The lamb chops are thick, juicy and unbelievably filling - more than worth the price. The only problem is that great as they were, a very neutral visage, like lightly salted gentle botanicals. Not sure about you but I think they could do with a bit of Greek seasoning to really give it that nice flavour we like in the lamb chops. The veggies were a tad overcooked but passable. The dolmas were all rice and hardly any meat, kinda sad. The lemon soup was tasty and the sausages were great as well, so some small victories at least. I did order a tiny side of tzatziki to make those lamb chops taste like something but instead the waitress sent out nearly a plateful and added it as an extra cost on our bill. We asked her to take it off the bill as that was not what we ordered and she did so without any fuss. This could use all the flavor help it can get so including a sauce with this (like many other places do) would have been nice. As a bonus, they had FREE BREAD actually so good I forgot to take a picture of it! With very nice Greek music in the background, it offers a wonderful total experience view to where the restaurant is located. Service as a whole was average. read more

I had the worst experience of dining at my favorite restaurant last Saturday, January 23rd. I never felt that way before. I am a busy executive and honestly didn't have the time to write this, but I thought it is so important for the public, as well as the ownership know about a horrible manager by the name of Gilli, who should not be dealing with customers in any capacity, and I know for a fact that I am not alone feeling about her and her management style. Taverna Tony is a great restaurant, and other than this manager, Gilli, all other staff, including the band, waiters, waitresses, and the front desk, are friendly and professional. I have been a loyal customer of Taverna Tony for over 20 years. Throughout all that time, my family and I have always loved the food, live music, and entertainment. We have chosen this restaurant for countless celebrations, including birthdays, family gatherings, and other special occasions. Over the years, we have consistently been welcomed warmly, often given a table by the band, and made to feel like part of the family. Because of this long-standing relationship, this experience was especially disappointing. From the start, Gilli was rude, unapproachable, and displayed a consistently negative attitude. Despite the fact that we had reservations, she stated she would "try" to seat us and then made no further effort to follow up or communicate with us, which further demonstrated her inattentiveness, leaving us waiting without explanation. There were lots of tables available by the way. What was most upsetting was a rude and inappropriate comment she made regarding my son singing in Persian when he was specifically asked by the band and the crowd to sing one or two songs. This was particularly troubling given that Taverna Tony regularly features musicians performing in many different languages, including Greek, Persian, Armenian, Arabic, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, and others. It is important to note that my son's singing was overwhelmingly welcomed by the crowd. The crowd and staff clearly enjoyed his performance, and he was called up by the band due to popular demand. Numerous guests and staff members complimented him afterward, making the manager's comment not only unnecessary but completely inconsistent with the positive and inclusive atmosphere shared by everyone else in the establishment. Singling out my son for singing in Persian felt disrespectful and discriminatory, and it created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment for my family and many others. Managers set the tone for hospitality and inclusivity, and Gilli's behavior fell well below the standards I have come to expect from this establishment over the past three decades. No guest should be made to feel unwelcome. I hope this matter is taken seriously by ownership and addressed appropriately. I would highly encourage upper management or ownership to get in touch with me, because this letter hardly scratches the surface of her unpleasant and rude behavior that has affected me. Gilli should never be dealing with the public, and I am sure we are not the first people she treated that way. If she continues in her role as a manger it is going to cause this establishment to lose customers over time. Especially people like me who travel about 30 to 35 minutes each way to get there and expect to be welcomed. I would appreciate knowing what steps will be taken to ensure that all guests are treated with respect and fairness moving forward, as it always has until Gilli became a manager. read more

Food is 10/10 here!!! We had the combination platter to try all the dips. The tabouli was to die for, best I've had for sure. Loves the hummus and babaganoush as well. The chicken souvlaki was so moist, and the potatoes and rice it came with were addicting. Ambiance is nice but restaurant is extremely crowded, mainly with waiters to be honest. The servers were all frantically running around with trays of food. I watched servers drop things multiple times, bring things to wrong tables, and they kept hitting my chair. It was hard to get anyone's attention to answer simple questions. Our waiter was slightly grumpy and provided no tips on the menu as it was our first time visiting. He also couldn't hear us well over the live music so would stare blankly at us when we asked anything. As a note, if you're coming for the live music, the band does take long breaks, so I'd recommend coming for the 8pm music as opposed to when it starts at 6:30 as it seems like the first break is the longest. I'd call to double check on music start and break times so as to not be disappointed. I almost forgot to mention the best part of the meal!!! The first thing they put on the table when you sit down is a white dip with homemade bread... great in theory until you find out this dip has caviar (not only an allergen, an animal product, but also a good that pregnant women and children are not allowed to eat). It would have been nice to be warned what was in the dip before I ate it. Hopefully I'll be okay. The saganaki was okay, but didn't come with pita, we had to order that separately. The calamari was okay, but served with cocktail sauce... seemed like an odd pairing. The spinakopita was just a bit less than okay... very little flavor and pretty much no crunch. The star of the night was the grilled octopus (which was in fact grilled and not just roasted), it was cooked to perfection, but missing a bit of seasoning unfortunately... nothing a little lemon couldn't fix. The best Greek I've ever had. It's easy to see why this is the most crowded restaurant in Malibu with maybe the exception of Nobu. I'm not a bread person and I couldn't stop eating it. The butter dip is amazing and the bread is cooked to perfection. I ordered the filet mignon dish and it was some of the best meat I've ever had. Ultra tender with a flavor unlike anything I've tasted before. The vegetables were equally as good. The rice had a unique flavor as well. By far my favorite restaurant in Malibu. Sketchy and untrustworthy. The food was mid and overpriced, but the real issue is how shady this place is. Within five minutes of sitting down, my dad's phone was stolen while he went to the bathroom. Staff offered zero help and acted weird quiet, evasive, and clearly listening in on our conversations. We were literally talking about my sister graduating from law school that day and her connections with the DA's office. When we asked them to check the cameras, they brushed us off and never followed up. That night, we tracked the phone to an address 30 minutes away from the restaurant. Then, the next day, the phone's location suddenly pinged back at the restaurant. I went in before they opened and spoke to the kitchen staff. First, they denied having it and told me to wait for the manager. I made it clear I wasn't leaving without the phone or I was calling the cops. Suddenly, the phone magically appeared, turned off, and handed to me with zero apology or explanation. Don't trust this place. They absolutely knew what they were doing. We had a party of six here for my birthday and sat on the patio. I recommend having a reservation because they filled up fast. The bread and Greek dip they bring to your table is to die for. So we enjoyed that and some Tiropitas as appetizers. So yummy. We all enjoyed our meals which included Pastichio, Caesar with shrimp, and Lamb Souvlaki. I enjoyed their Greek peasant salad and I added Lamb. I wanted something light and this was amazing. The lamb was so tender and delicious. My husband enjoyed the combo plate which had a little of everything. I stole a dolma and loved it! I'd love to come back and just do appetizers. Service was good. I know our server got busy but no one at our table got a refill on their drink the two hours we were there besides me because I asked the bus boy. Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The patio was lively but we got seated right away. The bread they brought out was so good, I could have probably just eaten that alone. I got the vegetarian paradise mezze, which included a little of everything vegetarian on the menu, and the sagnaki cheese appetizer for the table. The cheese was flambéed tableside and tasted amazing (it's hard to make fried cheese taste bad, I'll admit). The vegetarian mezze was great and definitely big enough to share. Lots of fresh crudite atop eggplant dip, hummus, and tzatziki. The dolmas were served warm, which is a nice change up. The service was great too, which is an unfortunate rarity in LA. Our waitress, Jennifer, was among the best I've ever had! She was so attentive and polite. She never missed a beat and knew the menu ingredients without having to check with the kitchen. She also served us with a smile! We ordered the whole branzino and the lentil soup. Both were delicious, especially the branzino! They serve warm crusty bread and a delicious house dip when you sit. We got the Greek Feast which for $85 per person (up from just $59 two years ago) seems like a lot of food but really isn't. Overall quality outside of dips across the board was poor and didn't really think 2 greek meatballs for 2 people was appropriate nor were 3 kalamata olives in the salad nor the state of their tomatoes which was what you'd see at Food4Less. No bueno. At all. Nice to see high quality feta in the peasant salad, however. The food was hot but it wasn't very good, particularly the dry lamb which had clearly been sitting all day. This place is like Solidarity in Santa Monica which has a large set of chafing dishes keeping food warm made earlier (cough moussaka cough spanikopita). We will come back but my recommendation is to order 1 extra dip and pita and just order entrees. The shrimp looked to be the best entree I saw at other tables and that is definitely freshly prepared in the kitchen (saw it with my own eyes going into the broiler). read more

Tavern Tony's in Malibu was excellent, atmosphere, service and food. We had met friends that were local there for brunch. We were seated in a beautiful patio. Keep in mind the location is in a stripe mall area that is very popular, parking is hard to fine especially on a Sunday at Brunch time. The cuisine is Mediterranean. My friend had the Grilled Jumbo Butterflied Prawns which came with rice, potatoes and grilled veggies and I had the lunch special: Lamb sandwich with a side of Tabouli. They also have live Greek music over the weekend so you feel like your in Greece . The family style restaurant offers an extensive authentic Greek menu with large portions to share. We had the lamb chops this last time along with the meze and kebab plater with rice and it was sooooo good! The ambiance here is also really nice. If you want to hear more of the music, make sure your seated inside otherwise the outdoor seating is great as your surrounded by beautiful olive trees. Went here for my Nephews graduation from USC. The bread and garlic dip they give you is amazing. Service was awesome and the music and belly dancer was fun. I had the sampler platter, being that this was the first time I had been there it was the best option. Their version of lasagna was definitely my favorite. I will return to have the lasagna soon! 20 years ago I was at Taverna Tony. We were the last group at the restaurant at night and once they started cleaning the dining room I noticed that they were puring wine from GLASSES not bothles into half full bothles. I promised myself that that would be the last time I am at the restaurant. Yesterday several couple friends of ours wanted to go there so we decided to try it again. So here it is: the place is pleasant to visit and the music is entertaining. Prices are very high for food thsat I will give it a 7 out of 10 and the size of the meal is good. However we were 5 couples and once we finished eating we continued staying and talking. It was about 10 PM at night. Suddenly the manager stopped by and asked us to leave with an excuse that they only allow 2.5 hours. I would like to point out that there were many other empty tables so space was not an issue. I think this is not the way to treat customers. So I guess if I am still alive 20 years from nou I may try them again. read more

Greece is a dream. Taverna Tony helps me get back to that dreamy, azure place I absolutely lust for. With their California white stucco, massive blooming magenta bougainvillea and that Mediterranean blue trim it's easy to forget you're in another wonderful place, Malibu! And more importantly, Malibu's premiere shopping center, the Malibu Country Mart! I adore their food. I adore their Greek wine! Which is a challenge to find anywhere but here. The seafood is delicious and the flavors are authentic, pure and true to their roots. The atmosphere is always lively in the summer and more sedate in the winter. Highly recommend for date night.
