Thai time is probably one of the cheaper Thai places in the city. But you kinda get what you pay for. My pad see ew with chicken was rather bland, definitely mediocre at best. It was a little dry and the noodles were too thin and short. There was a nice assortment of vegetables and a decent amount of chicken, but still, it was rather unsatisfying. The restaurant is a tiny hole in the wall. There are only a handful of tables all jammed together. I did takeout. There was no where to sit or stand while waiting for my food, which came out almost too fast... I didn't even get a plastic fork or napkin in my to go bag. This may be my new neighborhood Thai restaurant! We walked in and ordered chicken pad thai, chicken pad kee mao, and a thai iced tea to-go on Saturday night around 7:30 PM. The restaurant itself is very intimate and cozy with very limited seating. I would love to dine in one night. The food came out fast, so we we quickly made our way home to enjoy dinner. Both dishes were so tasty and fresh! We usually have left overs after dining on Thai food but both containers ended up completely empty. PROS: - Taste, portions, price are A+ - Fast service - Lots of appetizing specials, definitely want to check those out CONS: - Not sure if this is normal but I found a handful of tofu in my chicken pad thai. We ordered 2 chicken pad thai and it was super bland. It had no flavor and on top of that they gave us one fork to share 2 pad Thais and a mango sticky rice dessert. We were heading to the beach so we told them to make sure there was utensils and they told us there was.. never again will I come back. Worst pad Thai I've ever had. Located on a side street next to a very busy and restaurant-filled Clement Street, this place is a stand out to me in terms of Thai eateries in SF. Lots of parking in the area although depending on the time of day, you may have to drive around a bit. Warning: this place is small. 8 to 9 small tables max so this place is not good for large groups. Expect a long wait during certain times of day/night. They do alot of delivery orders so if you want delivery, you have that option, although if you are eating-in, the wait for food might be a bit longer as a result. Hubby and I have been getting Thai time for 10 years now. It is our favorite Thai place. We simply do not eat Thai food anywhere else bc we know whatever we have won't be as good as Thai time! My go-to items are: Pad Thai with shrimp-so good! If you like the kind of pad Thai that is drenched in sauce, this is not it. But if you like pad Thai with veggies tofu and eggs in every bite, this is IT! I ALWAYS order their pad Thai. Thai time combo- I love appetizer samplers! This one is so good! My favorite item in the combo is the garee puffs which are sweetish samosas with an amazing nutty filling. I like how they give you 3 yummy sauces so you can dip the items in each one! Mango salad: I could eat this every day. It's soooooo good. If you have never tried it, you should. It's so fresh and tangy, I love the softish cashew nuts it comes with and I could drink the dressing. So refreshing! Gang Penang: my favorite curry. It's soooo rich with flavor. I get it with beef. So very pleased that this TINY restaurant is still around. I pass at least once a week, but am NVR in the right moment to stop in and order or worse order on line simply because of the time of day . I'm either too early or too late for lunch and way too early for dinner . Sadly, as posted on their front window , food is too go only . Then again setting was extremely limited anyway. All that being said , I used to frequent this establishment frequently with my 2 nieces from Hawaii as they were attending college at USF and SF State respectively and both enjoy Thai Cuisine over most anything else, and a close second would be Japanese. Both of which are extremely healthy and tasty. And of course as they were my nieces , Uncle always foots the $$$ . I only tried a small handful of items, but I can see why this a favorite local spot. I enjoyed the pad Thai, beef fried rice, Thai Tea, and mango sticky rice orders my party had for dinner. The pad Thai had generous amounts of plump shrimp although the noodles had a slight flavor of coconut. It tasted a bit unusual at first but the flavors all blended together once mixed. My favorite item was the mango sticky rice, which was one of the better versions I've had of this dessert! I'd go back for that alone. The pad Thai was very well balanced. I couldn't put my finger on it initially, but everything in this dish works well together - the carrots and lettuce are shredded thinly and the peanuts are not overwhelming. Food is amazing and the prices are the best in SF! Usually the restaurants on Clement are all really good and reasonably priced. All of the dishes that we ordered did not disappoint and I can't wait to go back to try more. Like many of the restaurants in the area, it's a small spot. There may be 10 tables at most, some seat 4 and some seat 2. It could get crowded later in the night and definitely don't come here if you have a big group. When it's crowded it could be a little wait. There's a small kitchen and one stove so the dishes take a little while to prepare. There is not a lot of space - not great for groups. But we managed to visit on a Saturday night at 7pm for dinner and waited no more than 15 minutes. The restaurants menu is INSANE! More than 70 items, all are delicious. This place is normally family style but we all had our own dishes. I brought my bf's white family here... I got the Yum Yum Trout which was super yum with mango. The fish was cut open and fried. My bf's dad finished all of his Thai Time wide noodle dish, his brother cleaned his Pad Thai place, the green rotee my bf ordered was just so perfectly crepe'd up and the curry has chicken and eggplant aplenty. Everything we tried was great and what better to top it off with $3.95 beer and $5.95 wine! I recommend coming here. You will be cramped but you will enjoy it all. We ordered at 5pm on a Friday and got our order quickly at pickup at 5:40 and everything was done right. We ordered: Spring roll Pad Thai Tom Kha Gai with Chicken Soup Pra Ram Tofu Green Curry Rotee 2 garlic rice pad Thai Kid approved and everything was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the Green Rotee not being too spicy. The only thing that was different for me is the Pad Thai was heavier on the Fish sauce flavor than I'm used to from other thai places. the pickier kid loved the soup and the Pra Ram to my surprise! The flavors were on point although the soup and Pra Ram was slightly on the sweeter side but I like my Thai food with a slightly sweeter flavor. The Tom Kha Gai stood out as my favorite with such smooth and full of rich flavor. With every negative experience comes with knowledge. I learned tonight that when you order through Grubhub the driver can see the tip prior to delivery if the restaurant utilizes their own driver. That's because the driver sees the total paid as the restaurant receives the payment. Let me share my experience. I ordered Grubhub and my delivery settings is set to contactless delivery with specific instructions to leave the food at the door. Pretty simple directions especially in these times of Covid. Their driver rang my bell rather aggressively and I buzzed him in while I walked to the bathroom. As I was in the bathroom "going" the driver decided to bang on my door yelling that I didn't leave a tip. Wtf? Since when are tips mandatory prior to actually receiving the food? I yelled through the door as I was in the bathroom that I would tip after I got my food. He decided to ring my bell and knock aggressively again stating he didn't receive his tip. When I was out of the bathroom I opened up the front door to the same harassment insisting he wanted his tip. Well, at that point I told him to take the food and exit my building. I called Grubhub to share my experience and they were very cool and professional about the whole thing. I made the mistake of reordering the exact order from the restaurant. I mean. I was starving and wanted what I ordered. I was waiting and waiting and than noticed the order was canceled! Called Grubhub again and turns out ThaiTime canceled my order. I guess their driver shared the experience that I sent the food back because I was going to tip him before I received my food and they made the decision not to remake it. Well I'm incredibly grateful that I learned this valuable lesson and will not be ordering food from here ever again. If you are looking to get in a cheap, delicious Thai Fix, Thai Time should be your go to! It was my first time here and I came around 5:30 PM on a Thursday. It wasn't crowded at that time, but by the time I finished my meal around 6:30, there were a couple parties out the door. The restaurant itself is pretty small, definitely for smaller parties (2-5ppl) because there was only about 7 tables total. Anyways, service is fast, food is delicious and CHEAP. My bf and I ended up getting 3 dishes. Each dish ranged from ~$8 - $10 which is really really good prices for quality food! We got the Thai Tea, Tom Yum Soup, Tofu Pad Thai, and some type of garlic/basil fried rice = #66 with Pork (I forgot the name of the dish LOL). Thai Tea: It was $2.50. It tasted good, but not sure if I would pay $2.50 all the time for it. I'd rather get boba down the street if you are craving milk tea. Tom Yum: I got this dish with chicken, and let me say - THEY GIVE HELLA CHICKEN. The soup tasted average, like any other tom yum soup. I don't think I'll be getting this next time though, because I was so full after eating it and couldn't finish my other stuff. It was flavorful, not spicy, had mushrooms, tomato, and chicken, really basic. But it came in a clay pot and the nice server scooped it into bowls for me so that was kinda cool. Pad Thai: I liked this dish but it was little too much on the saucy side for me - which is weird because I never had saucy pad thai before. The tofu was yummy and fried and the noodles were a good chewy consistency. I also like how the peanuts were really small - so it had the flavor but not the crunch. The portion size was good for ~$8 that I paid for it. Overall, super flavorful but again the sauce made the consistency kind of slimy and too flavorful. Basil Pork Fried Rice: Really tasty!! I loved the flavor and texture of this. It really had strong basil and garlic flavor. The only issue was that the pork tasted a little off - so i just picked it out on the side. I ordered the pad thai because it's one of my favorite thai dish and it did not disappoint me. I was very surprised by the Green Rotee because I've tried rotee before but the sauce is usually peanut butter. Everything about this restaurant reminded my of my recent trip to the beautiful country of Thailand! From the decor on the walls to the small kitchen that you must pass in order to get to the tiny bathroom, it brought back fond memories. Not to mention, the food was as authentic as food from a street cart in Bangkok. Obviously, Time doesn't offer the same prices as a street cart, but it is decently priced at about $7- $11 per dish. As well as $4 for dessert and $2.50 for thai iced tea. Talk about a deal! No dish really stood out to me with the exception of the dessert, roti. If not for their homemade, freshly cooked pancake drizzled with condensed milk and sprinkled sugar I would rate this place 3 stars. We waited around 10 minutes but once we were seated, we waited around 15 minutes to get someone to take our order and another 15 minutes to get some water. It's a tiny place with slow service. We ordered the Thai green curry with jasmine rice and a fried rice dish with sour sausage. I really loved the Thai green curry but my friend didn't like the fried rice. Thai Time is a cute, cozy hole in the wall. The decor is colorful and traditional, making you feel like you're eating in some midwestern grandmother's kitchen. My friend and I went on a Sunday evening around 6 pm and there was no wait. The food, while delicious, took forever and a day to come out; I appreciate that a long wait implies that the food was probably freshly made, but waiting a good 30-45 mins for an appetizer and two entrees when the restaurant isn't even that busy kinda sucks if you're not patient (and/or starving). We got the angel wings, pad Thai with chicken, green curry with pork, and mango sticky rice. The angel wings were not what I was expecting-it wasn't a sweet/spicy glazed, lightly fried chicken wing, but instead a hodgepodge of mystery meat, glass noodles, and other things in the shape of chicken wings-kind of like meatloaf, but the chicken version. I was not a fan. 1 star. The pad Thai was delicious!!!!!!! Get it! The green curry was also packed with flavor and had a nice kick to it. 4.5 stars for the both of them! Lastly, the mango sticky rice was the perfect end to our meal. 5 stars. Must try, even if you're "full" (don't lie to yourself you ain't full unless you had dessert). If you get there anytime after 6/6:30 pm expect to be waiting outside for a good half an hour or more (the restaurant only has a few small tables and is cramped). This place is so small. The smallest I've ever seen in my life! I'm surprised the people of San Francisco manage to live like this. As a rural SoCal resident, I'm used to spacious restaurants but this was a surprising change. We waited more than an hour for the food sadly. Since they only had eight tables mostly for couples and four-people, our group of five hogged up half the room or so it seemed. Pro: -food was pretty good. The food was pretty good, but the bottom of the fried rice box was cracked wide open (see photo). Half of the food we ordered spilled out as soon as we opened the take out bag and we didn't know if there were tiny plastic shards that fell into the rice. Thai Time didn't look like much on the outside, given that I almost passed the location as I was trying to find it....but when I walked in, it was the cutest and coziest place that anyone could dine! I ordered the Pad Thai Lunch special and my friend ordered the Green Vegetarian Curry, while we shared a Roasted Duck Salad. Roast duck salad-- ***** five stars AMAZING!!! Just the right amount of refreshing and a burst of delicious duck flavor and crunch. Pad thai -- **** Great texture and flavor! Enough ingredients are put in.
