I got the massamo curry and the garlic braised duck. The staff were so friendly and helpful they recommended the dishes and made sure it was to my liking. Seems like they are family or just friends but they are very friendly. The curry and duck was savory and flavorful it was amazing. The staff afterwards even packed up my food to go when I was ready and of course they offered first but I obliged. This little thai restaurant popped up on my radar a few days ago. After reading the reviews I decided to take the That Wok Kitchen plunge and see what this place was all about. First off the atmosphere was nice and cozy. The restaurant was packed which was also a good sign. Our server was very nice and prompt. Now on to the most important part of the dining experience, the food. Thai shrimp salad: 4 stars. The salad had an amazing taste and the presentation was amazing. The only reason that I am not giving it 5 stars is there was a puddle of dressing in the middle of the plate. I would definitely order this again but next time I will ask for light dressing as there was just way to much. Shrimp fresh rolls: 5 star all the way. The rolls were fresh and the peanut sauce that came with the dish was quite possible the best peanut sauce that I have ever had. There was a tiny kick to it that was just perfect. Pineapple fried rice: 5 star. Not much to say aside from the fact that this rice was spot on. You can get fried rice at endless restaurants, and this rates pretty high in taste and quality. Winter shrimp: 5 Star. These shrimp were wrapped in egg roll sheets and lightly fried. Dipping them in the included plum sauce leaves you wanting to order another the moment you are done with the first. I guess after 4 visits and getting great service and food, it's time for a shout out. Thou, I haven't tried all Thai restaurants in Vancouver, it is probably in the top 3 for sure. But based on it's Yelp rating, which has a perfect 5 stars on almost 400 reviews, it is the best rated restaurant on Yelp in Vancouver that I know of. It seems pretty easy for them. They are always smiling, food comes out fast, hot and well plated every time. I met the sole cook on my last visit and she is phenomenal doing it by herself. I hope she has help at night or when they are very busy. Coming from Portland and to come here to eat Thai, which is my favorite food is saying a lot about them. Seriously good Thai food in the Vancouver area! We ordered the pad see ew, pad khee mao, and duck curry to-go. All three dishes were bursting with flavor and came in large portions. My favorite was the pad see ew. Every bite was packed with so much flavor and delicious wok-fired char. If you're feeling adventurous, I also recommend the duck curry which comes with juicy pineapple in the curry. We finished the meal stuffed and content. Did we walk in with super high expectations? Definitely! Did we leave impressed? HELL YES. The restaurant itself is clean, simplistic, and modern looking with wide open booths and a communal bar. The menu, organized as a pamphlet, consists of neat lists of various appetizers, stir fried entrees, curries, and noodles. Service is attentive and welcoming with multiple waiters checking in on us without any of them uncomfortably hovering. For our lunch, we ordered pad kee mao with prawns and rama thai, a peanut sauce stir fry, with chicken, both at medium spicy. It did take some time for our food to be prepared, but they both came out steaming hot and looked positively amazing. Firstly, the portions were huge and well worth the price. Secondly, the smell wafting from each dish made both of our stomachs rumble in anticipation. We absolutely loved the pad kee mao. The noodles were soft, without being mushy, and there were so many perfectly cooked prawns strewn throughout. At first, I thought medium spicy would pack just a little kick of heat. THIS WAS BY NO MEANS LITTLE. The spice coated our mouths in a delicious fiery blanket that was both painful and addicting. The peanut sauce stir fry, on the other hand, soothed our fiery taste buds with a creamy and savory palate. The chicken was prepared as bite size pieces and cooked to tender perfection. We even loved the side of fluffy, fragrant rice that was served alongside it. By the time we finished both dishes, we were ready to surrender to the impending food coma hanging over our heads. First time trying this place out, and it was definitely an easy 5 star. Upon initial impression, the strip mall will throw you off a bit. It's next to a trampoline park and Subway in a totally random shopping center. Of course, we shrugged our shoulders and were still curious to see what the hype is all about! Service was quick. Way quick. Usually I'm the person that knows what they want to order within minutes of seating, and servers were all impressively attentive, kind, and ready for us. This is a relaxing atmosphere with a wait staff that is very attentive. The food was fast and delicious, and the waitress worked really hard to accommodate our questions about spiciness levels and food preparation. The noodles were very fresh and had a nice texture. The papaya salad was refreshing and had the right amount of sweet and tangy. I usually dont think to order duck, but after reading so many rave reviews, we decided to try it. It was exceptional. The duck pieces had perfect crispy skin and the duck meat, when smothered in the light sauce, was very tasty. Prices were super reasonable and the portion size was huge. Because we're traveling, we couldn't take the leftovers. This amount of food would easily be double the cost in Silicon Valley, where I live. Service was also top notch. Both dishes came out of the kitchen freshly made, and piping hot. But there is something missing in the flavor profile that made the dishes good but not great. The noodles in my pad thai were too chewy with pieces that were not cooked at all, and the chicken was not super tender. Hub's dish was under-sauced and kind of watery. The restaurant was packed in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week, so maybe I'm missing something. May try this place again and order a different dish. read more

There is a difference between hot, and Thai hot. Please, please pay attention to that. If I were to say nothing else in this review of the delightful food offered here, I will say that. And if you are a lover of capsaicin laden foods, as I am, but also a fan of being able to make it through an entire meal, then I advise-highly-going the "hot" route. Although the PNW seems to have as many Thai restaurants as it does Papa Murphy's, this place really sets itself apart by being a great place to eat first and foremost. I have been here several times now and can say, without equal that it is one of the best. All the Thai staples are on the menu, though I have reflexed to the Tham Yan noodle soup on my last two visits. The drunken noodles (pad kee mao) are tasty, but a bit under seasoned in my opinion. Phad Thai is hard to screw up, but I will say that they do well at not overcooking g their noodles so there is texture there and not the oversteemed mush you get at other places. But, should you want to start with a munchables, the pot stickers are small and delightfully full of flavor and Prime's your stomach for the yumminess to come. There is not a ton of seating here, but it seems to be enough for their customer base, which is not as robust as it honestly should be. Though they have been here for a couple of years, I feel they should be bustling at all times with their quality of service and menu items.
