Morning glory or water spinach: lack of flavor, far from restaurant quality. 2. Garlic & black peppercorn ribs: meat didn't taste fresh and had a strong pork flavor, had to spit it out. 3. Tom yum soup tasted like instant soup from a powder mix, but at least it had some flavor. 4. Crab fried rice also lacked flavor like the 1st dish, barely any crab. More like a mushy egg fried rice. Once again, I Yelped my way to 'Tantawan' Thai Kitchen because 1 day, 'Cozy Thai Cuisine' was closed for their rest day of the week. I always consult Yelp whenever I need alternatives to a frequent cafe/restaurant as my go-to instead of googling~just in case, I don't like Google much only for Celebrity Gossip, oooops I went off topic. Back to Thai food~I was craving Thai style Coconut Yellow Curry with chicken rice for a week during Summer, for some odd reason, I found my way here since 'Cozy Thai Cuisine' was closed on a week day which I can't remember which weekday. This Thai restaurant provides reasonable portions of food at reasonable pricing even if due to World-Wide inflation. My Yellow Curry Coconut Chicken Rice turned out to be 2 meals large. I also ordered their Chicken Satay with peanut sauce: the chicken was grilled just right. Customer service was right on target: I actually called from home for a pick up. I didn't have to wait that long when I arrived at their requested time. Service is totally topnotch fast, I will return again. Now I have 2 Thai restaurants as my go-to. This restaurant is closer to us than Sanamluang so we may frequent this location more which days a lot as we have been going to Sanamluang for about 7 years. I had high hopes because I remember the Rosemead location being amazing, but something about the to-go experience didn't hit the same. The pineapple fried rice and glass noodles were really great! Would definitely come back and order these again. I found this place on Yelp but had never heard of it before but definitely feel like it's a pretty authentic Thai place. The tom yum soup was also pretty good, more on the sour side - can try to order if you don't mind. The price was pretty cheap for the portions too. Decided to come here because my usual Thai place was closed for repairs. Their Thai Boat noodle cakes with cold bloody slices of liver on top. Blood was still red and the liver was cool to the touch. I'm guessing they threw some cold or frozen slices on top thinking the hot soup would cook it. Well it didn't. Instead it was still bloody and cooled the soup. I requested that they use lean pork for their pork prik king (pork with green beans in a spicy sauce). I was told all meat is already prepped and this is not possible, but it's only a little fat. I decide to order it anyway. It came and about half the meat was fat. The green beans were cooked to the point their was no longer any bite. Imagine a little firmer than canned green beans. Omg I went there for take out when I found this hidden gem on Yelp! I love curry chicken & my husband loves papaya salad! We couldn't find a good place that served both until we found you guys! Omg it's the best curry I have ever had it bring backs so much memories of a young girl. Found a little gem.. with some tasty dishes, a very pleasant and welcoming elderly person greeted us.. This place was really good, and definitely authentic Thai food. Beware because one of their websites or listings actually sent us to a different Thai place in the same shopping center. The food was amazing and came out in a timely manner. We came on a rainy day so the nice quiet ambiance was nice, it was also early so not crowded. The service though was terrible, did not pay attention to us at all after we got our food and they just seemed angry to be there. Exceptional food. I've had the Tantawan pad thai, Rad Na Nue Sap, Nam Khao Todd, Pad See Eaw, at a minimum... and it's all very good. The tantawan special pad Thai and Nam khao are staple orders for me. They're quick with the orders and the to-go packaging is good -- containing the very-spillable food well. We ordered crispy pork with Chinese broccoli, and duck curry. After about 80% into eating, I bit into a spoiled tasting Chinese broccoli. Had told my partner I think some of the broccoli was bad, and she said she also bit into something that tasted spoiled but wasn't sure so she was waiting for me to notice too. After chatting about it, my partner and I decided to just pay for it regardless, and to just let them know (because it looked like they didn't receive enough business today). I have compassion for small business owners bc my mom is one too. We asked for the bill, and informed our server that we will pay for everything, but wanted to let her know about the spoiled veggies. But the chef insisted that the broccoli isn't spoiled and that they bought it fresh. So another guy came up to us to tell us we were wrong, and made us feel like we were attempting to get a free meal even after saying we intended to pay for the entire thing. That was upsetting. No apologies, or anything. They didn't even say they would double check their ingredients. We weren't trying to argue with them or trying to get a free meal. Just a friendly warning. Anyway, we told them maybe the batch purchased from their vendor was bad. There were only 4 cut up pieces that tasted spoiled. Could've been more, but we didn't finish the entire dish after that. Even if they offered a discount, we would've declined and insist on paying for the entire meal. Anyway, we won't be coming back after this, that's for sure. Duck curry was ok. A small place in West Covina that's tucked away in a small strip mall, Tantawan can be somewhat hard to find. The owners do make it a point to highlight the place with various bright Christmas lights. We came on a quiet evening on Monday night because we were feeling the Monday blues and didn't feel like cooking. Moreover, the place was open pretty late (so big plus there!) I ordered the Tantawan Pad Thai ($12.95) with chicken. The server was very nice and warm and took note of our peanut allergy--I understand that enjoying Southeast Asian food with a peanut allergy is like living on the edge. We also ordered the Drunken Noodles and asked that they make it "thai spicy"--and boy were we breathing fire! Just enough to for us to taste all the flavors and spice and to keep us asking for more. The food was horrible we ordered the pad ka prow crispy pork was so rubbery and extremely hard to chew. The drunken noodles we asked for medium and it was very spicy to the point where we couldn't even eat them. We called to let them know and they didn't want to do anything about it. The owner got super defensive and stated "this is ridiculous, we are the best Thai restaurant in the country." Every time I eat their food it makes me want to cry-- I keep trying to find something on their menu that doesn't live up to my expectations but I'm never disappointed!! Been here a couple of times and at both locations. Love their food. Even ordered to-go before. Their west Covina location is located inside the plaza off of Amar and Azusa. Plenty of parking. This time we ordered beef satay as our appetizer (very good), beef and broccoli (beef was a little dry), Tom kha with shrimp (very lemony) order medium if you like it spicy, and pad see ew pork. Oh and a Thai tea (so bad, but it's sooo good). I enjoyed the soup as it is coconut milk based rather than the Tom yum clear base. The beef and broccoli was ok.
