We had a large group to eat for fathers day. 4 of us had to send food back mutliple times. I had a salad and the lettuce was browning. The whole experience was frankly pathetic and disappointing. The male manager had the nerve to raise his voice at my elderly grandmother about her meal that had to be sent back multiple times. We normally really enjoy TRH, but had only visited during the evening dinner shift. Today, we had lunch and were very disappointed in the service. We waited 20 minutes for ice waters. The appetizers came out at the same time as the waters. We hadn't even placed our entree orders by this time either. I did bring this to the attention of the manager on duty and she apologized and helped re-organize the waiter and move the process along. However she also provided an excuse for the poor service instead of just owning up to the situation. We will probably be back, BUT...they will not be getting a third chance for our business if this type of service becomes a habit. read more

We went on a Sunday around 3 and were surprised at how busy they were. The wait wasn't terrible it was nice outside so we waited out there. When we were seated we were greeted with the warm rolls that were wonderful. We were seated in the bar and had the bartender as our waitress. We knew she would be busier but she was still very attentive. Our steak was cooked exactly like we asked. They asked us to cut into it as soon as it was brought out. I've been visiting Texas Roadhouse locations for many years. Rarely have I ever gotten a bad meal. The steaks are properly cooked and seasoned and the sides are delicious. In my last visit, I got a 8 oz sirloin with mashed potatoes and corn as sides. So glad I switched cuts. I used to get the KC Strip. It's still a good cut, but honestly, a bit too fatty for me. The sirloin is right in my wheel house and is superb! Everybody loves the hot rolls with the cinnamon butter. It's a good stop. The decor is rustic but clean, except for the peanut shells, which are everywhere. It can be a bit loud, especially if they decide to dance, which can slow service a bit. Our last trip, no dance. Maybe they're not doing it as often. Regardless, it's a good steak and a good meal. Not a high-end steakhouse, but better than most. read more

4 main points about the Texas Road House in Olathe 1* I am always a little skeptical about a perfect score, if I could, I would rate this a 9 out 10. But it is definitely better than a 4. My only negatives are kind of a predisposition on my part anyway. I went in thinking it was a steakhouse, comparable to a Hereford House or Ruth Chris, etc. I expected it to be kind of formal & quiet, a good date night place. It definitely is NOT that. The decor (and prices) make it more comparable to a TGIFridays, Chilli's, Joes Crab Shack, something like that. It's loud. The walls are covered with quirky pieces of pretend history, artificially aged. The waitresses even stopped to do a line dance every now and then. Tacky family chain restaurant all the way. Well, how can I then justify a perfect score??? 2* The Food was excellent. (although I would recommend half portions of gravy) We've been 2 times so far and everything has been great. I had to go back twice before reviewing because it was hard to believe. All of the extra touches were there both times. We have tried the beef medallions, chicken fried chicken, the Road Kill steak, the smokehouse burger and the rattlesnake bites. 3* The Prices are excellent. Two people can easily eat for under $20. Considering the quality of the food and the ridiculously large portions (There is enough for dinner and lunch the next day) Some and I were making a conscious effort to eat off of the lower half of the menu, and the food was great. Am looking forward to coming back with a little more $ and getting the top of the menu choice, I know it will be worth it. 4* The people know what they were doing. In the 2 times I have been, we've gone early for dinner and have been the last or next to last empty table. Within 10 minutes, every table was full and people were waiting in line. The second time was a Tuesday and they were still packed. Whoever designed the building knew they would be full, it has the widest aisles I've ever seen in a restaurant. Which is important considering it will always be full of people. The wait staff, both times, different waitresses, were completely professional. An amazing display of being competent. Given their decoration style, I would have expected too much extra friendly, time wasting dribble. Not at all. While being friendly, both times they went over all of options for whatever we were ordering. Making sure we understood the order and getting it right the first time. They also make a point of asking us to bite the meat when it arrives to make sure it's cooked properly. I consider this a "show" even if it's not exactly right, 99% of people will say yes and eat it instead of waiting and sending it back. The impressive part is getting it right during the order process. There were some other things that the wait staff did that were impressive, but I actually don't want to spoil the surprise factor. Anybody could have had a good day one time, I am convinced that the manager at the Olathe location is special. The staff is completely prepared, professional, and there too many consistent "extra" touches for it to be an accident. There is some high level, expert jedi training going on when it comes to customer service. And the food is great, and not expensive at all. So if you gots peanut allergies, you may want to proceed with caution as they are absolutely all over the place. And I mean by the barrels. The steak here are seasoned very well and are usually cooked exactly the way you ask them to be. Also considering that a 10oz ribeye is only $13.49 and a 16oz is $18.49, that's pretty doggone cheap. Here's the scoop. Texas Roadhouse is the best middle-class steak restaurant in the city. Any time I want steak, I go here. I'll tell you why. Price - $9.99 for an 8 ounce steak. Comes with 2 sides and unlimited rolls. Damn good price. Food quality - The rolls are amazing. They are served with cinnamon butter to make them even better. Their side salads are better than most steak restaurants. The steak is always cooked just right, never chewy.. very good flavor. And most of their side choices are fantastic. Great sweet potato (amazing loaded!), very good chili, solid fries. You can't go wrong here. The atmosphere is good, but it depends on your mood. I will say that there are at least 2-3 birthdays every time I go here, which consists of a shouting waitress telling everyone it's their birthday and encourages the guests to shout "yeeee-haw" to compete with the birthday person's returning "yeee-haw" (which they are supposed to do while sitting on a bull saddle). Pretty annoying after the first 1-2 times it happens. But, it's a very lively mood. The waiters/waitresses will occasionally line dance, which just adds to the upbeat atmosphere. Overall, this place is fantastic. In my opinion, no other casual steak restaurant in the city comes close. Do go out of your way to come here. It's worth a trip. Pro Tip: Call ahead on Friday or Saturday nights at least 2 hours before you want to eat or expect to have to wait at least 2 hours when you arrive. Bipolar. One one hand, I think their food is delicious and priced very fairly. You can get a 8oz filet with 2 quality sides for $11. Personally, I prefer the 23oz Tbone for $23 (so good!) that also comes with 2 sides. The free roles with apple butter they bring out are fantastic, and served steaming hot. Skip the "rattlesnake bites" which were just disappointing goo balls. On the other hand, however, I cannot stand this place. The wait staff is required to be loud and obnoxious. Pray that no one there is celebrating a birthday. Holy smokes, it's all I can do to not stand up and yell "WILL YOU SHUT UP ALREADY?!?!" You know... after you have grilled with mesquite, applewood and other flavors it's just really hard for me to go to a steakhouse and pay double the price of a t-bone that I could buy at HyVee and grill it myself for half the price. I must admit that I was very disappointed this past time that I went there. Up until then, aside from the price, I had pleasant experiences there. The t-bone looked like the steaks that you get from ihop. It was real thin and it was not cooked to the specifications that I requested. I didn't bother saying anything this time cause it was late and I was hungry. I must admit that the bread was really good and the service was decent, but you need to make sure that you take some ear plugs. It seems that every time I am there 20+ people somehow have their birthdays on the same night and they all decide to go to this place for their birthday, (explain that one people) and there is screaming and yelling every five minutes. It gets OLD REALLY FAST!!! It is not a quiet place to have a romantic dinner or to catch up with family and friends so don't plan on normal conversations. The beer seemed slightly expensive...maybe liquor is how they make their profit, since the steaks/sides are so reasonably priced? 20 minutes later, my steak came out. 15 minutes later, at home, I finally got in to it. The steak was cooked just as I had liked, and tasted great for a to-go steak from a chain restaurant. The baked potato was...a baked potato. The salad was...a salad. Hard to screw either of those up, and they didn't. Obviously, this isn't your upscale steakhouse. You won't get quite the same steak as you would at Sullivan's, Capital Grille, etc. However, you're paying $15-$20 for a steak with two sides, not $35 for a steak with zero sides. I think the dollar:quality ratio here is excellent. I mean, come on, the place is 4 stars on Yelp...and you have to automatically assume Yelp deducts a star simply for having more than two locations on the planet. Well, the food was amazing as usual. But I feel like every single time we come to this location we end up waiting for over an hour to be seated. I called ahead, around 5pm not thinking that it would be super packed that early on. Boy was I wrong. We arrived at about 5:15pm, and when we checked in the lady at the counter said it would still be about 40-50 minutes. No big deal, we decide to wait. During our wait, there is a never-ending wave of customers coming in, finding out the wait times, and walking right back out the door. At one point in time, they were at a 90 minute wait time. Even those of us that called ahead or used the phone app waitlist, still waited an additional 30 minutes on top of what our quoted times were. It is sad to see this restaurant lose so much business due to it not being able to hold enough customers at once within the building. I think that Texas Roadhouse could benefit from opening another location within KC Metro area, as the only other two locations are far south in Belton, and North KC area. read more

Had their ribeye, baked potato, and green beans. The steak was cooked to order, but it was tough and had an odd flavor. Not rancid, but just not choice beef. The green beans were not good, and even the bacon couldn't save them. The baked potato was good. The rolls and honey butter are always great. After we left, I developed a horrible aftertaste that reminded me of dish soap. The servers line dancing is horrible! I can't fathom why you would take them away from serving customers to make them look like fools, make the customers uncomfortable, and block the walkways where other employees and customers can't get through. My wife and I were very uncomfortable trying to eat and carry on a conversation with someone dancing next to our table. Are we supposed to stop our meal and watch them or ignore them? My eyes met more than one of theirs and they had an expression of embarrassed resignation. We felt sorry for them more than anything. Like watching someone kicking a puppy. The restaurant is EXTREMELY LOUD!!! It was next to impossible to carry on a conversation or hear what the server was saying. By the end of our meal, we were developing headaches. Although I used to eat at roadhouse often, the atmosphere has increasingly turned me off and it is more and more rare that I choose to go there anymore. Another disappointing, horrible night at Tx Roadhouse in Olathe, Ks. Our group of 8 was seated at a 6 top with an extra tiny table and chairs added to the booth so 2 of us were sitting in the isle. The famous rolls were dry, a steak ordered medium had to be redone due to blood running all over the plate, the green beans were more onion and bacon bits than beans, the Caesar dressing was bland, my baked potato was salt encrusted and my entire meal tasted like the bottom of a popcorn bucket. I ate three bites of the country style breaded chopped mystery meat covered with salty white (bacon flavored?) gravy. We went to celebrate a 9th birthday and the wait staff did a great job giving the birthday girl a fun experience. The food and customer service was still amazing and we weren't seated near a large party with wild animals running around. I would give them 5 stars but, they forgot to bring out some of our food and got my husbands order wrong. I tried the Ft. Worth Steak this time around and it was a little too fatty for me but, other than that, it was great! The sweet potato was amazing and it was huge!!! My husband and I, along with my mother-in-law, dined at Texas Roadhouse on Saturday, February 11, 2012. We choose this restaurant because of its close proximity to the AMC Studio 30; because my mother-in-law is in a wheelchair we were able to roll her across the parking lot from the movie theater to the restaurant. We arrived around 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and were able to be seated immediately. Restaurant staff choose the perfect table to accommodate our special needs and as we were seated we were given peanuts in the shell and warm rolls with cinnamon-honey butter. Our server quickly greeted us and helped to answer any questions we had about the menu. Servers around us sang and (lifelessly) line danced to some country song in between waiting on their tables - a shtick I could live without - but other guests seemed to be really interested. We got Cactus Blossom - basically an onion blossom. It was fine, just as I expected. I'm not a huge fan, but my m-i-l was quite pleased and she is a connoisseur of the chain restaurant onion blossom creation. She finds the sauce at Outback to be better, but declared this was good none-the-less. As a starter I ordered a dinner salad with fresh grated cheddar cheese and the restaurant's homemade ranch dressing. I was pleased with the salad as it contained more than iceberg lettuce (I think Romaine) as well as tomatoes, and croutons. The cheese was quite delicious. For my main course I ordered the small sirloin (I think six oz.) rare. The server verified that I was getting a cool red center and placed the order. The steak came out as ordered and had good flavor. The mashed potatoes on the side were pretty good. While I tend to avoid chains, my experience at Texas Roadhouse was positive. I found the dancing to be a little too much for my liking, but the rolls made up for it. Will I go back? Probably, as we have decided to get my mother-in-law out more often and she really loved her experience. And I would go for the rolls in a heartbeat. My son and I dined here on August 20, with my brother and sister-in-law. It was everyone's first time here and we were a bit thrown off with the 'choose your steak before you sit down' concept. The steaks looked gorgeous in the case and the food was okay but the steaks we got on our plates did not in any way resemble the steaks on display at the front of the restaurant. It felt a bit like bait and switch. Nevertheless, the food was good. Our waiter was so talkative I thought he was going to get in trouble from management. Even though it's a chain (something we usually stay away from), TX Roadhouse in Olathe manages to come across as a locally owned steakhouse. Fantastic service, great food and a fun family oriented atmosphere! You can pick out your own steak, they have bottomless buckets of peanuts and you can just throw the shells on the floor (kids love that). Ratlesnack bites are fun and the fried onion is lights out! Everytime we're in there one of the managers stop by our table to check in (very rare, and very much appreciated). TX Roadhouse is also VERY supportive of the local Olathe community and very involved; that's a huge plus in my book and they'll have my business for that reason alone as long as we live in KC. Combine that with their great food, FANTASTIC service and great family atmoshpere and you have a first rate restaurant! read more

Awful experience and we won't be going back. My wife decided to take me on a date this time as this past month has been one of the hardest months her family has ever had. We didn't get to celebrate Christmas this year so needless to say, we both needed a bit of normalcy and something/sometime away from the sadness. Needless to say, our experience at this restaurant last night was awful. We felt rushed and couldn't even enjoy our food. Our food was all brought out at the same time and were rushed to get the meal done. Sure, they were busy and the place was packed but if this is how your restaurant is run, by rushing your paying customer out the door as fast as they sit down, ..no thanks. We both ordered steaks, an 8oz filet and a 6oz sirloin. My meal was great, actually. Hers on the other hand, was not. Her first steak was gamey, fatty, and she couldn't even cut into it. When we asked the waitress to come back to our table, she couldn't be bothered. She questioned my wife like she was crazy and didn't want to deal with the inconvenience of trying to make her another one. So with a sigh and a roll of her eyes, she took the steak back. Less than a minute or so later, she comes back with a second one. The second one was undercooked as it was still a pale greyish/tan color on the outside. We didn't want to inconvenience the waitress again as she appeared to not care at all about her customers meals or health, we told her it was fine and she rushed off. My wife attempted to eat the bits of the steak that she could. You see, she ordered the steak as a medium temperature. The steak she got was seared and not cooked at all. Like I said, she ate what she could but I could tell she was unhappy and didn't want to bother the inconvenienced waitress again. Also note, no manager came to speak to us after the first steak was sent back...like they normally do. They couldn't be bothered to run a decent restaurant. Anyways, we finished and went home. Needless to say, my wife got sick at about 2am. She was in so much pain and about passed out...because she was given a steak that wasn't cooked. Yea sure, we can say it's our fault for accepting it / trying to eat it. The waitress couldn't be bothered to do her job. We paid for a decent meal and payed for decent service and our waitress couldn't be bothered to do the right thing and to see that the steak wasn't cooked in the first place. Nor was it what my wife ordered (temperature wise.) The waitress, working in a steak restaurant, has no care, concern or idea what a medium steak even looks like. Further, the management and way the restaurant is run during busy time....don't waste your time. They're sure to undercook your steak because they're trying to rush people out the door. The food was super oily. I could taste the burnt oil in my friend's country fried chicken. My KC strip was over cooked. I asked for medium rare. I wanted to return the orders but my friend was shy about it. So I let it go. I won't go there again! KC is known for its BBQ options are limitless when it comes to having good stake.
