probably a 2.5 star. Had a pork/chicken combo. Pork had a touch of that nice charred flavor but was a bit fatty (and I like fatty charred pork). Chicken was unimpressive and had a strange, non-traditional sauce on it. It almost had a pineapple flavor to it. Not bad but not very appealing for someone looking for classic teriyaki sauce. They DID add a small side of the classic teriayaki sauce I craved on the side but it was only enough for me to wish that it was already all over the chicken. Rice wasn't cooked great. This is my go-to teriyaki place. And I'm willing to trek through Cap Hill traffic just to get a taste. The decor won't be featured on HGTV anytime soon, but it's clean. The staff are friendly and the service is fast. All those elements are important but the food is the star. Excellent teriyaki. I go for the spicy chicken and it is spicy - in a good way. Still lots of flavor to match the heat. Serving size is on the generous side. I have a healthy appetite and I can get two meals out of it. And for whatever reason, the Cap Hill parking gods have blessed parking in front of this joint b/c I can always find a spot right in front. The food was absolutely awful. Despite the strangeness of ordering Fish and Chips at a Teriyaki place, they have a glowing review of them posted on their window so my partner ordered the three-piece halibut version of the dish. I ordered the Salmon Teriyaki. Despite telling the cashier that our order was to be eaten there, it still arrived in plastic to-go boxes (ironically stamped "earth choice") with plastic forks and paper napkins. Sitting at one of the many sticky tables, we opened our plastic boxes to discover the worst food we'd had in years. The "fish and chips" looked like it was straight out of a factory and was so hot that my partner burned his finger when trying to pick up a piece of "fish". The flavor was a perfect balance of freezer burn and microwave scorch. The fries were dry, starchy, and stale. The tartar sauce was greasy and rank tasting. The fish shaped food nuggets were even worse. My Salmon Teriyaki consisted of a large piece of salmon on a family size portion of white rice with a side of suspicious smelling cucumber salad. The fish was incomprehensibly hot all the way through, not in a way that could have possibly come from being fresh off the grill but more in the ten minutes too long in the microwave sort of way. After a few bites we admitted defeat, closed up our plastic boxes, and left the restaurant to deposit them on top of the nearest homeless person adjacent trashcan. Lamenting the waste of nearly $20 between us, we walked down the street in search of something, anything to wash the poop-like taste out of our mouths. Honestly, my cat serves up better fair in her big plastic box than what is served at Teriyaki Madness. All through the night my partner suffered from severe stomach cramps, likely caused by the "food". We will NEVER go back and advise all others to steer clear. read more

I have been coming here for years and find them to be friendly, quick, inexpensive and tasty. Definitely a sweeter sauce, but the quality of meat is good, the rice is cooked to a nice consistency and I prefer the cucumber salad to a bit of lettuce from a bag. They do get packed around lunch time but it still never takes more than 10 minutes. I always get it to go so the actual size of restaurant/decor doesn't matter to me. read more

I typically order the spicy chicken though my partner branches out more than me and we are both consistently pleased. This place has the best spicy chicken I've ever had, and the cucumber salad is awesome. You can get a tub of it for around $4. The serving sizes are large enough to share or good for two meals. I'm searching for good Teriyaki on Capitol Hill and this was close by. Very often you can grab a spot right in front of this row of restaurants on 15th. Decent teriyaki with penty of other offerings including a rendition of quite spicy Kung Pao Chicken (so so). Fried rice was intersting. Menu also included fish and chips. Will hang on to the menu for quick takeout. Friendly and clean. Very busy which is always a good sign. read more

It is new & we got coupons in the mail & decided to try ~ the woman who took my order was not cordial. Used 1 coupon for a Bowl, but couldn't use another, especially the egg roll. She kept saying only 1 coupon per guest per order, which meant that even tho I purchased another bowl at full price, she would not let me use the Free Egg Roll coupon which clearly states, Free Eggroll with purchase of Any Bowl. I was extremely mad! Got my order home & we began to eat. Mine was Chicken Breast with noodles & husband got Orange Chicken with rice. Both were more than over cooked or had been Out too Long. We have never had such a bad meal in our Lives (no exaggeration) & neither of us finished it. You would think that @ 5pm the food would be Fresh & the Best, but that accounts for the fact that there were only 2 people there & no one else coming in. Went yesterday with a friend who was raving about this place. When we walked in, there were two people waiting for food. I ordered the spicy chicken w/a side of kimchee. A couple walks in and orders. My friend gets her order, and I'm thinking sweet I get to eat some bomb ass teriyaki in the next few minutes. Nope...the couple that came in after us got their orders and I was left sitting watching my friend eat her teriyaki. The people that were waiting got their orders and left. Finally after what seemed like an eternity I got my order. The portion was very small. Must of been a small chicken or the chili shrank them or something, but I could probably pick up all the teriyaki in hand and I got small girlie hands. Wasn't all that great, and the customer service sucked monkey balls. Every time i come in the younger cashier, (who seems to be the only cashier here) seems to be incredibly annoyed that I want to order something. Last time I went, I tried to add a side of short ribs, and she proceeded to chew me out for an unknown reason. Then, when I asked why she was so mad, she proceeded to chuckle to herself as if she was having a lot of fun being so rude. I have never been in such an uncomfortable situation as a customer.
