To preface this, we have never left a one star review before. My husband and I found ourselves in a predicament. The Thirsty Whale was closed (it was Tuesday) and the nearby ale house, our plan B, was also closed. We began to walk around and found 2 other restaurants with significant wait times of over an hour. We were excited when Testa's was able to seat us immediately , but it should've been our first warning sign. To start, the ambience seemed fine enough with a pub like feel and good indie pop music playing. There was even a nice view of the waterfront. However, things quickly turned south when I ordered my first drink... The Blueberry Lemondrop "Martini." The drink was far too sweet, almost viscous, with a weird aftertaste and a terrible texture thanks to sugar crystals around the rim. I would not consider this a martini. This may just have been my own taste because we could overhear another table saying they liked it. So for my second drink, I decided to order a draft beer which I thought was a safe choice. I was further disappointed when the beer came over 10 minutes later and warm. For apps, we ordered the clam chowder and oyster rockerfeller. My husband genuinely enjoyed the clam chowder- it was thick with a good flavor and an impressive number of clams. However, the oyster rockerfeller was the worst thing I've ever ordered at a restaurant. The thick melted cheese layer on top of the oyster was cold and hardened by the time it came to the table. The oyster itself was also sandy and gritty in texture. This combination was inedible. Do NOT order this dish and it should not be on the menu. For entrees, my husband ordered the seafood alfredo and I got the fish and chips. The seafood alfredo came with lobster, scallops, and the smallest saddest looking shrimp I've seen in a long time. There was essentially no Alfredo sauce to speak of. The dish was bland and tasteless, and the seafood except for the few pieces of lobster was completely underwhelming. The shrimp and scallops were quite rubbery in texture and bland. The only thing carrying the dish was the garlic bread which wasn't particularly amazing either. The fish and chips were simply okay. The fries... were fries.... and were good. However, the fried haddock was borderline soggy and broke apart in your hands. The tartar sauce saved the dish from total disaster. Overall, I feel like we paid over 100 dolllars for okay fries and decent soup given how bad the majority of the food was. On top of it all, the service was barely adequate. Each drink order took roughly 10-15 minutes to arrive and it took just as long to pay as well. This seemed like a tourist trap with a generic seafood menu. If you do go here, we would suggest ordering something simple like a boiled lobster to get your money's worth. read more

Went here Labor Day weekend during COVID and had a great experience. Was seated right away and the entire staff was friendly. Bathrooms on the first floor are clean and single occupancy. Food was amazing, probably one of the best clam chowder in New England. They don't skimp on the seafood either. The lobster mac and cheese was hearty and the kale salad had plenty of shrimp for a full meal. Finish it up with the blueberry pie with some real vanilla ice cream. read more

This a great alternative if you want a traditional family sit down dinner with varied options of seafood. They do have Maine lobster but I would recommend trying that at other establishment for that. Scott is hands down the face of the place! He is so friendly and helpful. We had a bad experience at another place in town and we were so happy that we came here instead. We started with Raspberry Collins before we moved into Atlantic Brewing Company beers! The atmosphere is so relaxed and open. The place is clean and the service is top notch. We tried the amazing flash fried lobster tails. I have never had fried lobster because why mess with perfection? It hit the spot. Truly a special restaurant and a great place. I've been coming for years to Bar Harbor and am happy to see this place under such amazing new management. They care about Bar Harbor and are brining good, quality food with superb service. We were so lucky to get seated (outdoor) so quickly after my mom and I had been walking around for 15 minutes to find somewhere to eat for dinner. It seemed lively inside, a little crowded maybe, but we sat outside next to a heater, so no complaints about that. Our waitress was very friendly and gave great service. I ordered the clam chowder and house salad, my mom got the tomato bisque, and we got the fish and chips to share. Clam chowder was delicious, very creamy. The fish tasted interesting and not as oily as I'm used to. I also tried a local blueberry ale--pretty good! All in all, great food, nice ambiance, and good service. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Monday evening and we were lucky to score a table upstairs. I have a theory about restaurants: Don't go for dinner if they serve breakfast. This one served breakfast. The biggest issue we had was the menu. The menu online and the menu in the restaurant were different. We didn't know that until now when we were writing this review. My wife and I both agreed, some of these things were never on the restaurant menu. If you have a food allergy, be very careful. We began our meal with the Calamari Fries. On the restaurant menu, it never mentioned it came covered in sweet Thai chili ranch dressing. If it had, we wouldn't have ordered it because of an allergy to cream/milk. I ordered the Dueling Crab Cakes which on the menu indicated they came in two different styles but didn't specify, which style. The waiter told us one was baked and the other one was deep fried. No where on the menu did it indicate the crab cakes came with an orange creamy dressing, possibly, thousand Island dressing, and a white creamy dressing, possibly ranch dressing. I'm happy it was on the side and not smothered in it. Both crab cakes came out deep fried and might have been previously frozen. Don't know for sure but very disappointed. The red potatoes that came with it were fine. My wife ordered the lobster tacos. No where on the restaurant menu did it indicate the lobster was fried. However, the online menu indicated flash fried. Frying the lobster totally ruined the tacos. Our service was good and friendly until the end. Our waiter got into a long discussion about his background with the table behind us and we heard about his life story while we were waiting for the check. The prices were reasonable. After the MDI Marathon packet pickup we parked our car near the village green and wandered down Main Street towards the waterfront and discovered Testa. Cold and hungry with a brief look at the menu, the restaurant beckoned us in. We were initially seated upstairs but decided we enjoyed the view better downstairs at the bar. We encountered locals who were also signed up for the MDI marathon and half the next morning and chatted for a while, learning about other hotspots at Acadia National Park. We ordered a lobster dinner and and a couple of beers from local Atlantic Brewery, which was served with rice pilaf and steamed veggies. Such a lovely experience during our first-time visit to the beautiful town of Bar Harbor. Even on a busy evening, we didn't have to wait too long for a table for dinner. We snagged a table outside in their little patio area, which was very peaceful and quieter than their inside dining. Great customer service from all the staff; food came out in a timely manner and it was delicious. We were going to hit one of the more expensive and popular places in Bar Harbour but we were hungry and this was close. I am so glad we came! We had the lobster tacos and the lobster roll. Both were delicious and very well prepared. I would give it 5 stars but the chips were over cooked a bit. The fries that came with the fish tacos were some of the best I have ever had. This was a nice bonus. One more very pleasant surprise was the lobster bisque! Perfect in every way! I wish I could give this place 4 1/2 stars because that is what they deserve. I had a few hours in Maine and it was my mission to have lobster....real lobster, not a lobster roll doused in mayonnaise. So after walking in and out of a couple places, I settled on Testa's. They have reasonably priced specials that allow you to get a whole lobster and other stuff too. First of all the rolls with the olive spread were super yummy. Then the crab cakes were frickin amazing. The best I've had in forever. Mostly because it was a true crab cake, not all that breading that you find in other places (check my picture). Lastly my lobster hit the spot! I didn't have any room for the blueberry pie, but people seemed to like that as well. I'm so glad we decided to stop I'm at this place for dinner. Our server Armando was excellent- he was polite, checked up on us often, and even gave us advice on what to do on our vacation here. It's a weird time we are living in. We happened to go to Testa's as the mask mandate was being lifted in the state of Maine. Since we are vaccinated we didn't have to wear our mask but we brought it with us just in case. The coconut shrimp and oysters were phenomenal. I really likes the blueberry Thai chili sauce and the iced hot sauce for the oysters. My husband got the fried lobster tacos and he said they were good. They were not very lobster flavored but were like a regular fried fish taco. I had the mussels in a tomato cream broth for my entree and they were delicious.
