I can hear you shrieking from way over here (to be honest, I am giddy alongside you! I have seen Ryan's band live from1st row and caught him on a Vespa near my apartment and I also died a few times). Ryan fell in love with Chef Ben's dishes, became friends at Ken's Mojo Dojo Casa House (haha) and (along with Chris Angulo) created the concept of Tagine: an enchanting and sexy Moroccan eatery seducing with the flavors of Morocco. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tagine holds real estate on Robertson in Beverly Hills (where else would you expect from Mr. Gosling?) in a small building that honestly, from the exterior, looks somewhat hole-in-the-wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It doesn't help that Tagine has limited hours from 6-10:30 which my boyfriend and I learned the hard way when we attempted to enter at 5:30. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once inside, Tagine does indeed evoke the velvety sensuality of Morrocco with chandeliers, candles, artwork, sconces, wooden accents and warm paint tones.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, you can hardly see these decorative details because it is pitch black in Tagine. I'm not talking, "We have romantic lighting". I'm talking, Ryan must have forgotten to pay his LADWP electric bill. It is so dark in Tagine that EVERYONE is forced to use their cell phone flash lights to view the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I am all about low light; but this is a bit ridiculous leading you to feel like you are eating in a cave. Let's turn up the dimmer switch, shall we, Tagine? The menu at Tagine holds true to the traditional warm spices and dishes of Morocco elevated ever so subtly to a modernized Los Angeles vibe. My boyfriend and I kicked off the evening with a glass of the Tagine House-made Sangria ($16) and an appetizer of Hummus (Chef Ben's mom's recipe served with Berber bread - $14). For our entrees, I kept with the theme and ordered Chicken Tagine (marinated chicken, preserved lemons, and stewed vegetables - $31) while my beau ordered the New Zealand Lamb Chop ($45). We have to talk about this Sangria because turns out: Moroccan Sangria is MIND-BLOWING and you will fall more in love with it than Ryan Gosling in, "The Notebook". Moroccan Sangria ups the ante of regular sangria with cinnamon and cloves and I cannot explain how delicious it is! This is a must-try! The hummus was creamy and quite traditional but still wonderful. I've never had Tagine before so this Chicken Tagine was popping my cherry and it was exquisite! A stew-like dish of tender, grilled chicken in a simmered sauce with vegetables and lemon. It is sooooo good! My only complaint is that it is super salty due to the excess of olives which is to the detriment to me because I despise olives. The lamb chops arrived grilled on a bed of garlic-potato puree (we think? We weren't exactly sure), glazed carrots and potatoes. Each ingredient shines on your tongue but plays a delicate role in the combine symphony. Bravo! My boyfriend and I ended our Moroccan date night with Baklava (4 pieces - $14) which had the perfect ratio of nuts to honey without being too sweet but to be fair: all baklava tastes mostly the same to me. Tagine is a romantic Moroccan getaway that excels with Chef Ben's (mother's) recipes and a tie-in with Ryan Gosling and is absolutely recommended to experience. What a tremendous experience I had at Tagine's. I found this place at the last minute for a Valentines Day dinner. It was a pre-fixe menu. Everything was delicious and well prepared. My date loved this experience too. This is an interesting place. While I found the food to be good the service was horrible. We did not have reservations so they sat us in the corner next to the door when there were plenty of tables open-I asked to get moved they said they have reservations coming in I thought no big deal. Food here was perfection. The lamb bastilla was crispy crunchy flaky while being savory and sweet. It was so unique and nothing like I've had before. The chicken tagine was absolutely amazing. The chicken breast was incredibly juicy with a flavorful sauce almost like curry. My gripe is the service was pretty poor, specifically the host who was welcoming to other guests but did not bother to tell us what dishes we had when he delivered them. There were also other guests that came in after us who were served before us. Also it took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to getting our first dish. One callout is they only serve beer and wine but had a small but good selection to choose from. I had a glass of the Malbec and it went great with the dishes we got for dinner. We ordered the house hummus, chicken tagine, and lamb tagine. Their portions are very generous, we even had leftovers The hummus and chicken tagine were exceptional! The lamb couscous was more sweet than we expected. Would pair better with additional savory veg or startch to break it up. But the meat was so tender and didn't have the usual gamey taste that lamb sometimes gives off Overall I would love to go back and try more of their other Moroccan house dishes and signature chocolate soup! The honey flavor was subtle. The more predominant flavor note of the lamb was a little char that made it even more rich and heavenly. Eggplant in the sauce also contributed to the earthy warmth of the dish. I love! Companions also liked their choices. Service was prompt and correct for us, but the table next to us had a little problem, one of them ordered the Vegetarian Tasting and at each course, was brought the corresponding dish from the Signature Tasting, it had to go back to the kitchen and be replaced. When I walked inside, I felt like I was walking into the living room of someone's home. Really intimate, cozy, and relaxed vibe serving up Moroccan dishes! The atmosphere is dimly lit and the service is pretty good. The food is on the sweeter side with warm spices such as cinnamon that make a prominent statement. I came here on a date to check out what they had for Dine LA (which has just ended). For appetizers, we got the Bastilla Chicken and Shrimp Mosaic Salad. The Bastilla Chicken was grounded up and wrapped in a thin phyllo-like dough with a dusting of warm spices. The Shrimp Mosaic Salad was bright and sweet with diced nuts and other small veggies to give it more texture. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and overall topped with a sweet dressing. Between the two, I liked the Shrimp Mosaic Salad better since it was more filling and had more dimensions of flavor. For the entrees, we got the Honey Lamb Tagine and the Fish of the Day Tagine, which happened to be seabass. The Honey Lamb was sweet as expected over a nice amount of couscous. A bit too sweet for my liking of an entree, especially after the sweet appetizers, but still good. The Fish of the Day Tagine was definitely the star. Well cooked and very tasty. It was smaller portion wise, but I preferred it more. I also had their Moroccan Sangria. It was on the dryer side and not as sweet with some mint elements. Since it was on the bitter side, it actually paired well with the Honey Lamb Tagine. However, as a standalone drink I probably wouldn't get it by itself. Lastly, for dessert we got the Chocolat Soup and Sorbet Mixed Berries. The Chocolat Soup had a nice thick ganache-mousse with a warm chocolate sauce. Very chocolately! The Sorbet was mint and fresh. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for so long and finally made it happen during a date night with my husband. As you might of heard, Ryan Gosling is a co-owner of the restaurant. PARKING: Street metered parking (free after 6pm) on the weekdays. I'm not sure about weekends. RESERVATIONS: Highly recommend reservations as it is a smaller restaurant. It was booked full for the entire night (given Covid limitations) and I could hear plenty of people/calls were turned away for last minute dinner reservations. SERVICE: There were two main people helping us for our dinner that evening. I wish I got his name (seemed to be the manager), but he was really sweet and helped explain each dish that was brought out. He knew we weren't as familiar with Moroccan cuisine and did an excellent job of checking in and highlighting the different flavors of each dish. Although we didn't order the tasting, it felt like we were getting a tasting with small samples and the explanations. COMPLIMENTARY STARTERS: We were served 2 small servings of their house vegetable soup. It was delicious and truly felt warming to the soul! ROASTED EGGPLANT ZAAKOUK: This was such a good appetizer that comes with Berber bread. They even refilled the bread for us as well. Must get and totally would get it again! NEW ZEALAND LAMB CHOP: These lamb chops come with market vegetables, and harissa mushroom sauce. My husband ordered these and these were delicious-not too gamy at all! SEA BASS TAGINE: This was one of their specials of the night (not listed on their current menu), but a fan-favorite that I believe they regularly try to have. This comes with roasted pan sea bass, potato puree, and sautéed mixed peppers. I love how they didn't over-flavor the sea bass and let the fish itself be enjoyed. Overall it was good and I enjoyed the dish. BAKLAVA: I tried to check-in on yelp for their free dessert. Apparently, they haven't removed it and it was a very old promotion. Nonetheless, they provided us with a complimentary tasting of their baklava that is made with filo dough, almond, and pure honey. These came out warm and were SOOOO GOOD! I've had baklava before, but NEVER like these. A must get! MOROCCAN MINT TEA: We were given these as a complimentary end to our meal. I've NEVER had Moroccan mint tea like this-they added what seems to be honey and it just really complemented the mint tea! Perfect way to end our meal! My wife and I and a friend had a delightful Moroccan dinner here --- and a very filling one. After we ordered we were given toasted pita slices with some of the best hummus I've had in a long time --- creamy and rich and freshly prepared. For starters, we had a chicken and a fish bastilla. Both were perfectly perfectly prepared with flaky, crispy crusts and the right balance between sweet and savoury that are unique to this traditional Moroccan dish. For mains we had the Couscous Royal and the Chicken Tagine. I'm not usually a fan of couscous dishes but this one was outstanding with beef, lamb chops, chicken, kefta and vegetables. The quality of the ingredients was first rate with a special shout out for the lamb chops which were very tender. Usually we don't order dessert but the food here was so great we decided to make an exception. We ordered the specialty of the restaurant: chocolate soup. Chocolate soup is poured over house-made banana ice cream. Incredibly good! As we had long drives back on a rainy night, both my friend and I ordered terrifically prepared espressos. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, professional (as this restaurant has a fine dining feel to it). The ambiance of the restaurant is stylish and intimate with subdued lighting. The three of us felt it could easily be in New York. Definitely a restaurant I'll try to come back to. read more

The food here is delicious. I tried the 9 course tasting menu and everything was so good, and enough food that we even had some left overs! Some dishes were new to me, and the sweet and savory flavors combined well to create something really unique. You can tell the owner really loves and cares about his restaurant. A very interesting Moroccan cuisine and a cozy atmosphere that felt authentic. The food we had was shared between three people with a big appetite! To start the meal we had hummus which was excellent. It was smooth and just a hint of garlic. It was served with pita bread slices. Then we had Chicken Bastilla and Fish Bastilla. They were delicious and flaky. The Couscous Royal was prepared and presented well with beef, lamb chops, chicken, kefta, and vegetables. You know it. My experience my review. We were in the mood for a new location and my hubby suggested this marvelous little place in a very busy city. As soon as you walk in you are mesmerized by the look of the location. Jazz music playing inside and the warm lighting that is very inviting. We were seated right away and the gentleman who was the server and the host had a very welcoming look about him. We were handed our menus and being that my hubby and I had never had Moroccan food, were lost at what we should order. The server came back and said if we needed help with our menus but they were very easy to understand. We ordered the lentil soup, the stuffed artichoke for starters. For dinner I ordered the salmon and my hubby the braised beef with couscous. It was a weeknight so we kept it non alcoholic and had sparkling water. My husband raves about his lentil soup but let me tell you about the artichoke. It was covered in a delicious array of vegetables that were cooked al dente. The spices that were used were very delicious. It was buttery like and tasted so delicious. The artichoke was not meaty but it was just right. Then came our dinners. The salmon was spectacular with the same kind of vegetables that just melted in your mouth. The salmon was cooked to perfection. Not over cooked just right. The braised beef was just as delicious. Soft and the spices used made it perfect. The couscous was not hard or too overly cooked, Just right. For desert we shared a delicious ice cream that had nuts and raisins then covered in melted chocolate. It was the perfect ending to our night out. It was an early Father's Day dinner and it was just perfect. Needless to say we will be coming back to try other dishes. The only reason I gave it a 4 stars was that we waited for a long time to get the server to come to us since he was the only one. read more
