We should have known better since it was on a very busy shopping street. We stopped in for the happy hour drink special and decided to order a couple appetizers as well. The service was great and it was nice people watching but the food was awful. The oysters (pictured) were very slimy (we both have had oysters many times) and the horseradish was watery. We stopped at Tapelia for lunch with a group of 6 during our Miami Beach visit. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad taste in our mouth - literally and figuratively. The biggest issue? Our server told us sangria was $5/mug for happy hour, but we were charged $7.95 each. When I noticed this on the bill, I felt misled. The next day, I showed our receipt to the manager (who was standing outside recruiting customers), and he offered complimentary sangria to make up for it, which I appreciated. I also ordered Fettucini Pasta at this time and it tasted good. But why did the server lie in the first place? We ordered quite a bit: salad, empanadas, tortilla española, milanesa napolitana, and seafood paella for 3 ($89.95). The portions were generous, especially the paella, but nothing tasted particularly good. Everything was bland and plain - even the paella, which was the most expensive dish. Coming from San Francisco, I expected much better quality for these prices. To add insult to injury, they automatically tacked on 7% FL sales tax, 2% Miami Beach tax, AND a 20% service charge. After all this, the same server who lied about pricing asked us to look for him next time we visit. Really? I feel like their business practices are sketchy and theor mediocre food don't justify the price tag. The service itself was fine, and the staff was friendly enough. If you go, maybe stick to their more reasonably priced pasta dishes and confirm ALL prices upfront. I'd skip the paella entirely. read more

We each got margaritas & we shared the 24 oz prime ribeye steak that came with potatoes. I tried this place during my last night in Miami back on November 3. The food was amazing! The portions were plentiful. I had the seafood pasta along with their Mojitos. We wanted Spanish food and so we followed the lead of our Spanish friend. We had a friendly server who did not know Spanish (a surprise in Miami). The food was kind of inconsistent for me, but I really liked the pa amb tomàquet. I also loved the tortilla Española, and the sangria. The vibes were fantastic here (aside from the smokers. This is the issue with outdoor dining, is you run the risk of people with tobacco addictions polluting your air quality.) Paella gone wild in Miami Beach! Im very picky with Spanish food, as I usually travel to Spain every year. Our order was mainly paellas as we wanted to share with everyone in the table. We orderdered "paella a la marinera" and "paella mixta". The first one had plenty of langostines, but missed many shrimps. On the other hand, the mix paella offered a very dry chicken, meanwhile the meat was very scarce. Both of them presented very sticky and moist rice. They had flavor, but wasn't a remarkable one. There's a lot to choose from on Lincoln Road when it comes to food and I love that every restaurant has their menu posted outside at the hostess stand or in a window so you can bounce around and see all the options. It took some time for us to narrow it down but we ended up at Tapelia and it was a solid choice. We really liked the menu especially the idea of sharing a paella but we worried that we might not finish it and we could not leave with leftovers so we both settled on the Garlic Shrimp with Rice and Salad, me sauteed, friend had the fried. Loved this dish, very flavorful and just the right amount of serving. Service was fantastic as well. Waters arrived immediately and were refilled throughout dinner. Our reservation was for 7:30 arrive time 8:00 due to traffic in the area. Tables for 30 people were made very early in the day. Sadly, we waited for our tables approx. 15 minutes, finally, tables were ready, but there were a short 4 settings. We were assigned just 1 waitress.. she did have 2 helpers to assist her. Our drink orders were taken by 9, appetizers shortly after . We continued to wait....and wait and wait. Finally drinks came out, we asked for bread for the tables, as some of our party are diabetic. Approximately 10 meals SLOWLY CAME OUT.. MOST including my own are cold. My husbands pants were soiled by the steak juice runoff. My meal was probably lost somewhere in the kitchen.. it was still delivered cold. I could not even ask to return it since we are a large party. 3 additional meals were never delivered and our friends just canceled. This was a horrible meal.. horrible service horrible preparation for a The appetizers were the only...ONLY enjoyable portion of this meal. We were undecided where to eat as the area offered so many dining options. The friendly host standing outside was very inviting, and presented the menu in such an appetizing manner that swayed our decision. They have the option to dine outdoor or indoor and we decided dining in to get relief from the night heat and mosquitos. The restaurant was well lit from outside and inside. Plenty of seating. Disclosure here as I am an infection control nurse. The red seat cushions in our table were very soiled with stains. The wait staff did change them right away when I asked. Also the industrial size fan in the dining area, blowing towards patrons, were heavily coated with black dust. They really need to clean this regularly as customers are potentially exposed to some type of bacteria and/or fungus. Our waiter was accommodating and service was quick. Sangria was average and so was the Calamari. Ceviché palatable. Lots of shrimp and fish marinated perfectly. The fried whole Red Snapper was crispy on the outside, moist and cooked to perfection on the inside. Seasoned well. The Paella Negra was really good! Surprised to see a generous amount of mussels and squid in the dish. Perhaps the reason it was pricey. Then the big delay until the first course, even finished two glasses of wine before the first dish. But the first dish was excellent; a jamon iberico with cheese platter, but both had been warmed. I really liked Tapelia. Our server, Rafaela, was a sweetheart. Although the kitchen was slow, but I could see she wasn't at fault. The food was good. I had the Churrasco steak and it was juicy, full flavored, and excellent, with amazing Chimichurri sauce. The appitizers were great too. The drinks were a bit of a disappointment, but not terrible? I really enjoyed the Tiramisu. It was one of the better ones I've had. I reccomend this place. Miami has a pretty good spot here, although the drinks were a bit of a weak spot, overall this a definite must go in South Beach. read more
