I've been on the hunt for authentic Caribbean food, especially Jamaican cuisine since moving to Los Angeles from New York and found my spot here. Delivery order included the oxtail platter, beef patties, and jerk chicken. Oxtail Platter: The oxtail was perfectly tender and juicy....and yes, got in the bones! The platter included steamed cabbage and vegetables with the bonnet peppers adding an extra kick to the flavors. I was surprised that the rice and peas were not mushy based on other spots I've ordered from so was pleasantly surprised. Beef Patties: Believe homemade and definitely not a Gold Krust type (IYKYK) of pastry aka not dry. Beef was juicy and the pastry was flaky with crunch and retained the flavors. Jerk Chicken: Chicken was tender and meat fell off the bone. The platter also included the rice and peas (red beans). Each platter included festival bread which helped to sop the juices. So happy Ackee Bamboo Jamaican Cuisine is back, and now in a beautiful new home on Robertson. This has always been one of my staple spots for Jamaican food, and the new location delivers the same great flavor with an even better setup. I called my order in ahead of time, and they told me it'd be about 15 minutes. Perfect, since I live about that far. When I arrived, I only waited about five minutes in the lobby before my food came out piping hot. I ordered two large oxtail plates, and they were everything they needed to be: tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. Each plate came with rice and peas, plantain, and veggies, all cooked perfectly. I also grabbed a side of jerk chicken, which came with three pieces and had great heat and seasoning. Everything tasted amazing. The meats. It's all about the meats. They are so tender and flavorful. We're talking slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone, juicy deliciousness. It's a good idea to call ahead if you're hungry. We called about 15 minutes ahead and waited another 15 minutes when we arrived. The woman up front was nothing but friendly. Vibes: You're in Leimert Park; thus, there is a lot of black culture to experience from the businesses, art, and, if you're lucky, the music. It's not your Hollywood-type place but more over a grit and grind area. The place itself is pretty simple. Pictures of food, award, news articles about the place. Good for family and friends. FOOD: Jerk Chicken Combo (Recommend) Delicious! There was a good amount of spice to give it a good savory kick. The cabbage salad provided a nice change in flavor and textures. Plantains were fresh and sweet. The bread was like a subtly sweet donut but great for dipping in the jerk sauce. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great!
