"Chicken sandwich"

Bad. Just bad. Everything. Atmosphere, service and food. The so called "chicken sandwich" that basically was a piece of undercooked fried chicken with some sauce and two cold burger buns. That was passive aggressively throw my way by a the only grumpy employee. And that is for $14 (!!!). Beyond ridiculous. Stay away and go to some other place on Haight.

Stumbled upon this hole in the wall spot for a quick bite. I was amazed by how they can make simple chicken and rice taste so good. Definitely a place that deserves more recognition. The chicken, rice and soup just hits the spot and is a good comfort food. Would come back to try other items.

$18 for chicken over rice is not cheap; but you do get a decently hefty portion. The chicken wasn't too dry and the rice is flavorful, but the soup broth was a bit too salty. It's a small storefront, and they have a little bit a bar seating. It hit the spot for a craving but don't know if I'd come back again given the price point.

Pricey for very little food. It was around ~$16 to $17 dollars for very little food. In addition, my soup was not sealed properly so it spilled. The proportions were very little for the price and the rice was somewhat dry and the sauce did not go super well with the chicken. In addition, there were no utensils provided and there was no option to ask. I was in a rush when getting this food and was lucky there were utensils in my car. Parking was somewhat easy as there is street parking in nearby neighborhoods. However, it can be difficult with the amount of traffic present.

Delicious Thai chicken spot for easy lunch or dinner. The broth included is delicious. Love the seasoned rice as well. I love the convenient location on Haight too. Perfect addition to the neighborhood.

The chicken here is incredible. Authentic Taiwanese soul food. The soy paste sauce is the perfect blend of garlic and spice. I basically inhaled this meal. The chicken broth soup was the perfect side. The actual location is a bit small so seating might be difficult, and it's better for takeout. Great to stop by for a quick bite in the Haight. Highly recommend!

Ordered the what da cluck party set from this place. I have to say it's so scammy what they charge you for. It says it feeds 4 to 5 people, but they're lucky if this feeds three. The send basically two orders worth of chicken. And then four rice and four soups, as if that'll fill up 5 people. I think the thing that pissed me off the most, was how they made it look like you got more chicken than you actually get since they stick the chicken on a bunch of uncooked spinach. Im sure they do this because they know what a sad amount of chicken they send, so they need to make it look like they're not ripping you off. I mean I know it's San Francisco prices, and I already expected minimal portion sizes since I've eaten here before but my god this is just pathetic. At this point go boil some chicken yourself at home and save yourself the disappointment and bitterness. I put a picture in of the chicken amount for reference. I pretty much never write reviews, and I certainly never take photos, but I literally was so pissed and felt like I got scammed so badly that before eating I took photos just so I could show everyone how sad this is. That's half the chicken in the box and the other half in the lid.

Classic (Khao Man Gai) that comes with soup, $11.95

This place was so good and reasonably priced! Everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered: 1. Classic (Khoa Man Gai) comes with soup, ($11.95) 2. Chicken katsu ($13.95) 3. Side of extra classic meat ($4) I would come back to order the exact same items again. From their soup, to their perfectly fried katsu, to their smooth shredded chicken (the side dish we ordered), gosh everything was just amazing. The only thing I'd change is that I wish they gave more rice with both dishes! It was almost not enough for two people.

I love Hainanese chicken: Savory flavors of cilantro and ginger gently poaching chicken to perfection in a lip-smacking broth. When it's done well, as it is here at saucily named What The Cluck, it's a sublime experience. The owner stored my chicken and rice in an insulated bag so it was still warm and kept my Thai iced tea in the cooler, only adding ice once I arrived so it wouldn't be watered down. Help yourself to add-ons and options from a poached organic egg to crispy chicken skin. They also have skinless or fried katsu chicken as well as tofu and a spinach substitute for rice if you're keto or just watching your carbs. Conveniently located in The Haight just by Golden Gate Park off Stanyan.

Honestly felt like a hole-in-the-wall shop since I walked right by it and missed it. Chicken was really flavorful and tender! I loved that it was so soft. The guy working there was really kind when he was serving me. Loved the atmosphere - it's smaller and there's only a couple seats, but I liked the coziness of the place.

My friends and I came here around 4pm to grab a quick meal! We all ordered the Classic Khao Man Gai and it came packaged in a container with soup on the side. The meal was quick, inexpensive, and pretty tasty - I will give it that. However, the white meat was honestly a little dry and there is better Hainan Chicken out there :/ There was some indoor seating when we went and our food came out quickly. Cashier was friendly enough. Overall, What The Cluck is a decent spot to check out if you are in the area!

Dip that milk bread in that buttery garlic chili oil goodness. I'm literally getting hungry writing this as we speak. Everyone was so friendly, Jane was super helpful and nice when we asked questions about menu items. Wish I caught everyone else's name too, very welcoming spot. The Guilin noodle soup was packed with flavor and quickly became my favorite dish here. I especially loved the pickled vegetables, they complemented the broth so well. The first time I visited, I tried the spicy beef soup, which was just ok for me. I'm glad I came back and gave the Guilin noodle soup a try because it completely changed my impression. The meat portions are generous and offer great value for the price. On top of the great food, the service is fast, and the restaurant is clean and well-maintained. For 2 person we ordered the following: Beef in Pickled Mustard Green Noodle Soup老坛酸菜牛肉面 - the portion is huge for the price, but besides that there isn't much taste to it, it was rather bland. Chicken with with Explosive Chili Pepper Rice 重庆辣子鸡饭 - the chicken was so dry and chewy, took one bite and gave up. Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs糖醋小排 - this is a love hate for me, I actually love the seasoning and the sauce, but the spare ribs are impossible to eat!! It was so overcooked, hard and dark like charcoal, I feel like I was chewing rubber or something. It was not a cheap order either, and we had to throw it out after only a few bites and ordered something else for dinner. Maybe it was an off day? I don't know but given how bad it was we most likely won't be giving it another try.

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.

A really busy place so be prepared to wait for your table, Sometimes they have to cut off the line at night so they can close off their business, so don't cut it close! Recommendations to order: Yin Yan (M2) - a Hong Kong special of milk tea mixed with coffee. Nothing get more HKish than this. Wonton Noodles (E1) - this is Cantonese style wonton, with really thin wrappers, along with thin egg noodles that has a firm and toothsome texture. Curry Beef with Rice (G12) - Just like back in Hong Kong! The beef tendon in there is so melty good! You can order the curry beef with noodles too but rice is better to soak up all the curry sauce. Hokkien Fried Rice (G10) - a luscious gravy on top of a fried rice filled with seafood and meat. You'll lick the bowl clean Rice Rolls (B) - their rice rolls are pretty solid too, smooth and slurpy. Just do yourself a flavor, don't order the Xiao Lung Bao Soup Dumplings here. It's not Cantonese, and there are definitely better places to get them. So just focus on Cantonese food here, that's what they excel at.

I remember this was one of the first restaurants I visited when I first landed in San Francisco in 2024, so it brings back good memories. Here are my thoughts on everything I tried: Green onion pancakes: The best dish! No meat, just crispy pan-fried pancakes, but they're incredibly addictive. Beef brisket & beef tendon noodle soup: The broth was comforting. Honestly, the broth was everything for me. Beef brisket over noodles: A pass. It was too oily and felt heavy. BBQ pork: Yes! One of my favorites. So delicious. Seafood XO sauce stir-fried vermicelli: It needed more seasoning. We ended up adding soy sauce, which helped. Shanghai soup dumplings: Unfortunately, no. They were overcooked, and the soup leaked out as soon as I picked one up with my chopsticks (fyi, I know how to use chopsticks. I also know how to eat xiao long bao). Pork & chive dumplings: To be honest, they seem to always overcook their dumplings (I visited a few times and they always overcooked it). Maybe it's because they're always busy? Even so, the filling still tasted okay. Stir-fried baby bok choy with garlic sauce: It was okay. Nothing special, but a nice vegetable dish to balance out the meal. Overall, the food was definitely hit or miss. Some dishes were excellent, while others could use some improvement. However it's always busy and has a waitlist. That said, this restaurant has always been, and will continue to be popular because of its legacy. And I'll definitely come back for the memories.
