I came here with my husband on a Sunday afternoon and we ordered the Strawberry sangria with boba and less ice, as well as a roasted tea creama. The drinks come out, and the person making it forgets to add boba - no big deal, we tell her about it and she fixes it. Problem is, instead of remaking the drink she pokes a hole on top of the drink, pours out some tea, and scoops the boba in. The cup is dripping with sticky tea when she hands it to us, and more importantly it is now 70% ice, 10% boba, and maybe 20% tea at most. We wipe off the sticky tea with napkins ourselves, and kindly ask for them to remake the drink given that we originally asked for less ice and the majority of the drink is just ice now after they dumped the tea out. The person who seemed like the manager tells me that they "can't make drinks with less ice." The manager lady then tells me it's just "corporate policy." I find it ridiculous they mention this after the drink has been made, when the person at the cash register initially taking our order had asked us to choose the ice and sweetness level. I decide manager lady was not going to change her mind so we left. We had barely turned out of the parking lot onto Middlefield Road by Oregon Expressway, when I finished my drink after a couple of sips. Still about 60% ice left (see picture). read more

The geographical location is great, but the drinks seem to be of slightly lower quality and less consistent than the original location on El Camino. After a simple request, the manager screamed at both me, the customer and the teen working for asking if they could change the milk in my drink. The line is outdoors since the store is so small (COVID precautions!) but there were only 2 people ahead of me on a weekday afternoon. I ordered the liquid gold with honey boba. The image displayed on the menu vs the actual drink are different since I believe the employees shake the cream instead of topping it. Huge props to this Teaspoon location for being the first specialty boba shop in Palo Alto - after the initial cookie cutter chains and before the onslaught of competition in the last couple of years. From the hearty Roasted Oolong to the delicately sweet Rose Petal Oolong to the fragrant Creamy Jasmine to the wildly refreshing Lychee, Peach, and White Grape Oolong teas. The best part is that the flavor is infused in the tea leaves so no artificial syrups or powders are used. Teaspoon also has other great drinks besides their teas (all made with quality ingredients). I really wanted to love this place, but it just doesn't quite do it for me. I ordered the house black milk tea with organic cream and boba. I was a little surprised when the bill came to almost $6 for a pretty basic drink! As soon as my order was ready, I realized their strategy: they only have one size drink, and it's ENORMOUS. That's how they justify charging higher prices. The tea itself is pretty good, and the pearls are soft and flavorful, but they adhere together in big clumps, which kept clogging my straw. The lady at the cashier was polite and directed us to the menu on the wall. It takes a rocket scientist to figure out the menu. Came here on a busy afternoon, so it took a while to get through the line. They have a decent range of teas and snow options to choose from. It is a pretty small place, so not really somewhere to go with a large group of people to hang out due to the limited seating. There's more seating outside than there is on the inside. The prices are okay. The boba is good. It has a perfect texture, not too chewy. I ordered a hot milk tea with Boba tonight. There was a new employee working there who made the tea for my order. When I came home, I realized that the amount of tea is 20% less than full after the foam disappeared. I then took the time to drive back to the store to explain the situation. The other employee made another new tea for me and this time it was full and also hot (compared to the earlier hot which was only warm). However, what I surprised is that are the lack of EQ of the employees, after causing me the extra effort to come back: 1) I did not hear any apology, as if I was here to cause trouble. 2) When they made the tea for me, they took away my otherwise perfectly good tea even though it was not full and poured down the drained. If I were them, I would taken the opportunity to first say sorry for the mixup, and (2) let the customer keep the tea as a good gesture for having the customer to come back. Teaspoon finally makes it way to Palo Alto! Tried it for the first time last month during the heat wave and was met with a long line of kids out the door. I saw two women sitting at one of the outside tables, though I'm not sure how much of a conversation they had with the noise. You can say it was a bit cramped, but once I placed my order the employee was kind and gave me a recommendation when I asked for one (she didn't seem overwhelmed by the crowd!). I got the grasshopper (lychee iced green tea with cucumber juice) with aloe vera - it was light and refreshing. I've never seen a boba place with such a tall, slender cups! I liked the attention to detail in the cup's shape and liked the logo design. The toppings are all laid out in a display adjacent to the register (very picture-worthy). The straws and napkins are right across the toppings on a table decorated with succulents (also very picture-worthy). Parking can get cramped around here. It's a small strip mall where the foot traffic outnumbers the number of available spots. The best boba (so far) in Palo Alto. Unlike other places, the tea here doesn't taste like powder or artificial. There's some covered seating outside and a few tables inside, but overall a small location. Some of my favorites include Thai Tea with pearls and Rose Petal Milk Tea with grass jelly. I feel like Rose Petal Milk Tea tends to be on the sweeter side compared to other milk teas, so even if you like really sweet boba, you may want to reduce the sugar on this one. The only concern is that at 7:45pm only one person was at the register taking orders, making all the drinks and snow sundaes by herself and the place was packed. Two older people were seen pacing back and forth and seemed puzzled. They would touch cups or move things around but never complete any drink orders or sundaes. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Teaspoon and boba in general just as much as you. But unfortunately, the quality of the drinks has been going slowly downhill as the popularity (and therefore prices) rise. Teaspoon is a great place for a sweet and refreshing afternoon drink. They have so many options, my head swirls whenever I walk in. Which is OK, as the long line gives me plenty of time to ponder what to spend my $5 on. There's make your own tea, where you can get plain tea for $4.50, with each added topping 50 cents more. Therefore, to just get a drink with boba its 5 dollars. Or, there is "special drinks". These are 4.50 too, but most also don't have toppings included. But, I must say, the Taro Lover is really, really good. If you have not tried it, do so! It's decaf, and though it comes with taro chunks I recommend adding lychee jelly too! But here's something to ponder; For those of you who haven't seen the sign hidden behind other ad's on the billboard in there, Teaspoon is about to slowly raise its prices by 25 cents. I was disappointed when I heard this. But of course, supply and demand. As popularity rises, so do the prices! Also, have you ever noticed how tall the cups are? Yep, well, they're also extremely skinny. They don't actually hold much, it's just an illusion. So remember to skip the ice if you want more tea! I have been to Teaspoon twice, and so far both experiences have not been up to standard. The waiting area was crowded with students from local middle and high schools, the line was very long and cramped. The person in front of me was paying and I was pushed very close to them by the surrounding line. One of their employees yelled at me for being to close, and told me to learn how to make a line. He also told me to learn my manners. I was offended and appalled at this remark. "People need their personal space!" Well Aryan, don't scream at me for how minuscule your waiting area is!
