I ordered from this place tonight and boy do I have a lot of things to say about it. The one redeeming quality is that the order was supposed to arrive at 9PM and it actually showed up around 8:30. I ordered a piece of yellowtail, an avocado roll, a tuna hand roll, and an avocado salad. I also ordered an extra side of ginger dressing. First thing I noticed is that the avocado rolls were basically falling apart. None of them were tightly wrapped at all. It's pretty hard to mess up a vegetable roll for which you already have reasonably low expectations, so that was strike one. Next I noticed that the avocado on my salad was overripe. It was mushy in some spots and hard in others. It wasn't horrible but the seemingly not fresh bed of lettuce it was on only served to augment that fact. Strike two. The tuna hand roll was just ok, but the yellowtail piece made me legitimately nervous. It had a weird look to it up close and smelled a little off. Needless to say, I ended up throwing it out. Bonus: normally, I could essentially bathe in ginger dressing. I could hardly stomach any of this one (to add insult to injury, I had ordered extra, which they upcharge at this place). It was very thin and weirdly tangy. No thanks. HERES THE KICKER. As I was throwing out the bag, I noticed they had OVERCHARGED me. My Seamless order was exactly $27 (a rip off for the above, as it was) and it ended up being $27.75. I'm not going to call and complain about 75 cents but seriously? Enough. I definitely won't be ordering from this place again any time soon. read more

Came here for lunch with a former boss and colleage. The place looks nice but they definitely need to invest on some new chairs. Food wise: the sushi was decent and their bento box are large portions that comes with soup, salad and a california roll. I ordered the 3 maki rolls lunch special for $12.50 (eel avocado, spicy tuna, and yellowtail scallion) which deserve the 3 stars. Like all 3 stars, "it's ok". OMG. Delicious! The whole fam and I are in the city for the holidays so of course my brother who's from NYC has a list of restos for us to try. This is one of the tops! Granted Japanese is top on our list. We were 8 people and ordered different items on the menu such as sashimi platter, a couple of Chirashi, a couple of Unagidon, a plate of noodles, a couple of rolls and some other food... it was delicious! &&generous portions! Sushi was fresh. Unagidon was so good and big! Service was quick, some meals came with soup or salad, and I love that asian restos have soda in bottles! This is a dramatic 360 but I honestly never wanted to puke from eating sushi until today. I ordered the eel avocado roll and received an eel cucumber roll. Okay, fine, that's seriously fine. But, then I bit into my roll and the cucumber was soggy AND the eel had a bunch of bones (see pic). I couldn't make it through without gagging. We came here for dinner on a weekend, the place wasn't too busy. We were able to see relatively quickly. The person I was with ordered something on the menu, turns out they were out of the item so we did not decide to order a replacement for that one item. The place was pretty loud pretty busy and there was a large group talking very loudly next to us. The food was mediocre nothing to rave about, the tempura was so-so. I probably would not be back, the experience wasn't that great and the food was nothing to emphasize about. The prices were moderate, but they ran out of one of the items in which we tried to order. I will try somewhere else next time as this was not a good choice for dinner on that special night. read more

However after eating them, i had really bad stomach ache and later discovered that I had food poisoning(very painful!!) my mom, who ate these with me also threw up. I got the rolls special, and when I complained that one of the rolls wasn't good and very fishy, the guy basically said I'm wrong as there's nothing wrong with it, refused to give me a break on the bill and said because I ate more than one piece, there's nothing he can do about it. I didn't even care about the discount, I just hated the way he talked to me, and honestly, he can't afford to act this way in the middle of New York City where competition is so high. I didn't eat anything because the Sushi Lunch had black hairs allover yellowtail nigiri. I got my refund from Seamless but my family & I are absolutely disgusted. I have ordered sushi from here and have enjoyed it. But was in the mood for chicken teriyaki. It was inedible. The chicken was not sliced properly and was so over-cooked I couldn't really chew it. Fantastic spot for lunch specials and very reasonably priced. You'll get seated quickly and your food comes out without too long of a wait. I typically will do the 2 or 3 roll lunch special which comes with a soup or salad. If I'm hungrier, I'll go for the lunch box platter which has several sides and is about the same price. read more

We have been to Tenzan many times and have always had a good experience. This time, it was different. We ordered 6 rolls, of which 2 were special rolls. My seat was facing the chefs so I could see them making sushi and preparing the plates. Right after our shumai appetizer came, I noticed the chefs sat out in front of them an empty table a platter of 6 rolls, which I thought were ours. 20/25 minutes pass and the plate is still sitting there, nobody has touched it. Finally, I see the waiter bringing it over, and I tell him that our plate of raw fish has just been sitting there for 20/25 minutes, which is definitely not a good thing for raw fish. He asks if we would like them to remake it and, to be safe, we say yes. 2 minutes later the waiter comes back with the plate, which was clearly just reorganized because there is NO WAY you can remake 6 rolls in 2 minutes. I found that incredibly disrespectful and felt like the waiter was treating us like idiots. Because of that, we will not be returning to Tenzan anytime soon. A waiter should never lie to your face, and bring you something that you asked to be remade since it was sitting out for a long time. read more

Tenzan offers a more varied menu than a lot of the Japanese/sushi places in the area. The sushi is fresh and the portions are generous. I especially love their hot stone appetizers.The ambiance is relaxing. Minus one star for inconsistent service. The last waitress I got never bothered to check on us during the meal and then left us high and dry at the end when we were done. We were going to order dessert but she threw our doggy bag at us and ran off without even asking if we wanted to see the dessert menu or if we wanted the check. I went to Tenzan for my sister's birthday. It happens to be her favorite restaurant. I'm not going to lie, SUSHI was fresh and delicious. I had a great time. I ordered a bunch of rolls for myself because I knew that I was hungry. I had a toro scallion roll, fried oyster roll, philly salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, dragon roll, and tuna avocado roll. Went here for lunch yesterday - service was super-fast - got seated right away, menus right away, and food came out quickly .. definitely a good spot to go to for lunch during the work day. Everything was excellent - went with the yellowtail tartare: had a bit of a crunch and spice to it , would definitely get again. Also had some sashimi (super fresh). One of my favorite sushi spots in midtown. Tenzan is large and spread out so coming here with a larger party of four or five always seems like a private affair. They have a wide array of reasonably prices appetizers (10$ and under) Including a tender duck breast and a delicious sea salt salmon. The sushi is always fresh. Extra point for being one of the freshest for delivery as well. They have lots of rolls with mango at standard prices, while most places don't offer any and will charge you an extra 2$ to add. A small note but I love mango so big for me. I love the tricolor special, which comes with fat pieces of melt in your mouth salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. I had their kobi beef filet mignon appetizer for $25. It's probably the one item on the menu that I would not get again. It was just ok read more

Even though this restaurant was just so elegant and classy, the prices were not bad at all and food was great! I first had the salad and it was an orange vinegarette dressing I think. It was so good and you can taste a hint of the orange. The ika rings tasted better with that dressing than the one it came with. The sushi is probably the best part of the menu because my friends order the udon and the bento boxes which were not very spectacular, but still good at the same time. The udon was a little bland. The bento boxes came with a lot of stuff, but the teriyaki chicken was not that great. The other ones might be better. My friend Don from work know the owner Leo from Tenzan, so he hook us up and took us for a treat. When we arrived the restaurant, we were greeted by Yudi and seated in tall chairs by the window. We were looking at the menu and tried to figure out what's good to order, Yudi took our menu away and said we don't need one. Everything was taking care of and we just need to enjoy ourselves. Alright then. We started with sake on lunch break, and a few appetizers: squid rings, edamame, octopus salad, salmon tartar... So fresh and good! As I was filling up, Yudi said more good stuff is coming! He was certainly right! Yudi brought out hand roll sushi, oyster roll, special roll... And my favorite plate was the one with Toro (fatty tuna), uni, shrimp head, shrimp, king shell crab sushi... OMG, certainly to die for. The plate was so divine makes me feel so special, like my birthday! Just when I thought I was about to pass out from food coma, Yudi brought out latte from Turkish place next door. Have not forgotten the dessert: fried ice cream and Lady M green tea milli crepe. Thank you Leo and Yudi for such a wonderful meal, everything was beyond exceptional, thank you for spoiling us! Tenzan is my go to spot when meeting someone halfway between uptown/downtown. The restaurant is a bit nicer than the typical sushi spot and the food is excellent! The rolls at Tenzan tend to be much larger than the typical rolls at similar restaurants. The spicy tuna roll in particular is very filling and it's not even a special roll! I also love to order the snowing special roll, which is very filling. Would recommend trying this better than average sushi restaurant if you're in the area! read more

I am definitely a fan of this place! After eating there a bunch of times both for work lunches and for dinner, I realized they delivered to my new apartment. They are my go to place for sushi in the area and for delivery. Literally everything I have had here is good. I can't speak to the cooked food, but literally everything else that I have had here is delicious. The chirashi is great, and their tartare are unique and delicious. They have a nice selection of sake as well. The bartender is very helpful at picking one and sometimes gives you a little taste. The service is always nice and friendly as well. There's a waterfall in the middle of the restaurant, and there's a TV by the bar. The decor is more on the modern side, and the place is clean. For the neighborhood, Tenzan actually offers a decent menu. The quality of the food is certainly better than some of the other typical non-Japanese Japanese restaurants. The sushi is of a *slightly* higher caliber, staff are friendly enough and the food comes out rather quick. This place is more than suitable for an after work in Midtown meal. With an amazingly large water feature, it could offer some decent atmosphere. Unfortunately it seems like they no longer run it and it's just a two-story pit now. read more
