This restaurant has been in our Indian restaurant rotation over the past few years. We typically make it out 3-4 times a year. Upon dining here tonight we noticed something was off but couldn't put our finger on it. We later learned that the place is under new management as of a few months ago and they now have one of the original chefs from our favorite restaurant closer to home, Paradise Biriyani Pointe! That's it! The flavors at Tandul were slightly different and much improved from before. Before, the food was hit or miss depending on which dish you tried. Now, everything coming out of the kitchen was fab. Fun fact. There is a hidden menu item that was on their original menu that is no longer listed but you can still order it upon request. It's called a Bombay omelette and it's like an appetizer. It tastes good with naan. Hubby loved the new and improved Goat biriyani. Sadly, I only got a few pics tonight because the fam went to town. We'll definitely try to make it out here more often now that the food has improved! This is my number 2 favorite Indian restaurant. read more

Some of the best Indian food that I've found near Cleveland! Being tremont, it's always hit or miss for parking, however Tandul is perfect for a nice date night or just a craving for Indian food. The prices are slightly higher than other Indian restaurants nearby, but I would say it's justified by the quality of food. The restaurant was a little dimly lit and got a little loud. It also seemed like there was only one server for the whole restaurant so it was a little slow. However, we weren't in a rush and she was really nice! They also didn't have some of the beers that they listed on their menu. I got the saag paneer which was great. As someone who likes spicy food, I thought medium spicy was enough of a kick without being too hot. The samosas were also delicious and super crispy. Unfortunately I wish this review could be better. I met a friend out to dinner here. This is one of her places in her area to grab takeout. When I arrived the it was an interesting setup completely dark in the front dining area where we were seated and you were sat so close to other patrons you felt on top of each other. My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio it took the waitress 20 minutes to say we don't have it. I then requested a Vino Verde and without looking she stated she didn't have it the only thing she could offer was Corona. We said forget the drinks and ordered a couple bowls of hot & sour soup vegan and samosas as an appetizer. The soup was so amazing and samosa very flavorful. We then ordered an entree Chicken Paneer Masala and my request of vegan Alo Gobi as it was not on the menu. My friend ordered a garlic naan and I requested a vegan roti which I was told wasn't doable. The order was repeated for us. I asked for a manager because the waitress in her words wasn't sure why roti wasn't vegan. The owner came over and said butter was already mixed in the batter. Truly sad. However he stated he could make the alo gobi no problems. We watched them make a ton of takeout orders and got antsy. About 45 minutes went by and we asked where were the entrees. She goes oh I didn't know you wanted them and forget to ring it in. She offered to make our meals in 5 minutes which is impossible as we know ( both restaurant employees). In order not to wait we just had 2 more bowls of soup. The owner delivered the bowls of soup and I joked round 2 of soup. I have been looking for good Indian food in Cleveland for the past few years and this has definitely been the best. I love the Malai kofta and will be back for it. Watch out because it is spicy and even though I enjoy spicy food, I had to ask for medium my second time there. Their mango lassi is also delicious and creamy. My only issue is that the restaurant itself is really hot with not much air-conditioning and many flies flying around. Stopped here after going to Cuyahoga Valley national park. We sat outside since this was during the COVID pandemic. They had a little area roped off with a few small tables just out front of the restaurant on the sidewalk. There was shade with a large tree next to the tables, although this wasn't particularly desired since I was already cold in low 60ish degree weather. This restaurant introduced me to papadum since they serve it as a free appetizer to customers who dine here. That was so oh so amazing! Indian restaurants where I live in Columbus don't do that and now I'm bummed about it! It came with 2 different dipping sauces, but I thought the papadum was delicious by itself so I really didn't use much of either. I ordered my typical chicken saag, or whatever it's called there (the one with spinach and either paneer or some type of meat). That is my go to Indian dish as a basis for comparison at various places. It was good, but not my favorite. I was still very happy with my selection. The portions were large and I had leftovers to eat for dinner, which was nice. The only weird thing was that when we paid, the tip had to be in cash even though we could still pay with a credit card for the actual bill. But then there was a tip line on the receipt for the credit card charge. That was difficult since all three of us typically use credit cards for everything and we all had limited bills. With that weird policy, they got less of a tip than they would have had we been able to use our cards. Oh and also, my water glass had a lipstick stain on it. This even happens at fancier joints so I think it's more due to stubborn lipsticks (smudge proof ones?) rather than lack of cleanliness. Great Indian food in Tremont! My husband and I live on the westside and always either order Tandul or Indian Delight for takeout. We have also eaten at Tandul before and it's a cute location with good ambience. Tandul has a ton of options and all are great (more options than Indian delight but slightly more expensive). Have liked every dish we have ever had. Be aware though, if you ask for spicy, they do not mess around! read more

This place is AMAZING! Best Indian food I've had in Cleveland. Spacious inside with options to eat inside and outside. The service is phenomenal and were super willing to help accommodate a birthday! They had nice music playing which contributed to all the good vibes. Their menu was extensive, with great vegetarian and non vegetarian options. They didn't ask for a spice level but they each paired well with the dish. Biryani was really spicy and tasty. The naans and rotis were fresh as well as the appetizer. Met a friend here with my husband and baby for dinner on a Friday evening (early). We were seated right away and they had a high chair (bonus!) This definitely has the feel of a family owned restaurant and the food is pretty darn good. For me the star of the evening was the Gobi 65. I could have eaten two plates of that stuff all by my self! For dinner we had the chickpea masala, paneer tikka masala, and the butter chicken. Also grabbed an order of plain naan and garlic naan. We got "medium" spicy. The spice level was good but I could have taken a slight bit more heat. Next time I will go a bit hotter. The food was super flavorful and there was enough for leftovers. We have been ordering from here for years. Lately, we've noticed the quality of the food change from amazing to utter disappointment. Today, we ordered three things: 1. Garlic Naan 2. Samosas 3. Chicken Chettined The garlic naan tasted like it had jarred garlic on it, the samosas taste freezer burned and the chicken chettined tasted like the chicken was originally a frozen chicken strip that was over cooked to the point of being as dry as sawdust. They are probably one of the best Indian restaurants around Cleveland and food tastes fresh and rich in flavor. Inside of restaurant could have better ambience as most people order to go and eat outside. It appears too dark inside for a restaurant I don't think is so romantic . Oh my gosh this place stepped up to the plate. With alot of restaurants closing, I was pleased to give this one another shot. The to go order of both my wife and I's meals got us in a timely manner, were packaged well, and all food items were still steaming hot! Like our first time, we got the butter chicken but I went ahead and ordered the Afghani lamb chops as well and.....HOLY FREAKING FLAVOR, BATMAN! These lamb chops were so good I ordered them again the following night! Just incredibly seasoned, and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crisp and spice level. I decided to give this place another try after my first attempt last week when i arrived during posted business hours to find the place closed. I made sure to call first before driving there to verify that they had the buffet today. I brought my family who all love Indian food and everybody liked it pretty well. We all tried the buffet. There were several main dishes to choose from, including two chicken dishes, a lettuce salad, a vegetable dish, naan, dhal, and a few sauces to accompany. The jalapeño and cilantro sauce was very fresh and tasty. The raita was also very fresh. I thought the service was good, too. This is my go to place for Indian food in Cleveland. I haven't had all the Indian food in the world but I've been a few places around the block. I mean, whatever, everyone's got different tastes. I love all of their cauliflower appetizers. Have tried almost all of the vegan entrees and have not been disappointed. The food is rich and delicious and I always go home with leftovers. Don't forget the naan. The parking can be a bit challenging sometimes since this is Tremont. I don't go during dinner rush hours so I haven't had a problem. It is kinda funny that the servers always try to get people to order alcoholic drinks here. You only get the food menu after you have been given time to peruse the drink menu. Little disappointed with this place and the reason is I went with lot of expectations based on the reviews and pictures which people have posted.The place is near to Cleveland downtown, in a residential area. Street parking is available but can be challenging on weekends. Inside the restaurant there is bar on the entrance. Few tables on 1st floor and then some private sort of rooms and then a big table in the center.It seems to be an old house converted into a restaurant. I ordered chicken tikka for appetizers and it was a total disappointment. For main course, I ordered Dal Tadka (Yellow Lentils) and Bhindi Masala(Okra dish) along with garlic naan. Both the items were just OK. The main thing which I found n all the dishes was that there was o flavors which to me is the must have for any Indian dish. The place is neat and clean. SO GOOD! I think I went every week for 2 months when I first discovered this place. The menu is quite extensive and the portions are pretty generous. I'll always split some samosas with others and get an entree for myself. I've made my way through all of the lamb/goat entrees, and they're all worth a try. I've tried bites of others' chicken curries and even veggie and fish curries, which were quite delicious as well. The mango lassi was a nice little splurge the few times i've gotten it. The beer from India is also a great everyday drinker beer, and it's a good amount of volume as well. The naan is fresh made and smells amazing the moment it hits the table. Stopped here for a drink with a friend and decided to get some food to-go. Atmosphere at the bar was nice, very chill with dim lighting but a colorful glow from the holiday lights on the window. The bartender was soft-spoken but no issues with service; she helped me with picking out what food to get, kept our water glasses full, and brought us over some chips and dips to much on while we drank and waited. Some hoppin' Indian music was playing and after a couple more drinks we probably would have started shimmying and shaking. As for food: *Table chips and Dip Free - Very light and crispy with a black pepper flavor. The dip is thin so you gotta let your chip sit for a minute to soak. *Chicken Tikka Masala $14.99 - Very saucy. Usually I don't use all of the white rice they give you but with this version you need it. Also note that while some Indian places make this dish with coconut milk, Tandul does not. Large portion so you can definitely share or get a couple meals out of it. *Garlic Cheese Naan $4.99 - A bit too soft so I think it could have used another minute or two to cook, but great flavor and perfect for tearing off chunks to scoop up your entree with. *Samosa $5.99 - You get three large ones plus a green sauce and a brown sauce. *Gobi Manchurian $10.99 - Cauliflower you don't mind eating. The food here definitely has some heat to it so be warned, I asked for mild and still thought it was spicy, but I am also a wimp. Portions are generous. Prices seem a little high. But, I enjoyed my food and I am looking forward to leftovers. I will definitely be back to explore more of their menu! I just might need to ask for a side of yogurt sauce to cool down my mouth with. Normally that would annoy me, but they were so nice and agreeable when we arrived that I quickly forgot. They suggested the vegetable 555 as an appetizer and it was divine. Salty, smoky and spicy. We also got the butter chicken (classic and delicious) and the vegetable korma, followed by so much delicious naan I quickly forgot my name and slipped into a naan carb coma. This place has great food, like I don't normally like Indian food and my girlfriend brought me here and I was surprised that in fact I did like Indian food. I ordered a mixed mango drink which was delicious and I couldn't taste the alcohol in it, along with the garlic cheese naan which was also crispy and good. Their starting chips (not sure what they give you) are tastier than tortilla chips and oddly reminiscent of it, and they give you two sauces one of which is very spicy. I had the chicken tika masala which is super Americanized but was quite delicious. My girl had the goat and enjoyed it; I tasted it but I don't like goat as it's too gamey for me. The service was excellent and the food was reasonably priced, the alcohol can be a bit on the expensive side and they can run out of wine which is why they get 4 stars. read more

While we visited Cleveland today we tried Tandul for the first time. We are authentic Indian food lovers and we absolutely LOVED the dishes we were served! Everything was homemade and so flavorful. The staff was also very welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be back next time we're in CLE and would highly recommend this restaurant! I wanna love this place I really do. Having said that let me also say this - of the Indian places nearby this is pretty legit. So why am I complaining. My first experience here was very poor but I went back and ordered take out a couple times to see if it got better. When I did done in last , Labor Day 2018, the pappad was stale. That was one thing and then came the malai kofta I ordered which also wasn't up to snuff as it normally is. Admittedly they did say they were slammed because they were the only place open at the day but that's not my concern. The dumplings seemed poorly made and a little too oily - yes I get they are fried and I'm not saying they ought to have baked it but even for fried it was way too oily The drinks were ok nothing to write home about and nothing to complain either. The bread was phenomenal , the Kashmiri naan was on point. The service could be way better but I'm giving that a pass because they were busy and I doubt they were expecting to be that packed. Far & away one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, & easily my favorite in Tremont. I wasn't even sure I liked Indian food, & now I can't stop thinking about it. I love their Paneer 65 appetizer (spicy fried cheese cubes), & their kaju curry is incredibly flavorful & well-spiced, especially considering that it has no meat OR veggies! I would eat this every day if I could afford it. Luckily, their servings are large, & dinner there usually leaves me with enough for lunch the next day. Tandul is a quaint, new Indian restaurant in Tremont. I recently went to try the lunch buffet and found it sparse compared to other Indian buffets in NEO. The main offerings were basmati rice, lemon rice, two chicken dishes, a vegetable dish, a dal, samosas, and gulab jamun. That's quite a few options, but one of the chicken dishes was essentially gone and was not refilled and there were only about three pieces of naan left when we arrived. There was still about an hour left for the posted buffet hours, so that was a bit disappointing. What we did sample was tasty. The butter chicken had good flavor, the samosas were quite spicy (though oddly cut in half), the lemon rice had cashew bits, and the gulab jamun was perfect. I don't often see it at Indian buffets as the process to make it is time consuming, so I was happy to have it at Tandul. I did order a mango lassi after sampling a samosa. I wanted something to tame the heat, and this lassi was ideal for that purpose. It was probably the thickest lassi I've ever had, with a pronounced yogurt flavor. I might not order it with the buffet again, but I think it would be an excellent choice for something like a fiery lamb vindaloo. Toward the end of our meal, our server did come out with hot, fresh, buttery naan. That made my mouth happy; I just wish it had been presented at the beginning of the meal! However, our server was so genuinely kind and attentive. It seemed like he definitely cared about our experience and wanted to make sure that we left happy, and that carries a lot of clout with me. My rating is somewhere between a 3 and a 4 as I was a little underwhelmed by the buffet, but the fresh, hot naan, the thick mango lassi, and the superb service from our waiter would give me reason to come back. read more

Nice option for Indian food in Cleveland. Recently moved from Brooklyn NY and were happy to find a quality Indian restaurant in our neighborhood. Take out is quick and food still hot when we got home. Dine in service was great as well, servers were very friendly and attentive. Recommend giving it a try.
