Tasty Pot has changed to malatang hot pot style. You put all the ingredients you want in a big bowl and then they'll charge you by the pound. Price was reasonable at 13.99/lb. We came in around 5:30 pm on a weekend. A lot of the ingredients were in low supply and the veggies didn't look fresh. We had to ask them to refill the beef because the container was completely empty. When we went to get our sauces, they had a limited selection compared to other hot pot/malatang places. They didn't have any sesame sauce available then, even though there was a label for it. The soup bases were alright. I have always come to Tasty Pot after my other favorite hot pot joint closed. It felt like not long ago they rebranded, and this summer they were closed for construction again. Once they reopened, they changed their business model. Now you can choose your own soup base and ingredients, and they charge you by the weight of the food. Then they cook it for you and bring it to your table. The ambience hasn't changed much except that they now have stations where you can choose your ingredients. There are lots of options, and they have some pre-made items as well. I also like that they offer complimentary green tea. To me, that's not how I prefer my hot pot, as I like having a fire to keep my food warm. However, it's also nice to be able to choose exactly what you want in your hot pot. read more

Love the rebranding! They're now called Malatang (but not part of any chain) and have a promo running for $3 off every bowl. The setup is completely revamped. Instead of their previous model with prepared bowls akin to Jazz Cat or Boiling Point, they're now pay per pound, i believe $12.99. Same concept as others (pay by weight), but the variety of items, quality, and broth are all authentic and deelish. You help yourself, weigh and pay at the front, then pick a table to wait while your order is being prepared. I ordered the original Szechuan #1 broth and was not disappointed; it was packed with all the Szechuan flavor without needing to spend 10 minutes picking out heaps of peppercorns and red chili flakes. Once I got to my seat, my bowl was brought out in no time: a pretty brass pot with two side handles and magically cool to the touch. Sauce bar is also self-serve and had everything you need. Lunch also comes with a complimentary green tea drink without the excessive punch of caffeine and sugar it previously had. The selection of hot pot items is awesome. They have all the standard stuff you'd expect: several different kinds of veggies, meats, seafood, fish balls, and tofus but also lots of not-so-common items i was excited about like tendon (which boiled down really soft and translucent), clear potato noodles, purple yam noodles, beef balls with yummy beef filling, fish balls with egg in the middle (but egg yolk not fish egg, which was still tasty), crawfish, and mussels. The only downside was that i do miss the old staff as every one of the members were polite and attentive. Moving forward, customers will likely mostly be on their own. Broth is a bit light, in my opinion, on the bland side. Nothing really stood out to me. Overall service was very good and attentive, which made up the average tasting food. We are hot pot professionals so we knew how many items were going to weight how much. I got it down to choosing the sides and it weight exactly 1.2lb exactly. I have recent been really wanting to eat malatang and was curious to try the rebrand of tasty pot since it's near my house. So I stopped by tonight to get takeout. 5/5 cleanliness the stations were thoughtfully laid out and organized. However, I wish there were more options in the middle section. The stations were all very clean and we're constantly being restocked. 4/5 soup I got the tom yum soup base which was so good. The reason why I chose to come here over the other malatang places because there was a good variety of bases. 3/5 takeout service my experience would have definitely been different if I dined in. Not until after I paid, I asked the staff where is the sauce bar. Only to be told that they are not available for takeout, which is one of my favorite parts of eating malatang . Came here before the new management. Didn't see much difference in the decor besides a divider in the middle of the restaurant. Food was good. We like this place more than Boiling Point and we've been going to Boiling Point when they first open over a decade ago in Monterey Park. We got the 泰式酸辣鍋（午) or Thai Flavor Hot Soup (L) for $23.25 - $3.49 discount. The 沙茶牛肉鍋（午) or Beef Hot Soup (L) was $18.85 - $2.83 discount. 香菜羊肉鍋（午） or Lamb Hot Soup (L) was also $18.85 - $2.83 discount. We like the tangy flavor from the Thai Flavor Hot Pot. The Thai Flavor Hot Pot was like twice the size of the regular size hot pot. The soups from the beef and lamp hot pot tasted the same. We enjoyed the green or black tea that came with the lunch. The waitress was nice enough to give everyone at the table a free drink despite us only ordering three hot pots. We did not like the service we received. Took a while for the food to come out. We added on a bowl of rice in the middle of our meal and it took about 10 minutes for it to come out. Let me first start off by saying that I loved Tasty Pot! My first experience of Tasty Pot was in the Bay. And off the bat, I liked them better than Boiling Point because I liked their sauces better. Japanese miso was my favorite!! From that first time, I came back home to SoCal wishing that they would open one closer to me down here. So I was so glad when they opened one in Rancho Cucamonga.. until they discontinued my Japanese miso :'( And then they opened one in Alhambra and I was once again elated! I would come here whenever I was craving a warm and comforting meal, and it always hit the spot. Last week, I got a text saying Tasty Pot Alhambra changed to Malatang style and offered a discount. I was surprised, but curious as to how the change was going to be so I decided to come in and try. (Side note: I have had Malatang before at YGF and Zhangliang so that style of hot pot is not new to me. I was more concerned about the taste and flavors that Tasty Pot would offer) And...yeah..I'm disappointed. I chose my items just like I would at the other Malatang places that I've been to. They did have a good variety of options and the food was fresh. There's eight broth options to choose from, which is more than at the other places. I went with my usual bone broth(mild- bc I like spicy, but I can't have a lot of chili oil so I add chilies from the sauce bar into my broth after). I didn't have to wait too long for my pot to come out. During the wait time, I made my dipping sauce and got toppings. By the time I sat back down, it was only a couple more minutes before they brought out my food. The bone broth was very light, verging on bland. Compared to the other Malatang places, it didn't have the same depth of flavor so I had to add more seasoning. I wish that they had miso bone broth (like they used for the Japanese miso hot pot) as an option. Also, unlike the other style that Tasty Pot used to be, this bowl didn't stay hot the whole time (bc it didn't have the little fire under it -which I liked). All in all, I prefer the Tasty Pot from before. I do normally like Malatang too, but not from here. Other things: - They did remodel the place but it's not too different from before. Biggest change is that they added the bar for the food options. - Service was good. I was greeted right away. And the server took time to explain to me that they've changed the way they do their hot pots and what to do, in case I didn't know. - They do offer some premade bowls that are based off of their previous menu in the first section of the food bar. After adding our ingredients to our bowls, we can choose a soup base. We got the golden spicy, tomato, and bone broth i think it's called. My favorite was the golden but all the soups were really good. Super rich and the ingredients soaked up the flavor well. Honestly I feel like I like the flavor of these soups better than the original tasty pot but not sure since I haven't been in a while. They had the usual malatang sauces you can make your own blend. My parents are not big fans of seafood so choosing something was a little tough for them but we got two beef soups, the miso soup, several sides. I have one kid that loves ramen and two who are slightly pickier, so they had dumplings, fries and popcorn chicken. Flavor was 10/10, exceptional. We throughly enjoyed the different textures and all of the things that were in our different soups. I ordered a side of ramen bc my son likes udon and there was maybe 6 udon noodles in the soup we shared, lol. I will say that although the soups look large, the soup base is not enough for two people. I had to burry the ramen so it could cook. Taro, Thai and sweet milk bobas were delicious, highly recommend! Service was great as well. Staff was attentive, although plenty of staff, they do not stop to the table too often to ask if you need anything, which I guess could either bother you or not. As a mom, I like when the service staff asks if we need anything, we generally do! Please use caution when ordering off their online menu, which is encouraged as you sit inside the restaurant. Most of their plates contain peanuts. While their physical menu is clear on this, online menu is less evident. My brother's girlfriend is highly allergic and missed the tiny peanut symbol on the online app when ordering the beef soup. About 10 minutes into her meal, she was rushed off to the hospital. Thank God she carries an epi-pen. She is okay! Staff was notified. Staff was kind enough to remove their soup from our bill, since they had to leave from the restaurant. I decided to have a late lunch here on a weekday and when I walked in almost every table was still dirty/not cleaned and they had plenty of seating available, but I had to wait for a table to be cleaned before sitting down. When the waitress sprayed the table to clean, the cleaning spray got all over me and I was kind of annoyed but I let it go. I have been here before, I remember not liking it, but because it's so convenient to get to, I tried it out again. They do have lunch specials but the price varies between pots and you have an option of green/black tea. I ordered the regular beef pot with green tea. They were out of green tea so I was only given black tea which was fine. Ordering is done online and the food was brought quickly. They have sauces to use but nothing special. Boiling point is known for their sauces and I really havent had anything else that can top that. The broth was so-so in flavor, nothing to rave about it was kind of bland. I would say some of the ingredients are slighty better quality (for example I liked the beef pieces they gave) but everything else like fishballs/meatballs/tofu etc are standard everywhere. I dont think they give enough ingredients, I find myself trying to look for more items. This place can get pretty pricy if you try to add more items or order any appetizers. As an overall dish and experience I just don't really see myself coming back here again. Interior and atmosphere of the restaurant has remained the same, but I have several comments about the food now. The leafy vegetables (Napa cabbage, spinach, bok choy, etc.) didn't look fresh or feel chilled in the slightest and the pork itself was browning. My friend and I got the Taiwanese Spicy Broth and Bone Broth and both were not great. Taiwanese spicy was much too salty and the bone broth was heavy and oily. All these places have pretty good quality ingredients including tasty pot. 13.99 a lb is the going average among these types of restaurant. Sauce bar is standard but everything I look for and need. I usually aim for tom yum soup base so yin tang doesnt have it. I would usually have to drive to ygf but looks like I have a much closer place now!. This hits my tom yum soup craving. I know everyone's palet is different but for me, it's good. I got very spicy and it was just spicy enough for me to enjoy without dying lol.. This was my first time eating here. I have to say, the size of the soup pot is more than enough. I tried the Kimchi dumpling soup with medium spice. When my soup arrived, it was a mountain of delicious hot pot piled on top of each other. I had to delicately stir and mix everything into my soup, but the flavor of the kimchi and all the fixings that came with it was amazing. We came during lunch which wasn't busy and were seating right away. The soup is served over a small burner to keep your soup hot while eating. You can choose to close the burner if you want, but I kept mine up to the point of boiling before turning it off. This place is large enough to accommodate large groups and there's a parking structure right behind the place with ample street parking as well. The ingredients were fresh, even though the cabbage could be cut into smaller pieces. Portion size was adequate--it's just the right amount for me, but you might leave wanting more if you're extra hungry. This is my 2nd time dining here. To be honest I only came here because I knew there is no line during rush hour. It's a back up choice for me if BP is busy and I don't want to wait. The food here is fine but it's not as tasty as BP in my opinion. Doesn't mean it's bad. It's just my preference. The soup is on the sweeter side for me. We went on a Saturday morning right when it opened. We were a party of 8. We were the only customers. The waiter just told us to move the table to combine them to be a table of 8. He didn't bother to do it or help out. It was like self service. I had to go get the high chair myself for my little one too. When we asked the server to add more of the gel thing so the hotpot could be hot, he was like it's boiling. Clearly, it wasn't boiling, and there was almost no more fire. We even asked him is it he can't do it. Finally, he went in to add more. To order, you can scan the QR code. We were about to submit our order, then he came to the table to try to take our order. The food was ok. The portion was ok too. Feel like another hot pot place is better. Don't think we will be back. Automatically charged 18% tips, so pay attention to your bill. read more

solid spot for single serving hot pot with the beef #1 as my go to order. decided to try the seafood one time since it comes with an entire lobster tail!!! it was a novelty but the meat ends up being tough from being overcooked. the lobster tail is also not seasoned at all so it was a nice one time try. minus one star because I had to go up and ask the waiter to take our order and later go up again to ask again for refills for our soup. I went on a weekday evening and it wasn't packed at all so I should not have needed to ask. Overall still one of my go to places for single serving hotpot. There's free parking structures nearby with plenty of parking which is convenient. i don't come here for lunch often but i believe the hot pot comes with a drink which is a pretty good deal! read more

Came in for lunch and there seemed to be only two on service staff. A little less that a third of the restaurant was occupied. The seating is spaced out comfortably and seems good for groups. Menu is a very similar concept to Boiling Point. With a fire underneath to keep things hot. The sauces are also the same three types. read more

Absolutely yummy. Perfect comfort food especially with the cooler months approaching. My friend got the beef hot soup which she enjoyed very much. I opted for the kimchi dumpling soup and it was divine! Served with all kinds of ingredients you get such a good variety of proteins and veggies. Weird thing was that the menu lists vermicelli or rice noodles as the two options. We wanted vermicelli but were given glass looking like noodles; still tastes good though. Piping hot they also served a raw egg right on top that you can stir in to cook. It does get extremely hot; mine boiled quite a bit. I didn't figure out until later that there was a little lever to turn off the heat. Wish that was specified somewhere or that the staff had cleared up if we knew what to do lol.
