This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've eaten at in a while. The chicken satay is amazing, it isn't dry and the peanut sauce is so amazing. The shrimp wrapped in rice paper is also a win. The Pra Ram Beef is amazing, it has baby corn, broccoli, bok choy, carrots, beef, and a lot of that splendid peanut sauce which made my boyfriend's day (and mine). The food here is amazing overall. The family owned business needs more customers. It is basically a home cooked meal and the family is so nice. They were also very on top of refilling the water glasses. This review is solely based on the Chicken Pad Thai that I ordered. I'm used to the dish tasting sweet, so when I got my food and it was salty...my taste buds were thrown off and it just wasn't what I expected. I didn't even finish half of my food and took it to go. The steamed rice was good, not to sticky or loose. Having said that, the other three dishes were plain bad. Try Krung Thai, Old Siam or even Thai Basil if you're craving Thai. We got a curry chicken and emphasized that we need it mild....it was borderline "cruel" with the amount of heat. We should have realized it since we could see the pepper flakes throughout the dish but we tried it anyway and we tasted the heat right away. The chicken was stringy and surprisingly dry. The next dish, Pad Thai was so sweet that I thought they compensated for the heat from the previous dish. The noodles came out in one big clump as if it were leftovers which had been microwaved - yuck. Finally, the last dish (which was our appetizer) - the papaya salad was truly "fishy". We weren't sure exactly what type of fish they used to flavor the actual papaya. The sauce was so fishy that we worried that the other ingredients would swim away from the stench - sadly, no exaggeration. Compare any of these dishes to the other Thai restaurants and you can see why this place is uncrowded during dinner. read more

Day time buffet-style is addictive. Seriously, I eat here once a week. I love the eggplant delight and Pad Woon Sen.

This is my other favorite Thai restaurant in the area, but they lose a star for being closed on Sundays. I seem to always want Thai on Sunday nights. I don't know why, it just happens. Nice family run place. Affordable and tasty dishes. Liked the pad thai and pad ka mow. The egg rolls weren't special. But the young coconut from the coconut was delicious. They will split it open for you when you are done to put some coconut meat in with your spicy Thai! read more

Great for a fast lunch. The different dishes are out sort of cafeteria style and you can sample them if you like. Because it is cafeteria style, the spice level is very mild and I prefer more spicy food so it was not my favorite but it was pretty good and very fast. read more

This small Thai restaurant has been in Sunnyvale for 19 years, a good indication that it's a decent place to eat. A friend recommended it to us because we love Thai food and were looking for a place close by to try. We ordered take-out and were not disappointed. The yellow curry (chicken) was tasty; we would have liked a bigger portion, but isn't that nearly always the case? :) The pad see ew was awesome; it is one of my favorite Thai dishes, and Thai Spoons served it well. I have to admit that the only disappointment from our dinner was the papaya salad. For me, it was lacking flavor, and I would have liked more ingredients. This salad was comprised of only papaya, cabbage, and a few tomatoes. On the plus side, the owners were very friendly and obviously take a lot of pride in their restaurant and food. Went for dinner a couple of nights ago. Really like the takeout. Great when the owners were there and sometimes ate in. This last time, totally changed. Server was young and a bit lost. He had taken the orders down incorrectly from the 2 guys sitting by us. Brought the wrong dish as he had"gotten it wrong admitting to the other person behind the counter. He never asked if they still wanted their dish, though he never asked. Laughed at his mistake and admitted it again to the server behind the counter. Weird attitude, for both of them working. They had a comedy sitcom playing on the tv, obviously the servers were watching it as non of the clients were and they were trying to speak over the top of the TV. Overall, still like the food. Less likely to go to not have our orders taken incorrectly. Shame the service was poor enough to make me hesitate to return, even for takeout. We only tried Tom Kha soup from here. Unlike another Thai restaurant nearby, Thai Spoons could accommodate our "no added sugar" request and the soup tasted excellent. I'd make this a 5-star rating if they start using paper takeout containers for hot soups. Years ago, I had a great lunch here. Last week I went for dinner and was strictly unimpressed. The food was bland with no spice and generally overly greasy for Thai food. The restaurant was also pretty depressing. On a Sunday night at about 6:30PM, there were only 2 other couples in the restauarant. I ordered to-go. I feel bad for small mom-n-pop places that aren't doing as well as the bigger places (like Amarin), but sympathy only goes so far. I work about 5 minutes walking away from here and I come here as often as I can. I always get the same thing to go "Gai Pad Ped, Thai hot, extra onions, with some extra hot sauce which is amazing, I can eat it everyday if I could. I'm pretty sure everyone there knows what I order when I walk in and when I call over the phone most people will know it's me based on what I order.
