The staff is unfriendly, like most Tatte locations I've been to, and then the obnoxious tip screen suggests you leave an 18% minimum tip on... counter service? Seriously? They also create so much waste -- plastic cups for water instead of glass, and they won't let you bring in a clean travel mug to get a drink to go. Employees say it's store policy, which is idiotic. When I brought in my own clean travel cup, the staff made my drink in a disposable cup and made me pour the drink into my mug, which obviously defeats the purpose. They also don't know the difference between a cappuccino and a latte (the cappuccino you order will always be a latte). read more

Confusing for a first time visitor. Have to order and pay at the counter first, then receive a number for items not from the pastry case. A server handed me my pastry selection on a plate. When I sat down at the counter with my number on a stanchion awaiting my tea, I realized I had no fork with which to eat the fruit boat. I asked one of the cashiers, who left his station to rustle up a fork. (I had tipped 20%.). Then I realized I had no napkin, so I left my seat to find one, a minuscule tissue inside a to-go utensil pack. Is this how to treat customers? The pastry was thick and tough, not flaky. The chai latte had a bitter finish. The patrons I interacted with were very polite ( Wellesley, after all). The interior is pleasant, but the service is poor. This place has a fun atmosphere and great pastries and sandwiches amongst other things. However it took 30 minutes to get a latte. It came far after we got our food. I ordered a drink so that I would have a drink to eat with my food. Why would it come after we are basically done eating?? It was extremely frustrating and when we asked about it we were just told to sit down and it would be brought to us. The staff were not very friendly or helpful. We went on opening day, which can be a mixed bag. It was mobbed, but staff was well organized and moved efficiently. Someone was at the door, welcoming us in with a menu and assured us that the long line would move quickly (it did). We wanted to try the shakshukas. The person at the register was super kind and helped us decide--even showing us photos. Food and iced latte came out quickly and was exactly what you'd expect from Tatte. The Wellesley space is gorgeous. It's huge, with a nice bathroom and large patio. Parking is easy. It's just what Wellesley needs! read more

We went here on a Tuesday morning for breakfast, man was it packed! It was huge, tastefully done and a huge array of baked goods inviting as you wait in the line to order your food, so you order and wait to find a table, I really wish they had more tables, their layout is kinda wacky! To the food, we ordered the shakshuka, the chicken and fava bean bowl and turkish eggs. The chicken and fava bowl was my favorite, a soothing taste, with the accompanying pita was flavorful but nothing too overpowering, I liked the shakshuka and turkish eggs, but they could use some more punch, the hot chocolate was too good and the breads that got served along were screaming fresh! read more

Half the potions and double the price: The ambiance and service as standard Tatte. It's a chaos owned by Penara. If you like bathroom tiles, the all white ambiance is fine. It is what it is. What I can't get over is how Tatte like everyone else feels they can just keep raising prices and reducing portions. When does this madness end ? Simply put, I will be going there even less often to get my scones, lamb hash both of which have nearly doubled in price in 4 years and reduced in size at the same time. I've tried Tatte in Wellesley several times. After my experience this week, I won't go back. The food is good, but it is very expensive, the service is very hit or miss, and it takes too long. I have to change four starts to one start, because this afternoon when I was waiting in the line to orde, I saw a fly stopped on the coffee cake, and then another fly stopped on the coffee cake. Next, I saw another one. And the employees were so use to it and won't drive these flies away, just let the flies flying from one cake to another one. While this isn't a review on the quality of the food, which we do find to be deserving of a 4-5 star... our most recent experience in trying this newly opened location is that the service is the worst. We've ordered online for take away and also have dined-in and in both instances service was lacking. Our online experience left us with half of our order (although they charged us full price) and our attempts to contact them once we reach home and realized we were missing items got us nowhere as they don't answer the phone at this location. We have requested a refund for our online order and are still awaiting a response from the Tatte team. read more

I just finished my pistachio latte - after coming home and filtering out all the chunks of pistachio! I was intrigued with the idea of pistachio syrup (which is what the menu said) in coffee (say, like hazelnut) but instead it was ground up pistachios. Literally and figuratively hard to swallow - without water to wash it down. I ordered it to go or I might have just given it back. There's no place on the website to give feedback, or on the receipt. Arrogance? Indifference? Generally, I'm a fan but this was a good idea with really poor, or at least misleading, execution. read more

The staff is very nice, but the lines don't move quickly. It is hard, very hard, to find a table outdoors and my biggest gripe is that all the drinks come in plastic cups and bottles BUT THERE IS NO RECYCLING! This makes me very angry. How can you have an upscale bakery in an upscale town (Wellesley) and not help the planet. Also, the salads have very little to them and the Kabob had only a tiny dollops and the pita was boring. Excellent service and scrumptious food. I highly recommend this location. As soon as you walk in, you can feel that downtown city feel. The times I've visited this location, I love how there is an international crowd. People from all over the world, at least the times that I have gone it feels like a café you could come across in any big city like Boston, NYC, etc. The atmosphere and scene is really cool. However, you MUST plan ahead if you are on a time table. It all depends on what you are looking to do. If you are meeting someone, if possible, I recommend one of you get there about 10 - 15 minutes early to get a table to even better order so by the time you are looking to sit down with your friend rolls around you will have a table ready. The place get jammed on the weekends. If you want to sit and work on your computer or read or see where the morning takes you, but want to make sure you get to pick any table, get there 5 - 10 minutes BEFORE they open. That way you have your pick of where to sit. The window high seats are one of my favorite spots whether you are sitting alone or with someone. If you aren't looking to sit down here, this will be the quickest option for you. You will have to wait in line, but it moves fast because the staff are so organized and good at what they do. They offer Gluten Free (GF) and dairy free (DF) options that are delicious. They also offer Matcha lattes with a range of dairy free mylks. My favorite is a Matcha Latte with almond milk. The staff who work here are excellent especially considering the intensity of the work environment. They are work very hard and at a very past pace considering how packed this place can get. Yet, amidst it all they seem to be very knowledgeable about the menu and seem passionate about what they do. I definitely recommend this location. This review is for the Tatte in Wellesley. I actually love the food and atmosphere so why such low review? The service at this location can be horrendous, and like many places, it depends on the personnel working that day. So this isn't a knock on every single employee but there's a few in here that should not be in the service industry. I get it, the tables are small and you have some pretentious customers that may be a tad demanding. However, you're getting paid to do a job. When you're there, perform to the best of your ability and move up in the world if you feel this is beneath you. Issues I had experienced and witnessed during my visit from out of state in March: I ordered a coffee which the cashier generally pours me as only custom drinks goes to the coffee bar. Young cashier was just in a bad mood and that's ok, maybe she's having a bad day. So when I come up and asks for it in a nice manner, she's having an attitude again like I'm some entitled customer. At this point, I'm about to lose it on her. I let it go and simply asked for it from another cashier who was courteous and handed me my coffee. I look over and my original cashier looks like she's going to cry. I hope it's not from me because I haven't done anything. But if you're struggling or feeling that stressed (the place is busy so I understand it could be stressful), tell your manager that you need a break. Second thing I witnessed the table next to me. The two people ordered a few things including a shakshuka (the plates are big especially if you're at one of the small table). The customer did have her purse on the table which she removed when the server brought up the items but left her phone on the table. This did cause the servers some problem because it's many items on a very small surface. I don't think the lady left her phone on the table on purpose and the server could have just asked for her to remove it so they can set the items down. Instead, the server made some nasty remark and had an attitude. It was obvious to the customer and she made a comment to the other server. To make a long story short, I get it. Place is super packed at certain times of the day, not enough seating and the table you get might be too small for the item(s) ordered, but it is what it is. Got to find a way to manage without making the customers feel like they owe you. I have two teenagers and one is in college. She worked at a smoothie place and she said there has been tough days, when a sports team comes in while you're still managing regulars. On top of that you got online orders and a co-worker calls in. That's all part of learning and dealing with stress. Some people will overcome it and do greater things, while others will hate not only the job but life in general. This is all part of growing up and learning responsibilities. I love the food at Tatte and the decor, but definitely need to have some training with your staff. It's a manager's job to discern issues quickly and manage the business. read more

So. First time here. Loved it until the service went sideways. It's cafeteria style, so you place your order then find a table and they'll bring your food to you. I went with my elderly mom whose mobility is limited. When they brought her food, she inquired about her coffee that hadn't arrived yet. The server said she'd check on it. (Crickets) After 10 mins, I walked to the counter to where we ordered and inquired. She sent me to the coffee bar towards the back. Got there, inquired, and was sent BACK to the first counter. Aggravated, I went back to the server and someone working with her finally got the coffee, but with no cream or sugar. So then I had to get up a third time to get that. The value of my $30 lunch quickly diminished and the novelty of the setup quickly wore off. Something as simple as not getting our coffee easily or on time pretty much ruined my first experience here. I hope they learn to communicate better -- both with their customers (setting expectations) and with one another. Otherwise, the food was tasty. read more

It's Tatte and exactly like every other Tatte. Know what to order -- avoid avocado toast like things, but classic sandwiches like the caprese and BLT with avocado are tasty. Good pastries include the small strawberry-almond tea cakes and cheesecake cups, but why even try a pastry that looks dry? Bottled juices are not very good, cafe drinks are okay. The hummus plate has good ideas but is pretty salty, while the lamb and labneh stuff is pretty good. Not amazing, but not worse than any cafe bakery idea in the Boston area. read more

I can't say the same for the rest of my experience there. The scowling girl standing cross-armed at the drink cashier counter replied to my question about what drinks were available by pointing at a sign on the wall behind me, no suggestions or recommendations. It seemed apparent to me that she didn't want to be there. I ended up ordering the Tumeric Honey Latte Iced Coffee. To be honest, it tasted like paste with a little sugar in it. And since I had long since finished my croissant, I left. I made it to the second outside trash bin before I threw it away. As others have stated it is insanely crowded and incredibly loud at the restaurant. Extremely overpriced for so so food and drinks (if you can get them). They basically just say your name (not calling it out) and if you aren't standing right in front of them, you'll never hear it. Or like in my case, you'll never get it at all, and when you ask the person making drinks if they have a order in the queue for you, and they tell you no, and that you need to get back in the line that is practically out the door, to get a refund, you just give up.
