE I have yet to be disappointed. I feel like the staff dig their jobs. If they don't, they do a good job faking it. We got seated immediately and our server came within minutes to take our drink orders. Although it wasn't super busy, our water glasses were empty a few times and we had to ask for refills. She also didn't check on us mid meal to see if we needed anything... but it's cool. No big deal. FOOD I ordered a BAJA FISH TACO and the FLAUTAS (flour tortilla with shredded beef) The BAJA FISH TACO was just ok. I've definitely had better. The slaw was pretty bland, they didn't have a creamy sauce on top like most baja fish tacos do. It was just a big dollop of guac. I didn't mind the guac, but the dish lacked balance. It was all pretty bland... It needed some acid. Maybe a squeeze of lime or something or a tangy chipotle cream sauce or something... Also, no limes were included in the order, which is also typically pretty standard. The fish was overcooked and a little on the salty side. The FLAUTAS were better than the taco. The shredded beef is delicious. They were cooked perfectly and there was a generous amount of meat inside. I love the flaky tortilla after it's fried. I put guac and sour cream on it and use the salsa that they give with the chips on it, instead of the pico de gallo that comes with the plate. So good! Excellent find here on Main St. and steps to the pier/beach area. On a road trip down from LA, the tacos here are very good! They have some patio dining but it's a small area. The wait times were not bad either for a weekend lunch hour. I suggest to just take it to the beach area and eat it there which is what my husband and I did. Just look at the big pieces of battered fish in my taco salad! So good!! And my husband got carne asada and chicken tacos. I love Taco Surf. I've come here for years and tried multiple locations. Since I'm in town visiting, I have to get my fix. My go-to meal is the Seafood Bowl. It's sooo yummy, especially with their signature Baja Sauce drizzled on top. If you're looking for something really tasty, try a burrito Baja Style or get a wet burrito with Baja Sauce.
