Ok, so I must admit, their pastries are wonderful, they bakery is well kept and clean and the coffee is quite decent. But, what is up with the attitude of some of the staff member? Perfect place to hide out from a cold Boston day! When you walk in, you're immediately hit with the smell of the fresh pastries and coffee. They also have a great selection of savory food as well. We stopped in for breakfast and I went for the shakshuka because I have wanted to try it for some time now. The shakshuka was served in a giant pan and with plenty of bread for dipping. The eggs added a great creaminess and it was well seasoned as far as salt and pepper goes, I just wish it had more of the warm spices I was looking for. After staring at the pastries while we were eating, we decided to bring a few home to his family and a few for ourselves. I tried the poached pear muffin and it was unique and delicious. On a clear, crisp Friday morning, I finally got to try Tatte Bakery & Cafe. I had wanted to try Tatte since moving to Boston in August. I got up early and took the Red Line to MGH before class and couldn't wait to give Tatte a try! I got there a little after they opened - smart move because I'd heard it gets really crowded. But on a Friday morning, the place was quiet with a handful of customers. I was warmly greeted by the staff and placed my order: Avocado Tartine, cup of coffee, and one of the infamous nut boxes (pistachio to be exact). I made myself comfortable at a counter by the window and sipped my hot coffee while I waited for my breakfast. The decor and vibe at Tatte is quaint and comfortable. My breakfast came out and looked beautiful! The Avocado Tartine was delicious - two thick pieces of fresh sourdough bread with tasty avocado and a perfectly over-easy egg on top. Yum!!! The coffee was hot and fresh - quality beans roasted to perfection. And the pistachio nut box ... Heaven. Perfect balance between sweet and salty, and the crust was the perfect crispness. Cute local bakery and cafe!! We stayed in Beacon Hill and this place was a couple of minutes walk from where we were staying. I love coffee shops like this. Lots of selections of baked goods and coffee is Stumptown. I tried the almond croissant it was delish just the way I like it and it was Huge but loved my almond latte even more. The lines can be long especially in the morning but we were in no rush, we were on vacation. My husband ordered the breakfast sandwich I had several bites and the bread was fantastic. We also tried several other pastries on other visits. I completely agree with Sara G.'s review. I The staff is rude and got our order wrong. When I pointed out that my daughter ordered an iced latte, but received a hot latte, the cashier who took our order practically yelled at us and said "No! She said HOT!" Which is highly unlikely given that my daughter only drinks iced coffee. So I asked if we could just have a cup with ice (since they obviously were not going to correct their mistake by remaking the drink), the cashier, clearly annoyed, said something in another language to the barista who then very reluctantly gave us a cup of ice without a lid. We ended up walking out with very watered down lukewarm latte. They also make it a practice of wheeling huge trash bins through the bakery (practically brushing up against customers) to the sidewalk.
