This is the sushi deluxe from Tenzan -- tuna roll, miso soup, plus a water and ponzu -- $50 delivered. It looks worse than it eats. Yeah, the tuna's a little mealy and the garnishes are suspect. Variety? Not much. But the quality is surprisingly solid. Pieces are well-sized, rice is warm, and nothing's falling apart on you. This is your run-of-the-mill sushi deluxe. No flash, no frills -- just workhorse sushi. The Josh Hart of the sushi world, if you will. Heads up: there's also a Tenzan 89 that does omakase, so don't get them twisted. I'm giving Tenzan a B-. Much better than I expected. For more straight-shooting sushi takes from New Yiddy, check out The Raw Report on TikTok.

Nice local spot for ramen and sushi. Nice and classic staple that is good. Nice and quick service and always available room. Can't go wrong with a roll here and for a good price. Enjoyed miso soup and sushi roll. Overall recommend

It's been over 8 years since I've come here and It didn't disappoint. Staff is super accommodating and has the best service! I don't like a lot of rice so being able to ask for avocado instead of rice was a sushi fanatic's dream! Very airy and calming inside decor, doesn't get too loud.

Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura Bento Box

The first thing you need to know about dining here is that you're going to be here for awhile. This is the type of place where you will be actively wondering where your appetizers are because they've taken so long to come out of the kitchen. I was shifting in my seat and twiddling my fingers waiting for this food to come. If you're hungry, don't come in expecting speedy service and to be in and out. That said, the food is not bad. I went for the shrimp and vegetable tempura bento box, which was $21 for the tempura, spring rolls, shumai, california rolls, rice, and a miso soup. Generally speaking, everything was tasty-- I enjoyed each individual component, but all together, I was weighed down by how much starch and fried food there was in this tray. I wished for something to cut through it to be included, but I understand that this was somewhat of my own doing because of it ultimately was what I ordered. The fact that this box came with rice blew my mind because I couldn't imagine eating tempura with more starch, but that might just be me. The tempura itself was good the first few bites but came with so much breading that it made it difficult to eat more than a few pieces when combined with all of the other starches I was eating in the rest of the box. It was like the ratio of shrimp to breading was 1:1 which definitely should not be the ratio. Ultimately it was all okay but I don't think this would be my first choice.

Salmon Teriyaki

My friends and I were shocked at the ratings here after our meal so I decided to show some love. Full disclosure: my party of 3 all ordered lunch bentos, not sushi. For $16, this lunch combo was an absolutely fantastic deal. With miso soup, a leafy salad, and sooo much delicious food. We got teriyaki salmon which was light and tasty, and tempura shrimp and vegetables (the tempura sauce was very good). Staff was very friendly and overall a nice vibe shared between here and the ramen restaurant next door!

This is our go-to for sushi takeout. Consistent, fresh. Great combinations. The appetizers and tempura are good too.

How do I make a reservation at the Tenzan on 2nd Ave (Midtown East)? They are not on Opentable and dont pick up the phone, website link is dead. Confused.

Is there a Tazan on the upper West Side?

Google..

Do you have an upper West Side location?

Don't go to the UWS location, I got food poising from eating salmon sushi & tuna rolls a few days ago. I used to really like Tenzan but now I only go to high quality sushi restaurants.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

I love how the flavors mix so well together, I felt like I was in heaven! the service was amazing, like the never left my water cup empty!!! The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

This is a bit…read moreof a belated review, but I'm glad to see that the standout dishes from my winter visit are still featured on their summer menu. 3 of us shared a few orders of their tenderloin ($18) and pork loin ($20) katsu, eggplant agebitashi ($18), sabazushi ($22), truffle rice, and niku udon ($24). The katsu was very, very moist on the inside, with a crispy batter that was so light it was almost flavorless. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the tenderloin and pork loin. Overall the dish had a very light flavor and I added quite a bit of sauce and wasabi. Some of the less memorable dishes were the eggplant agebitashi and truffle rice. The eggplant agebitashi tasted like a cross between an eggplant parm and a bolognese. The truffle rice had a very strong truffle flavor that ended up overpowering everything else in the dish. I thought the slices of raw button mushrooms were a little strange. I really enjoyed the sabazushi. The pieces of mackerel were thick and carried a lot of that characteristic mackerel oily flavor, but the oiliness was cut by enough vinegar to balance everything out. The niku udon was also a surprise hit. The noodles were wide, flat, super slurpy, and the broth carried a deep umami flavor. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience here.
