It is not often that the name of a restaurant so accurately reflects the product and experience a customer is getting. Turns out Tasty Pizza, the restaurant, sells some pretty tasty pizza! Tasty Pizza is located off of 55th and Leavenworth, near the Midtown area. The corner restaurant looks like a little red house, covered in vines and plants. There about six or seven tables inside and a few tables outside, but it's a pretty small space. Many know this joint as "Tasty Pastry," but they recently change their name to Tasty Pizza. Probably more fitting for their most popular menu item, pizza! They have a simple menu when you walk in the restaurant, with sixteen (!!) pizza options, a salad, a sandwich, and a few desserts in a fridge to the right. When you enter, you stand by the menu, ponder what pizzas look the best, take too long to order....oh wait! Is that just me?!? Anyways - you order at the counter, then wait for your pizza to be called. There's a giant block of parmesan sitting on the counter, so you can hand-shave the toppings! Who doesn't love giant blocks of cheese?! The pizzas took about 15-20 minutes, which was fine for a casual lunch. If you're in a hurry, this may not be the best spot for you! My friend got the Buffalo Chicken pizza, topped with smoked gouda, chicken, buffalo sauce, and mozzarella. He also had a pesto bruschetta, topped with artichokes, chicken, tomatoes, and other bruschetta-y things. My other friend had the Veggie, featuring a tomato sauce base, with mozzarella, mushrooms, black olives, tomato, spinach, and onions. Let's talk about that PIZZA. I had the Mediterranean, which was a goat cheese base, topped with red peppers, artichokes, black olives, spinach, and capers. The crust was made of white flour, and was very crispy on the bottom. I'm not a crust kinda gal, but I ate this crust up! Through eating this pizza, I did discover that i'm not a huge fan of artichokes, and combined with the capers and olives, it was a little to much salt for me. But! This was a filling and satisfying pizza with fresh ingredients for 5$. Literally, what could be better than that? I really enjoyed this spot! This is a wonderful, cheap, homey restaurant, where people around all parts of town gather for some amazing, simple food. Everyone should go visit Tasty Pizza. They have a variety of options at impossible-to-beat prices. The staff is very kind and patient, and they clearly care about their customers, they even offer free coffee, free water bottles, and an abundance of ranch for y'all Midwesterners who like it with their pizza! They have options for different types of meat eaters, vegetarians, and even use locally sourced cheese from Nebraska farms. My only complaint is their odd hours. Tasty Pizza is open Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Sat 10AM-2PM, and Fridays 10AM-8PM. Its kind of odd and hard to keep track of. And! May I repeat! None of these pizzas are over 5$!!!!! Their Cheese pizza is (and i'm not joking) $2.75! If you're hungry and want to support local businesses, this is the spot for you. The pizza is excellent and every other review will tell you that-- but I wanted to write about something else. I accidentally left my work laptop + backpack in the restaurant right before close on a Saturday night. I was of course worried as I couldn't know for sure if I had left it there or had forgotten it elsewhere.. but I went to Facebook and messaged the business right away, hoping someone could let me know. They got back to me that night and were willing to meet me in the morning so I could come and pick up my laptop. I can't thank the staff enough for keeping it safe and I can't thank the owner enough for being willing to come in on a Sunday (they are not open on Sunday) to open their doors and let me get my computer. Quite possibly my favorite pizza place in town. Local neighborhood pizza joint. Pies are about 5" in diameter. Perfect single size portions. Price ranges from 4-6$. Extremely affordable. Ingredients are fresh. Red sauce is bright. The crust was thin. Not much rise to the edges but I realize that's nitpicking. Service is amazing. Everyone was so nice and professional. Off the bat there's a sign that urges no tipping which means I assume the owners pay a living wage. It was packed but I got my food quickly and could easily find a place to sit. Also bought a few cookies. At .25 each how can you resist. They were pecan cookies that was basically a butter cookie plus nuts. Basic, simple, sweet. Once you pay you grab the cookies yourself at the counter. When you get your pizza they have parm you shred yourself at the counter. Also...ranch! Super midwest, serve yourself ranch station. The water service is at the far end of the restaurant. Don't be like me and accidentally pour yourself some ice tea, which is located right next to the cashier. Bacon gouda was savory. Not heavily loaded with cheese. Crispy, crispy yet not burnt bacon. This pizza delivered everything it promised. Margarita was killer. Tons of fresh basil. Bright sauce balanced the fresh mozzarella. You can pay $14 at an upscale pizza place or you can come to Tasty and get the exact same thing for $4. It's just smart to eat here, period. I can't say enough about this place. It's cute. I popped in to get some pizza to take home to my mom, who didn't get to join us on our Omaha trip. I absolutely have to come back again and try more of their pizzas because I'm super impressed by the quality and flavor of what we got, not to mention how well it held up after the drive home. This place is a well-oiled pizza-making machine, it's awesome to see them in action (which you can do while you wait for your pizzas, it's right there behind the counter and very visible). Super busy but we got ours in less than the 20 minutes quoted as "a wait," which is how long I'd expect a pizza to take without a dozen orders already ahead of us. And you really can't beat that price point! So cheap and fast and *good* that I'm not sure how they haven't taken over the Midwest already. Space is really tight in here- less of a problem in these times, but we did have to do some awkward shuffling inside and outside while people took their turns ordering. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile but am rarely in this area, so when I found myself near here for an appointment, I decided to order take-out before I headed back to work. I called ahead and ordered the 8 inch Bacon Gouda Pizza and was told it would be ready in about 10 minutes. Parking is a bit of a nightmare. They have about 6 places to park and then everyone else just spills over into street parking, which isn't the greatest and reaches way up the street. Once I parked and made it inside, I was quickly greeted by the very friendly women at the cash register who quickly retrieved my order. I couldn't resist the temptation of the pastry counter, so I also ordered a huge slice of raspberry torte. My order for the pizza and the torte was just over $8, which was extremely reasonable. I took my order to-go, but the seating area looked extremely cozy. The restaurant, itself, isn't very big, but has a very nice "homey" feel to it. They also had a few tables outside that looked like it would be an awesome place to grab lunch on a nice day. The pizza was amazing! I think this is probably the best pizza I have had in Omaha next to Pitch. There was a ton of bacon on it and the gouda was delicious and creamy. There was also an onion jam that added a great level of flavor to the pizza. The raspberry torte is probably one of the best pastries I have had. It had about 100 different layers and each one was incredibly complex. It was flaky and the raspberry filling was incredibly flavorful and decadent. They have soup options every day that sound very interesting. On the day I was in it was a cold cucumber soup. I have already recommended this place to several people and will definitely be making an effort to return here again. Wow! What a great find! Heard about Tasty Pizza in USA Today's best cheap eats in each state and had to try it. I've been driving by Tasty Pizza for a long time, but never stopped in. We ordered at the counter right away (no tipping written very clearly) and took our seat. Our food was up quickly and I had ordered wrong and didn't read the menu clearly. Totally my fault. I didn't even say anything and they caught my vibe and asked if anything was wrong. I explained and was just going to buy another pizza as they are so inexpensive. They just made me what I wanted and insisted. When I got my pizza (meatballs) it was delicious. You get to shave your own parmesan off the block to your liking. I've always been a person who is massively in love with Orsi's Pizza, but dang, I got to say that Tasty Pizza captured my attention! First of all, I love their Margherita pizza. They put a lot of Basil leaves on it, which vamps up the flavor and their sauce has a unique sweetness to it. Sorry Via Farina, next time I want a Margherita pizza, I'm going to Tasty! I also tried their small sized Meatball pizza. Yum! The spices in the meatballs blend well with the sweet sauce and make it memorable! This week I am hooked on their Pesto pizza, which has pesto, chicken, artichoke, and tomatoes on it. The good thing about this place is the price. If you don't have a lot of dough in your pocket, just roll on into Tasty Pizza, because their small pizzas run about 6 dollars and they don't skimp on toppings. It will definitely fill you up! I also like their dough/crust proportions because the middle of the pizza is thinner with lots of ingredients, while the outside crust is bubbly and thick, but not overly chewy. Tasty is doing both dine-in and take out as of 10/30. I have always LOVED the pizza here, but was very disappointed in their COVID protocols. Not only were there employees out of compliance with the local mask mandate, there was no signage or attempts to encourage masks among customers. There was also no way to remain socially distanced in line, whether you were picking up takeout or ordering to dine in. I was so excited for this new location, but when opening in the middle of a pandemic, these standard protocols throughout Douglas County should be implemented. They had several types of soup that day, and the owner was quite willing to let me sample them. They are all homemade, as everything in their restaurant is. I had a hard time deciding what to get, so decided on a cup of soup and an individual margherita pizza. Both were very good and so reasonably priced! Even the pizza crust is homemade! I'd driven past this place on Leavenworth dozens of times. A friend that lives in the neighborhood told me it's fantastic, so we tried it. He was right. An 8" pizza for about $5 is such a great deal. The sourdough crusts are light, crisp and chewy. The toppings are fresh and delicious. We called in a carry out order and had to jump back the pickup time by 10 minutes because we couldn't get there that fast. Granted, this was about 4:45pm. Soon after, this place is jumping, and you may encounter a busy signal. Keep trying! it's worth it. Some may criticize the smallish menu, or the no-substitutions rule. I won't. They don't overreach, and what they do, they do very well. They crank out delicious pizza at an exceedingly low price. We loved the pesto artichoke pizza, and the margherita. McKenna Macarena packs a punch, as does their spicy sausage. The mushroom rosemary is very good as well. He enjoys the buffalo chicken. I have tried Margherita, cheese, and spinach feta. I would like to try others, but I just can't stay away from that spinach feta! The cheese was stringy and the ingredients (artichoke, pesto, cheese, chicken and bruschetta) went perfectly well together. I would definitely come back and recommend Tasty Pizza to my friends. My only suggestions would be to stay open about one hour later. I would also suggest being more welcoming and friendly. Easily the best pizza in Omaha. While I haven't had every pizza on the menu (yet), every one that I have had has been so good that I get stuck on that one for a few weeks before I'm ready to try a new one. I highly recommend the goat cheese and beet - it's a combination I had never tried before and I was pleasantly surprised - it's delicious and reheats great for breakfast. Definitely try the fresh shredded parmesan - I can never go back to the packets after this! It's especially fantastic on the pepperoni (which I get often).
