Preface: I have a bit of a Euro-fetish. Europeans know how to do it when it comes to design, food, um....recreation... That being said, this place is run by a bunch of Europeans and I love it. I work at a retail shop nearby, so this is a convenient place to have a coffee break with a side of pain au chocolat. Also, they take credit cards without a 'minimum amount' to use it. On the flip side, it can get a little pricey if you get a full lunch. It can sometimes be a little TOO close to work also -- but that's not their fault. Try it. It's a nice place. read more

I agree with the other reviewers. I'm giving this little place a 5 star for a combination of reasons: 1. I was there for a long time and they didn't mind. 2. The people who work there are super nice. The woman who took my order(s) and the man who, upon getting someone's order confused with another order was super apologetic and came out to the woman's table and said "I hope you are not mad. . ." 3. The food tastes very down to earth--no heavy processing, oversalting, or cooking, etc. I had coffee and a tomato and rice soup. The sandwiches looked really good. 4. Pastries are from Balthazar (a little sign by the register says so). 5. Free wifi! 6. Regular coffee tasted good--not burnt or weak. Straight-forward. Surprising how hard it is to find good plain ol' coffee. 7. Good value. I camped out here with my computer and worked for a long while. what a sweet chill and supportive oasis for my espresso addiction needs. for a more relaxed enviro that has sleek interior with clean modern lines and free wi-fi. i recommend this place. in fact, i am sipping my iced macchiato as we speak, slurping away, content and productive. i'm being a good urban robot and telegraphe is re-fueling me and i am thankful... minus one star because i was told they close in ten minutes. come on people. it's only 6:50pm. i got shit to do! One of my favorite cafes in the city. The staff are always friendly, particularly the nice French lady (owner? manager?) who brings out the sandwiches. The avocado and egg salad on croissant is fantastic. Round it out with a rugelach and a large coffee and you have my perfect Telegraphe breakfast. read more

Cute, busy coffee shop just off the big-box shopping stretch of 6th Avenue. Solid coffee, decent WiFi, and despite the constant influx of java-heads, you can squat for a while and get some work done. There was a variety of people making for interesting background noise--most notably a male model meeting with a jewelry designer who brought his box of samples. read more

Such a welcome break today to sit and enjoy a meal outside. I was hungry and tired, but in the pandemic, there weren't many safe options in the area besides eating from a food cart on the street. Got friendly service and good recommendations at the counter, and enjoyed the egg sandwich with swiss cheese, roasted red pepper and onion on a multigrain hero. They brought it to my outside table, steaming hot, and I ate while cozy and protected from a light rain under their open and roofed structure. The number one problem with this place: a large shortage of seating. There are four small tables in a corner and a counter in front of the window with seating as well. Learn to share tables! I was able to get half a table, which was just enough space to highlight my school notes and have my meal during lunch hour. I like this place, they don't have obnoxious music playing, they have a tv going, but it's not loud, and the food is not bad either. I got a half sandwich and cup of soup. The cup of soup was a generous amount. I think that was all I needed. The sandwich I got was smoked salmon with brie. It had apples and raisins in it, and I didn't like the raisins, but they were easy to pick out. It needs more brie! The brie was a small slice that covered less than half the sandwich. The coffee was good. I didn't get anything fancy - just a regular cup of joe, and it was very smooth and full of flavor. Would I come back again? Most probably - if I am in the neighborhood again, I may choose this over Grounded next time! read more

I was in the area for a class and was roaming around looking for a quick bite to eat -- we only 30 min. I stumbled past this trendy looking place not expecting much. I'm glad to say that the young woman behind the counter was sweet and the service quick. At this point, I only had 15 min to get eat and get back. I ordered 1/2 a vegetarian sandwich and an iced coffee with soy milk. The sandwich came out super quick. I was surprised at how nutty and flavorful the whole grain bread was and it complimented the fresh veggies and balsamic dressing well. I'm happy to say that the coffee was really good also and didn't taste like yesterday's coffee. read more

This place was my second try for coffee today. After colombe in soho, I thought I'd give another new place a shot. Who knows maybe I'll be surprised. Riding my bike up to the curb, there's a cute mural painted on the building. It's no brooklyn street art, more like a bed bath and beyond extension. But hey everyone has different taste in art. The cafe looked cute, but empty. At any rate I sidled up and ordered an espresso, paid and grabbed a seat. There's wifi and the pwd is the phone number, as the lady behind the counter was so helpful to point out. Moments later, up pops my espresso. My first thought, it looks like a shot from a deli. Watery, without the crema and striations one grows to love about top notch barrista pulled shots. The taste was bleh. I didn't finish it, but dialed up Yelp and found Joe HQ only two blocks away. Yelp! doesn't let you give 11 stars. They should. Telegraphe Espresso Bar is one of those places that we all wish existed more in Manhattan. A truly unique (watch, it's a major chain that everyone knows about but me), affordable (a bit more than Starbucks, but worth it), mom-n-pop type joint. In a borough full of diners that all serve the same pizza burger (yech!) and delis that all serve the same stale bread choices (we only have rolls) it brings a smile to my face to be able to waltz into this place, lay down $4 and come out with one of the best egg sandwiches that $4 can buy in the city. They wrap it up for me to bring back to the office, and there's not one ounce of grease anywhere. It's 2 or 3 fluffy over-easy eggs on a croissant (or multigrain roll), lightly salted and peppered. They stick it in a bag. I can literally smell the eggs on the street. That good smell. That smell that fresh eggs give off. A smell we haven't smelled since the 50s. And the iced coffee is delicious. Far better than Starbucks and about the same price. Finally - free wi-fi? Amazing. An amazing, normal, non-robotic (Venti low-foam hi-fat skim 1/2 pump vanilla latte extra room for milk. This place has good cafe au lait, and good service. With tables and counter space to fit about 15-20 people comfortably, Telegraphe is a good place to park yourself if you need to do some work on their free wifi, if you need to grab a quick bite to eat in between sample sales, or if you just want to chill and get your caffeine fix. The clean bathrooms are also a good resource if you're in the area and need to go. Yes, this place is small. The tables are really close together, so probably not ideal for secret service agents to talk business without compromising national security. But, for the rest of us New Yorkers who are used to the invasion of private space, it's not unbearable. read more

I ordered the egg and vegetable sandwich on a multigrain roll ($5.35) The sandwich was substantially sized, much larger than I expected on a 'roll'. I requested egg whites for an additional charge of $.40. I am used to getting slapped with a $2-$3 charge but was ecstatic to see how reasonable it was here. I will be a regular here. Ok, so this review is only for the espresso as that is the only thing I had. Reviewing a cafe after having just the espresso may be a little premature, but as it is difficult to find excellent espresso (in my opinion) in the city, I thought I'd write. This is only the second place I've been able to find that serves good espresso (Zibetto's on 56th and 6th being the other place). The crema excellent, the flavor smooth with just enough bite. If you see a thin, tall guy w/ New York accent, you might recognize him a the thin, tall guy w/ New York accent from Zibetto's because he used to be there. He brews coffee as a hobby. How brilliant! Walking into Telegraphe by mistake, a beautiful, spontaneous idea. Hell yes. I ordered: The salmon-brie salad (half size was a perfect portion for lil' ole me.) And boy, did it dance on the inside of my mouth, I tell you what. They serve coffee and tea in such adorably huge mugs, you really gotta try 'em (and stay there, please!) 'Cause the atmosphere is so calm and quiet, the seats are comfy, and the baristas are all smiles. I brought my laptop there, yes siree, and I didn't have to worry about a slow connection, lack of seating, or any of that mess of espresso-bar-connotation. P.S. I consider myself a Brooklyn coffee shop snob, but Telegraphe Espresso Bar in Manhattan is admittedly pretty terrific. The coffee is excellent, but the food is the real star--great soups and sandwiches (with first rate vegetarian options) tasty chocolate chip cookies, brownies, etc. The service is truly pleasant and accommodating. A very sleek, clean coffee shop/caf -- I love the minimalist look of this place, and it's modern without being overly trendy or pretentious. Laidback and chill without sacrificing style? They also play movies on TV -- they were playing "Breakfast at Tiffany's" when I stopped by, which was a nice touch. I am a huge fan of small cafes. Especially ones like Telegraphe where the staff is friendly and laid back. To me cafes are supposed to be little neigborhood hideaways and even though Telegraphe is in a pretty high-traffic shopping area it manages to maintain some charm. As I mentioned, the staff was extremely friendly...even when I took quite a while to finally decide what I wanted. My cappuccino was pretty solid if only a little bitter for my taste. I ordered the soup combo and was surprised to see that they actual give you a substantial amount of soup! I had the Caprese sandwich, which is a pretty standard cafe offering, along with the black bean soup. The sandwich was fresh and good...nothing too extraordinary but the soup was fantastic! I'm not sure I'd go there to read/work because the space is a little cramped for my taste but for lunch or coffee with friends it's a definite possibility. And I'll abosolutely be back for the soup! read more

I was at an event next door at the Altman building and stopped in here on a break for a cappuccino and a macaron. Both were excellent! The staff is very friendly here. I asked for one macaron and was accidentally charged for two. I said - no problem just give me two - he gave me three! They are delicious, although extra sweet so you probably just need one. It's a pretty small cafe that doesn't have a lot of seating, so I may consider just stopping in on your way somewhere else. read more

This is my fifth Yelp entry of my Tuesday coffeeshop series. Apparently, this place gets pretty packed during weekday lunch. Seating for people with their laptops is quite limited. I wouldn't plan on it in the future. It is more of a place to order your food to go and eat someplace else. I somehow managed to score a two-top near the corner of the place but had to give a lapdance in order to squeeze on by to the booth area. And no, I don't mean a LITERAL lapdance, silly. It is just cramped in the seating area. There is also barstool-type seating along the windowed side. Telegraphe has an assortment of coffee drinks, quiches, salads, sandwiches and a couple of sweet treats. I opted for the half sandwich and soup deal. The soup is from Hale and Hearty and I had the ten vegetable soup, which is delicious. I was not entirely impressed with my veggie sandwich served on a baguette roll. There was cucumber, roasted red bell peppers, slices of tomato, and avocado...topped with what I believe to be balsamic vinaigrette. I sat next to a party of two with a quiche and salad combo and it looked more delicious than what I had ordered. So maybe I will order that next time. I love this place, especially as a space to get some work done outside of my apartment. Free wifi, good food and drinks, and super friendly staff. I usually grab a sandwich on the olive focaccia bread--usually prosciutto and brie or turkey swiss. I was helped by a very kind man with a French accent who helped me with picking one of their soups for my Salmon and Brie. I got everything to go and they took great consideration in placing the items in a paper bag, rolling it up, and then stapling it to keep things from moving about. In a matter of minutes I was served and on my way. BOUGHT: - Fantastic Lentil Soup & Half Salmon/Brie on Baguette ($8.95) - Large Coffee ($2.25) - Chocolate Chip Cookie ($1.35) For $13.34 I had a nice gourmet lunch. Not bad at all. That is one of the many things that Telegraphe Café does well. And they do it on gluten free bread. Their soups are solid, and their salads are also great. They are a tad expensive, IF you are comparing to the crappy nearby restaurants that serve sub par soup and sandwiches. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR YELPERS. LET'S BE REALISTIC. As to the service, Anna, and Stephanie, and all the other staff that I've been overly chatty with, they are friendly and eager to please. They remember my name, they make sure I get my high maintenance gluten free order down right. They messed up my order once, and were super apologetic and made sure I had free soup next time I came in. Their espresso and coffee is pretty good, not amazing. Often a bit over hot and a little bitter. But totally drinkable. I have crazy high standards on coffee. This review has to have a little constructive criticism, right? Only docking a half star, so it still rounds up to 5. Next time you are hitting up 6th Avenue, stop in here for breakfast or lunch, you won't be sorry. Very intimate. The servers are really really nice. I have been here at least 5 times without any problems. You can carryout or dine in with lovely plates and trays. The selection of sandwiches is lovely and so are the drinks. Hot and Cold. I like their coffee and their Caprese Sandwich! This cafe boasts a stylish hip decor, all the while exuding the coziness of an airport lounge (if there is such a thing and I believe there is). Two signature items that have me coming back for more are 1.) Cappuccino- a frothy delight with exceptional balance and flavor. I'm not sure what espresso they're brewing but it certainly put a smile on my face. 2.) the little treats are delectable and unforgettable. I wolfed down a minimally messy apple turnover which was warm, fresh and oozing with apple sauce. 3.) Power Strips for charging laptops or phones- how generous are these folks?! You no longer have to struggle to find an outlet. Do come back for second, thirds and fourths. A business crowd holds down the fort primarily in the afternoons and you'll feel removed from the city rush amidst a cozy, albeit cramped, booth. Horrible. I came in on a hot, humid day. I was looking for a comfy place to do a little work and thought I would give em a try. I wasn't quite ready to order my drink just but just sat for a bit with my laptop at one of their few tables for about 15 minutes and was in full intention of buying a drink. I would never use a place without making a purchase. Anyway, I don't know if she was the owner or manager or just an employee...she had a bit of a foreign accent, not exactly sure from where. She asked me if I was going to buy a drink in a very rude tone and I told her I would in a bit. Every few minutes I could feel her staring at me from my peripheral vision pressuring me to buy something. Then about 10 minutes later, when the cafe was completely EMPTY, she says to me I can't stay if I don't buy something. I was just so blown away by her rudeness and complete lack of professionalism that I looked at her directly and said to her, that NOW, of course I'm not buying a drink!!! Why would i??? As a service industry person, you would realize you you're not losing money by having me sit there, you don't even know who I am. And not to mention there is no one else in your stinking place!!! I'm a fan. The cafe is on the small side, feels casual and quaint. Doesn't have the overdone, pretenscious or too hip vibe of a lot of places in the area, and the prices are not obscene either. Ice coffee here is delicious, and for some $3 seems pricey for just a coffee, but they serve it in the large size container and don't overload it with ice :) The cookie, pastry and sandwich selection seems pretty decent here too. Lots of vegetarian variety. The workers have always been very friendly. Free wifi and bathroom. What else could you ask for in a little cafe? read more
