Great Lunch Spot! Took some of our town friends for lunch at Roe. Their menu is perfect for a lighter or heavier lunch with many options including some non-seafood options. Their raw platters, really towers, are amazing! Their fish and chips, best around. Fish tacos, with freshly grilled fish, always a big hit! Our family favorite is their swiordfish tacos! They do great civktails and have a nice selection of lical.beers on tap! I ordered the fried crispy chicken sandwich with a side salad. One friend ordered the taco plate, one swordfidh and one swordfish. My ither friend ordered Griled Swordfish plate and it came with very tasty Brussel Sprouts! Very happy with our food! Our server was Keith and he waa excellent. Patient while my friends studied the menu to make decisions. I asked if swordfish was available today (isn't regularly on the menu) and took.the time to find out. Their Seafood Store next door often carries it! Both my friends ordered swirdfish! First off great service and great menu and great ambiance. It really is a cool space that brings the outdoors in and feels like your not sitting right on 2nd Street. Got a table easily and had nice view of the TV with the World Cup but not too distracted by the TV. Full bar is nice and had some white wine to go with the seafood. Ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and the scallops. Didn't care for the Sea Bass it had a very strong acidic aftertaste to me that night and the initial taste was too sweet I was hoping for more garlic and butter vibe didn't read the menu carefully. But the potatoes were good. The scallops with squid ink German style pasta was very good though. Tried the creme brulee for dessert and the top was a little overly burnt but the creme was good. I made reservations for 14 but a couple of people didn't show.. But ok WE had a good meal. The service was on point!! The food, Fresh and cooked to perfection! The Squid Ink pasta w shellfish was a hit. Also the grilled salmon dished, salmon was moist not dry like some places. All the food was good. Some took food home because we had appetizers that were also delish!! I had family in town for my grandson high school graduation. Everyone was satisfied and enjoyed the food. Had a long day at the beach and decided to go eat. Felt underdressed but I was hungry. We walked in but weren't acknowledged by the person at the front. It took another person to see us to get us seated. Waitress was nice and recommended her favorite item on the menu. Food was delicious. The only thing was the salmon was oily, but the way it was seasoned was delicious. Clam chowder bowl was big enough for 2 people to share. It was one of the best clam chowders I've had. Came here for happy hour on a Monday in my search to find a favorite Long Beach happy hour location! The restaurant is beautiful - we pass it all the time the and never had a chance to try it. We got their oysters (Baja), a mahi fish taco, a fried cod fish taco, rock fish ceviche tostada, a happy poke bowl, and a chicken bowl. The oysters were ok, I wish they got more creative with the mignonette. The fish taco fillings were great, but the tortilla they put it in was too dry (maybe old?), so they both broke apart while eating the tacos, creating a mess. We did like the ceviche tostada and the happy poke bowl, which were both light and flavorful. The chicken bowl was ok- very saucy, tender, but would have been better served with rice. Service was just ok, nothing too memorable, but food did come out fast. May return again, but will continue my search for happy hour spots in the LBC! read more

Roe has a new Thursday night special of Oysters and Bubbles. A dozen oysters on the half shell and a full size bottle of Italian Sparkling Wine for $35. My friends and I checked it out....and had a great experience! The Rockefeller Oysters and Peruvian Scallops were also terrific. The wait staff were excellent and made our time there fun! Roe is an upscale seafood restaurant and bar. Tables are nicely spaced, avoiding that overcrowded feeling. As the weather warms, the outdoor patio space will open. Food was good! I got the scallops and it was very tasty and I liked the risotto with it as well. Everyone really enjoyed their food. We were a party of 12 and they refused to do separate checks or even to split the check more than 3 ways so we assumed they would split the check by orders. However the waiter didn't tell us until the very end it wss by amount and not by what was ordered so we all had to calculate how much we ordered and dranked. It was chaotic and unnecessarily stressful for 12 people who have been eating and drinking for the last 1-2 hrs to sit there for 30 minutes and calculate who ordered what and how much that cost plus tax etc etc. they should have been able just to do separate checks or split it up by dishes ordered. read more

Perfect post-aquarium dinner spot Came here after spending the afternoon at the aquarium watching the adorable otters--such a great way to cap off the day. Sat at the bar and had excellent service from the bartender. She was just the right amount of attentive: there when you needed her, never hovering. We ordered the scallops, sashimi, and poisson cru to start, then fish and chips plus tacos with grilled cod on her recommendation. Everything was delicious, and we rounded it out with drinks and wine. 4 1/2 stars. Finally tried Roe after seeing this restaurant for years. I was visiting some friends who were staying at an Rental at Belmont Shores for the Memorial weekend. We went for a walk on Second Avenue, It was the dinner hour, and we saw this eatery which was busy, and the aroma of seafood lured us in. Our party consisted of 6 adults, one teen and and a 4-year-old. We were seated immediately by the friendly Maradee at a large comfy in the main dining room. The restaurant is casual and there's a large patio in the back, if you desire to eat outdoors. They offer alcahol and I opted for a Modero dark which was cold and thirst quenching. We started off with a few orders of steam mussels and clams which were perfect for the complimentary bread to be dunked in. I opted for the Black ink seafood linguine which had a variety of fish, mussels, clams, shrimp and calamari. I was impressed with the flavor. I also tasted would recommend the fish and chips which was a generous portion of cod and fries that was simplistic - yet so yummy. Happy hour dinner on a Monday with hubby on our first week of a month visit to Long Beach. OK we are officially old now, having dinner at 330pm! We were almost their only patrons, but it gave us a chance to enjoy the light and bright dining room. Service was very quick and efficient. Husband ordered a Pacifico pint for $5 and I got a spicy Paloma for $10. It was a pretty cocktail and definitely had a nice spice to it. We ordered a variety of appetizers for our meal, starting with the shrimp cocktail and two fish tacos. Served on ice, three plump shrimp came with traditional red cocktail sauce. The tacos were roe style sauce, grilled fish with cabbage and pico. In blue corn tortillas, these were really good filling tacos. My side was to be shrimp fried rice, a small dish, but it came out covered in a gloppy sauce I did not enjoy. Next time I will order the sauce on the side. Husband wanted to try the happy hour fish and chips. It was spectacular, with huge meaty pieces of battered fish and skinny skin on fried potatoes. It came with roe sauce and tartar, neither of which he really used because the dish was good solo. He also ordered the crunchy roll bow, which is like a deconstructed shrimp tempura crunch roll with two fried shrimp on top of rice, warm krab and sauce, a sheet of nori and some cucumber. Great concept but also a little gloppy. So a mixed bag here of winners and losers. Our server brought the bill but we did not take home either of the rice leftovers, drowned in sauce. Nice quiet place to have dinner with friends or family. We went on a weekday for dinner and had a good experience. The waitstaff is pretty attentive and make very helpful recommendations. My friend got the sesame salmon. She really liked the vegetables that it came with, and she said the sauce was very light. It's been over 5 years since I was last here. Then it was for weekend brunch as today was for lunch. Same same. It was just the start of lunch as it was still pretty quiet. And I believe there's an outdoor back patio. Lunch menu still was quite impressive with their seafood choices. We started off with a mimosas and beer. Didn't see the mimosas flight. Wondering if it's only for the weekend. Starters, we went with the pole cevichos. Their take on a poke and ceviche nachos which was excellent. The pairing with all the sauces and jalapeños mixed with the seafood was really good. Highly recommend this dish. Portion wise it's quite big for sharing, could also be a meal. The mains, went with the shrimp po boy and fish and chips. Both were excellent. Fish and chips, perfectly battered. Not overly as that can ruin the whole fish. It was flaky and juicy. The shrimp po boy, nice size sandwich in the baguette. Served with pickle chips, tomato and a little lettuce. The sauce accompanied, an aioli I believe was great. Both were served with a hefty portion of fries. Service was excellent, from checking in to being seated and taken care off. Friendly staff which is a plus. The meal was great and filling. Clam chowder was amazing and is now on my top 3 list in southern Cali. It is very different -for all the right reasons- from typical recipe restaurants feature. Poisson cru is nice small but great for someone with a small appetite and requires the big on flavor. My son ordered the Squid ink seafood linguine. The subtle flavors of the piquillo, mushrooms and sauce made this dish tasty. Our server Rae was great . Her service rhythm was right on time! You can dress up or dress casual because Roe welcomes you in. Just don't wear your pjs. The decor is understated intrigue. Every detail is a force to be reckoned with. First time here and found out they recently changed their hours from 11 am to 11:30 am. They no longer have brunch on Saturdays, only on Sundays. That was a bummer cuz we wanted to order a few brunch menu items and the mimosa would've been only $5. We ordered the Fish & Chips, Mahi Fish Tacos Plate, and Clam Chowder Soup. Everything tasted delicious and very filling. Our favorite was the fish and chips. It was made perfectly. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and we got our food very quick. There's meter parking on the streets, no free parking in this area of Long Beach. It's located near Bay Shore Ave. where you can see yachts and small boats in Bayshore Beach. The restaurant was super cute and pretty inside. We got seated right away on a Thursday evening. The server was attentive and helpful. Started off with 1/2 dz oysters, Baja and pacific. Those were really good, I liked the Baja more. My friend and I decided to split food. We shared the clam chowder which was good but a little salty (they offered us some bread to go with it. ) I got the grilled mahi with double veggies. The fish lacked flavor as did the sauce it was in but I added lemon to it and finished it. My friend got the seafood salad and it was okay, nothing too spectacular. Third Time at Roe and it's been a surprise every time I arrive. Half of bottles on Wednesdays is not the value they make it sound. But the Martini Mondays, live music, beautiful bar, mural and elegant outdoor seating is worth it every time. The staff have always been pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu items. Lastly I want to point out though I've been here 3 times I've never had the same thing and there's been a chef's kiss experience every time! So how did it taste? - Rock Fisk Ceviche - OMG when I say this was way better than I expected! Not only was it carefully crafted, properly chilled, it was so much ceviche that you didn't feel cheated at all. - Clam Chowder Cup - I personally did not try the clam chowder but my mother gave it raving reviews and was thankful she god the cup and not the bowl. Most decedent places can feel over priced with small portions but another great value with the flavor to match. - Sesame Seed Crusted Scottish Salmon - Man that was a mouthful LOL. I'm a big fan of sesame seeds and a huge fan of leaks and bok choy. My only critique is that my salmon was over cooked but the beautiful broth added textures and much needed moisture. Good spot along the 2nd St. strip for dinner. The menu has a range of items at various price points, which I appreciated. I shared a main course (fish dish) and had a clam chowder. We both got drinks. Dinner for two came out to be around $100.00. Service was friendly. Although I made reservations for a Friday night, I feel if I had just walked in, they would have been able to accommodate me. I feel our server checked in on us but not to the point where dinner conversation was interrupted. Water was refilled at the right intervals. Atmosphere is chatty with so many tables packed together, but not to the point where we felt it difficult to have our own dinner conversation. I came here specifically because Roe participates in the Dining Rewards Program, whereby I can earn airline miles in addition to the credit card points I earn by paying with credit card. So props to Roe for that. In my mind, it's a reason that will encourage me to continue to pick it over other restaurants in the area that don't. The ambience is really nice and the environment feels comfortable. This would be a perfect spot to bring a date at night. My waiter, Vinny, was extremely friendly and helpful. He helped me choose a great item off the menu and made the experience even better. The restaurant is very clean, and you also have the beach just down the street which adds to the overall vibe. Also the manager named Ray she was extremely nice as well, her customer service is excellent. Amber who is the co manager was also extremely nice to me, her service was beyond wonderful. Worst poke bowl ever. There's only one option, and normally I like tuna... But I kept having to spit out little parts. I don't think it was sliced right. The eggs were too salty, so I gave mine away. The seaweed was okay, but too much. Just disappointing, especially for $23. Otherwise you sit outside and it's trafficy, so enjoy the disgusting gas fumes from the cars driving by. Fresh, high quality seafood with great happy hour prices! Food: We love a good happy hour deal. I got the half dozen oysters ($3 per) and the ceviche tostada (I think $7). You can taste the quality and freshness of the fish. It was a good sized portion. Boyfriend got a hazy IPA & the shrimp po boy (not on happy hour). The regular price absolutely matches the quality of food. Service & ambiance: at first, we walked into the fish market which is to the right of the actual restaurant. You can get food to go and fresh seafood there. The cashier was super cool & walked us out to the restaurant. We sat on the patio, which had clear barriers so you don't get the windy breezes and car wind while eating. It was covered as well. Inside, the decor was cute and had live trees, like an outdoor garden feel. Full bar. our waitress was so prompt and had great pairing suggestions! Parking: this is second street, so it can get quite busy. Meter street parking or there are public lots around the block. This is a great spot for happy hour appetizers and a drink. Roe has some definite highlights and a nice atmosphere, but my experience was a bit mixed. The service was decent, and a few dishes really stood out....the fish and chips were solid, and the poisson cru was excellent (I'd recommend it as a must try). The scallops were also well prepared, though they lacked the deep umami flavor I was hoping for. The main reason for the 3 star rating was the shrimp cocktail. Unfortunately, about half of the shrimp weren't fully deveined, and the other half had an off taste. It's not a dish I would recommend here, which was disappointing given the otherwise fresh seafood. Overall, there are some bright spots on the menu worth coming for especially the poisson cru but there's room for improvement in execution and consistency. read more

Had a great dinner at Roe. We got some happy hour starters. Enjoyed some really tender and flavorful calamari fries along with some oysters that came with a nice red wine migonette sauce. I enjoyed the bowl of Fishermans Stew that was loaded with fish, mussels, clams and shrimp. My BFF had a great plate of Pacific Sea Bass that was paired a tasty potato pave.
