Sashimi course
Sally A.

Finally made it here for the omakase. It did not disappoint. We did the sushi and sashimi omakase. I would recommend only the sushi omakase. The sashimi was nothing super special... it was fine... The sushi on the other hand, most of it was awesome. The salmon with the caramelized onions was spectacular. And the food kept coming. After we were stuffed they asked if we wanted more. So the omakase is priced based on the number and type of pieces you get, so I suppose you could ask for less, or more.

I had a wonderful time at sushi seki! It's located on Restaurant Row and it is very spacious inside. The waiters are very attentive. We ordered a seaweed salad (not traditional green seaweed, but black seaweed) and dynamite shrimp to start off (delicious). I ordered a toro nigiri, shrimp tempura roll, and a blue crab roll. The crab didn't taste like much but the toro and shrimp tempura were delicious. The fish tasted very fresh.

As perfect as I remember when I went quite often in 2008-2009. Every bite - just perfection. Every single aspect of having a meal here is spot on.

Overall thought this place was solid, good not great slightly overpriced sushi. Got seated in the back of the dining room. Ambience was ok. Place was crowded, people seem to like this place, but I just thought it was good.

Did they just send me pre-fab sushi from the local market!?! So much for "fresh" sushi. Sub par sushi!

DO NOT order delivery from here if you're wanting to eat when hungry; it took them just under 2-hrs to deliver our food! After taking a look at the delivery app's reviews online fI noticed that they had an 85% rating on delivery time (not good at all)! Outside of that, the food was "meh" to be quite honest. Plus, it looked more like pre-fab sushi you'd pick-up at a local market! There are way too many other sushi joints around to waste your time and money here! I'm out!

I found my meal to be extremely mediocre and the service to be lacking here as well. I made a reservation ahead of time and after arriving promptly on time, I wasn't seated until about 20 minutes after. There was truly nothing special to any of the rolls. The spicy tuna crispy rice was good but at $8 per piece, it was not worth it. I didn't think anything was particularly bad but at the steep price point it is, I think there are many other nearby options to consider.

Party of 4, Round 6, NOT included in Omakase

Very good sushi BUT be careful, our waitress Ayako was unclear about the fact that our Omakase had completed. It seems that it should have finished after 4 rounds (13 pieces total), because before our 5th round she asked "would you like sushi or hand roll for your next round?". Anyone who has tried Omakase elsewhere in the city knows that it's common to have a dish or two within the Omakase where you can select between a couple options, so it was not clear that our Omakase was over. After she brought out the 5th round we decided to clarify and it turns out that rounds 5 and 6 were NOT in fact part of the Omakase. Would have appreciated this to have been stated more clearly. Bill ended up being $170 per person for the sushi subtotal only. Tl;dr make sure you are aware when you are ordering beyond what's included in the Omakase

Amazing sushi and delivery was so fast! Super fresh (even the wasabi) and tons of creative rolls. Definitely a go to when I'm in the 'hood!

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

They share a takeout menu and it's super easy to order--text what you want to the phone number on the website and pickup in ~20 minutes :). You pay on a handheld and they don't ask for tip for takeout. I love this process and truly wish more sushi restaurants in LA adopt the takeout box. The only one I know of is hefty but also $200 each lol, making Sanyuu's $69 omakase and $78 Everything don, not to mention the $30 giant salmon nigiri set, A STEAL! I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. We're spoiled by easy access to live spot prawns everywhere and fresh SB uni. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I lived in the city.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

The interior is minimalistic with a japanese feel through the zen garden. For drinks my friend and I had the sayonara which I enjoyed, but she thought was too strong. We ordered family style, sharing the corn ribs, zucchini, butter scallops, ebi tempura, pork katsu, mazemen, ube tiramisu , and corn ice cream amongst four people. The ube tiramisu was free since we wrote a google review for the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the zucchini was surprisingly good as well. The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu. Overall, I would come back and would definitely recommend konban! Get the corn ribs, zucchini, pork katsu, and corn ice cream! My friend did notice that some menu items changed from her previous visit (instead of the zucchini they had the eggplant in the past)
