I think BP is better only for the stock flavor of the broths. Once you add stuff to your bowls, then all the little things are just better at tasty pot. Plus the staff is a lot friendly. Finally came to try this place out rather than my usual lunch dates at Boiling Point and it definitely did not disappoint. We arrived at around ~12:30 in the afternoon and was seated right away. After we got seated, the lunch rush began to come and quickly seats were getting filled up. Parking is not too bad as there is a parking structure behind the restaurant. This place took over the old boiling crab location! We arrived during their lunch hours so our meal came with a drink. I ordered a Beef and my cousin got their Tom Yum. The beef was a smaller pot than the Tom Yum but both are shareable sizes! Their pricing is about ~3+ /pot more than boiling point but their meat to veggies portions is more than their competitors. Going in, I knew it was going to be a Taiwanese style hot pot which isn't my favorite but I do enjoy boiling point so I gave it a try. Like boiling point, they have diff soup options with different proteins listed out. They also have green or black tea included during lunch. I got the beef and noticed that there is actually a lot of protein and cabbage. That is a plus for tasty pot. The soup however, wasn't as good as boiling point. It had a lot of satay flavor. Unfortunately, upon a few bites I noticed hair in my pot.... I notified the server and they apologized and made me a new one. They also gave me another green tea on the house to make up for it. Overall, I think boiling point wins in Taiwanese hot pot. They have better soups and flavor overall. Tasty pot does give more protein and a lot of cabbage compared to boiling point. It was a very voluminous meal thanks to the napa cabbage at the bottom. I like the richer broth, but wasn't a fan of the graininess of the mild spices in the soup. It was almost like a sandy soup... The vermicelli also wasn't the chewier variety. I think I prefer the brand that BP uses. The green tea is fragrant and not as sugary, which I like. For $16.99, I thought it was a pretty satisfying meal and is a wonderful alternative to BP. ($21.54 including tax and 15% tip). Lunch pricing is available daily, not just on the weekday. It comes with a free green tea and you save a buck on certain hot pot (not all). I've had Tasty Pot up in Newark before. And since this is a chain, I had pretty much the same expectations, which was not a whole lot. If you had Boiling Point, this is pretty much the same. Ordered the thumbed-up recommendation of #1 Beef Hot Soup with vermicelli. (Even if you chose the rice option, this dish already comes with some vermicelli in it.) If you're not a fan of the Taiwanese Satay Sauce / Barbecue Sauce (沙茶醬), this is NOT the dish for you. I love Taiwanese Satay Sauce and I didn't really like this. The taste was overpowering and that's all you tasted. All the food comes already cooked. So the fire underneath basically just keeps all the content hot. Expect lots of napa cabbage. The apparatus the hot pot was served on is unique. (Refer to photo.) However, it takes up a lot of table space. The surface is hot, therefore you can't utilize it by placing anything on there. The two of us sat at a table for two and the table space felt pretty crammed. I understand with COVID, many restaurants have chose to use disposable utensils. However, when the main dish is hot soup, thin and flimsy plastic spoons just doesn't cut it. Parking: Limited and timed street parking. You're better off parking in the free parking structure located in the back. Would I be back? My bf and I each ordered a beef hot pot while my friend ordered their curry hot pot. The fire for 2 of our pots failed to even start and the waiter had to take it in to switch the fire. This seemed to be the case with many other parties too. Even after switching the fire, all 3 pots never fully boiled! We literally ate bland lukewarm hot pot lol. It was so bad that none of us finished our food and was still very hungry after. They also served their sauces in tiny togo sauce containers and no bowls were given either. I love Tasty Pot just as much as Boiling Point, maybe a little more on certain days I want more toppings rather than just a lot of napa cabbage (lol). There is a lunch and dinner service, with a 2 hour break in between. I came around 2:35 and they still allowed us to dine-in and order. Although we were the last ones past 3:00 pm, they didn't rush us but we also didn't take too long because we felt bad. For lunch, you get a free green or black tea. Their tea has much more tea flavor and less sugar/sweetened compared to BP. Still refreshing and I prefer more tea flavor. They have 3 tiers of pricing, so make sure you check the menu carefully. We tried the beef pot and curry pot, both were excellent. Comes with rice or vermicelli. Both pots came with a variety of toppings, and very filling; they are not skimpy at all! This spot is really similar to Boiling Point, but I think the portions here are bigger. My friend did mention that she still prefers Boiling Point because she likes her hot pot really hot and boiling, but here, the food wasn't as hot as she would've liked. I've came here twice and both times, really had no issues. First time I came here, I tried their Curry broth. Second time, I ended up with the Szechuan broth. First time coming here, we had their lemon pepper wings. Those wings are so crispy and piping hot when they come out. While the debate of KBBQ v. Hotpot continues to rage internally through my mind, I find places such as these to be tipping my favor for the latter. My girlfriend and I ordered the Healthy Veggie Hot Soup and Seafood Lobster Hot Soup, both at Thai Flavor Mild Spicy. To go along with it, we ordered a Diet Coke & Thai Tea w/ Boba. The service itself was lightning quick, and our waitress was highly attentive. The boba was surprisingly fresh given that most places seem to serve frail, fraying boba around this time of day, especially for a weekday. I really enjoyed the little tastes and flavors of all the creatures of the sea, nestled tidily in my broth pot. Not one ingredient in the mix felt forced or out of place and the vermicelli noodles were a great complimentary add-on. The veggies through and through were the kind of fresh that allowed the flavors of the broth to seep in without becoming an absolute sponge. The meat came pre-cooked, and oh-so tender. The portions in each of our pots were ample and more than enough to satiate our cravings without us feeling the "sweats" often accompanied with other large meals. Unfortunately, Tasty Pot wasn't as tasty as its name suggested (though this might be personal preference and might depend on what you order - we ordered the Lamb for reference). The overall ingredients were fresh but the flavor wasn't quite there. It was more of a wholesome, homey taste compared to what we were accustomed to. Also, for these kind of individual hot pot places, the sauces are really key and Tasty Pot's fell a bit short for me personally. It's a very different flavor from the BPs, and bolder Szechuan or Japanese style hot pot places in the area. Overall, I don't know if I will return, but Tasty Pot would be good for those looking for more wholesome neutral flavors in their hot pot and prompt service without the long lines. Parking - Located at the heart of main street, Alhambra, there are many free parking structures in the vicinity making getting in and out convenient. Interior - Clean, spacious, cute interior with a laid back, relaxed ambiance; this would honestly be a really good study spot with the way the inside is set up if hot pot wasn't their main item. It's a quaint place for a chill catch up meal w friends or quick lunch if you work nearby (it looks like a popular lunch spot for coworkers from the diners we saw there). Service - Prompt and friendly, but depending on who is working might be a bit of language barrier. We were confused by their ordering app (you scan the QR code to order for the table, but for some reason it marked our order as To-Go), and it was a bit frustrating getting clarification. Other Points of Interest: -They have a snacks menu (w a good variety of boba shop type snacks) which other individual hot pot places typically don't have. -I've been here twice, both times they gave my tea without any lid/covering which I think might be standard for dine in. You can actually ask them to seal the cup so you can take your tea to go if you don't finish it during your meal. -You order through a link after scanning the QR code. You pay by asking your server for the bill and not through your phone. -Unfortunately you can't adjust sugar levels for the tea that comes with the lunch special. -Strangely (might be one off), my hot pot never really hit that rapidly boiling stage despite the fire being on. I used to go to Tasty Pot ALL the time in San Diego because they had one on Convoy. I've been waiting for 5 years since I left there for them to FINALLY open one here!! Just a disclaimer that they're still in soft opening so don't be rattled if they're slow because they're understaffed and not properly trained. They're super accommodating to me and gave me extra free black tea on the house cause I went during my work lunch hour and it did take a while. They're essentially like Boiling Point. Personal hot pot with a bunch of veggies, seafood, protein, etc. I usually go with the Beef Hot Pot or the Taiwanese Spicy (large only) with very spicy, vermicelli, and green tea. The vermicelli they gave was so little quantity that Boiling Point in that way is better cause they give you a whole bundle of it. In terms of what's in the pot, i think they give more protein than boiling point does and in terms of menu diversity, Tasty Pot has more variety. Currently for soft opening they're doing 15% off but I think they're going to do their grand opening next week so hopefully staff will be more trained and they can hire more people. The sauces that they have used to be what Boiling Point had before they changed it and I liked that sauce better. Their prices are relatively the same as Boiling Point (maybe alittleeee higher?). All in all, one of my favorite hot pot places. I used to not like Boiling Point but because that's all I had here while Tasty Pot used to be so far away, I grew to love BP now so it's pretty neck and neck to me. I've been hearing about all the hype about this place and how it's so comparable to Boiling Point... i've eaten so much Boiling Point every week at one point that I had to find out what's good about this place too! You scan the QR code at the table and you order through the app. It's really convenient since you don't have to flag someone down to take your order and they can just follow the table number to bring your pot to you. I even liked how they offered those disposable sauce cups, disposable spoons, etc. It makes it feel a lot cleaner considering the COVID situation we're in, except those spoons are pretty difficult to use when dining in lol. I ordered the Beef Hot Soup and my friend ordered the Curry Hot Soup. First off, the beef hot soup is normally my go-to even at Boiling Point so in comparison, Tasty Pot definitely has a lot more variety going on. There was different kinds of tofus, fishball, and I liked how they actually give you almost 2-3 of each item inside the pot. I really like imitation crab, so I was surprised to find two of them in there! Even at Boiling Point, it's just probably like 1 of each item inside and a whole bunch of cabbages LOL. We were 5th on the list during peak lunch time and I was prepared to wait an hour (as this has been typical these days), within 20 minutes we were seated and putting in our order through there online ordering system. Their system is truly amazing and a game changer. I was so impressed by the user friendliness. They also give free green tea with every order, I did f expect much from it given that green tea is a fairly benign extra item. But truly their green tea was marvelous with the perfect amount of honey. I was so impressed! The quality of the tea was an amazing plate cleanser in between bites. The food was amazing, everything is cooked so well and I got the Thai flavoring in the broth, it was truly so tasty. I felt so good after eating it and can't wait to go back again! I was nervous about the amount of food as usually when I've gone to hot pot it is unlimited, but they truly give u your moneys worth and more. If you're very hungry definitely get your own but if you're medium hungry, it's reasonable to share with an additional appetizer. Came here on a Friday night and got seated immediately. I ordered the beef hot soup and in comparison to Boiling Point's beef hot pot, I would say that Tasty Pot has different add-ons such as clams, taro, and more fish cakes. Boiling Point has more vegetables (i.e. napa cabbage) and the beef tastes better in my opinion. The broth is pretty similar, but I do prefer Tasty Pot's sauces more. Staff was very attentive and kind and checked up on us every now and then. Overall the hot pot was yummy and fulfilling & the restaurant is very spacious with lots of seating. It was average. I think the idea was there, but the execution wasn't good. I'm a big fan of hotpot. I love hotpot anything and everything, but this unfortunately did not satisfy me. Now, firstly I think the place really did want to outshine Boiling Point, and it did with it's service. However, with the drinks and food itself, it was very underwhelming. Boiling Point obviously wins hands down with their flavors and soups. Tasty Pot was okay, but did not want me coming back for more. The pot and grill are super stylish, but it's a little concerning due to all the openings to the fire itself. And as stylish and cool as their concept is, my food didn't cook. My egg was still raw after 15 minutes. I ordered #10 Japanese Miso Hot Soup. Apparently there is only one size. There was an overwhelming amount of food on it, which took a very long time to cook. In fact, some places didn't cook at all, which was actually pretty gross. My friends ordered the #1 Beef Hot Soup (contains nuts) and the #2 Lamb Hot Soup (contains nuts). They said both were okay, but not as good as Boiling Point. We also ordered the fries and the popcorn chicken. We had to ask them for sauces too. My favorite thing about this place is their restrooms. They're super stylish and very modern. Heated floors, heated toilet, light up mirrors. TLDR; Average taste, lackluster service. Stopped by Tasty Pot after learning that Embassy Kitchen was no longer AYCE. What drew my friend and I in was a window ad of lunch orders coming with a free drink... The free drink ended up being either a black tea or milk tea or a 50% off any other drink on the menu. I ordered a Curry Pot along with a 50% off Rose Matcha Late with Boba with half sugar. The Curry Pot tasted as expected, and I would compare the style and tastes here to be similar to Boiling Point but slightly lighter. The Rose Matcha Latte even at half sugar was fairly sweet, and the Rose flavor tasted like artificial syrup rather than natural. Perhaps that is what contributed to a much sweeter than expected taste. The boba was alright, but as this is not a shop that features boba, that wouldn't be something fair to compare. I think there were two notable experiences that I did not enjoy on my Sunday afternoon visit. The first was in asking for water. I understand that it's currently a drought and water would only be served upon request, but I had asked twice and on both occasions was not given water until I asked again (30 minutes after seating). During the duration of our visit, there weren't many other tables, so the difficulty in receiving water had surprised me. The second was that the top of the pots and the holders weren't effective at containing the broth. Right after our food had arrived, the broth had boiled over and spilled onto the table; never in my experience at Boiling Point or other hot pot restaurants had this happened. read more
