At 9:20am, the restaurant was pretty empty (5 other diners) so it was choose your own table. I ordered coffee and the Corned Beef Hash with eggs. The coffee was rich and "thick", just how I like it, served in an eclectic cup and saucer. The corned beef hash came out later ... Served in an oval cast iron skillet, it featured a bounty of fried potatoes with onion and peppers, over which the hash was layered. Two perfectly cooked eggs (easy over) topped the dish. I asked for Worcestershire sauce, a condiment that I like with corned beef hash. A small metal container was provided ... Thanks! The dish was great, but I would have been happy with less potatoes. I'm from the school of "If you order it, you finish it" but try as I might, I left a few potatoes in the skillet. I like the food at Tango ... Unfortunately, I don't get here often enough. read more

I love the ambiance of tango and previously I loved their food too. Only recently have I been back. Well the tango burger was good but i still have had better burgers around. It was definitely a medium as I had ordered. The fries were a little weird. I like fries that are thinly cut but these were sort of thick chunky spiral fries that were semi crispy and semi soft. I prefer crunchy fries over soft fries. The salmon salad was a disappointment. I think the base of the salad was a cabbage slaw, maybe won bok and red cabbage? The salmon was rather fatty and didn't have much of any taste. There were maybe two chunks of mandarin oranges and the dressing was rather disappointing. I think it was a homemade hoisin dressing although I could only taste the oil and not much of the hoisin. I wouldn't recommend the salmon salad. I think in the future I'll stick to brunch instead. I still would come here for the ambiance. I miss the old menu...I think there were more selections of salads. read more

This is honestly a tough review for me to write because I love Tango. The only reason for the lower rating this time is entirely due to the service. My boyfriend and I come here regularly--about once a month--for the prix fixe dinner, and we always make reservations. Given how often we visit, I would hope there'd be at least some recognition or consistency in the experience. During this visit, we were seated and given menus and water, but unfortunately things went downhill from there. We waited about 10 minutes without anyone coming to take our order or check in. Eventually, we had to flag someone down just to order a charcuterie board. While it was a bit busy with a few tables ahead of us, those tables had already been helped and had their orders placed, while we were still sitting there with menus closed and no acknowledgment. I still love Tango, but after this experience, we may not be back for a while. I hope the service improves to match the quality of the food and overall experience I've come to expect. read more

The coffee...not sure if it's pressure-brewed, but it has the perfect crema on top. I had the fried rice/Portuguese sausage and a single egg. A little on the smaller side, bt it was enough to satisfy. The Florentine benedict was also great, with a creamy Hollandaise and the spiral-cut potatoes. Very crave-able. We saw that thy=ey have a prix fixe menu after 4 pm with a salad, snapper and dessert for less than $40. Sounds like something to try in the future. My friend and I have been wanting to try their brunch and we had a pleasant experience! We shared the crab hash Benedict and the Swedish pancakes. Both were yummy! I really liked the crab hash Benedict more since you don't see that too often at brunch spots. The crab hash was savory and I enjoyed the wedge or curly type of fries it came with! The pancakes were like your typical pancakes, good but nothing too special. The berry compote with the fresh whipped cream with it is what made it! I also got a Thai iced coffee to drink and it was a little on the sweeter side. We were worried that we weren't able to get a reservation for brunch on Saturday but luckily my friend came a bit earlier than me and we were able to get a table with no problem! I live close by and have walked by Tango too many times to count but finally it was 8am on a weekday and we unexpectedly found ourselves in need of breakfast, Tango is one of the few places actually open this early so off we went and I'm glad we did! We were the 3rd party to be seated when we walked in and service was very friendly, fast, and attentive. The ambiance is nice too. Clean and vaguely European. We shared a decaf coffee and a Florentine Benedict. Both items were excellent. I think they must brew their coffee with a mokapot since it comes out in individual servings with crema, it's super rich and delicious! The Benedict was great too, instead of the usual English muffin it had a generous portion of sauteed baby spinach with two perfectly poached eggs on squares of fresh thin foccacia with plenty of hollandaise sauce. This came with a big side of corkscrew shaped crispy seasoned fries. Overall it was a really pleasant and delicious meal. Their happy hour specials look like a great deal. There is a bench outside to wait or some guests sit at the outdoor tables if available. We went there for brunch this time and menu had a large variety with reasonable prices and they serve alcohol. Ordered one dish each, I got the braised beef loco moco that comes with fried rice and the smoked salmon eggs Benedict. The loco moco goes very well with the fried rice but the sauce from the braised beef overpowers the rice. Consistent neighborhood place that I've been going to for years. Love their breakfast and usually get the smoked salmon or the Swedish pancakes. Thinner and not as heavy as their American counterpart. The coffee here is also really good, thanks to an amazing and expensive coffee machine! It turns out rich, smooth and delicious coffee. That's the rub isn't it? You go out to have breakfast and the food is amazing but the coffee is subpar. Very happy this is not the case at Tango, plus refills are free! Also enjoy their $40, three course prefix menus that change every month for dinner. And they've got a really fabulous burger available during happy hour for $10! As the search for dinner with the girls starts the group came to agree on Tangö Contemporary Café in Kaka'ako/Ala Moana area as it's right across from South Shore Market and right beside Panya Bistro & Bakery and though they do have parking in the building I chose to park in South Shore Market and stroll right across. Walking up to the restaurant I think it's kinda fun to see a couple of tables under a covered patio type of setting though it is fronting a busy street it does have that private vibe as the inside of the restaurant is quite small and cozy with a simple modern decor. Brussel sprouts was seasoned with Salt & Vinegar was just delicious and fried perfectly to the crispiness that I love and not greasy which I could devour all day long and as we all decided on the "Smashed Burger & BBQ French Fries" which is topped with cartelized onion, lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese it's quite a generous portion for $10 and I was quite impressed. The staff were very kind as they let us come in while closed; they were getting ready for the lunch crowd. We met our server extraordinaire ISAAC! Tango is an intimate restaurant that may accommodate a group reservation with advanced notice. The only unusual seating was a bench chair combination with standard chairs. A bit awkward for our guests to scoot in on the bench chair Decor is minimalist and nice. Bar area is a bit overcrowded with liquor bottles. I guess Tango wants to show what type of liquor it has to offer. Overall ambiance is 4/5 stars. Now on to the Food and beverage! After I inquired about the menu selections, Isaac recommended the Thai coffee, Tango burger (Wagyu patty, cheddar cheese, butter lettuce, tomatoes, sweet onions, house sauce, toasted Brioche bun) with regular fries (not BBQ seasoning), together with a combination option of adding a half soup (sweet caramelized onion soup), and gelato for an additional $9. You also have the option to upgrade your dessert choice for a small up charge. The Tango burger was the star of the meal. Delicious, juicy, and savory. I ordered it medium and it was prepared more to the rare side. The fries were just that, no seasoning. Nothing to note, except the fries were not greasy. The burger came with a side of pickled vegetables ( I gave this to my sister). Isaac recommended the house made ketchup instead of regular ketchup. The house made ketchup is on the sweet side. The bun was soft and the sauce, fresh tomatoes, butter lettuce, and slivered onions, perfectly complimented the savory Wagyu burger. Tango Burger 5/5 stars. The Thai coffee was smooth, strong in coffee flavor and delicious. I had it hot. I was able to secure a free refill of iced regular coffee thereafter. 5/5 stars Dessert! I opted for an upgrade to the Lilikoi crème brûlée. An additional $2 was charged for the upgrade. It came with fresh berries. It had a crackling light sugar top with creamy smooth custard. The Lilikoi flavor was light and refreshing. I was so full from my meal, that I couldn't finish it. My Dad was the happy recipient of my dessert and he devoured it immediately! 4.5/5 stars I was offered a taste of the mushroom risotto with asparagus and chicken dish. It was delicious as well. There was a wine taste to this dish (although not in the description). 4/5 stars. Bathrooms are available in the back of the restaurant. Building Parking is validated for 2 1/2 hours. Bring your ticket with you to the restaurant for a validation sticker. Overall, a wonderful experience here. Definitely worth a repeat visit! read more

I went on a Tuesday at 2:00pm, so about half an hour before closing when things were not too busy. Staff is minimal, so if you can afford to get a softdrink or other second beverage, I would recommend doing so, as my water was not refilled until the server brought my dessert. I ordered the $9 addition that added half soup with the meal and a gelato after. The french onion soup is served warm with the bread fully submerged and soft. The chicken risotto is a lighter and more delicate dish in flavor, so I'm not the best for describing it as I'm partial to stronger flavors. The asparagus and little punches of cheese were what stood out to me. The chicken was minimally spiced, but the slightly sweet gravy paired well with the chicken and risotto. They had chocolate, vanilla, and cinnamon gelato as options, along with a pog sorbet. I got the chocolate. It was a little icy, but had good flavor and texture otherwise. First off, I have to say that the service at Tango Contemporary Café is impeccable, and I LOVED the coffee which they served here. I also LOVED the fact that this restaurant is doggie friendly, so if you have a furry loved one, you can bring 'em with you when you dine here. Just for that, I would automatically give them two thumbs up & 5 stars A.U.T.O.M.A.T.I.C.!!!! Came here with my friend for breakfast & my friend brought along Mia (see my pic - she's so cuuuuuute!!! ). The breakfast menu isn't extensive, but I must say that they had some pretty interesting menu items. After lookin' over the menu, I decided to get the Shredded Duck Confit Hash, and my friend ended up getting the Crab Hash Benedict. What can I say about my breakfast, honestly I was drinking endless amounts of coffee because it was just that good, and I kept looking at Mia, (but I so much miss my Makana). I think I liked the idea of the Shredded Duck Confit Hash, but honestly, I think since the duck meat was shredded, and the way the dish was executed, the duck meat was rather dry. We've walked past Tangö Contemporary Café more times than I can count -- it's practically around the corner -- but for whatever reason, it took us years to finally step inside. Expectations were low, mostly driven by familiarity and proximity. But it turns out Tangö isn't just "convenient," it's legitimately good We went for brunch and were pretty stunned at how dialed in everything was. Prices were almost suspiciously fair for the area, and portions landed in that sweet spot where you leave satisfied but not regretting your life choices. Just to give a sense of the range, for 4 people we ordered: the crab hash benedict was rich and well-balanced without being heavy, the tango burger was cooked right and not overly dressed, and the braised beef loco moco was the sleeper hit -- deeply savory, fork-tender beef on a bed of fried rice with a runny egg and just the right amount of gravy The only miss was the sweet bread french toast. It looked good on the plate but lacked contrast -- a little too soft, too one-note, and the berry compote couldn't carry it on its own Service was excellent, like they actually cared. I ordered the salmon benedict and it's salty but still good. The french toast was okay nothing too special, i tasted more of the crust than the actual bread. read more
