Still as good as I remember. All three dishes we ordered were loved by each diner. The chef brings a lot of artistry to each dish, so not only does the food taste amazing, it looks gorgeous. And my enormous burrito de suadero (pictured here) tasted even better as leftovers tonight (half of one of these will fill you up). The wait times for food are a little long, so not a great choice if you're in a rush, but definitely worth the wait if you've got time. My one wish is that they served regular coffee. Cafe de Olla is all they serve, which is just too sweet for me. I know I'm not alone on this. Breakfast without coffee is a bit of a bummer. But the Jamaica with a splash of lemonade was REALLY good. read more

The food was so flavorful and delicious. We got the beans w chorizo dip and the chilaquiles, we added suadero, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The sauce was called guajillo and it was a little bit spicy and citrusy. The servers were super attentive and kind. Would definitely eat here again. read more

I finally tried this restaurant out yesterday. I ordered enchiladas de pollo, tacos dorados de carne and green chilaquiles. The presentation was nice but the food itself was just okay. Maybe I had high expectations based on the reviews OR maybe because I ordered the food to-go. From all three, the enchiladas were my favorite but they weren't anything special. The tacos dorados were a bit of a let down because the ends of the taquitos were burnt so the burnt flavor overpowered the rest of the ingredients. The chilaquiles were good but I expected something else. Again, the reviews hyped this place up for me. All three items came out to $53. I am willing to come back to try other entrees and in-person to see if that makes the difference. I also want to support small businesses in this neighborhood. FYI, if you're planning on dining-in, keep in mind that they have about 5-6 small tables inside and 2 small tables outside. When we picked up our food on a Saturday afternoon, all but 1 table was occupied inside so you might have to wait to get seated especially on a weekend. read more

Finally visited this place, I had the chile guajillo chilaquiles with suadero on the side. Tasty although I felt they needed more cheese. I added chile de árbol they offer to my plate. We also tried the tomatillo chilaquiles they could have had some chile along with the tomatillo. Waiter was attentive and gave us suggestions. We came on a Sunday and around 10:00 the restaurant was quickly filling up. read more

Delicious! Will be going back. The enchilada sauce was spicy and flavorful. Can't wait to go back and try more! Amazing. Felt like I ate at someone's home. The food was great. We started off with beans that was topped with a sesame and chile, pepita sauce that was amazing. The chilaquiles were great. In house made salsa. The service was attentive and told us about the food and the restaurant. The ambiance was really cool. The music was not too loud and the feel was relaxed and chill. This place is next level great. My friend and I were expecting the traditional menu at a small hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in Boyle Heights. Instead, we got unique flavors, exceptional food, and a place where heart is in all the cooking. First, who expects a smash burger at a Mexican Restaurant? Well, this was anything but a regular smash burger. This one came with caramelized onion, a unique cheese sauce and onion ash mayo. It may be hard to get yourself to order this, but you must. The mole was the best I have ever had. The salsas, enchiladas, and everything else we ate were exceptional. You can tell that they love what they are doing and care about what they put out there. The place is tiny, but it's part of the experience. You should go. read more

I don't usually write reviews right after leaving, but this place is truly a standout and deserves one. Service: Excellent from start to finish! It's been a while since we've experienced such attentive service. We were seated immediately, and our drinks arrived just as quickly. The staff, though young, were all smiles and greeted us with a warm "Good morning!" (A rare touch these days). Our waiter was knowledgeable and gave us great insights into the menu. Ambiance: It's a small space, but it's clean, well-kept, and has a cozy, inviting feel. Food: We ordered the green chilaquiles with suadero and the guajillo chilaquiles with suadero. Both salsas were spot on--not too spicy but with just the right amount of kick. The meat was tender and juicy, complementing the flavors perfectly. We also had iced café de olla, which was refreshingly delicious. And just when we thought the meal couldn't get better, we were treated to Flan--absolutely heavenly and the perfect finish to a great brunch. I came here on a weekend and I was extremely excited to try a local spot in the heart of Boyle heights however the service I received was not good. One of my employees here (I attached the photo) was offended and bothered that I asked if my mother and I can move tables. My mother has a disability and is unable to see clearly so we asked to sit where there was more lighting as their dining area isn't bright. After I asked him if we can move, he started to act rude towards me and ignored my mother and I meanwhile he quickly attended his regular customers. I shouldn't have to explain that my mother has a disability in order for him to understand. It was extremely unprofessional behavior. Area inside is outdated and food was okay, their menu is small and the service was also slow. Don't be fooled by the reviews, the reviews are from their families and friends who have biased opinions. There are much better restaurants nearby to try that offer better customer service. read more

Wow que sabroso. We had the chilaquiles de mole, verdes and guajillo all of which were excellent and executed beautifully. The guajillo was the standout for the touch of salsa macha on top. I also had the enfrijoladas de chorizo which were such a fresh and vibrant take of a comforting dish. They add a lemony herby crema on top that adds a fun flare. The place is small and parking is tricky but don't let that discourage you it well worth the effort! read more

WOW what a gem in east la ! Located on 1st no designated parking for the restaurant , probably be best to find parking by the homes nearby cause that can be a bit of a struggle . Service was on point , the waiter was super nice , I ate outside which was cool right smack on 1st street nothing crazy , didn't step inside ! So not sure of how it looked , sorry ! Decided to go with the mole enchiladas and one of their shared plates . WOW really quality food . I love the shared plate I got it was veggies, potatoes sautéed up with like creamy cheese sauce & almonds .. WOW! The mole enchiladas were good as well. Flan was nice , not too sweet just perfect ! 5 Stars: The food. It was amazing. We had the suadero wet burrito with half and half sauce. It was huge, it was meaty, it was fresh, it was delicious. We also had the chilaquiles with salsa verde. This was also great. The salsa was bright and addicting. The eggs were well cooked. The onions and radish added a nice punch. The flavors of both dishes were rich and complex. You could tell they were designed and prepared with care. 3 Stars: The wait. We waited 1 hour for our food. We heard the owner tell another table that things were slow because it was a scratch kitchen (everything made from scratch for each dish - he didn't tell us this, but glad I overheard it... he wasn't as friendly with us as he was with other tables....). I respect that but just... be prepared to wait if you're there at a prime time (we were there 1pm on a Sunday). Maybe it's different on a weekday. We were starving by the time our food came and devoured it, so no food waste I guess! Next time, I'd probably get food to go or try to come at a less busy time. We saw people who arrived after we were done and they got their food more quickly. read more

Tiny place and it's walk-in. Yet somehow, we've always gotten a table. A parking spot is another thing. Sometimes lucky, sometimes not. So leave plenty of time. This is a truly special place. Family run. Personal service. And really amazing food. The kind of place, people and food you don't forget. But you shouldn't go because I won't get a table if you do. Look at the photos! Local restaurant found through Yelp. Service was great, our server Anthony was friendly, humorous and inviting. Family run business. Food was great, presentation was nice and wait was short. Anthony explained that everything was made there, nothing canned or from a bag, the flavors and textures of the food proved it. You could tell they took pride in what they served. Would definitely recommend and we will be going back soon. As a Boyle Heights resident I'm glad we have places like this in our area! The food is DELICIOUS! I recommend trying the chorizo torta and chilaquiles. Apparently the smash burger is really good too and I can't wait to go back and try it. The food is so flavorful and comes out fresh - takes sometime for them to bring out the food because of that reason. The place isn't huge but homely. Our server Anthony was friendly, helpful and attentive. If you're lucky, you might be able to find street parking. I will definitely go back to try other menu items and flan. read more

We went during the week for breakfast and there was nobody in there which was nice lol It was our first time there and what drew me to this place was that everything is homemade. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by the server and he explained everything that was on the menu. He was super sweet and very knowledgeable. We ordered the chilaquiles de mole with suadero.. 10/10 so freaking good! And humongous portion! We could've easily shared a plate. My gf got chilaquiles divorciados with the spicy green and red sauce. She added chorizo which was also delicious! Everything on the menu sounded so good and the cafe de olla smelled delicious but we didn't order any cause we had previously had coffee lol I'd definitely be coming back tho!!! Finally made it to Tenampal, and it did not disappoint! I tried both the **huarache** and the **smash burger**, and they were absolutely amazing. The huarache was packed with flavor the handmade masa base had that perfect balance of chewiness and crisp, topped with fresh ingredients that really made it stand out. And the smash burger? Easily one of the best I've had. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, with crispy edges that brought the whole thing together. What really made the experience even better was the host, **Anthony**. He was fantastic he took the time to explain the entire menu in detail, recommending the best dishes, and really making us feel at home. I'm happy to see folks from the city making their mark!! This place hits all the notes. Delicious food, great service, plentiful portions and passion in every plate. The vibes are definitely on high. Great for a chill brunch for 2 or a squad reunion after some serious drinks the night prior. Whole menu is fire. Burrito put me down like that bear did Leo in that movie. I'm still recovering as I type!! Huarache was just on point! Tacos dorados equally! Their use of suadero is masterful. And lastly. It's the little things. Server was attentive always engaging. Anthony is a star! I took my partner here on a date recently. We arrived before they opened and Anthony asked us to wait while they finished prepping but made sure to bring us some water while we waited. Once they opened, he got us seated promptly and guided us in our ordering since it was our first time. We started with iced cafe de ollá and the seared summer squash special. Then they got the chilaquiles and I got the huevos rancheros. The portions were so generous that we ran out of appetite. So we boxed a lot of it up and took two orders of the pecan flan home to share. Everything was so tasty! I want to go back to try more things. read more

I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon - busy but we managed to get a table outside! The staff was very polite and kind and was helping us as quickly as they could. Found this little place when exploring Boyle Heights. A pleasant experience with delicious food. Ordered the moly chicken enchiladas and it was so good without being overly sweet and the chicken was tender and fresh. The egg on top was a nice surprise. It looked at first over easy but was happy to see that it was actually cooked to perfection. The café de olla was very satisfying on this cool day. The best flavor of cinnamon and coffee. This place is so cute & the food and coffee is bomb! A cozy local spot. Make sure you check their IG for the most accurate hours of operation!! I'd recommend the chilaquiles - some of the best I've ever had! I will add that one day I was sitting outside on a very hot day and privately complained to my partner that the food was taking long (we waited maybe 30 mins for seating + food together) - I think we're allowed that lol. It's not like I went up to the employees and complained or anything. We were sitting next to the ordering window and I guess the employee heard us, and he was SUPER passive aggressive when he brought us our food. It was a little unsettling and annoying to be honest, especially because I sincerely love this restaurant and think their food is phenomenal! We ate and left, and even with this experience I'd still totally recommend it. I just think the employees should keep their responses in check with customers and not create an uncomfortable environment. read more

What made the evening even more disappointing was the lack of hospitality. When we expressed our frustration about the long waits, we were told they were busy inside--as if sitting outside somehow explained or justified the delays. Had we been informed that outside service would be significantly slower, we could have made an informed decision or at least adjusted our expectations. Even more surprising, during a meal that lasted over two and a half hours, not one manager or member of leadership stopped by to apologize, check on our experience, or acknowledge the obvious service issues. Overall, the food was average at best, with a couple of standout appetizers, but nothing that justified the lengthy wait or made us eager to return. Service and hospitality are just as important as the food, and unfortunately both fell well short of expectations. Based on this experience, it's highly unlikely that we'll be back.

However a coupe of people were getting take out and they left and I was brave and asked a couple who was at a 6 top if we could sit with them and they said yes. Majority of people there had soup on their table so how could we not order the pozole and I'm glad we did! It was great! Our burrito and torta were great as well. Something about being in the hot crowded room watching the ladies making the magic happen in the kitchen is so special. Hubs loved his horchata and my Jamaica was crisp and delicious!

I really enjoy my bowl of menudo it was very good the meat was very tender that I really enjoy I like lemon,onion,oregano add it flavor to the menudo. My wife enjoy her chorizo plate she like the rice and beans it a very good rich flavor but chorizo was ok she say it didn't have a good chorizo flavor but she like it. Last time we came, for two plates and one drink we got charged $50 this time around we ordered the same and paid $34. Their pricing practices are very suspicious. They only offer Zelle or cash, and they don't offer you an actual itemized bill, which has given me a really bad impression on this business. If you come, make sure you pay attention to what you order or they will over charge you a ridiculous amount.
