Fantastic food! I had the prosciutto salad for lunch one day and the chilled gazpacho the next. Both were perfect portions, tasty and very fast service. The folks that work there are super friendly and, if they aren't sure of an answer, they ask someone who does (love that)!. Small space (I ate alone both times, so I didn't mind the nice window bar seating that faced the street......great natural light and enough space where you aren't elbow to elbow with your neighbor), but there is table seating. I was brought here by a friend and was immediately bombarded with the smell of fresh coffee and sweets. I ordered half a procciutto and brie sandwich and a hot chocolate with whipped cream. Both were spectacular and made for a good midafternoon snack. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and so were the staff. I highly recommend it! Solid food and coffee. The staff are lovely. A little tuck-away to get a bite and a sip of coffee. It takes a while, they make prepare everything to order so sometimes there's a wait. Stopped in for an afternoon java jolt last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by what we found. Good coffee served in big, bowl-like mugs and one of the best rugelach I've ever had. The coconut macaroon was very good, too. Lots of people were getting lunchy food like soups and sandwiches, and as I craned to get better views of their food I noted that it all looked very appetizing. The unusual dishes they use make it all seem more chic. Looks like there could sometimes be a wait for seats, depending on time of day and flow of patrons. I've worked next door to Telegraphe for 2 years now, and each week I'm more thankful I do. The best thing about it is the service: like I said in my old review, the staff seems earnestly happy to be there. I've also seen staff members walk in midday with Trader Joe's bags. Makes me happy to know the food is fresh. Their lattes are much better than the new Think that opened up a few blocks down! They're about 50 cents cheaper, too. Small but clean and comfortable space. That goes for the bathroom too, which is important! I wasn't impressed by the coffee selection or menu items. Decaf was out for the day so I got a regular and I ended up throwing out 1/3 of the coffee- it just didn't do it for me. Got an iced coffee - it was good. Also got one of their chocolate chip cookies. Tasted fine - but it was the hard chocolate-chip cookies, not soft. I never actually got to taste their food. I ordered a Caprese Sandwich - which was described as "Tomato, Mozzarella, and avocado." When it finally came out, I eagerly opened it exciting to take a bite because everything looked homemade and awesome - but I noticed there was no avocado. Instead there was a slice of cucumber. I went to counter and mentioned that the description said there was avocado and there was none on mine, to which they replied - "The avocados were too hard so we replaced it with a cucumber." I said that it would have been nice if someone had mentioned that to me when I placed the order, as the avocado was really the draw for me ordering this $10 sandwich. (I had also had a long conversation about the sandwich with the cashier and which bread would go best with it.). They said "We reserve the right to change the menu at any time." I mentioned that while that may be, the chance that menu would change wasn't mentioned anywhere and they should at least have alerted me before I paid and when I placed the order. They said - sorry, and I said "wow - this is extremely disappointing" they said sorry again with no offer to exchange it or give me a refund or anything. I'm sorry - but a cucumber is NOT an avocado. It does not have the texture or taste of an avocado, and I figured part of the $11 cost was due to avocado - which is expensive these days where a cucumber is super inexpensive. At any rate, it wasn't until I burst out into tears (It had been a long day) that the owner finally said - give me the sandwich I'll give you your money back. Acting like it was the biggest inconvenience, she took my receipt and handed me $10.07 cash - which is fine though I had paid via card. And took the sandwich. Didn't ask if I'd like something else or anything. It was ABYSMAL customer service. I strongly believe in simply being honest. A cucumber is NOT an avocado - and for someone SUPER excited about an avocado - as that was a main ingredient listed - getting an unexpected cucumber was ---- incredibly disappointing - and having the owner assume I wouldn't notice (Because we all eat mozzarella and cumber sandwiches?) or care and act like it was a huge inconvenience to her that I DID notice the sandwich was not what was described was just - disappointing and hurtful. What is the saddest part perhaps is - if they had simply told me there was no avocado (Despite them actually being in season according to GROWNYC) I really wouldn't have minded and would probably have said no worried leave it off OR more likely ordered something else. But the fact they didn't alert me and just expected me to be fine with the change and acted inconvenienced when I noticed there was no avocado and instead a cucumber - was just upsetting. I'm also a licensed NY City tour guide who does city tours and food tours, so I was excited to have a place to send customers when the line at City Bakery got too long, but knowing that they are not up front and honest and were so weird when I showed them their product was not as described means I cannot in good faith ever recommend this to anyone, and in fact need to tell my clients to stay away. The food looked good - but come on - you can't describe a sandwich one way and deliver something else and then act inconvenienced and be so unaccommodating when the customer points out that their Caprese sandwich which is supposed to be mozzarella, tomato, and avocado has no avocado in it. It also makes me wonder, as I have known people who work in coffee shops, if they are being dishonest about other products. SURE THIS IS DECAF when the barista is actually maybe not sure which cup was decaf or not. SURE this is skim. SURE this is soy. We reserve the right to change order last minute. My barista friends have described being pressured to do this by owners of small coffee shops, so if they do something like exchange avocado for a cucumber, and explain they reserve the right to change the menu at any point, it just makes you wonder what else they are maybe being less than up front about. I HATE to write such a scathing review, and I usually make a point to write POSITIVE reviews. But this was really and incredibly disappointing experience. And it all could have been made better by a little more friendly or honest service. read more

Great Chai Latte... up there with the best of them. Unfortunately this is not really a "sit and lounge" cafe. Rather stark and basic, reminiscint of a business take-away coffee place. There were a few tables in a nook that people seemed to linger at, however. This is a good in-and-out place, but there isn't much ambiance for a good linger on a lazy afternoon. I would go back if I were running off somewhere and wanted to grab a quick to-go-er. Otherwise, find another local cafe! read more

I will go an extra star since the WiFi password is taped to the front of the register. Plus it is probably a good place to meet new people - it is so narrow a space that you are forced to acknowledge the other customers. Nice looking crowd. Seating is limited - the average Starbucks is more comfortable. Regular coffee was OK but certainly not special. The chocolate croissant was ordinary. The bill was $5.00 so maybe I should not complain. Counter service is fast and friendly. Are they French? If so it explains the croissants - they were probably deported :) For a really good croissant, go to Cafe Prague instead. I did not notice any background music. read more

This quaint little French cafe is a Chelsea gem. Strong coffees, delicious and hearty breakfast options, flavorful sandwiches, salads and soups...all served up by the most darling, hardworking French couple you ever did see. I think I like this spot because it smacks of old world Europe...almost as if cell phones and the internet cease to exist when you step foot in the door. Situation: Needed some place to kill time before an appointment so I just found this place while wandering along 18th street. Ordered a Chai. PROS -Very, very quaint place with a "hole-in-the-wall" atmosphere. The staff is welcoming but not overbearing. -Delicious Chai. Definitely among the top 20% of Chai's I've had in terms of flavour. -Decent space to bring your laptop or a book, and just veg out for a little. The guy sitting next to me was working on his programming. CONS -None that I noted. In a nutshell... Am definitely bookmarking this place for another visit some time when I'm in the area. I really really like this place. My girlfriend and I have been going here for a while now and I figured it's time to write a positive review. Friendly customer service, an actual oasis from the busy bee area, and consistently good food for a very reasonable price. What more could you want from a lunch spot in an area drowned with chains? The surf videos are a nice quirky touch and we LOVE their jam filled cookies and hot chocolate. The only con is the seating and design, but it's an odd space to work with anyway. P.S. After a quick scan of other reviews, I know I'm not the only person to describe Telegraphe as an oasis. You really do feel like you've escaped from the midtown madness just outside on 7th Ave. I like that the sandwiches come in halves, but my half-nicoise sandwich was also as big as a full-sized that you might get at a similar sort of place. I was there a little later in the day, around 3:00 pm, but it wasn't crowded at all. I was able to sit and enjoy my green tea, which also came in a generous portion. Only gripe: the toilet paper is awful! More like low-grade copier paper than tp. Dear Telegraphe, I intend to be a repeat customer, and I hope that some of that extra revenue might go towards something a little nicer. read more

This is a cute little place in Chelsea neighborhood not far from the Rubin museum. I have met my mentor here last month for our very first meeting and cannot complain. The place is cozy and conveniently located close to the 23rd street station on the F and M lines. Easy to locate and they have a sizable selection of beverages and bakery items. I wanted to get a quick lunch around 1:30-2pm. This is literally next door to where I work so I stepped out after reading about the Proscuitto and Brie sandwich. It is to die for.
