Why do I continue giving them business? Because it's the only tapioca place in la jolla besides the one inside UCSD which is also the same store. Sometimes they make my drink right, and then sometimes, I don't even know what I'm drinking! I usually order almond milk tea. In the past when they made it, I could taste huge clumps of the almond flavor, as if they didn't mix it well enough, making it taste kinda spicy (i don't know why it's spicy, maybe because the almond concentration is so strong??). And then sometimes, there's not enough almond flavor. Today I ordered an almond milk tea, it tastes like regular milk tea. No almond flavor whatsoever. I'm pissed. MEH. They don't mind if you come here to study. Wifi is free. Outlets are available, but don't seem to fit plugs well; the plugs frequently fall out. Jasmine milk tea with egg pudding, Thai tea with boba, and red bean milk are good. However, the egg pudding isn't consistent. It's been way overcooked a couple times. I like the chicken wings better than the crispy chicken. Some bizarre things: (1) I got multiple orders of chicken wings and asked if I could get them in a box to go... They said no, even though they had a couple large stacks sitting there on the counter. (2) I asked for a large hot drink, and was told that it only comes in one size. I don't mind using the cold beverage cup for the hot beverage, so, what? It costs a different amount to heat up a drink? (3) Several times, the restroom was out of order. I don't come here often, or use the restroom every time, so that makes up a large percentage of the times I have checked. But I like coming here. read more

I love TapX's Snow Bubble drinks with boba. This is probably what sets is apart from other boba shops. There is something about that creamy, icy mixture that makes me want to keep coming back. It is not super sweet, but just right. My favorite is the taro snow bubble. As far as the other boba drinks, there is nothing that spectacular that sets them apart from other boba joints. I also like the location because it is close to where I live, so the convenience factor helps. I have never eaten food off their menu because my main goal is to hit up the boba, so I cannot attest to the taste. read more

Came here thanks to Yelp when we were looking for a place to hang out after watching at the AMC a few minutes away. This place is located in the same plaza as Vons. The place looks alright and plenty of seating on a Thursday night. I ordered a Peach Green Ice Tea with boba. It tasted refreshingly good. Everyone knows TapEx is whatevs with the boba. There are plenty of other places that serve better drinks. My 4 stars is basically for the convenience and the calamari. Their calamari is so good that my roomie and I ran there in a minute in order to get some before their kitchen closed. And after we had our first bite we knew we made the right choice. Not many other boba places serve calamari and if they do, it is certainly not as good as here's. So cheers to the calamari! I will be back :) read more

They do fairly run of the mill, average boba drinks. They also do a $2 crispy chicken, which would be a good deal except the stuff is so incredibly salty and greasy that it puts every fast food restaurant in America to shame. probably the only thing that's saving this place is its location: the fact that it's so close to ucsd. the boba is mediocre... sometimes, downright disgusting. and how do you mess up on milk tea? way too watery! the service is slow and unpleasant. in my opinion, it's definitely worth the gas&time to drive to convoy or mira mesa to get your boba fix, rather than come to tapex la jolla. their spicy chicken is an okay snack, but you don't go to tapex for chicken. read more

I learned about the TapEx here because I had work meetings with my friend/co-worker who lives near here. I'm a regular in TapEx in Convoy, and I must say I was surprised with the contrast between this TapEx and the Convoy one. First of all, it's a bit quieter than TapEx in Convoy. Almost everybody here are silent, studying or armed with their laptop. There's no rowdy high school/college students who seem like they're screaming when talking to each other. Maybe it's attributed to its location; near UCSD campus. The food and drinks are the same as TapEx in Convoy. Except that they have happy hour, which is cool, so I can have my popcorn chicken for half the price! Sorry for fans of the cookies n creme snow bubble, because apparently, they don't have that here, from the last time I've been there. There's also a lot of outlets there so it's amenable to laptop users. The parking is great too, compared to the parking nightmare in TapEx in Convoy. They're located in a big plaza with a grocery store so parking is not difficult. read more

The only reason I take off a star is because 1) parking is just ridiculous if you plan on going at night on a weekend... I always come here after school. Although sometimes it is very crowded. Only reason that I don't give it a 5 Star is because when they call out the drinks it's a bit confusing as to who's drink is who's on a busy day. A lot of people end up ordering a boba milk tea and there could be like 5 of those so it's kind of whoever is paying attention gets the drink, because some people are rude. But I love the service here, always fast. The same guy is always there when I go and I dropped my Thai tea on accident and they replaced it no fee or anything. They need more registers because their lines are always too long Call and place your order, you'll save a lot of time Foodwise, i always order their Tofu Combo with extra sauce. Come here only for happy hour (12pm-6pm M-F). The small crispy chicken snack will definitely satisfy your hunger for a cheap price. Can't complain too much at $1.79 for decent chicken. This is the best place for boba within a few mile radius (unless you are on the UCSD campus). I can't comment on the food but their boba drinks always hit the spot. I recommend the snow bubble in caramel, strawberry, strawberry and passion fruit, peach and passion fruit, or mango and passion fruit. Once I tried the passion fruit, I find myself adding it to another fruity flavor because it is the perfect combination of sweet and tart. Their almond milk tea is also yummy, but I am more of a frozen drink kind of girl I guess. The only reason I gave 4 not 5 starts is the employees are hit or miss. There is one girl that whenever I see her at the cash register I know I am going to be waiting a long time. At first I thought she was new and still getting comfortable with the register, but over this past year it is possible she has gotten slower. She will also stop what she is doing to gossip with the other employees when there is a line to order. It's so awkward it almost makes me laugh because there's like 5 people in line just staring at her chatting away about her friend's new apartment, the dress she just bought, etc. Everybody else is fast and efficient, so whatever. For students: I seem to see a lot of people studying here with laptops, etc. It seems like they have a lot of outlets and free wifi which is kinda neat. I really like their milk tea but not a big fan of their other blended drinks. I feel like their icys are too watered down. The happy hour is definitely a plus!
