Our excellent server informed us that this diner/cafe has been in business since 1944. They must be doing something right. Not only was our server great, she was the only server in the restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant we asked if they had any of the chicken pot pie left and she told us she had two. We told her we will take em both. The pot pie came with soup or salad. We both got the soup. I got the veggie beef and she got the famous tomato. The tomato soup was amazing. Next time I will be getting tomato soup. The chicken pot pie had the most amazing crust I've ever had. It was so light, flaky and delicious. Inside were small pieces of chicken, carrots, mushrooms. The filling was perfect, not too thick and not too thin. My only complaint was that mine didn't have much chicken at all. It was still delicious and very filling. I'm not a local. But I always eat here for breakfast or late lunch! Their cornbread, crispy bacon, homemade chicken pot pie (sells out!) and fresh pies make this place like home to me. I eat here alone at the bar area or eat at a small cramped table by a window. Service is fast, quick, they write it all down thank goodness! Coffee refilled and creamers like French vanilla and hazelnut brought to table without asking just wait a little bit- the person only has two hands. My vegetarian friend was happy with their options. She is not a vegan. So butter and eggs are okay. Kiddo happy too with her sandwich of turkey and avocado. The other kiddo got a grilled cheese. I think their breakfast is best with their huge portions and perfectly crispy hashbrowns. In and out. Small spaces. Big portions. It was pretty busy on Saturday night~ we sat at the counter and it took them a good 10 minutes before they asked what we wanted to drink then another 15 minuta for them to take our food order. We came in on a mildly busy weekend and were greeted by a random guy (no uniform, no name tag) who asked how many were in our party. He told us to wait while he cleaned a table--fair enough. But then another guy came over and told us to sit at the bar instead. So we went from nearly getting a table to being stuck at a sticky, never-cleaned bar. The waiter brought our waters and let us know there were no physical menus--we had to scan a QR code. Quick tip: Never scan random QR codes unless you trust the source, as they can be used for data collection or malicious links. The irony? This place doesn't take Apple Pay, but they're quick to push a website menu. And if you don't have cash, the ATM inside charges you a fee just to access your own money--so they're literally making you pay extra just to pay them. Then came the food. It was... fine. A very average sandwich for $20. Easily the most overpriced, mid-tier sandwich I've ever had. The service? Almost nonexistent. Our waiter checked on us once the entire time. Meanwhile, the staff spent most of their time goofing off. I watched them try to throw trash away, only for it to keep falling out because the bin was overflowing. Instead of fixing the issue, they just left it and kept touching things without washing their hands. To top it off, some random guy--who either worked there or was just friends with the staff--was walking around helping himself to free food. No professionalism, no hygiene standards, no respect for paying customers. By the time we finished eating, our waiter was gone. After waiting five minutes, we had to track someone else down just to get a to-go box and the check. And don't even get me started on the bathrooms--absolutely disgusting. I genuinely hope my overpriced sandwich at least helps fund some cleaning supplies, because this place desperately needs them. First and last time coming here. read more

We came to start the day with a good breakfast. Apparently so did half the town, haha. Pretty popular spot so don't be surprised to have an hour or so of wait. Went up to big bear to celebrate my 30th birthday with a few friends and when I was looking at places for us to try out Teddy Bear Restaurant popped up as one of the local favorites and I can tell why ! We were a party of 8 and they sat us right away ! I did have to ask for the table to be re wiped down due to some debris left from the party before but nothing major . We sat down scanned the menu and ordered with our server . There were a lot of other big parties there as well and I expected food to be a little bit of a delay but we got ours extremely fast ! Amazing!! Worth the wait!! We arrived on a Sunday morning wanting breakfast like the rest of Big Bear. The wait was an hour and twenty minutes. We got sat about an hour into our wait time. I love coming here for their freshly baked chicken pot pie! It's the best pot pie I've ever had - it makes a difference that all the ingredients are fresh! Their soups are also incredible. So tired of this place and their horrible attitude. We managed to eat there once during covid and was forced to eat outside. This was in 2020 and the service was awful. We ordered the chicken pies since that's what they were known for, which was great. Every time we come to Big Bear we try to eat there to have a chicken pie, or get them to go. A few months ago, we asked if we could order one to go, and the host who wouldn't even make eye contact said "we are too busy for to-go orders". Confused I asked why? Its on the website that you can order take out, he said "doesn't matter, we aren't doing it." Attempt two happened maybe a month later, same story. The food and the service at TD is always excellent! TD's quaint place is usually packed to the rafters, even with 2 rooms and an outdoor patio. So, Monday morning had no wait and was a perfect time to get to the Village. We both had omelettes, first was the Spanish and the other was the Basil. Both came out ready and hot. I love O'Brien potatoes, well-done, and they delivered! I brought my own coffee mug to use. TD was totally ok with filling and refilling for the normal cup o' Joe cost, and I took a full refill to-go. Only drawback is that it's cash only, but if you come prepared you're golden. The server at this establishment was very hospitable. I just want to begin with that. Unfortunately,This was the worst experience ever! The food was very mediocre. It sounded good on the menu but most everything was dry. Each of us had something different. The corn bread was supposedly was just coming out oven but didn't taste fresh at all. The chicken breast with lemon and capers were very dry. The barbecue chicken breasts were very spicy. The baked potato, how you could ruin that I'm not sure but it looked like plastic. Weekend adventure to BB. Decided to try this place after a great weekend in BB. I have the Denver omelette sub bacon for ham and my buddy ordered the Pastrami hash. The Omelette is definitively worth skipping. The omelette was sad on every level, arrived cold and without cooked peppers or melted cheese. A good omelette isn't difficult, its absurd and quite frankly to serve such a pathetic meal to anyone. The Pastrami has was good and definitely lifetimes better than the omelette.
