Tony Stark, the man behind the suit, was onto something when he offhandedly riffed off that quote to Captain America. Shawarma is indeed amazing, but only when done right. Luckily, new kid on the block Tarme Mediterranean Grill does shawarma right--not to mention everything else right. Let me explain. DESIGN -- Tarme has a really distinct and professional design that clearly had some thought behind it. The logo is clean and crisp; the sign pops out to you when you're driving by in busy Glendale. The interior of the restaurant is very open and welcoming, directing you to the front counter to order and giving diners nice privacy along with tons of different seating options (booths, tables, a private room, an enclave). The place really seems to pride itself on its aesthetic, making it perfect for the younger crowd, but at the same time it isn't intimidating or pretentious--making it perfect for any age. I feel like Tarme's atmosphere is as if Chipotle actually felt welcoming inside. SERVICE -- There are tons of employees here working behind the counter! We got help right away, which was awesome since that doesn't always happen at these kind of restaurants. The ordering process was simple; there are tons of TV menus, and then we got a little table number to bring to our seats. Amazingly, the food came out in seriously like 5 minutes--pretty crazy fast. That reminds me, let's talk about... FOOD -- My favorite part. We tried a bunch of things, so I'm gonna dedicate a portion to each of them. 1. BEEF SHAWARMA PLATE: TONS of beef shawarma literally cut in front of eyes from the open kitchen, rice, pita, hummus, fatoush salad, a pepperoncini, and some pickled turnip. Loved every aspect of it; felt flavorful yet still healthy and light with the salad. I loved the pepperoncini and turnip for giving the plate a nice, contrasting bite. Also was a huge portion and definitely could be split into two meals. 2. CHICKEN SHAWARMA WRAP: Marinated broiled chicken, tomatoes, fries, and some garlic spread all in a nice wrap. The wrap was an awesome texture and honestly made the wrap; it was crisp on the outside and gave nice textural contrast to the softer inside; way too often have I gotten some pretty soft and soggy outer layers of wraps that ruined the whole thing, but not this time. I thought this was pretty imaginative; it almost kind of was like a California burrito with the fries inside. Definitely worth it for the price. 3. SPICY FETA FRIES: Oh man, soooo good. I feel like this is if hangover food was perfect. We're talking crispy fries with some spicy orange sauce (not sure what it was, but it was tasty), feta cheese, and tomatoes. I literally could just order this and be happy, because it really was satisfying. Not sure how to describe it other than GOTRYIT. 4. KALE JUICE: I was extremely skeptical because I really don't like vegetable juices at all, but I did read some good things about it and went for it. Well, lemme tell you, I'm super stoked I did. I literally think this is one of the most underrated things here; the kale juice was actually pretty sweet but not too sweet! It really seems like it'd fit in at a boba shop or something. It felt super fresh and I was actually super sad when I ran out...Almost was gonna get another, but next time, next time. :) PARKING -- They have their own dedicated and free lot! Was fearing street parking, but it was supremely easy. All in all, I have to say I was actually quite impressed with Tarme. It definitely is a solid addition to Glendale, and while I'm not in the area too often, I have to say that I'll be back whenever I go to The Americana at Brand or the Glendale Galleria which is super close by. The restaurant is very clean and there are plenty of different seating options. From tables to high chairs, and all the way to booths. Their food was delicious. Took awhile for it to come out but by the time I received it, I didn't mind at all because it was fresh. I especially loved their humus. I will definitely be back. Eating at Tarme is such an amazing break from the normal, average restaurant, Whether you are picking up food to go or dining in, the people working at Tarme seem to be very hospitable. My wife and I have eaten there a few times and we were and continue to be impressed by the amount of flavor that is in everything ordered. The chicken luleh wrap has great flavor and something healthy, and a favorite of ours as the seasoning they use in the Luleh is much tastier then many of your common kabobs that you find around. It would be nice to have a side salad with, or a healthy something to go with, But still a great product. The chicken luleh plate is outstanding! The amount of salad they put with it is great and brings a lot of flavor too. I like it because it is almost two meals and also not weighed down with an over abundance of rice. The portions are great and this helps to take in the many flavors and it does not make you feel like going into a food coma from eating too heavy. The kale drink is the best. When you hear the word kale drink, refreshing is not the first word that would come to your mind, This drink will change that preconceived thought. Must have! I tried this place out for the first time today. I took my mother with me and we ordered the salmon plate. Massis has way better portions and the fish came to us burned! There was black char on over half the salmon. He also charged more for taboulé-I was replacing Shiraz salad which somehow had vinegar on it!?! It's not supposed to!
