In the times of COVID-19 masks are required to enter, they allow one customer in at a time, have a plastic partition at the register and have taped off 6ft apart markers to help customers socially distance themselves. I used to be able to call in our order before we drove there but they had online order. The first system wouldn't register our rewards unless we gave our rewards number when paying at pick up. The second system they have now doesn't register my past rewards so I just ordered in person. I've since stopped ordering the Grasshopper because it wasn't consistent in flavor so hit or miss (but when it's good, it's sooooo good). Liquid gold is good but has milk so not something I want to have a ton of on a regular basis. Mango fire is so good but mangoes are one of my favorite fruits so it's like this drinks as made for me. The boba tea here is pretty good, although a bit on the pricey side. I got the Japanese rice green tea, which had a nice fragrant flavor, with 50% sugar (just sweet enough) and mango popping boba ($5.25). I like that the drink comes in a very attractive tall thin cup. I wish that they had sea salt crema or some sort of milk foam option, but didn't see that on the menu. My husband got their black tea with 50% sugar. I think that the black tea was less sweet than the green tea inherently and thus needed more sugar - I will probably get a higher percentage sugar next time. After being open for only five years and with fourteen locations and counting, Teaspoon Boba is certainly blowing up in the Bay Area and as an independently owned mom and pop run business, they need to be celebrated for this fact alone. After touring the nearby Stanford University campus my friends and I were a bit famished and we knew we needed a refreshment before our long drive up back up to San Francisco. And knowing that my friends were craving a unique boba drink as friends are known to do, I looked at my trusty Yelp app and typed in Boba to see what top rated places appeared, and look what would pop up but Teaspoon. Located off of Middlefield Drive in a nondescript shopping center across from a CVS Pharmacy, this Teaspoon location was hidden in the corner. Although parking in this small lot was at a premium, we were lucky to find a spot right in front. Inside this Teaspoon location is all white and as nondescript as their exterior, as if a former ice cream shop once resided here and never left. Nevertheless, we knew were in for a treat as they not only crafted quality boba tea drinks but they also serve snow ice specials, as they called them, but what is more familiarly referred to as Thai-Style Ice Cream Rolls. I knew I wanted a drink as I was a part of my group that was parched. Their menu is expansive and can come across as overwhelming, you can either order a drink that you create yourself by ordering your selected tea flavor, sweetness level, cream and finally topping, or you can order one of their specialty drinks of which they had over twenty of them. Since I was going through a Lychee phase, I decided to order their Lychee on Lychee, which was Lychee flavored black tea served with lychee jelly. Bold and refreshing and at a decent price of five dollars per 24 ounce drink, it's nice to know when you order their craft teas that they use a specially crafted espresso machine to brew their tea. And they claim to strive the crafting of their unique drinks with organic and fresh ingredients such as the cream, limes and mint leaves they use. It did take a while to receive our drinks as they started getting busy at Teaspoon the afternoon when we were there and I do wish our overall experience at Teaspoon were better as it was way too hot to sip and savor our drinks and treats. In fact, one of my dining mates order the aforementioned snow ice special only to see it melt as it was far too warm inside their small store to truly enjoy our experience. It did make me think if this was in fact a "one-of-a-kind" beverage experience that all tea lovers can enjoy as my drinks was decent, but I cannot admit memorable. I usually get the matcha royale, mango fun time, Thai tea, and passion attraction. It's almost a gamble because some days the drink tasted unbearably sweet, or it had no flavor at all. I can't say it depends on who makes it, but I would have to assume that is the case? I haven't had the best interactions with the staff lately either, and I tried to not let that affect my experience too much, but it didn't help either. This place is really inconsistent with the drinks they make, because of either poor training or poor hiring. Sometimes even the boba isn't completely cooked, leaving some still very firm in the center. Sometimes the same drink is too sweet or not sweet enough. Sometimes the staff appears to not know what they are doing, or are at least confused, with nobody really managing. Review #183 - 2019 After our disappointing experience at Gong Cha, I decided to Yelp for the nearest Teaspoon, since I know I enjoy their grasshopper drink. We showed up around 9:10 PM on a Friday night and the order line was pretty reasonable, even though the seating was pretty packed. Good thing we were just picking up my drink. I decided on my usual, the grasshopper, and another drink just in case one of the kids wanted one. They all sat in the car so I just went with the simplest drink, the taro lover. There was another customer ahead of me, who kept repeating his name to Rhea, but I guess she had a hard time listening because he even spelled it out for her & she still refused to put his name down correctly. She insisted on putting his name down as whatever she thought was easiest for her. I had a tough time deciding since I haven't tried their snow before. Luckily the guy who took my order was really patient and offered some recommendations. But I opted for the Tropical Delight which comes with Mango snow, rainbow jelly, mochi, and condensed milk. I switched the rainbow jelly for almond pudding. Honestly, I thought they put a lot of snow in my cup. It's a good amount for two to share. The snow itself tasted great. Refreshing and not overly sweet. I love mochi, so I had no issue there. And you can't go wrong with condensed milk. If anything, I would get something besides almond pudding cause that just wasn't my cup of tea(spoon). Always a solid choice for tea. I love that they use real fruit juice in a lot of their drinks so they feel less unhealthy than other places. The drinks are pretty unique as well and are usually mixes of a couple different things like watermelon or cucumber juice for example - another reason why they're more ahead of the pack than other places. Another feature common to all the Teaspoons are the ton of different toppings they proudly display. You can customize your sugar and ice levels to further come up with *the* ideal drink. All of the drinks are the same size though. I wanted something a little simpler and I got grapefruit tea at half sweetness and it was perfect. There was even a tiny bit of pulp at the bottom from a real grapefruit! One thing that was cool about this location was that there's a resuable straw initiative.
