It had been awhile since my wife and I had craved some BBQ and Valentine's Day seemed like as good an excuse as any for a visit to the Texas Roadhouse in South Reno. They open at 11:00am and by 11:10 today they were half full and filling rapidly. Our outstanding server was Rhonda and she came to see us in short order after we were shown to our table. I looked at the menu and saw BBQ pork ribs and the description, "falling off the bone". I asked Rhonda if it was really falling-off-the-bones good and she assured me that they were (I still had my doubts). That affirmation was enough to get my wife to order a half rack and I ordered a full rack. The ribs were delivered promptly and as I looked down at my plate, the meat was indeed falling off the bones. You know when you get ribs and you pick them up to gnaw the meat off the bones? Not here. I was able to separate the meat from the entire rack of ribs with a gentle swipe of my knife. (I brought home half of my order because my eyes were bigger than my stomach.) The sides were ordered were good and the hot rolls that came to our table early on, with cinnamon butter, looked, smelled and tasted fabulous. Even with a nearly-full section, Rhonda seemed to just materialize whenever we needed more ice tea, or wet naps, or extra ice for our tea. Rhonda did a splendid job as our server. My wife and I (both Army veterans) appreciated the patriotic staff shirts with the flag and the comment that they supported our troops on the backs. I could've made shredded cheese and box macaroni at home. Not to mention. The steak isn't cooked. The way I asked, the food barely was kept warm by the containers. And on top of that the website has you put in whoever is picking up your order and it doesn't even use the information. It just uses the name on the credit card. Also waste of time and confusing. I didn't read any reviews before I came in as I've been here before. But I do have to say, after reading some of the reviews and calling out Lauren by name, I can say without a doubt that that is a well earned amount of views if only for that one server, Lauren! The fresh baked bread rolls, the steaks, besides we know it's all good. What makes or breaks a place like this and any place really is the staff! Have I had bad service here before? Not bad, but subpar a few times, more of a rarity really. However, I wish that I could get my employees to conduct themselves in the manner that our server, Lauren, conducts herself. Even with efforts trying to sell me a gift card, by the way, which I purchased, and the sales of the drinks to the add-ons to the desserts, I never felt any pressure I was just experiencing a pleasant interaction. It's amazing when someone is not intimidated to do their job. There was a snafu with our order, to which Lauren immediately held herself accountable for, which, in my experience is rare, having been a cook, whenever there is a mess up, the kitchen catches the blame. That lets me know immediately the character of the person I am dealing with! And we know, your character should never be for sale at any price. Risking a customer complaint potentially a tip, maybe disciplinary action from the job whatever, Lauren chose to be honest about the fact that she had neglected to put our order in. Well done, respect earned! To let you know a little secret, I usually feel rushed through my appetizers bread rolls to hurry up to get to the food, so the hiccup only enhanced my wife and I experience. Had a gift card and my daughter and I decided steak sounded good. We arrived a little after 5 and waited about 15 minutes. Friday night busy. We had the sweetest server "Cina". She was funny and efficient. We had the sirloin and grilled shrimp with salad and a baked potato. It was all really good. We especially appreciated the heavy seasoning on the steak. Yum! During the holidays my wife and I dropped in for a late lunch early dinner as we had skipped a meal. I however, failed to write a review of that visit. Yesterday we repeated our experience. The Texas Roadhouse has a daily special " Early Dine" menu from which my wife and I ordered. She chose the 6oz sirloin, with a baked potato and Caesar salad. I selected the pulled pork, loaded sweet potato , and Caesar salad. Immediately after placing our order a basket of warm rolls was delivered by our waitress Joce. She was exceptionally attentive to our needs and responded to my wife's request for plain butter rather than the honey cinnamon butter normally served. The ambience is very homey, with a ranch house or country tavern feel. The only slightly negative comment is that the "background"'music was a bit louder than my wife and I would prefer. The portion sizes are quite large, the cook absolutely "nailed" my wife's steak at medium rare and my pulled pork was exquisitely tender and a massive serving size. Nate, our server, nailed it out of the gate: friendly, professional, drinks down fast, extra bread, fried pickles on the table before we even realized we were hungry. That's how you want a night to begin. But then... nothing. We talked, we waited, we watched the clock burn through an hour. 7:45 hit and still no food. Not a steak, not a side, nothing. For a place that usually runs like a well-oiled machine, it felt like the gears just stopped turning. I finally pulled the plug. Paid for what we got and cancelled the rest. Nate stayed cool about it, and Gary, the manager, came over -- professional, calm, genuinely wanted to understand what happened. He comped our drinks and appetizer and even gave us a free app for next time. I respect that. They handled it with class. But here's the thing: I walked out hungry on date night. It was our first time to eat at a Texas Roadhouse. The staff was friendly when we arrived and sat up very quickly. The place was clean and already before 4pm had quite a few customers. We started with the fresh bread and butter, yum. Had the cactus flower onion and really enjoyed it. Our server, Sam, checked on us a few times. She let the manager know it was our first time too. Then the chef thought he'd be funny by not grilling one side of both of the second ones. 110 degrees Fahrenheit is a rare steak you guys, not crispy on one side and blue on the other. Truly disappointing. They comped the steaks and sides so we paid $25 for drinks, bread and a blooming onion. Still tipped the waitress well, the only redeeming part of the experience. Been a while since I've been to Texas Roadhouse but it's a good time, every time! If you go at an off-time there's usually no issue with snagging a table but if you plan on going during prime dinner time definitely get on the waitlist online or on the app. This last visit I got on the waitlist with a 20-30min ETA on a Saturday early evening. After joining the waitlist it was about an additional 15-20 min after the estimated 30min wait. My go-to order is always the 12oz Ribeye with the house salad with ranch, and steak fries. While the steak is often a little on the charred side, the inside is always cooked exactly as ordered and seasoned just right. I love that all the steaks come with two sides and that almost all of them can be customized in some way (ex. salad dressings, potato toppings). While I've never ordered it this way, you can also add onions and/or mushrooms to your steak as well. Last but not least, my favorite reason to come to Texas Roadhouse is the rolls with the cinnamon honey butter. You can always ask for another basket and they come out warm and soft every time! I know everyone says not to fill up on bread before your food comes but I love eating the rolls, an appetizer like a blooming onion, and my salad and taking my steak home for the next day! The inside was an older style with lots of wood, old style pictures, and hanging decorations! Very old timey! We were welcomed in real quickly and shown our table! Although my tip is to order the filet medallions and sub the rice and you get any 3 sides, all of which are so good! I want to say that Tj, Frankie, Jenn & Alexa were all AMAZING! My wife and I dined out Friday night during the rush zone. We waited on the waitlist 15 minutes beyond the 45 minute estimate time. My wife's chicken fried chicken was marvelous. Our House Salads were great as well. I recommend the blue cheese and crumbles. My Ft Worth ribeye was cooked correctly but was a tough cut of meat. Only a little more than half was edible. I thought that was odd, but I didn't have the energy to call the server over so I just moved everything to the side of the table. The food took a while. The server did come over to apologize. Well, what was funny was I was thinking that we've been in Nevada for 22 years, and I was wondering if I had given a review for the Texas roadhouse before? So evidently I have before I was an elite member and that was eating here over 10 years ago. I gave a four star review then when the ribeye that I ate, then was the same that I ate tonight. I was so disappointed, do you think a steakhouse can cook a steak those steaks they show in their meat area when you first walk in waiting for a table? My steak was a quarter of what that steak was I swear they took the 12 ounce ribeye out of that counter cut it into three slices so they could get three steaks out of one, and I'm not joking. I'm a mistake connoisseur and I was shocked at how thin my ribeye was, I ordered it medium rare, it was Medium well done because it was such a thin piece of meat. I was really pissed off. The steakhouse that can't cook a steak is ridiculous. How they are packed so much and they were out the door when we left at 7 PM, I'm thinking why are you guys here? The steak is awful. My husband ordered the filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce and rice which it was supposed to be served over rice, but he asked for it to be served over mashed potatoes. He got a nasty looking bowl of mashed potatoes on the side in a dish, where the meat was not on top of it and I looked at the dish when he got it and I said wow that doesn't look so good, and he says wait a minute look at the menu sure enough they didn't give him the peppercorn sauce, and that was an afterthought. The plates were not presentable at all maybe I watched too much Food Network but the plates were very dirty. They look horrible. My steak was awful. The baked potato was just ridiculous and the only thing that was good was the blooming onion and my salad. To me when you go to a steakhouse that it's in their name, I don't care how busy you are, you work, your butt off in the kitchen, and you hire more staff to help out your employees, don't overwork them because it showed in the food tonight. My ribeye was so mealie and overcooked, so that was so disappointing. I didn't say anything because we had our friends out with us, and I didn't want to send my steak back. We just got the sauce for my husband. The presentation on our plate was just the worst. Didn't look like there was anybody at the other end of the Cook line that was looking at the order saying what does this need? Does this need sauce? Do these need vegetables? Does this need a starter? What does this need it wasn't anybody like that, but then again I watched too much Food Network but I was surprised at how there wasn't Someone spearheading the orders as they were going out to check to make sure they were OK. I'm done with this place. Second time in 10 years, in Texas roadhouse can't get a ribeye right don't advertise those when you walk in in the meat bin right in the door showing your steaks because next time I'll take a picture and want to get that steak oh wait there won't be a next time we were very disappointed in our meals. Oh yeah, our server I forgot what her name was, we barely saw her. We had to get other servers on their way by to get a certain items at least four times, I think yeah I know they're super busy and I didn't even ask for an alcohol drink because I didn't think I'd get one fast enough, I had lemonade instead, and no water no nothing we had to ask for silverware. I had to ask for snack plates, it is the service wasn't even great at all. I'm disappointed but live and learn twice in 10 years. I got this. My husband and I shared which was plenty of food, but the food was so delicious. It makes you wanna have your own. the line is out the door so we decided to sit at the bar, which is probably the best seat in the house. Frank right was our bartender/server and Melinda was bartender. Let's not forget. The margarita was amazing. Both Melinda And Frank amazing. This place was super popular. Since there was a winter storm recently, they were out of some menu items, but not out of steaks which is what I wanted. The wait to be seated was about 20 minutes. The lobby wasn't that huge, so they recommended that we wait in the car or outside. Outside was very cold, so we just went browsing at Kohl's across the parking lot to kill time until they texted us. Upon being seated, this place was super packed. The service was as expedient as it could be given that it was just busy. They did a good job with accommodating the amount of people.
